I think a Blaster or Brute/Scrapper is pretty fast to 50. When you know what you are doing they all seem pretty fast with Tankers and Defenders feeling the slowest when soloing. My first 50 way back in Issue 1 was a Ice/Em blaster followed by a SS/INV tank, I learned quite a bit about the game by switching between the extremes of the two so that's my recommendation. -

How are they going to beat anything up if they just have heal aura on auto?
yes I hate the average emp user.

Should be more hardcore and not get any badges. Those were added after launch too and should probably penalize himself for any XP he gets from badges by accident. Oh and don't forget to work off all that patrol XP at some point. Should be uber hardcore and stop at level 40 as well, no PI or level 50 back in the day if you remember! No going to the Hollows or Croatoa and the aforementioned revamped Faultline or Cimerora either.
Delete folks off your global friends list too. You should stick to "old school" slotting as well, IE: 1 acc and 5 damage in your attacks, GO! This is excusable for any attacked tweaked to knockdown where you can slot a knockback enh to make it more annoying. Shoot, we also got an XP tweak and the curve was flattened out a bit so you're going to have to look up old XP tables and do some math to penalize yourself properly especially if you don't go hardcore enough to stop at 40.
Goes without saying that the tweaked Greenlines and such are off limits. I don't know how many hero side cape and respec missions you have to do to equal their old difficulty... ahh one shotting tanks with rikti swords in the cape mission, how I don't miss you. Oops that's another, one shot code, you have to kill yourself anytime it saves you. No PVP, not even arena! Be careful how you make your toon, lots of changes to the costume editor too, and none of those fancy propagated power sets or anything new! Hell, no CoV at all duh! -

So have I. One of the most memorable was with 3 brutes, 3 widow/fort's, a dom (not perma mind) and a (i think) fire/cold corr. We woud have got master too, if BABs hadnt landed 2 lucky hits in a row on the /fire brute.
I've also done the last fight (Pre Master badge) without anyone taking a death with the /stone brute teleporting into the middle of the heroes.

Dear Castle,
Please give every single armor set every form of mitigation because there can't be any type of weakness.

Seriously, the set if fine the way it is. Your going to face enemies that counteract the effectiveness of your armors. That's life.

Isn't there sortof a universal rule regarding accuracy slotting? You want 99% (three slots?) for all of your attacks, correct?
Also, for this build (EM/EA), should I plan for Stamina (Fitness) or will the electric goodness cover me for endurance?
[/ QUOTE ]
Holy moly, if you can spare the slots I GUESS you could. I used to be pretty satisfied with a single SO but now I aim for ~40 percent with some global bonuses and an aegis if I can. A mix of accuracy and to hit and judicious/intelligent use of Build Up style powers. If you can swing 99% accuracy without negatively affecting other aspects of the power then, of course, that would be better than 40%. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you are set on a tank, you are going to be bitterly disappointed with brutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've got to disagree with that wording. Brutes have nigh the same potential for tanking goodness as Tankers they simply don't self buff as strongly. Even that varies from powerset to powerset, ie: Stone Melee and Stone Armor versus, say, Electric Melee and Electric Armor. IO's can really shore up defenses immensely. Softcapping positional defenses with a powerset like Shield Defense makes you amazingly tough.
I guess it's a bit powerset dependent though so it would be easy to get the wrong impression and getting a decent set of buffs from a team would really swing that impression.
Edit: I realize that maybe you would be bitterly disappointed if you wanted the slow, plodding offense that usually comes with a tank. That's true, brutes are way faster in my experience. -
As a person that regularly cycles through reading all the AT forums I never really noticed the disparity, but, it's true. "any/any" is often a touted answer on the Scrapper forums while you see more negativity on the Tanker and Brute forums. I think this is actually because some of the Tanker and Brute sets can achieve such fantastic results that you end up setting your sights a bit too high when trying other combinations. Sets like (old) EM, Stone Melee and Armor, Super Strength etc. really let you do some amazing things and aren't available to Scrappers.
So I'd just adjust what you are seeing in the negativity up a few notches in general. Folks made tons of Elm/Ela when the sets hit and had bugs out the wazoo and still loved it to heck and back. -

Under that logic, though, Goat, there is no reason or need to ever change or add anything to the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
if something isn't working, it should be changed.
if you want to keep current players involved and attract new ones, you need to add stuff to the game.
things that work fine, like drop rates, simply don't need adjusting.

I think loose words like "fine" are the problem here. ET worked fine for a bajillion issues and changed. Hover and Fly animations worked "fine" for years and changed. -

And Lavitae, CoX still is NOT those "other games." If that playstyle appeals, then by all means, those "other games" already have the gameplay mechanics you're advocating. Just because someone else does it, doesn't make it a great idea.

Purples are not hard to get. The last toon I took to 50, I got 4 purples while soloing or duoing the majority of the last 3 levels. Great drop rate? No. Good enough to get a few while playing the game normally? Yes. Faster than the other games? HELL yes.
Not everyone's supposed to have purples. Purples are the top end gear. If they just gave us all the best stuff, people would stop playing, because (general use) YOU can't be uber if EVERYONE is, and striving for uberness is what keeps a lot of people around.
Face it, the end goal of this game is to keep as many of us paying $15/month as they can. If they give us a "You Win" button, then there's nothing left to do, people quit, and the game dies.
Go get your uncommon and rare IOs, slot up, and get good enough to earn your purples, or earn the inf to buy them. That is what they were put there for. They're a time sink to keep us playing. Not something everyone needs and deserves for however much work they feel like devoting.

Meh, I don't really see them as being very comparable at all. For example, WoW (world of warcraft) items are either BoP or BoE. Bind on Pickup (BoP)meaning the item literally cannot be given to or used by anyone else other than the one that picks it up off the defeated monsters. Bind on Equip is the same only the lock in effect happens once a character uses or wears the item. The closest we have in CoX would be BoE but even that is inaccurate as you can unslot enhancements through the Respect process. In WoW if a player picks up most "end game" equipment at all it is "soul bound" to them, even if they can not even use it IE: A class restricted to only "light" armor like leather picks up a suit of metal plate mail and suddenly it's theirs forever, let alone the fact that they can not even attempt to wear or use it in any way.
WoW got smart and introduced marks and emblems. For marks, instead of a boss frequently dropping only a (recipe) item that only a specific person can use they instead drop a emblem that can be traded in for an item that a variety of classes can use. Emblems are akin to tickets/merits in a way, they are a way of allowing players to build up and outright buy equipment (recipe) or an item of value to the crafting folks (salvage) for sale when they've bought and upgraded with everything available to them at the Emblem vendor. In fact, some of the Mark items above are also available from the emblem vendor. It should be noted that the items bought with emblems are often different, of equal power, but different from items found in "instance dungeons" where you find Marks and such.
Actually, the more I type it out the more I realize how it's only vaguely parallel. Instances in WoW are similar to TF/SF in CoX but they end with Merit rewards which can only buy non-purple recipes yet purple recipes are closer in power ranking to Mark (Tier gear) rewards in WoW. WoW doesn't "require" a team to start an instance or TF but you will almost certainly have to assemble a team to FINISH it.
CoX often impressed my colleagues in that it was a MMO with "no loot" (it did technically have loot but not what they meant) but features amazingly fun gameplay that was LCD and easy enough to attract about anybody. Also it was not another Sword and Sorcery clone. The "best stuff" in the game was pretty much available to everyone and there was little feeling of "haves and have nots" and "loot grinding." That's all still present, again technically, but it's asking a lot of folks to spend their monthly subscriptions and not partake in the end result of development funded by said subscription.
Meh. -

In my opinion, the problem isn't an All Boss Spawn, or all lieutenant spawns, the problem is that nothing in this game actually rewards the players according to how easy or difficult it was for them to defeat their enemies! That is the root cause why PL'ing is even possible, that is the root cause why farming is possible, and that is why AE will always be even more exploitable than the other in-game content is.
If you truly care about this issue and are truly looking at ways on how to fix this issue, the answer doesn't lie in restricting All Boss Spawns or what-not. The answer lies in giving rewards proportionally to the direct effort each character had to invest in the fight to defeat a groups of enemies. That's my opinion at least, YMMV.

It's also worth noting that, even when the level scaling works (I adjusted the above mission to stop at level 18 exactly), they're not kidding when they say some enemies won't scale right. Going in on difficulty one, so that elder cobra was now a level 18 lieutenant... and it walked up and cut off about 80% of my health in one hit. I managed to win anyway via munching insps and staying at range as much as possible (combined with the fact that it had relatively normal lieutenant level health)... but it was definitely somewhere in the boss to elite boss level of dangerousness.

2) Can NPC models be given customizable powers. For instance, I was making a CoT mission for the 15-20 range, but only Ruin Mages appear as bosses in that range. I wanted a larger variety of bosses, but I want them to look like the CoT in game. So while I could use the character creator and power customizer to create a boss with the powers I wanted, the character creator doesn't have all the costume parts for CoT mages. Meanwhile, I found that you could edit in-game NPCs, but only their costumes, not their powers.
Rationale: there are a lot of cool looking mobs in the game already. Being able to use their skins as a template in the character creator would be an awesome tool to allow you to fit custom mobs into pre-existing factions quickly.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. Powers are designed for certain models, and changing them could lead to unwanted behavior. The dev-given example, made up, is a werewolf given Energy Blast firing them from his shoulder.
[/ QUOTE ]
Holy [censored] that would be cool. Now I wish we could do it just for werewolves with shoulder mounted blasters!!! -

Cap au Diable on Freedom is similar. Mostly, because people are jerks and stand around with PBAoE heals on autofire, summon Mastermind pets, etc in the building.
A power dampening effect, such as the one in Studio B, turns all your powers off. Which would mean retoggling every time you enter a mission. Annoying at best, and possibly instant death on all those casino maps people like to use.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not a second entrance door in Studio B? Like the little door outside Portal Corp that looks like a guard house but lets you into the main building?
