Quote:I disagree. Not that those images shown weren't great. But if you don't fight against the "lets make it all realistic" you end up with icky "I fight in 3 piece suit because i wouldn't fight in tights" heroes. There are a number of things from classic comic books that should most certainly be messed with

And that's just stupid when it's all of them, because darnit, I like my superheroes in tights!
-
Fair enough. But hugging every curve is a comic book staple! It's classic! Don';t mess with the classics!
-
Quote:o.O Wait are you saying you're okay with skin tight outfits that hug every curve or not?But the outfits are drawn as realistic skintight outfits - which is the way they should be drawn.
Because that's what I'm saying every great artist has done. It's a comicbook staple.
And I wouldn't consider them lazy/bad artist for doing it either. I mean, I'm not saying like their work, but are you drawing any better? -
-
Quote:Sure there is! It's a staple of superhero comic book art.Because superheroes are a fantasy set in reality - they're mostly humans, and they mostly operate on Earth - so they're subject to the physics of the real world unless their powers can over-ride them - like if you have the power of flight, that means you can over-ride the real world physics of humans not being able to fly - but unless there's a special power that over-rides the physics of stretchy fabric, then there's no reason for stretchy fabric not to follow real world physics.
-
Quote:Look at all that seperation on Star-Girl.Just becuase bad/lazy artists find is easier/more interesting to draw spandex covered chests as if they were painted on, that doesn't really make it ok.
Stretchy clothing shows minimal to zero separation in RL, so there's no reason not to show the same in a comic book or comic book game.
It's part of what comics are! Skin tight outfits! Why do people keep wanting to put realism into a fantasy setting? -
-
Quote:because that's how it works in the comics.Which is fine for arms, legs stomachs, backs and so on - but it really becomes a problem with chests, because tight clothing in RL just doesn't react like that on real chests - that's why I think Mother Mayhem's chest is using some special costume part, and not just a texturing trick, because I really don't see hhow a texture on a spandex/tights top could remove the separation we get right now on our avatars.
That's why superhero tights do. Leave reality at the door

Odd, I see them running around Paragon all the time.
As for the reason. Demons are more "everything" I for instance don't recall an angel in greek mythology (my knowledge of greek mythology is a bit rusty however).
Angel could possibly set some people off "Angels have wings, angels don't have wings, my religion's angels would never do that".
Demon's are a little more generic. -

Quote:And yet, if I make a character with the name Wolverine, make a girl who stands 6ft tall, carries a sword and is Invulnerable. I' can't use the name at all. :/The name seems to be all they have in common. That being said, it seems... interesting.
Or in reverse...similar (but different) outfit, different powers and bio, genericed. Seems a bit wrong to me.

Quote:Doing a quick look, it looks like EP has the better DPA basically 39 (EP in 1.056 seconds) vs 34 (BAR in 1.584 seconds).Well going off of the gloom attack chain, Im gonna say its ET, Barrage, BS, TF. I dont know why I put EP in there, Im pretty sure barrage has better dpa than EP.
You have to also realize that those are billz findings, some people have claimed to have found better dps attack chains for powersets. We go off that list because bill seems to be that special kind of math nerd you can just trust.
Barrage has the bigger number though. So Barrage seems to be the Burst damage attack (and has the better animation imo). -
Yeah...I was thinking more the lack of Gloom list, where EM came in 2nd place for DPS at 157.
It's proven Gloom just adds alot to DPS. Not that I'm against using Gloom if the concept says use it, but I was trying to figure out the best DPS for a set using just EM attacks.
ET - BS - TF - EP though, is that it? Still seems to require alot of +RCH to get those attacks going, or did Billz list have gaps in the chain and it still managed to get 157? -
I RP. So, really, I don't start them over at year 1 with every toon.
Now one could RP and do it that way. But then you have to RP with just those who follow the same rule or things will go out the window fast.
Lvl 1 SKed up to a Lvl 50...
Lvl 50: Yeah. Hero One got taken by the Rikti and turned into one them. Also turns out the Lost are really humans the Rikti are trying to turn into Rikti. Countess Crey, yeah, she's arrested now. Took her down. Won't be seeing her anymore.
Lvl 1: What?!
Or you look at other things in game...like the Council's return just last year, but you'll run into them before you get into this years timeline. -
Quote:Agreed.Uh, yeah. Ever use Air Superiority while you're actually in the air against a flying opponent?
It has a very reliable -fly aspect to it. If you're hoverblasting on a non-devices blaster wouldn't something to knock other flyers out of the air be useful? The whole point of hoverblasting is to stay out of melee, and flying enemies can still enter melee with you. Air Superiority puts them on the ground in a hurry.
Depends on what AT is taking it. For a scrapper, tank, brute, stalker, dominator, or blaster it's an inferior melee attack. For a Controller or defender it's better than Brawl. Also, they deal Containment damage for Controllers, my Fire/Kin has Boxing and actually USES it to help kill bosses.
Besides, it's the Fighting pool, not the Duck and Cover pool. Having attacks in it makes sense.
What's wrong with Fitness? The powers are perfectly thematic. If you're physically fit, you can run faster and jump higher. My Claws/Regen used to have Swift, Hurdle, and Health, and skipped Stamina because I didn't need it.
They can't make every single power in the game ZOMGAWESOME!!! Sometimes you need to take some less desireable powers to get to what you want.
And if powers should all be mechanically connected, just look at the names of the pools.
Fighting implies that it gives you the ability to fight. It'd be kind of stupid if all you could do was dodge stuff, kinda need to be able to throw a punch or kick, or you're not actually fighting.
Fitness implies that you are in good shape and healthy. How does running faster and jumping higher NOT fit with that theme?
As for the fitness and Stamina. That's more of people wanting better performance and less down time. Not something I disagree with, but if you want it, you have to build for it. You can play this game without it and still be fine, but everyone likes the faster non-stop action of it. -
Quote:^^This. One thing to use on Health is the Numina +regen/+recovery and Miracle +recovery, if your build might possibly be end-heavy. At least, that's what I've always planned on my characters, haha. XD
I've only skipped Health on my Elec/Thermal Corr, and went with Hurdle/Swift, but on my others, I like health because I can 2 slot it, put those two IOs in it, and be good to go. -
...okay Energy Melee is suppossed to have this potential for great DPS. So what exactly is the chain one is looking to obtain to get this great DPS? With TF and ET's high recharge, I really don't see how it gets this high DPS.
-
Quote:Not unplayable. But not as fun for alot of people either. I still love the looks of EM (love the pom poms). And it could be the ATs that factor into it as well. Different playstyles and everything.Just thought I'd mention that my Energy Melee Stalker is my absolute favorite villain to play. I got into him before the nerf (and discovering pre-nerf Energy Transfer helped me realize that I didn't hate Stalkers), but even after, I still love to play him. Hell, from the moment I got Energy Transfer, my first thought was, "Oh man, this is so overpowered, it's definitely getting nerfed someday."
Then again, I tend to either solo or play small teams. And I don't mind longer animations. But I just thought I should put my voice in... some people still enjoy EM and find it fun to play. Not saying other people are wrong or anything... just saying I like it. And it's definitely not unplayable.
For my Tanker, I was doing weak damage as it was. Now, I'm doing weak damage, and whiffing on dead bodies in PvE. :/ -
Quote:What's sad is, it used to be fun to play. And I never considered it the best toon in the PvE game. I know my tank wasn't getting this high DPS I keep hearing about.I just read a quote by castle and ghost falcon regarding powerset balance where their response was "is it fun." It came from the late april Q&A I am pretty sure. This solidifies the sets (EM) imbalance -by their own terms- to me...
If I was against the right enemies, yup, I'd one shot a minion every time it was up. That was about it.
yes in PvP I was able to deliver a quick 1-2. So what? Did me no good except against a few squishies.
EM used to be fun, and now it's not. And what I can't decide is if it's because I still hate the new animation or because it's a long animation. Maybe it's both. But I know when they made the change, I kept arguing to change the animation. -
Quote:Combat jumping add 1.88 Defense and immobilize protection at an unnoticable amount of end use a second.Pool powers don't necessarily have to be at half strength of equivalent Primary/Secondary powers. In fact, there are some powers that are actually stronger than their equivalents.
Air Superiority for example is as good or better than Thunder Kick. That's comparing a primary to a tertiary. Not a good enough example; how do you explain Hasten.
2-3% resist would be total craptastic. It would be better than an attack you would never use, but still not a decent power at all. A better progression of strength would be something like this: 130% effective if Primary, 100% if secondary, 70% is Tertiary.
So if a Tanker passive resist were around 12%, Scrapper level would be 9%, and making Tertiary around 6%. Any other progression, especially on something like resist would be cruel and unusual IMO.
This would be a passive always on power that provides resistance to EVERYTHING (except Psi)...3% doesn't sound bad at all, when you figure it stacks, is passive, and leads into the rest of the pool (or I can just take it and slot it with a KB resist IO or a +3% Defense IO. -
Quote:I'd recheck your setting if you're having difficulty. I solo'ed and duo'ed with unslotted blasters and defenders (of varing variety) at 0/0 with no problem. So exactly why is 1 Minion and 1 Boss considered balanced on duos?
Then you add +1 level to the primary mission holder...
...and your sidekick is suddenly facing off against a +2 (purple) Boss.
Sorry, I'm just really frustrated with dying constantly as a sidekick at level 19 because of the 'new' mob difficulty that they implemented a few issues ago.
It's no fun team wiping with your friend every two or three spawns. -
I'm not going to say it's a bad idea.
What I will say is I doubt the passive +resist to all but Psi would be at 5%.
I'd say more likely 2% - 3%. This is basing Pool Powers against a close Defense Powers (High Pain Tolerance) -
Quote:No you said people moan about EM, but it's fine, their EM's are just weak.Could say yer..if i was moaning..No where did i say its usless as it is..i enjoy TA, but if it was to be looked at then it needs a buff..otherwise..go with the flow.
Then you go to say TA could use a buff.
I was saying people could go about and say the same thing in reverse.
EM does need some tweaking, maybe in the recharge department of ET. One could easily lower the recharge of ET, and say the -health aspect makes up for it.
Maybe if the attack was able to be used more often would make up for the fact that one does alot of "wooosh! enemy already dead" on teams, that you know, didn't really happen before the change. -
I like the idea. I think it should be made for Dominators too.
-
Hmmm...I could see this ona few powers, but not on all of them.
For instance, I'd love to see...
Follow Up, Soul Drain, Blinding Feint all get a Build Up option.
And the same said for the Build Ups getting a DPS style power over a burst power.
I'd also love to hav the option to give RTTC the Reconstruction treatment on my Scrapper, just so I don't have a power that is detoggled easily when I go into a PvP zone!
