I have only anecdotal evidence myself. Running a Willpower Tank, with Physical Perfection, and The Cardiac Core 4th tier. I am also running Proc that give random End boosts. I have HUGE end problems in Lambda. In fact more than once I have bottomed out end. (And in any other content my Blue Bar only dips slightly when Rage drops, other than that 97-100% Blue...always....even against sappers/carnies) But in the bugs forums there is a post by people who say they have checked their boosts/stats and the Alpha is not working. Thought I may give you tanks a heads up, but I may be doing the chicken little thing. Whatever is going on, if my End bar is crashing like Evil Knievel I pity some of the normally end hungry tankers I know are out there trying Lambda.

The i20 expansion that builds on the i19 Alpha slot, with new trials, new slots, tougher stuff for Incarnates. You guys remember this stuff? Well, your Alpha slot powers do not work in it. they are considered temps and shut off. I bet the Devs are still laughing.

I ran the Lambda 3 times last night. Well, "ran" may be a bit too cocky. We attempted the Lambda 3 times last night. Wowza. My softcapped Will did not feel like a blaster, more like a Fire Armor Brute. Everything is fine until it really ain't, and then its godawful. The last time we ran we set a league w/ 16 before loading. Good peeps. It was new content to all of us. We did not get enough containers/crates. So..... the unending ugly fights in the courtyard began. Like watching monkeys try to put corks in the titanic, it just never came together. I did unlock my first new ability though, and have 5% towards my next. Following Zombie Man's excellent guide I will just 1st tier that 1st ability (I chose the debuff, for obvious reasons...) and when I get the second ability unlocked 3 tier it for the level shift. I will only be doing Lambdas until I get that 2nd Slot opened up. Then i will start the other Task Force. But, yeah, Lambda seems to eat tanks (And I heard a rumor it is tougher on Stone Tanks...)

I'm going to try to tank at least one, maybe both of the new trials tonight. On a soft cap Will/SS. Any advice/heads up tip to someone who is a newb on this content?

I wasnt saying I had all the salvage I would ever need. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I've got 157 shards, a dozen or so random pieces from completing TFs, and a few Notices from the weekly TFs. I figure that is a good amount to have on day one of I20, and enough to where I need to plan how to spend it. Since I will only be converting 10:10 (as it is the most efficient) that will get me thru 15-16 days. The excellent game plan posted in reply will allow me to intelligently start working towards improving my character while gathering more threads/shards.

Thanx T box, just the excellent advice I was looking for. Got tons of shards saved since I am only running one character for 2011. Now I have an efficient plan for getting to the next stage before I start worrying about what to push where for tier 4s.

As I understand it, skipping your tier 9 puts you solidly into the worst set of tank armor made. Some people may like it, but you would be far better off going with Invulnerability for instance, a good general all purpose set. Or more specialized sets like Dark or Ice if you have a concept or build direction in mind. Its just that overall, with all tier 1 thru 8, your res/def values fall below what other sets can do for you IMO.

yeah, about my softcapped Will Tank. He is a monster (I think), but without a ton of team support he could not tank all the Heroes in the LRSF. I had enough problems handling 4 of them, (Posi and BABS being 2 of the 4). I was eating inspirations, hitting tier 9, and wondering how long I could last basically. In truth I held out for about 5 minutes, but it was horrid. And again, that was 4 of the 8. Also, I am not sure I could hold agro from all 8 at once. By spamming taunt and punching I could keep the attention of most of the 4, but with 8, I just do not think so on Willpower. In my limited understanding my agro aura and the Heroes natural resistance to the taunt effect make it probable somebody on my team will eat agro, and that means one less buffer, and cascading failure. At least, IMO. Maybe a Invulnerabilty/Dark Melee tank, that is somehow both softcapped DEF AND a ton of Rech, this will bring up Invul Heal often, and keep the build on its feet. i do this with a DM/Invul Brute, on a pure RECH build to great affect, but unsure if the build could be worked into a Tank with DEF having most of the priority over RECH.
I did Tank LR in STF, and it was easy peasy. Tin Mage also offers no problems. Havent tried the Praetorian challenge. I also do not see my build having a problem with any +0/x8 mobs, any creature type, including Psi. Trying to think, seems one group like to nerf me and it gets annoying, but with inspirations not a prob. Something about nerfing defense, and oh yeah, group also nerfs recharge. is it Nemesis? Anyways, makes it tough to tank cause taunt doesnt come up fast enough. Not too big a survival prob tho. Cannot remember, definitely no problem with Cims or Riktii. And maybe the ones I see a problem with are set at higher than +0, I run with some pretty aggressive group leaders sometimes, as we all find in the 50 groups. -
My softcapped Willpower (softcap to all except Psi, that at 35%) only hits the tier 9 when doing things like having to tank all heroes in the LRSF because the pull went horribly wrong. Other than that nothing bothers him, and I mean nothing.

Made some changes based on suggestions. again, not going for survivability (at all0. will either be running with 7 other tanks or in an AE farm tailored to my needs. Its all about the Aoe madness and fun. again, thanks for all input.

Very nice Mr. Liberty. Thank you. I need to think about it for a day. I already have a softcap build on this tank. This will be an alt build I run during Tanker Tuesdays and such, when I am trying to be lead Blapper. Or, hey I'm a Brute, I'm a Brute. Therefore giving up 2 AoEs is getting away from my concept. But I gotta say, I love how you build. I am going to try to squeeze some of your concepts back into my build, keeping Soul Tentacles, and Hand Clap, and definitely adding a 6th slot to FS, my bread and butter. I love butter. Thanks for the build, it definitely opens my eyes to how a slight change in angle can alter something like this.

K, I will make a build with Soul Mastery. And I did read the last thread carefully. It is just that I keep going back to the same ideas when I am in character gen. You are right about going over 5 sets for the rech, danged, even taking 2 hours on this I was rushed. It looks like the Soul Mastery build will be 6 purple sets, an imperfect number. Still, it does make sense. THis is the only toon I am running for 2011, so the Glad Proc is worth it to me, one slot for +3% def. Heres the next attempt:

Thanks Syntax. That actually makes complete sense without seeing the formulas. I will drop in hasten, and reconfigure the build without going for global damage bonuses unless they fall into my lap. Putting all my efforts into Recharge, ensuring that the attacks that are my bread and butter are all at or very very near ED, and then taking the rest of the build and making it as tanky as I can with what I have left. I really enjoy all the Procs I am planning for him, especially all the ones in jab. Between that and brusing it will be a fun little power to watch.
The one reason I went with Mu instead of Soul is I figure I will be doing far more AoE work with this build than ST. The two times I really want to show it off are when I am with 7 other tanks (so huge spawns) or when I am grinding AE for cash. When I am running arcs with EBs in them it would be better to have Soul Mastery and Gloom (Use it on a brute I have), but it still will be no problem on this build. I currently take them on with the softcap build, which is not a very heavy hitter, without any effort really. I normally do not like pets, but even though I am reconsidering that choice it seems like it could increase damage output significantly. -
Okay, before we go too far off topic. I know this guy will never compete with a similarly budgeted and well put together Scrapper, or Brute, or Blapper. Very good points have been made by everyone that has posted so far. But again, this is an optional build (the main soft cap def tanky build is already in place) that I will be using on a limited basis, when survivability is not a problem, and I want to go from low 4WD into high 4WD. I understand I will never make this particular build 2WD, and definitely not a street racer. It's just once in a while I want to go above 30 mph. Addendum: I am limiting myself to doing that on this toon instead of alting to a better archtype/powerset choice because I have decided to only run this toon for 2011.
I tried with Mids. I am really horrible with it. For some reason my last power pick Summon Mu would only allow me to slot 2 Enh, when I know there is 3 at 50. And therefore that set is 3/6, should be 4/6.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Currently I am using a tier 4 Cardiac Core Paragon, so hopefully that will keep the beast fed. Was thinking about going to a +dam, or +rech Alpha on the damage build, but having realized what a shard black hole i20 is going to be I will probably just stay with Cardiac on both builds for a few months.
Just tried to plot this guy in Mids, sigh. 1/2 hour, hardly got anything done. In my mind I can see it, but I know I have to plan it out careful or I will be off a slot. I will try to work on it more this week. Really wanted it done before i20. I have a free respec I want to use up on the build I leveled him up on,l still S/O'd. -
Yeah. I have set up a lot of chains on this topic. Keep trying to focus into the point. Keep getting off target slightly. Like this thread. Has gone into the "do not try that on a Will/SS tank." Which is good advice. Except. The thing is I have been running this guy on a softcapped build for the last month. Exclusively. He is the only character I plan to run in 2011. Building a nice hoard of shards for i20 too. So this build is for 2 main purposes. 1)Ouroboros and other solo work 2) Being the eighth tank on a team (Tanker Tuesdays) Basically anytime survivability really isnt a question. Depending if I can find the right farm, I might also run the build in AE to make a tidy profit. I will throw together my purple'd build for critique. I am really horrible at I/O sets, which is why I am asking for the help. I wish there were more Purp and PvP type stuff so that doing a good I/O build did not take days of research. Putting together a good build is as tough as prepping for a calculus exam, at least for me.

I am trying to build a high dame Will/SS/Mu tank. I looked through the tank forums for the last year, no Will/SS Damage build. It is a very unpopular build to solo Pylons with I guess lol. But I have a desire to do it (not solo pylons, but get a big damage build), so I will.
I was thinking of throwing 6-7 Purple sets into it, then just cramming w/e else I can to finish it out. The thinking is 5 sets @ 5 for the Rech bonuses (Grav Anchor, Hecatomb, Armageddon, Absolute Amazement, Ragnarok), then 2 sets w/ diff bonuses @ 4 (Apocalypse, Soulbound Allegiance), for the global damage bonus. I am not worried about the cost, but am not sure that is the most efficient way to get to my goal.
Any thoughts? -

Found this posted on a Brute forum from almost a year ago by Helincarnate. I desperately want to tweak it onto my Tank as his alt/damage build. Maybe add more full purple set bonuses. But cannot decide if it is better the way it is. Also want to put a proc damage in Jab, cause leading with Jab for Bruising just makes KO Blow even funnier.

I am challenged by it. I have committed to one Toon for 99% of my gaming in 2011, just to see how it goes. A Will/SS tank. I softcapped him to all but Psi, that at 35%+, and have been very nicely tanking for every team I run with.
I was already thinking about doing a second "damage" build on him. looks like this high end content might make a 3rd buildout specifically for i20 content a possibility as well. Since we will be dependent on each other so much more than before. Only on Master runs do I have to do anything besides get to a group, taunt, pull, FS, etc now. On Master runs, of course, it all changes. Sounds like most i20 content will be based around well built/run teams more than any one individual uber-buildout. What that means as far as how to build for that content, especially on a Willpower Tank, is yet to be seen. But it is great to see challenging stuff being thrown out. Even if I go from running the bestest shiniest happy taunt bot to becoming the semi-squishy better know what my team is doing by the second and watch how I do stuff guy. -
Not to put to fine a point on it, but I think i would prefer to buy a new computer than try to do everything that set of instructions asked me to do. I play the game for fun, and that looks like a wasted afternoon of computer hacking.

I have the same problem. You can hear the poor thing whine all the time i have CoH up. My comps about 5 years old, I run on almost minimal graphics, and it starts as soon as I launch CoH. Thats right, when I hit the new launcher.... Just wish I could remember if it was doing it before I installed that thing a week or two ago. I know it was not acting like this all the last 4 years I've had the game anyways. Just recently it started. Anyways, now, as soon as I hit launch CoH from my desktop my comp starts acting like a 100 year old running a marathon.
Someone mention add CoH to safe programs or something. I am unsure how to do it, but the concept sounds good. i run Norton antivirus if anybody's got a tip....
