Okay, I know it's an odd thought. But I was looking at my SS/Invul Brute as he is getting close to time to slot Kinetic Combat's, and realized I was short a melee power to get 5 sets in. And I looked at Brawl.... Now, I'm going for a high end build, and I am playing with some ideas friends have tossed out. The recharge is gonna be good, so that last attack, whether it be Brawl, or the 1st SS attack, or another pick from another pool, it really won't be in the attack chain unless Rech debuffed (er, I think) So, would it be crazy to throw 3 more slots at Brawl, giving myself another power pick and using it to mule KC?

My SS/FA is Alpha'd with damage, purp'd to the gills, and relies on one thing only - doing damage to everything around it ASAP. He is fun, and while I regularly break down toons for parts, he will probably be in my stable for years to come, even though he costs way too much.
Even when he dies, it just works out worse for the enemies. He has huge global recharge (all those purps, sigh), and when he dies Rise of The Pheonix is always available. So much so it's almost part of the attack chain lol.
He is definitely not 'tanky', but he is much more survivable than I thought he would be when I built him. I have read a lot about defense, and resists, and what all the numbers mean in the game mechanics. But you know what works really really good for survival? Killing EVERYTHING around you really quick.

I use MIDs, but I am horrid with it. You had me sold with AoE attack that does knockdown. I cannot figure out how a teleport is a "spring attack" Shouldnt this be in the TP pool? Anyways, thanks.

Thx Kitsune. I think I will try it for my SS/Brute. I have never used either of the other powers, since I was never that interested in the power set(s) to level somebody far enough to use them. SS is light on AoE, and this will allow me an AoE way before FS. Definitely worth trying at the cost of a respec out if things go poorly.

A new PBAoE, with a Teleport? Is this a variation of shield charge/lightning rod? Anyone use this? Is it any good?

I have been playing exclusively exalted since it opened. Was slow leveling a character, but am about to just grind it to 50. Anyways, I have had good and bad experiences there, like anywhere. I got a few blind invites.... I was soling arcs, easy to just hit no. As usual (any server) if someone blind invites you once, expect another invite over the course of the next few minutes/hour. I have been asked, and as usual, these conversations are pleasant, whether yes or no. I ran a couple missions in Shark last night with some teams. Nice folks, overall knowledge level not great. But we killed the AVs, even with zero strategy. Luckily I am on a Invul Brute, so I don't get irritated when the floor drops out, I just dig in and fight until I die.

All in all I like Exhalted. It is pretty much the same player base I have been dealing with for my 4 years in the game (paying compatriots). What i like about it is 2 things. 1) Everybody who is on Exhalted is making a conscious decision (with cash) to be part of the community. 2) Everyone who is running to Freedom, Virtue, and any other server while trying out the game for free cannot send me tells to PL them, kick them down cash, or generally eat up my funtime.

Speaking of maximizing respecs, I am seriously looking at that +10 enhancement inventory. My 8 or so free respecs would become effectively 16 for the purposes of stripping characters. from fully pimped and purpled to a shattered hulk in less than 5 respecs, NICE.

Weird, I would have sworn that the X-Ray beams specifically was something I had a problem with a year or so ago.

Not really interested in selling, thanks. But I do need a lower level one for a character I am running, and need to trade for someone who has one on a 50 and doesnt need it to be 50. THey never lose their value in exemplaring, so what level a 50 has doesnt matter.

I Can kick in 250 mil for the trouble of someone making the transaction.

I am considering altering the size for my character. He would be shorter. If I am remembering right, if I make him too short the laser beam eye animation will actually emenate from above his head, since it is pretty much designed for standard size male character and never moves. Is that right?

I can sorta understand the not being able to trade/sell/whatever a altered enhancer. Cool. But there should be a way for it to go back to unaltered for these transactions then, yes?

I can open the paragon rewards screen. I have 5 unspent tokens, but I cannot find a way to spend the darned things....

How do you spend the tokens in the graphical user interface? I cannot find the danged system for doing it lol.

I love purple I/Os. I love them too much lol. I tend to run melee characters, and on 2/3 of the builds I go for they are useless. A noted exception is on high recharge buildfs. High Recharge high end builds run on Purps like nitrous oxide. Look carefully at what you want out of a character before you start investing in purps. They are for very high end builds, and for very high end builds sometimes they are exactly wrong. Good luck.

It got a little off topic from time to time, but there are real gems of knowledge in here about the City of Defense theory.

I am currently setting about gathering the enhancers for a solid SS/Invul Brute that I'll drive as my main for quite a while, and this post was very helpful. I just wish Invulnerability had as much DDR as shield lol.

Mauk, I know you may think it's no big deal. I struggle with quite a few things in this game. First, I sorta bumble in missions from time to time, which is why I like Brutes. Soloing is easy, and your job on a team could not be clearer. Second, the Market. Sigh. I do auctions for a living and it just seems like work. And character builds. After 2 years of calculus and endless years of accounting you would think this would be natural for me. It ain't. I second guess every placement and constantly look for another angle.

For instance. I started looking at the numbers in this build. I was thinking "maybe i can strip a little def off the top, and put something else in." After all, S/L is over 45%. I have a Vet Shield pet for the alpha at range, and in melee the 1st mob will softcap me. Then I started reading some posts about defense from people I see post a lot of wise stuff. Saying things like shielders should maybe carry 47% as a cushion to help out Def Debuff Res. And anything over 50% is really a waste. This was a huge addendum to what I had always read was the golden rule of 45% before. But since I specifically switched the build from Will to Inv to take advantage of DDR, gotta roll with that logic. Plus in the trials 45% isn't the cap, and we all know every serious toon has to do a few weeks in those bad boys.

I started stripping another toon for parts last night. (I only have about 3 mains running with high end builds at any one time-thank gawd for vet respecs) I am trying to find a trading partner for a Glad Proc def +3% 50, for a Glad 10. Especially since I am slow leveling the character I will appreciaste these in early. Currently at level 21, and not earning exp until I finish all First Ward arcs. (Taking advantage of the Death from Below minor buff)

Again, thank you very much. You say it may not be optimal, I'll take your word for that. But it is definitely better than what I would have done. This build should put me solidly where I want to be, a very dependable member of any strike force I can jump onto. Have a great day.

P.S., after much research I found one slight change. Which I am unsure about lol. There appears to be an exploit to be taken advantage of by switching the one Cytoskeleton Hami out in Invincibility for a Hami Enzyme. It's already hitting ED, but, it's just pure greed here lol.

Yeah, I am really really crappy on the market, I hate it, and I struggle with getting what I consider enough "good stuff". But if I see a new player who just seems flabbergasted by it all I always kick down a few million. A few just cheerfully say thanks, but most just get really confused.

I have a Glad +3% Def level 50 I would like to trade for a Glad +3% Def level 10, or anything in the teens. I can sweeten the deal. If anyone is interested let me know.

Thanks everyone. I get it now. They are standard contacts. I will finish them by 24, by turning off experience. I may do them by 21, cause I got that 7 day death from below power going. I not only do these arcs, but all standard arcs. Therefore "level management" is a major portion of my leveling job, especially before 30. And that was before all the new content.

I just hit 20, since I am slow leveling, doing every contact. I will start gathering the materials for this build, and slotting them as I level up to the enhancers. It looks like I will run him exactly like this. Except, he's an ornery little bot named Snarky, not Heracles lol. Other than that you nailed it. Many many thanks.

There seem to be a lot of contacts in first ward. I like to take a character and run them through all the arcs in the game. To do this i normally have to turn off exp earn a fe times. But sometimes i get lucky. Can you get contacts/do all the arcs in first ward, if you are say 50th level?
