  1. There is almost no way to get a good contact list blueside. This is because they did something to make it seem less repetitive over the years. Multiple contacts give the same story arc, but you only unlock one of them. So I approached it completely differently.

I did the new content 1-4. (I always stop earning experience on the last level before I out level everything.) You are introduced by contacts to other contacts, and that is the easiest thing about the process. Once I have exhausted all contacts I was introduced to, used the "find contact" button, etc I then go to City Wiki. http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Hero_Story_Arcs. I verify I did all the arcs, got all the "souvenirs" Then I run the bank mission for that level group. I have yet to have a contact be offered when I do this, and that means they got nobody else lol.

I am also running all level appropriate Task Forces. I am also badging all location and plaques etc. I do not think this guy will be a badger per se, since I envision him being just Blueside, but it is nice to get them since I'm spending so much time on him. I'll also do Giant Monsters and such when i can get them. Maybe at the end of it I'll organize monster hunts and zone event parties to fill out all the stuff I missed.
  2. Seriously. This guy is a creep. Not like "ooh Scary, whata cool creepy effect"

the guy is a social foulup and reading anything he says brings a close approximation of physical pain. Worse, that advances the storyline NOTHING.

I would seriously give bonus props if his creepiness helped the story ( Shining anyone?) But this guy is written so bad, and has so little reason for existenc I sincerely hope a decent editor actually exists somewhere in the bowels of NC Soft. Cause he needs major help, including just deleting if nothing else is easily done.
  3. Err. my softcapped SS/Invul Brute eats everything. EVERYTHING. Not even sure sometimes what he is fighting, does it ever really matter? The heal. right. Isn't that sort of a button you need to hit every day or so? Not kidding. With a good build Invul Brute should just soak up all content, eat what it want, and throw the bones on the refuse heap of whatever AT wants it. I am currently re-making this exact same build in a solo Blueside project. What has given me a challenge so far. (at 28th...) Thinking, right NOTHING. The freaking beast eats it all, the hardest part about soloing the game is READING. (Some of this writing is particularly horrid. Can someone fix Midnight in 1st ward? I am not kidding. The writing is so bad on him it is embaraaing to play the game. I would rather eat a mystery meat taco than run thru his dialogue again. The dude is creepy, and not in a way that advances the story. More like ugly Joe in the cubicle down the aisle creepy...) ) Also, I have sat through more than my share of being attacked while reading dialogue. Guess what, I ignore the attackers. If (big if) I need to keel them they are only pumping my rage for the moment I cut loose. Seriously, SS/Invul Brute are the top of the food chain if you are looking at intersecting curves of survivability and damage output. Once you I/O them the story just keeps getting sweeter.
  4. it's a big bucket sure. But it only holds so much. Figure you like this attack, okay, it is a upper level attack. Figure you got some global rech in the build, and some rech in the power itself. fair? figure you are running Inuln., not Will. fair? You are really seriously ruining your own numbers from the inside!!!!!!!!! look at it. It aint pretty. Compare it to ANY other primary. It just "wait, what is that sound, like a giant vacuum....it is the SUCK...RUN!!!!!!"

  6. Thx Kazz. Talked to my wife about this (the final word...) She says that based on my origins the character will fly based on sheer willpower.

Finished 1st ward. Really nice story, great graphics. Why is Midnight a panty smelling freak? Seriously. The dude is off. It would be understandable if he was a head drilled zombie, but as a "great wizard" he is developmentaly challenged beyond the pale. Killing him for effect only slightly (slightly) softens his content. That needs to be fixed, really fixed. Other than that a great run in 1st ward. THe experience is good. You do a lot of talking/reading, so the big exp pops are nice there. Shows you do not have to grind to get good exp, a trend I hope the Devs keep on.
  7. Since Phase Shift is a location AoE now it is useless against flying creatures or in Aerial combat. Not sure that will be a huge change, since most people do not use it (or run Grav) because Teams throw bricks at Grav Doms. Personally I like it, the idea about phasing doors and ambush sites is brillaint. But it does have the locked to a surface problem now. Any thoughts?
  8. Name sold 2 bilion, thanks for the input.

I also have Baron Blood available on Freedom. As long as I'm clearing out.
  9. As I rounded 24 to 25 I had 275 badges, 236 merits, and 10 Alignment Merits. My merits are down because I am converting them to Alignment Merits, and have converted 7 so far. I need to start doing the "Who will Die" story arcs for more, but have been pretty busy.

I will be posting at the end of every major or cool story arc, or after 2-3 boring ones in the future. Bundling 20-24 all in one post was counterproductive to the nature of what I am trying to do here.

I am saying stun is useless. In the world that I inhabit there are around 10 levels of cool

    1) killing mob in a super cool way
    2) killing mob
    3) protecting self
    4) debuffing mob
    5) holding mob
    6) immob mob
    7) KD a mob
    8) Stun a mob
    9) turn a mob a cool color when you hit them
    10) knock a mob back

Its not a comprehensive list, but it gives you an idea. Stun is pretty near useless. In fact it is right above useless (turning a mob a color) and slightly above annoying (knocking a mob away) What is more, the Stun effect in EM doesnt work against anybody you need it to. Sure you can stun a Lt and maybe a Boss if you work at it. Excuse me, just kill them. You are prob not going to stun an Elite Boss, and very rarely an AV. whereas Dark has an effect that gets applied to every attack that is useful. Fire just does more damage. Just about every set has a better secondary effect than Stun. Then the people who designed Energy Melee gave it the worst AoE in the game (it practically has no AoE) I have run Dark Melee characters (a lot) and they have better AoE than Energy Melee. If necessary you can use two buff attacks as ghetto AoE on Dark. Then, the Energy Melee set damages you. Seriously.

Its like the people who designed it were like "We want to create the worst powerset in the game, we think we're on to something with Energy Melee, but it's just not there yet."

Joe walks by "Make it do damage to the user."

"Perfect, Joe you are a genius."
  11. I do not rolling on Freedom hardly at all, yet have this kinda cooll name, up for auction, whats your bid? name is "Arbiter Death"
  12. So can you Dimension Shift mobs, (using the new rules) then use Phase shift to follow them (and using the new rules) they are immob, so blast them to oblivion for a few seconds, safe from both them and from non phased mobs?

Oh yeah. i was not asking for either of those. If I asked could I get it, heh. I was just bringing them up for comparison. Stun is a crap secondary effect unless you run around farming Port Oakes street fights your entire career with exp shut off around 12.

That's why I said that Energy Melee's stuns aren't that effective because in normal situation, a total focus/energy transfer can only stun most minion/lts and if you add two more hits, it's likely to stun a boss, but that's about it. It needs more reliable secondary effects and since you only have one pbaoe, it's unlikely to "extend" that secondary effects.
I'm not even talking against AVs, although -to hit, -res (please) or any buff type effect is great. Stunning a minion or Lt? Pah-leese. If on a high end team you are not killing minions and Lts with a backhand slap you need to get more fury or look at your build. Stunning level 50 Bosses/ 1st) is it worth it? A level 50 Brute has zeroed in on a level 50 Boss... How many seconds does the boss really have in his future? So he is stunned for the last 3 secs of his existence. Whee! The most damage that Boss is gonna do to the Brute is when the Brute self inflicts damage with ET.

so, the only class of creature stun might be useful against is Elite Boss. anybody good with book learning out there know how much oomf an Energy Melee Brute has to throw at an EB to get some dizzy time? and how long that lasts?

Yeah, give me -res, or -tohit, or moah dam. If you have to give me Stun for thematic reasons, okay. But do not under any circumstances hand me that crap sandwich and tell me how good it's gonna taste.

We have some more changes coming for Gravity Control in i22 to help improve the set’s control capabilities. In addition to the new Impact mechanic and the quickening of Propel (which helps soft-control from Knockback), we’ve made a major change to Dimension Shift and some minor tweaks to Wormhole.

    Dimension Shift:
    • This power is now a Targeted AoE toggle. It will phase and immobilize everything within its sphere of influence, and can be sustained for up to 20 seconds. Enemies who move into the radius after the effect has begun become immobilized and phased. If the power is toggled off before its maximum duration, affected targets become un-phased shortly thereafter, allowing players to functionally control the duration of the phasing.
    Wormhole:
    • This power’s radius has been increased to 20 feet, up from 15 feet. It also no longer causes enemy NPCs to attack the user, assuming the user has not used any other attack powers on their opponents. This allows Gravity Control characters to use Wormhole as an initiation power without risking death during its attack animation.

You'll see these changes on the i22 VIP Beta soon after it goes up.
I hate to say it, cause I am a grump. This addresses most of my issues (In theory...) and it looks like i may have to create another grav/nrg dom. With perma the control powers pop up enough to be useful, even in Grav's woefully short arsenal. Having DimShift as a useful tool that the team won't (always) threaten to kick you over is nice. I love propel, could never justify taking it in a "smart" build, and now I can take it without feeling like a clown. (Yet still get to be one!)

so, jeez, yeah, (on paper only) this looks great. Of course it has to survive Beta and someone "fixing" it there. Yeah, I'm going to hold off ordering the party hats.
  16. I'm a 4 1/2 year vet and I've changed my global 2 times I remember and maybe a third as well. Not sure the mechanism for when these come available. It is not often, choose carefully.

    Data Usage

disable the sending buffs option. not exactly sure how to do it. this is a huge constant data traffic between your comp and the host, and is suggested as a ghetto fix for lag in trials.

The blinking icon is in the upper right, away from the action. i keep the little damage bonus right over my combat tray (i keep one bottom center for all my attacks) When my dagae turns red I immediately shift to vet attacks, or combine insp, or eat a blue, etc.

Now, do you know when you stack Rage the defense crash goes away? Its not a hard power to stack, so look into that. Your damage still goes to crap for 10 secs, but your survival stays smooth.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
It is on the City Wiki under issue 22 changes. That's all I know, and the source for that comment is not cited there. I would really like to use something besides Super Strength once in a while lol.
  20. Thx for the tips Demetrios. A jet pack fits my concept, but the constant trips to FBZ does not. I know that trick about the Jump pack and Steam Jump, (have both) ghetto afterburners lol. The Jingle Jet has served me well. It clips with my giant character, and I will be glad to say goodbye to it. I have the power slot for fly already figured into my final build. This is a slow leveled up version of a 50 I have playtested already, softcapped and fights meaner than a wet cat. The Fly power's enhancer even gets a Winter's Gift slow resist global, using the whole cow approach. The character is on Virtue. A stoic loner character mostly though. Feels it's his responsibility to save the entire city lol. This character will exempt exceptionally well, having almost all tuned enhancers, globals, and a couple sets of Purps. I am thinking of running a second one of these as my badger, was going to do something else, but am having problems finding anything I like. This character's concept is way too fixed to allow villainry. (Unless my wife helps with storylines, she is a genius at such things)
  21. And finished all content 20-24. Wow, that seemed very long compared to the times I have done it redside. Part of it is I am now doing Hero tips, but that is not huge. There is a lot more content Blueside. The Striga storyline was interesting. I love the plaques on Striga about the lost ship, very dark, very human. More on the Sky raiders from another contact. The Sky Raiders are ex-military? Add that to the fact that their commander dresses like Las Vegas showgirl and I think we got a theory on why they left. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, just trying to fit the puzzle together. Nothing else stands out greatly in this level range, except too many hunts. Did I mention too many hunts? Oh, did figure out where the Lost are in Terra Volta. Just a little ways in from the door and down into a pit. And evidently nowhere else. These were tough at 24th, but I only had to run once. The Sky Raider hunt(s) in TV are also easier since there are bands of about 10 Captains who stand on walkways, far to the front right as you enter TV. The doppelganger storyline stood out as very nice. That is the one they added with GR I think? My clone died saving the worlds from my clones...

Now doing First Ward as my first arcs in 25-29. I know I could have done them in 20-24, but decided to shift them into this set. My plan is to do most solo storylines as soon as they come up, even if they are 25-50 or w/e. Task Forces and Trials I will wait until either max level (+3) or until some of my friends mention they are running one I need that I am at least minimum level for. Will be getting Hurl at 26 and Invincibility at 28. Plan is for Fly at 30, and of course Footstomp at 32. I am currently using a Jingle Jet, but at the pace I am on I do not think it will last though too many more levels. Bought some Tuned reactive armors on the Paragon Market. The character is using a lot of tuned partial sets, and that sure does help on a big project like this.

I wrote down all my stats at 24. I will edit the post tonight with all the merits, badges, etc.
  22. No worries. To be honest I never paid it any attention. on builds I am softcapping I am so wrapped up in set bonuses, min/maxing various slots, and hammering it together I am looking at the final number rather than what any one bonus does. With SO builds i just throw a def on when no other slot fits anywhere else. As soon as you said schedule B I was like, well of course they are lol.
  23. Thanks for the correction gameboy1234.

I think this thread is specifically about set bonuses. Those cannot be enhanced. If you do have a defense power than you can slot enhancers to just about double it, yes. But set bonuses themselves are unalterable. They do stack however. Which is the point of getting 1.25% here, 3% there, etc. Stack those on top of a Defense armor, add combat jumping, Fighting's Weave, Leadership's Manuevers, (all of which can be enhanced) and you are closing in on that magical 45%.

45% is known as the soft-cap since you can go over it but anymore is pointless. Until it's not pointless, but again, the conversation just keeps getting deeper. again, check out Dech's link in this thread a few posts back for a very good run down of what you need to know.

Aren't stuns pretty worthless in the high end modern game? Serious question. I would personally trade the stun effect for anything besides KB and be happy. Its a toss up (for me) whether Knock Down or Stun is the better special effect. But I would literally take anything over Stun or Knockdown. I perceive both to be near worthless for what I need from a set.
