Quote:I'm trying to figure out why you said you need dark as invul for the end hole. Do you mean that inv needs end recovery tool? It's never struck me as end heavy set. It's certainly not dark.
If by that you mean you hate end drain then electric and dark both have some drain protect.
I think its fairly obvious but willpower is probably the easiest mixed set to softcap, the other resist sets I would settle for 32.5 and just eat a purple.
Of course if you are soloing all these missions on one player I don't really see why that would be important.
I think no matter what you're going to find a villain group or type that is annoying for you. I think it's just a matter of deciding what you want to be a pain and what not.
Anyway in terms of build up i think fire wins that category but you won't softcap. But my moderately io'ed fire/fire tank feels very powerful at 0x8. Or just roll a granite brute, haha.
On it's own Invulnerability will tend to get really out of wind during long fights. Especially when coupled with fighting armors (very smart) Manuevers is a nice add when going for softcap. And i usually pair it with SS, and the rage crash is a real kick in the teeth every 2 min. I have a lot of experience running heavily armored Invul characters, and without serious help they are blue hungry monsters. My current is a SS/Invul at 29, with the 3 invul toggles, Fightings 2 toggles, and CJ. Without even footstomp yet (lvl32) I am steadily running out of end in long fights, and I already have 1 +End Proc. (My final build on that has 3) Yeah, invul is End nuetral to End heavy, depending on how you build it.
When you pair Dark Melee with Invul magic things happen. Then End problems all go away. You develop a small regular heal to supplement the big HP increasing heal only available every few minutes. The debuff in dark adds to the toughness of the build. Oh yeah, it locks up tight. Add any I/Os, literally any, and it always gets tougher. I built a DM/Invul Brute once for pure rech, and it was insanely tough.
But, I need to figure this project out now lol. -
I am currently running an effective one person SG. I started it in lateDecember. My wife has 3 alts in it. She does not (or rarely) runs them. Thats the whole roster. I have been soloing on this character since late december, and have generated enough prestige to set up a control room and power center for the base. I will soon lay in the hospital and my first porters.
-
Okay, have you played the new arc for new heroes? The one where you join the budding super group? You know how I knew it was fiction? When we went into the SG base. I was like "Your base has Elevators, this isn't a real SG" Thats when I knew SPOILER ALERT that the "new SG" was being set up by someone and completely faked out. Real SGs don't have elevators. Or anything besides boxy little rooms.
And why? We know from the AE Editor that any map is available as an instance. As if we did not have years of play to tell us that. What if I want the layer cake cave room as my base. Why not? Seriously, why not? It's like the Devs have all this content they can sell, like a businessman with all this inventory. But they decide not to sell it. Nah, I'll just sell some screwdrivers and hammers. I know I have a limitless supply of powertools I could sell, but, nah, why would I do that?
My suggestion. Let everyone keep the bases they have, if they want. But offer new maps as well. Make the prestige easier to get so small but established SGs can easily move to the newer maps. In fact, make future prestige earning at double theclip, and double the prestige everyone has to allow them to immediately start using the new shineys. There are dozens of other solutions for that end. But seriously, its an imaginary unlimited resource. Put a Vator option item so an established SG can keep their current map, then build out to different "levels" with new maps added on.
My reasons.
1)its a lot more fun for SGs. base editors/SG members
2) The Devs can make sky high stacks selling stuff thats more fun.
Seriously, all of this is available and it seems like imaginary prestige pricing is the only technical issue standing in the way. -
Quote:Strangely, though a have run the LGTF quite a few times, slow and fast, there is not a lot more to it than the cutscene. remember, CityofX used to do a lot of "you got that right" storytelling. There idea of developing something into the plotline was to have one character say something once about it. Most of the Clock/Penny drama is from her plotline. Sure, the LGTF is a major moment. But only by understanding Penny do you understand Clock. You have to see him through her eyes. And that won't happen if you just run the LGTF X times. There, he is a baddie, he has trapped the girl, you smack him down. There are subtleties to her comments that are only understood if you have read her story.Sadly, I've only ever run the Lady Grey TF twice, and both times we stealthed much of that mission (against my will, might I add) so I'm really not entirely certain what happens in there. However, based on what I've seen between Penny and the Clock King in Faultline, I can take your word for it. Penny seems like a good kid while the Clockwork King seems like a spurned monster who's given up on the world, but found someone who isn't sickened by him and is trying - albeit in an awkward, stilted way - to keep the relationship going and protect the girl from harm.

Quote:Yeah, I do not play hover melee ever. But I will be using fly a lot to stealth stuff. Its my favorite travel power. But I see the mez prot is separate in Elec, so mostly should be fine. You alreadymentioned having IOs set aside for this new project, that alone should take care of a lot of end concerns.
You can take Fly and be just fine, you just don't want to be a hover scrapper. But as a travel power, Fly is perfectly fine.
As far as I/Os, with 0 defense in Elec it looks like it will be a big hill to get to softcap. I doubt I will have extras to throw at trying spectacular shifts in End Mgt except a Perf Sh +End. In fact the more i seriously consider this project the more I am looking at Elec Armor as a problem and not a solution. Can this stuff even be softcapped?
To give an idea, right now I am on a 29 Brute who is soling all Blueside. Mostly I stealth, grab glowies, rescue hostages, kill all, yada yada. Sometimes I have to (like last night) rescue 8 hostages, 4 glowies. Well, ya miss one, ya know. The easiest way then is to slowly walk past each group and find the guy. On my brute I am literally ignoring all mobs. I do not hit a heal, I do not hit an attack, I just ignore them. I stealthed it orig so I wouldnt have to deal with a crowd, ya se. Not because the crowd could hurt me. I want that same ability from a Scrapper, (or nearly), with a crap ton more upfront damage. I can manage some trade off, i know a Willpower Scrapper is never gonna be as tough as a Invul Brute. But I do not want something that will fold like a taco when the map goes nutz. I have never run Elec Armor, so I am unsure what that runs like. -
I'm playing Virtue exclusively now. I was a Freedom player for a couple years. They are two very different communities. Freedom has a more wild west feel amongst its players. They can be ornery and ignorant and mean spirited, but its the wild west, what did you expect. There are also some very very very good players/channels on Freedom. Top notch if you know where to look or get lucky or *gulp* research. Also, I found Redside Freedom (Where I played mostly) to be very fun. Virtue is quite different, I would say more hardcore geek fan fiction types. Heavy RP community. I recently got in a lot of trouble on Virtue for asking (by asking I mean advertising I would pay 20 million a run for a good farm). The community shut me down, and I mean hard. On Freedom? Heh. Those peeps trade sky high stacks yo, and farming is a sub community that is deeply entrenched. I only mentioned the event because it illustrates the difference in the servers. Please lets not discuss it further.

Yes, I am soloing Blueside, and logging it in a thread in Brutes forum. I was railing this morning about the difficulties of understanding the writing, how they could be better.... And then the caffeine kicked in and I realized that many of those problems do not exist, and by and large the writing is much better and the stories do evolve in a more organic fashion. Time travel is a b^?@%.

Quote:Well, they could get a GO game and just sit there and endlessly play.Despite their differences, one would think that Recluse would be a bit furious at Darrin for killing Statesman, if for no other reason then Recluse was saving that pleasure for himself.
But, Statesman and Recluse are truly immortal/eternally young (ok States isn't anymore), these two were fated to outlive the entire human race if it came down to that, yet in the end they'd still have each other.....imagine Earth being a desolate wasteland and only Recluse and States were left alive simply because of their immortality? Quite possibly that could be considered a fate worse then death. All their hatred and attempts to destroy each other, and what is left? A desolate planet, the human race gone..... -
Quote:I'm trying to stay with you dugfromthearth, but I am struggling slightly. I understand you're issues with storylines and npcs, I think. Personally I believe those issues are resolved well with Ouroboros logic, nemesis plots, and other things. (I did an arc last night with a time traveling WW2 agent from the council...) A slight dash of paranoia and anything is really possible. Season to taste. To be clear, I care about the story - but just a simple story
"The Council is hiring laborers then forcing them to join the Council. Fusionette went to stop them but has not been heard from. I need you go to find Fusionette and rescue the kidnapped laborers"
To me that is a fine story. The villains have a reason, I have a reason to go stop them. I expect that instead of a defeat all, I will need to rescue Fusionette and some prisoners.
What I don't want is:
"Once upon a time a man named John did ... wall of text ..."
Worst is the wall of text for a story, followed by "now go defeat all Council in the base"
if you want to play a focused on the moment, give me a reason to be a hero, I see a very easy path forward. You are an Agent of "fill in the blank" Could be Statesman himself, rest his soul. (If he's really dead...If he is really Stateman...Have you ever seen him and Nemesis together, seriously...) or any other individual. The god/superbeing/unidentified energy source/alien that gave you your powers. Anyways, you are set on a purpose. Now, your hero is no genius. (not trying to be insulting, but not every hero is drawn as a super scientist) Your hero knows that a lot is going on he will never understand. (I have a bunch of cliff notes on the CityofX canon and I got no idea) So, your hero sets out to just be heroic. Just save that lady from that purse snatching. Just defeat those 20 mobsters because contact Y says it will help the city, just clear those caves because some hero has to do it. The same attitude as a front line Marine. You just dig in and give it all you got, because you are the frontline. And you know you'll never get the big picture, and you really don't care. Cause its about you, and what you are doing, and that person on your team. Oh, and honor, yeah.
As far as that "Wall of Text" followed by "go kill everyone in that cave." Yeah. Same Marine. Do you know how many times marines have to stand for like an hour listening to a flowery speech about the greater purpose yada yada yada. Then, the sergeant walks over and says "you got your boots, your guns clean, get up that hill, kill anybody on it that aint a marine." -
I think the Clockwork King in the Lady Grey Task Force has a pretty tender moment. This is funny, but I am also serious. If you look at Penny's story arc and some of the things she said. The King is a freak, in so, so, so many ways. But he has also found a connection that he is desperately trying to hold onto. So very human. He has a few gears lose though, lets face it. I think the writing for this was spot on, and the effect was pitch perfect. With the intended/predictable/and fully realized effect that everyone who runs the LGTF makes Snarky comments about poor old King. (Including me, he is an easy target, I take the cheap shot each time)
Also, in First Ward there is that guy at the end (I am horrid with names). I was just complaining in a few threads the other day what a freaky creep he is. And he is, I'll stand by every statement. He comes across as a 14 year old stalker in a 50 year old wizards life. It aint pretty. But the writer's there were trying to do the same thing as with King. I'm not gonna give them a pitch perfect on that one though. I say tone deaf. That thing fell flat. Fail.
But King, for as much as I love to say Snarky things while he's gleefully rubbing his metallic mits together, is a tragic character. Written wonderfully well, and with real understandable drives for a human connection that he will risk anything to maintain. As he so obviously slips away into the depths of his madness. And that is about as tender as it gets. -
I'm pretty seriously considering this Elec/Elec Mauk2. I have some questions. I tend to like fly for ease of getting around (It's a gonna be a big project) and Elec armor loses Immob/Knockback protection in air. Any thoughts? I am assuming you are running SS, and that is probably the way I will go as well. (It would certainly make those endless trips across IP better) And then just stealth when jetpacking otherwise and hope for the best? Also, I have never run Elec. I like the Damage Aura, I rarely get those. But 4 toggles and one is a damage aura. You say no End issues, for real? A lot of my difficult content will be pre 34, pre power sink. also, as a avid DM player I am unsure if I want to use a PbAoE End rec power as the heart of my End Mgt. Or are there hidden things in the Elec/Elec build I am missing? Do those little End drains I see actually add up to something significant? 20' radius on Lightning Rod. emote whistle.

You have atrocious penmanship and you dress in the manner of a male prostitute. There, Critiqued.
seriosly though I ran a SS/Will Brute for almost 6 months with 5 sets of purples and tons of other recharge heavy stuff. He was a hoot. Spamming Footstomp is more effective than you might believe to making a Willpower like a god, although it is a very different strategy than something smart like softcapping defense. Lotta fun! I am halfway considering a SS?Will Brute for my Badger project. There is no set that compares with SS after all. If I do that I will build out a softcapped to as much as easiily possible. S/L, of course. I will also be slapping on a decent amount of recharge, at least enough to stack Rage. The point of my build will be to use it as a platform for Patron attacks and Incarnate abilities. I am also considering a Scrapper, but I hate weapons, and am picky. I really want a Scrapper, but I am down to MA Elec DM and cannot say any of those are impressing me. -
Worked through Laurie Pennington's stuff last night. The time traveling council thing is very interesting. It finally occured to me the problem (one of the problems?) with the old Blueside stories. You go rescue someone right? Then you talk to your contact and they explain how much you learned in the mission you just ran. Hrm. Cause the guy said nothing but "I'm getting out of here."... the Warrior Arc from Laurie was slightly better, even though the subject matter wasn't as cool as time travel. Because the general wanted you to prove yourself, you do, he does the honorable thing.
Ran Tobias Hansens quick arc after that. I had to go to Wiki to decipher his final statement. I missed the one text box in the mission that explained his history I guess. They really need to show you things in the mission if they want to tell stories. Ah, they have improved so much. Forgot I was time traveling.
Getting close to rolling to 30-34 content. I am off for the weekend, but I'm taking an old comp with me and will try to poke at it when everyone is still sleeping (I am an early riser)
I have more Striga Arc, the bank mission, and a verification I didn't miss anything, then I'm rolling into new content and powers. Yeah Footstomp! -
part of it is real quick typing communication. RQ=Real Quick. LFT = Looking For a Team, and a hundred others. mish = mission. anything we can do to shorthand it, ya know. Many of these you will find anywhere, and are just used by us. ROFL, etc.
Others truly are City specific. There are hundreds if not more. AT = arch Type (character class) , each power set is called off by two or three letters. StJ = Street Justice, MA = Martial Arts. Inv/DM = Invulnerabilty Armor/Dark Melee. Also, because of the order it is a tank. A brute or stalker with those powersets would be DM/Inv. It gets thick fast, but there is definitely a pattern, and it's pretty intuitive.

I have soloed redside 3 or 4 times. I am talking every arc, and every side mission, from every contact. I am currently soloing Blueside, every story arc, every side mission, from every contact. This does not make me an expert, just saying I have looked at the content a little.
City of X gets around the problem that you discuss quite beautifully. That's right, a very high compliment from me to the Devs. One that not everyone will agree with I am sure. Yet I can give them this compliment, and I am happy to do so. Here is why. Ouroboros.
City of X has put your character in a world(s) in flux. You are saying the problem is they are fixed. Yes and no. You can run through the stories, and see in the stories/arcs you are running that you are affecting reality. You are saving the city. Or, as a villain, you are amassing sky high stacks yo. Does it stay saved? Heh. Like as if.
For those instances where you feel a story arc you ran should have a major impact? Did you ever consider a Mender was running along behind you and "fixing" what you did? Or, maybe it's all a Nemesis plot.
Yet at the end of your post you say you do not care about the story. Easy fix, either just be on someone else's team and get a lot less story, or ignore the dialogue, or RP and build your own community and stories that you do like. -
Ah, yeah navel gazing. sorry for the confusion. By that I meant a build up that looks back at itself. Like StJ, TW, KM, all of their BU are very much for their own primary attacks. I would prefer a BU like DM that enhances anything, including Patron Pools.
And thx for the heads up on Patron pools, I'll look at those RQ. -
I tend to dislike weapons, redraw. All things being equal I would avoid those. I want a "super" feel and weapons just do not do it for me. Also, I prefer a build up power that easily transfers into a Patron Pool/Incarnate attack chain. A lot of the stuff like StJ, KM, and TW are navel gazing.

I will not be posting here (except for this lol) but I am working on a big project character to be started around i22. This thread has challenged me to do my own drawings and perhaps paintings of the character. Thank you very much. This will take some time, and I am jealous of my creations, but maybe I will end up posting them on the board sometime. Thank you.

Finished Christine Lansdale last night. Interesting story. Fun little arc, and throwing in the lone unidentified nemesis soldier at the end was really nice. I also found out why Marvin had 15 side missions, he had Christines in my run! Either I just sleptwalk through Christine's (some were exactly the same, including the 3 bomb caper I recruited friends for) or there were slightly fewer. Or Marv had his and Christine's, or or or. Anyways, she seemed (slightly) easier. Also, strangely, as I was passing through Talos on a timed mission someone posted on broadcast a memorial was being held for @Salsakitten.
@Salsakitten was a RP on Virtue who passed suddenly. I did not know her. I stood for awhile in solidarity with the community. em holdtorch. It broke my heart to hear how much people cared for her.
My plan for this character has always been to do every bit of Blueside, every single thing a hero can do. I do not think I will encounter a more important thing I could do as a hero than stand there for one of our community that has passed. My thoughts go out to her husband and family. I hope she enjoys the afterlife of her dreams, maybe in another dimension as one of her favorite heroes. -
I am leaning towards a Scrapper. Good damage, fits my playstyle. Having the secondary be armors is better for me than say a Blaster, or even a Dominator's primary. Whereas I can add ranged and AoE thru Patron picks, there is no way to cram health and armors in any real amounts onto a Blaster or Dominator. I can take a Scrapper, and be slightly squishy (bruiseable?) but with some heavy defense laid on that pretty survivable. With a Squishy I think i would have more problems, and the increase in killspeed would in the end not be an increase, especially versus tough fights when I need it most.
I am also thinking Willpower Scrapper, so that I have a ton of Endurance to fuel Patron AoE and Incarnate stuff. That gets me away from using Incarnate powers from filling Endurance/Armor/Health holes as well. Also, I hear the Scrapper ATO is da bomb, the big winner of the Archtype's ATOs. (I hear Brutes got an ATO in name only, the thing is slightly better than a dual origin enhancer)
Now I may change my mind, but that is my current thinking. I am looking for a good Primary, and a concept at this point, then I'll start looking at costumes and names. My Wife says I do all this backward, but everyone has their process. -
Thanks folks, I'll experiment with running and zoning tricks. And yes, it is a deal breaker. and no, I do not get it either.
Also, she is addicted to flying carpet and rocket board, so she toggles on/off a few more times than a veteran player might.
(It took me 15 min to talk her into getting the jetpack for Grandville) -She quietly started using it a few missions later and admitted that to me at the end of the play session. One too many tarantula attacks with no armors up is my suspicion. -
m leaning heavily towards a Scrapper for my next project. I tend to prefer melee types, although I was a redside brute for over 3 years. I run a lot of ss/invul and ss/will and dark/invul. My current project is soloing all content Blueside, and I am doing well on it, so I am looking at my next project.
I plan on getting all badges 99%? as fast as possible. I have taken a hard look at my play preferences, and I think Scrapper is the smart way to go. Most of my missions during my solo all content projects (I have done it a few times redside, this is my first blueside) involve stealthing with short fights over a glowie or for the end boss fight. I also plan to Incarnate the heck outta the guy (will need to for the incaranate content badges anyways)
My thinking is at level 50 a Scrapper is the best base for a character, especially when I plan to solo arcs a lot. For my secondary I have no doubt I want Willpower. It gives me the energy I need to fuel my Patron attack power chain. I love Invulnerability, but if I went with that I would feel the need to pair it with Dark to fill the End hole problem. With Willpower I lose some toughness but gain a huge amount of End power, and my health is on a non clicky maintenance, so I can use my time spamming attacks better. I will be trying to Softcap the armor as much as possible. Already have a +3 Glad for it, and will be buying the tuned Kin from the Paragon Market.
But with all that said, what primary? I want something where the Build Up is useful for my Patron Powers and Incarnate Powers. I'm wondering if I'm looking at Dark anyways lol? -
Quote:Have you met Mother? Looking to create a Primal Earth version of herself, an ally, clever, ruthless, powerful... Wait. A competitor? One that (heaven's forbid) may be morally compromised enough to turn on the one that created her? Yeah, no. Yeah, no. Mother is many things, many bad things. But Mother is not stupid.
Hmmm...at first I thought that "Mother" wanted to make a Primal version of herself and was using her Malaise to achieve this...now I don't know what to think...
One thing I do know though..I can't wait for the next two issues
Lisa
If I had to guess at what Morther's motives were on Primal Earth regarding her Primal Earth self it would be assassination machinations against a potential rival. Just sayin'
p.s., yes to logo T-shirts. Why can we not get more variety in logos for Supers? Two intials, with a choice of overlapping in maybe 2-3 interesting ways or straight across is not a lot to ask in a game with this level of graphics. Also, some more variation in logos we do have. Personally I look through them a lot and over the last 4 1/2 years have picked maybe 10 to wear. One, recently for my "damage king" character. I chose the crown, because it reminds me of a hokey business logo it is so bad, and with "Damage King" as a name you gotta push the envelope on stink or go home. -
I did not know @Salsakitten. In some ways I am very new to Virtue, having made the decision to make it my home a few months back. I was passing thru Talos on my current project character, and was on a timed mission. I heard what was going on in broadcast. I decided to join the group. I heard so much heartfelt love for @Salsakitten. I stayed quite a while, and was brought to tears at least once.

any (any) of the ways that Super Dave was vidiotaped. And don't States couldnt be killed that way. It would be perfect. He does a stunt, for charity, but a villain rigs the whole thing so it affects him.
Then you just here this voice "Guys, that really hurt. No, I think I'm dying in here."
