Quote:A Dragon Booster? No!
A Mutant Booster that has lots of animal themed pieces plus a few dragon pieces suggested in the OP? Yes!!!Quote:This does bring up something else that I'd like: I want to be able to use Horns with beast heads. I've got a character that uses the lizard head and I'd love to be able to put horns on that.
And we keep getting so vital costume parts like samurai-helmet-adornment number six instead. -
-
Since when can you do that? Last time I checked not being able to have precisely one of anything in a group was one biggest problems of storytelling via MA.
-
Quote:All you have to do is set them to use the same name for displaying in the objective compass and they'll be grouped as you desire. My idea, which I just noted the need for: Grouped objectives. What I mean is, the ability to have multiple objectives count as a single one. Instead of having to clunkily have, say, Collect Magic Box, Collect Magic Urn, and Collect Magic Stone as separate objectives, they could be folded into the much nicer "Collect 3 Magical Artifacts" instead. (I'm fairly certain you can fake this, but it's a pain, and only really works on linear maps and with certain numbers of entities.)
There's even an entire forum for those you know. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=583
Not that I'd expect people to look for it in the Player Help section. But then again "Suggestions" are "For Fun" as well, so... *shrugs* -
Just out of curiosity,
How was it?
(or is it US notation and means July 1st?) -
Quote:Well I also found hibernate can get very annoying, also totally subjectively. Partly due to its "Oops, I am beat. Reset." nature, or because while frozen you can plan what to do when you get out and noone can prevent your first few moves (I guess) as opposed to every other situation in PvP, and partly because I have seen it used to an extent where I felt like in an ice palace with 4 or 5 icebergs around. So kill them when they come out of Hibernate since they can't go back into it for 90 seconds? Y'know, the whole "learn to play" thing instead of the "whine about something and try to get it nerfed" thing?
Not necessarily wrong, just personally annoying at times and apparently very popular.
But, what I really wanted to throw in...
Wouldnt it be better to increase the level-you-are-set-to of the lower PvP zones?
So that at least in Warburg everyone is 50 too?
Why?
I think it was a noble idea to try to provide a zone for each level range to PvP in without anybody being much more powerful. But aside from that not really being the case right now anyway, the leveling pace has changed a lot, level 50 is a matter of weeks instead of months, so do we really still need 3 zones dedicated to the PvP between levels 15 and 40 ? Wouldnt it be better if level 50s could PvP in more than one zone without being exemplared down so that they work totally different? -
Quote:Because it de-toggles everytime you get mezzed. (Because its such an evil attack aura for its -ACC I was told)wait why would you not take RTTC? Isn't that the one that destealth's stalkers that get in range? you can slot for health or put in dark watchers for additonal - to hit. I think some claws attks do - def so you can slot cheap procs and if you crit so much the better.
And then has quite a timer, and has a high activation time during which you are even rooted.
And since you ALWAYS get mezzed in PvP ALL the time, even if its just for a fraction of a second and you dont even notice, and reactivating it IF you notice takes forever, RttC is perma-off in PvP. -
Way to ruin a good idea by puking it out at people.
I speak for all of myself when I repeat here that I think having a few instances of each PvP zone (maybe separated into instances with low player limit, for massive mayhem and for RP) that are server-wide is a great idea.
I also think that zone PvP as it is now is totally stupid for unless you are on one of the few PvP-ing server the zones are empty, which is frustrating for those who want to PvP, and that its ridiculous when you can get the rewards for being in there without any danger. -
Quote:Um, well, 'on the top of this forum' in this case means when you click the "For Fun" section out of the many choices ("Make yourselves comfortable & chat about Comics, Lore, Roleplaying, Heroes & Villains in general. Present your suggestions for the game as well as your fan creations for all to admire!" - not something I'd look for basic game info in), and then the "General Discussion" subsection. Not necessarily where every newcomer inevitably looks, and said topic then has a few random channels thrown in after a link to a channel list that leads to a "page not found".such as the global channels listed in the Global Channels list stickied to the top of this forum,
It doesnt explain what global channels are and why you'd want one, doesnt show channels for all servers but only a select few, and is likely highly outdated. Plus even if I had found it like it is now back when I skimmed the forums, I wouldnt have concluded that "global channels", whatever that is, are something I should have for better teaming.
No, I think for a newcomer its not obvious that such channels exist and that you'll want one. -
Quote:I think that may be another very important point. You need people that can play well as part of a TEAM. Which is usually not something the game teaches you or requires, with almost all content being so that you can rush through it with a 'team' that is nothing more than, as someone called it so adequately in another topic, "several people soloing together".We don't require any specific toons... just players that can listen to and follow direction, and have a good time with. I'm not saying we've never failed completely, but that's usually when something extra-ordinary happens and we are severely lacking something on the team (like team members that fall asleep, haha).

Quote:Having tested that because I didnt want to rely on a friend's word that my Broadsword/Super Reflexes elite boss didnt fight back at all back when I didnt give him flight yet, he does indeed fling a throwing knife every 10 seconds or so when you hover in range. That mostly didnt even hit my not really defense-y /WP brute. As opposed to doing 500+ damage with that sword. All melee powersets have a required ranged power on Standard.
Yet he was worth his full XP. (or at least a lot of XP and inf)
Just saying that removing all rewards from citters whenever you remove a power is pointless while you can build something like that and get full XP for it.
Plus I am sure you can always put together a full-rewards group of canon critters that are the perfect match for your build (vulnerable to your damage type while you are highly resistant to their attacks) to plough through even if you dont fly. -
I dont think AE is bad at all either.
I am just annoyed that such a great feature is so effectively crippled.
Of course people will want to use custom critters in their arcs, and I do believe a lot of people want to face well-done custom critters and non-standard mission twists. And I dont mind if custom critters give somewhat less XP, but its some giving zero because you removed a tier 2 passive power (and maybe added tier 8 that does the same but better), cutting XP down to 25% if you want a spawn to consist of e.g. only bosses because it is the elite of your enemy group while you can have pretty much all bosses with difficulty settings, penalizing you for having no bosses in another group though you can just turn them off solo anyway, and basically trying to prevent everything that doesnt work like your basic paper mission that breaks this wonderful feature imo.
Quote:If they did it on purpose. But it might have been accidentally, unknowingly, done before they gave no rewards, or for plot or balancing reasons inevitable. However, I think it's perfectly fine to knock a star off for using custom critters that give 0 rewards, if you care about rewards. Using them is a choice the author makes.
I consider viable enemies giving zero rewards a bug.
It is a collateral damage of what was hopefully only meant as a temporary quick-fix for some farming issue. Less rewards is fine, but zero for something that puts up a fight is wrong. (Especially when you can e.g. build melee-only critters that DO give XP but cant fight back at a flyer.) One can claim writers should test all their arcs over and over, and that they should plaster them with warnings that a critter gives no rewards, but I generally believe one shouldnt give an author a bad rating because of a bug. -
Quote:Wouldnt that be like admitting that the game's official tools for teamfinding are a failure though?Has anyone suggested a Global Channel 'TIP' for the loading screen yet? I thought that's what the Tip screens were for (and bad puns, naturally) ?
Quote:What server do you play on? I'm a member of four different global channels on Virtue all of which are open to the public. Between them I usually don't lack for teaming opportunities. If these are "gated communities" then where is the gate?
And yes, I bet you can still have fun that way at the right server at the right time. But the point was there being a difference in having, e.g., those channels added and not knowing of those things. -
Perhaps they also wanted the radio missions to be an option to get some missions WITHOUT Malta in that level range?

Quote:Perhaps Scrapyard and Winter Lord are in the same union? In my experience, and to the best of my knowledge, Scrapyard is NOT spawned by defeats, but is on a timer (as mentioned earlier).
To the OP: keep in mind that during the current Winter Event, it appears that if the Winter Lord has spawned in a zone, GM events such as Scrapyard seem to be "on hold" until he's defeated. Some people from various servers have reported that a Sharkhead version of the WL may sit unmolested in the zone for a day or two, and during that time it doesn't seem that Scrapyard spawned.
I'm thinking you'll start seeing him back to his "up almost as much as Lusca" frequency come the end of the Winter Event.
Quote:It's harder to find a time that Scrapyard's *not* up, I think.
In general I think GMs would be taken more serious if they werent that often on. And of course its harder to find a team of people that go out of their way to defeat it when the GM being on is nothing special. -
Totally agreed. While the male and female versions look like a totally different species / why they dont let you chose the head of the opposite sex or an only SLIGHTLY modded version of it there where no gender is determinable anyway is beyond me.
(But then again they didnt add any beast parts depite constant pleads during the last... 4 years or so?) -
Quote:That is another gated thing I am afraid. The last time I checked, the help channel was still not one of the channel buttons in the chat window, where you'd expect a help channel to be.The global channel "Help" comes as part of the default game set up when you first start. I have left it active in all my chat windows, as I like to be able to help people... but on Union I have seen one use of it in the last let's say a year. I really don't think we are getting that many genuine newbies any more.
I thus assumed it has to be joined, and tried joining the channel "Help". Got a message the channel is full and cannot be joined thus. Though that is stupid and gave up.
Only very recently I accidentally learned that you have to use /hc to talk on it, and that even that was new to most because it used to be /h but changed somehow.
Of all channels, the help channel should be easiest to talk on imo, not need a / command. -
If they made Supergroups and two or three instances of each PvP zone cross-server that'd make sever merges obsolete and work much better imo.
-
Lots.
But the real catch with that shiny booster you advertise is loss of all characters, SG, friends, vet rewards, all booster packs you already bought and all prepaid months when you switch from EU to US that way.
Which is why some of us still hope for a merge of the server lists so people with both versions of the game can play on US and EU servers as they please. -
Quote:I dont think this is about "I have a problem teaming" but about new players that can easily get a bad impression and have not as much fun and think that is perfectly normal.Join your server channels (it's generally as easy as searching for your server name). Voila! You are now a part of an instant social network. Start talking and interacting with the folks who have set themselves up in there, and you'll even be accepted into it. Hell, after a time, you might be one of those folks who've set themselves up in there. And you'll be the one accepting newbies into it.
I think this is very true:
Quote:I agree that having a social network makes a big difference, in this game, in other games, and in many aspects of life. I also think that the barriers preventing people from getting "inside" the social network are like one-way glass. From the outside, you can't see a way to get in. From the inside, you can't see that there is a barrier.
I know I was like that when I joined back then. I assumed broadcast was cross-zone for a long time, didnt know of the hide feature, and assumed that those who look for a team can be found via the team finder thing. Why would I think people use hidden channels for that when there is a tool for it and an official channel?
And I dont think people should have to read more than an introduction post on a forum, nor a wiki to be able to find a team. (Besides, my launcher window is all black because that thing uses IE and my firewall blocks that.)
-
Hm.
I find a lot of things work 'better' in combination with one powerset / pool / power / IO set than another.
I dont think that everything can or has to be balanced on that level of detail. -
I can see the frustration and agree that there shouldnt be too high difficulty bumps in story arcs, and maybe there are even some issues with some team combos having it much easier than other that could be addressed, but I'd be strictly against making the Freedom Phalanx any easier. There's already enough supposedly difficult content that can be watered down so much that the only achievement in managing it seems to be the time invested to fight through it.
And those is the Freedom Phalanx, the best of the best in their whole, after all.
That shouldnt be something the bragging rights for should be given out easily, and the final mission is not needed for any accolades if I recall correctly.
I only did it once, with what seemed to be an experienced team mostly, and even when the pulls worked it still was tough and the times they didnt work... boy was that tough. So many faceplants and running and turning on a stealth to lose that hero on my tail and all out of inspirations ... (didnt have any cool IO sets or so back then though) but it was it being that hard that made it so great. And proud to have made it. Had we not made it, and I was already pondering giving up, I would have accepted that, because it is obviously very hard. Had it been easy, I would have been disappointed. It would have felt lame.
So I'd sign making more bosses on the way there harder so you have a clue how hard it'll be with this team earlier in the arc (and the titan doesnt count at all. It is ridiculous imo, especially for its size, like all titans or giant mechas or Behemoths. But maybe that's just on my scrappers and brute chars) and having it give higher rewards. Maybe giving a few merits even for making it to that last mission. But not making the bestest of heroes easier.
High chance to fail is what makes something a challenge. Without challenges, a game would be lame. -
Quote:Very true I find. It's my contention that the game is vastly different for people who belong to strong social networks and those who don't. This is probably obvious to a lot of long-term players. If you have membership in some of the key global chat channels, all of a sudden teaming opportunities, the opportunities to take part in task forces and raids (at almost all hours) or even to PL your alts to 22 (so you can slot SOs) become things you take for granted.
The game is vastly different for those who aren't socially active. If they are on a team oriented character, their sole source of fast xp could be pick up groups which vary in quality from good to very poor. Supergroups can help, but I find that many SGs (not all of them, but many of them) are former shells of what they once were. Long time players have many characters, and many SGs are often just warehouses for alts.
As the game has matured, I've noticed that many veterans have carved away a social niche for themselves, surrounding themselves with people with similar experience and in-game motivations. This isn't a bad thing, but these niches are often hard to crack. Public chat channels still exist and some do thrive, but I've seen more than a fair share of them become inactive or, worse yet, degrade to a level that they are only slightly better than broadcast and completely worthless as a teaming mechanism.
I have no real agenda in bringing up this topic, but I can't help but feel that this phenomenon is somewhat related to the declaration by many players that some servers are virtually empty. Certainly player populations on the smaller servers can shrink down to a handful of players in off peak hours, but I wonder if it's because those players are teaming with friends on other servers, finding teaming opportunities through their social network.
Also, I think CoH/V could be a somewhat unwelcoming game for a new player. The player base is mature and somewhat insular (which is somewhat expected for a mature game). I think it's somewhat difficult for a new player who might only have a handful of characters in their teens to match up with a group that have multiple 50s. I know there are players who go out of their way to help a new player, but eventually, even they want to play the characters they enjoy and not get stuck "baby-sitting" all the time.
Is this a problem? Probably not. It's anyone's guess on how widespread this is. And this post is based on only one player's observation, so it just comes down to my opinion. I have absolutely zero scientific fact or data that can back up my observations. However, I am a little concerned about how truly welcoming this game is for new players. Admission into one of these "gated communities" can often open up a world of opportunity for a new player, while a player without membership could see a mostly empty landscape.
There is a lot of stuff that you should know about the game that the game itself doesnt tell you about and features and tricks that can make it hard for newcomers.
Starting with the server choice. We all know which servers are full, which are quiet, which have PvP, and so on. If you are on the wrong server, it can be very frustrating. Players may have friends and alts and Supergroups on that server by the time they find out they are on the wrong one for their likings.
Teaming is another big issue. The game makes you think it is done by the team finder tool, which makes you think very few people are on and hardly anybody is up for a team. While in reality many are hidden from that list (very stupid feature for community aspect imo!), and everyone is on playermade channels that you have to know of instead of using the official team menu.
(The game should have a cross-zone Looking For Team channel that is on by default imo. Only showing talk from your faction and coop zones and not showing in the tutorial zone to not spam when you read.)
Fast leveling and sewer teams / AE that get you to high levels very fast are also a great way for seasoned players to not have to repeat one of the only 10 different hero starting character arcs again (sarcasm), and a way more efficient way to get past the low levels than having to run 5 minutes for every minute of XP-gaining, but its probably not such a cool first time experience for newcomers and makes finding a 'normal' team at early levels hard too. -
Quote:No, I wouldnt like that. Because if all PvP-ers went there it would separate the playerbase clearly into PvP-ers and non-PvP-ers, where you have to decide by picking a server. Please subscribe/sign to this thread If you would like to see this happen. I'm new to the forums and dont know if a thread like this has already started (please attach link if so).
If the Devs cant make this happen why not just rename a current server with low population "Player Vs Player" and we can utilize the free server transfer. It really is a good idea and would keep us complaining pvpers subdue for a least a $14.99 or whatever I pay a month for this game.
Which is admittedly close to the current situation, but not how it was intended, or should be, imo. Your idea would set it in stone instead of helping to support casual-PvP-ers or encouraging PvE-ers to try PvP.
(Also, I think that making petitions is not something the forum rules approve.) -
Yes, they should finally merge the server lists and stick flags behind the server for where its located.
They also will have to come up with an fix for the PvP zone activity, either making two (or more if it picks up) cross-server instances of each PvP zone (more than one so you can avoid someone that you really dont want to face in PvP, and one could e.g. have a player maximum for each side so you can choose between massive mayhem and not so crowded), or allowing to enter the PvP zones of different servers.
Right now they might just as well close the PvP zones on most of the servers. Its only frustrating for those who want to try PvP but never find anybody and ridiculous that you can get rewards from these supposedly dangerous zones when there is no PvP in them.
imo.
But its not like that hadnt all be suggested before. Could make all SuperGroups cross-server too, that would at least make it less a pain to switch servers for more activity.
