  1. I'm a long time PVE player and a friend of mine is trying to convince me to start doing PVP with an Arena Team starting up soon. He suggested I do some sort of ranged toon. My favorite toon right now is my Water Kin Corr that I've T4ed most destinys etc, so I tried to make a PVP build for him. My main focus was accuracy and to hit what with barrier and def being crazy in PVP and kin relying on to hit. I would appreciate any advice, even if it's a suggestion for a completely different toon to build as much as I would rather not.

  2. I got my staff elec armor brute to +3 recently and I love him, very fun. With one hit of Guarded Spin I softcap lethal\melee to 47% and have decent defense to everything really. My first destiny was Clarion T3 just because I was on an UG that needed it when I got my first Destiny, but he can really use anything and be good, with power sink he doesn't need ageless, rebirth isn't really needed, and barrier either, so whatever you get is based more on playstyle or helping teammates than your own needs. I personally see no point in taking the T9 on elec just because you're already so well protected without it, but to each their own. My build I am currently using is below; all the acc I put in is because staff has no buildup or anything similar, I rarely miss anything and typically stay on the dmg staff form as with agility I don't need more rech and I don't really have end issues.

    I like a lot of your changes but when i23 comes out I'd like to be able to take him on trials to get hybrid to T4 too without changing builds so I used the 2 LoTG slots to bring my KB protection back to 12 since it only costs me ~1% fire def on farms (I also have T3 cardiac to keep end usage reasonable as even with ageless it can get to be a bit much if facing any kind of end draining enemies depending on what's on the trial). I'm tempted to do a second trial build but I wouldn't want to invest lots of purples etc in a rarely used build and would miss all the advantages they currently give me. With this in mind I'd appreciate your and anyone else's feedback on the new build? Just finished T4ing everything tonight so I'll be respecing him soon. Also, if anyone can find a better use for the slots in havoc punch I'd appreciate it, it's just hard to find anything that beats the 15% acc and 10% rech they give even if its a power I won't use much.

    ps. Keeping in mind my thought about trialing I tried a second build with RoTP, it basically sacrafices 10% fire resistance, does anyone have any experience on how this would affect farming (thinking how I've seen fire scrappers farm and they are limited to 75%...)?

    pss. I put it in the builds, but I am using T4 Core Ageless, T4 Core Agility, T4 Radial Phantoms (for the AB, nice for a bit on farms), T4 Radial Void (-dmg is nice), and T4 Radial Degenerative (dmg proc +-hp, use reactive on my ss\fa but im trying out the -res from glad fury in burn for this guy).

  4. Hey,

  5. I've considered dm\fire for farming as well and I'm happy to share what I came up with; note, this build is based on my experience with my ss\FA brute farmer I've used for a long time (but I have 2 accts so eventually need another farmer and something different would be nice). Keep in mind you should probably have a build geared towards doing trials before doing the following one as incarnate powers are what make truely badass farmers possible, but without them they tend to be weak... with this build I would get everything to T4 before seriously farming and I would use the phantoms buffers for the AB buff (nice on longer maps like cave farms), ageless for the end, void for the -dmg part of the 'nuke', and degenerative for the -hp and toxic dmg proc in interface; without these incarnate powers the following build would really suck. As someone pointed out fire defense is important, but now that ambush farms have been gimped the Fire Cave Farm is king and I've found about 30% is plenty (without veng), with the heal up every 10 sec I still rarely need to use it, so I stock up on reds, not purps, once you are close to 30% fire defense acc\to hit (for non-ss brutes) and rech are most important.   8. Softcap to S\L is nice, but you need taunt and perma hasten man!
  9. Hey all,

    I was just playing around with the idea of an ill\time build and wanted your opinion. I managed to perma PA etc, softcap to ranged, have a decent attack chain, and even fit in a rez. Just wanted the opinion of those that may have play this or a similar combo lately; I did skip some powers as you'll see and I'm curious to see reactions to what I skipped, especially from local man .

  13. I did 2 reworks of your build, one with minor changes to yours, and one where I started from scratch. The first one (minor changes) adds a little more acc\rech without changing much else, the rework (2nd one) had a bit more rech and a lot more acc, but at the cost of end, I've added the accolades (except invader) on both builds for comparison.

    With 3 +end procs, if its anything like my shield, you should never have end issues.
  15. Just my 2 cents on the new incarnate salvage. I honestly think they main reason there are several different components at each tier, particularly common and uncommon, is because its become an expected practice. Even with base items which came out before IOs you needed different salvage for different things. If you consider base salvage, IO salvage, alpha components and the new thread components the only odd group is alpha components because its the only one with a single rare and very rare salvage (at least I believe so, I am not quite so familiar with base salvage anymore).

    Honestly, the variety of components doesn't bother me at all, but that's probably because I'm one of those people that likes to read guides from beta and participate in it when I can before its ever released live, so I have a good idea what to expect. People that prefer to play new systems on the fly though probably found this new system to be a minor nightmare; however, I can only imagine these same people had similar problems with the alpha slot and IOs when they were first released and they either adapted and learned or didn't use the system. The system certainly isn't perfect, but it is manageable after some use. If I could change one thing it would be the ability to convert the rare and very rare well components from alpha directly into one of the new rare or very rare thread components, but without the 100 million and 400 million inf cost you have when making them from scratch - afterall you can only get one well drop a week besides the new villian TF, and you can only get that well drop once.

    I did have fun in my one failure of each of the two new trials last night, other than the ridiculously fast deaths at the end of the BAF that made me feel like my uber-IO'd Ultra-rare alpha'd brute was made of tissue paper, and I learned a lot. I suspect things might have gone better for me in the BAF if I'd remembered to add League chat to my tabs. (I apologize to anybody who was on that team with me... the brute who was spazzing around the map like he couldn't hear anything being said actually COULDN'T hear anything that was being said!)

    I predicted to my wife over lunch today that Lambda will be fully PUG-friendly in under a week, but the BAF will take at least 2.

    I think this is good content. I just hope there is some mechanic to be used to deal with the set bonus problem that doesn't completely neuter defense-based primaries and secondaries.
    Having read up on the trials but not actually doing them in beta I did in fact fail and die on several the first night as I expected, even though I was on my well build fire dark corr with softcapped defense to smashing, lethal, and energy (I know that the trial enemies have a higher base accuracy so the softcap is actually raised to about 59%, but with team buffs I have been sitting on an average of 70% def on my 3 softcapped defenses during the trials); however, once I learned the basics of the trials they have become quite easy.

    I've now done several runs of each both that my friends and I have organized and lead and completely random PUGs from queuing up in the LFG tab, and as long as everyone listens these trials are so easy. I think what's really tripped up a lot of people and groups is that a lot of people's favorite toons are melee toons so sometimes there's not enough debuffs or heals; also, it is vital that melee players understand what sequestration is and how to deal with it; if you get those 3 rings you not only get yourself held and dead, but those caught in the ring around you too; you just need to make sure to back off if you ever get to 2 rings and you're golden.

    For lamda the biggest learning curve is the 'getting the temps' phase and what to do with them - basically just follow your team leaders lead and work together to smash the boxes and its easy, just don't try to clear the whole map or you may run out of time; you only want to fight long enough to destroy the box or container then move on. As for using them; if you get acid, once the av spawns you need to use it to take out those portals; the grenades make the av vulnerable for a limited time and should be used one at a time.

    Finally, I found what confused me at first was that when you get the temps, if you get more than one, for some reason only the first one popped into my tray and I had to find the second one in my powers and drag it to the tray. Even if teams don't get enough acid or grenades from the sabotage phase they are constantly spawning for you to get more in the courtyard. The only truely critical part is using acid to take those portals out ASAP as they spawn reinforcements regularly, so if you don't get most of them down fast its easy for everyone to get overwhelmed. Heh, guess I ranted a bit, but its really not all that bad after you've learned the basics and those on your trial know them too.

    After 2 nights of play and winning the trials about 2\3rds of the time, mostly due to the first nights failures, I now have a common in judgement and interface and a T3 Rare Lore with Destiny half way to unlocking - it really is possible to get the cool stuff easily and quickly (also, I did use threads and inf to help unlock the slots, so that did speed it up for me too).

    Soloing the STF!

    Hey, I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I got an illusion cold up from double xp weekend and have been amazed by how much more I love him than my Illusion Rad. Having played enough to get the 45% recharge rare alpha I too have perma PA now, its actually not all that hard with that much extra recharge now. My current build is a team build and takes the shields and frostwork for that reason, but you've inspired me to start working on a solo build for things like the STF now and I wanted to share my 'rough draft' for it; I skipped many teaming powers because its a solo build. This build is very much like my own in that I took the Ice epic, so I'm already pretty familiar with its pros and cons, but being a soloist with no self heal I concentrated more on defence than usual too. With this build even some AVs will have a decent chance of missing you the little bit when you're resummoning PA, though I doubt its enough to make a huge difference for Lord Recluse's Bane ambush. Take a look at the build in Mids, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the utility you still have to gain that defence. Also, hibernate is a great heal\end recovery\oh sh*t power after a little experience with it, especially when you have PA still fighting for you, but do keep in mind that the no phase aspect of the power prevents you from using it more than once every 2 minutes no matter how fast the recharge is.

  24. Hey all, I got an illusion emp up to 50 and a rare alpha for tfing, but I want to finish tweaking a final build for her and wanted a few people familiar with it to give their opinion perhaps? I've just included the data link, but something to keep in mind is that I would like to use her on master runs of most of the tfs you can master, so I wanted some defence too, hence the ice armor. I would love to fit in leadership, but it seems to me that doing so would take away so much from illusion that I may as well have made a defender and taken stealth?
