Quote:Yeah, I have to admit this is what made me do a double take when I read it. I was around when Howard Cossell used the term monkey when doing play-by-play for MNF, and I guess that stuck with me....It does seem a pretty stupid thing to do though.
Simply labelling it "Under Grodd's control" would have removed all controversy.
Regarding Flashpoint, make sure to get the newest Boster Gold - it takes place in this brave, new world and has a great ending! -
This is a cool way to generate some more buzz around Flashpoint. While I love what they did with Alaska and Europe, I am scratching my head over how Africa is labeled....
-
Well, this would be a bold move....
Quote:Personally, I can not stand that Marvel does this. Not too excited to see DC go down this path.Originally Posted by Bleeding CoolDC recently stated that Flashpoint #5 would be the only comic they would be shipping on August 31st from the entire company. So whats to follow it on September the 6th?
Ten years after the world changed, looks like the DC world will be changing too. Bleeding Cool has already talked about a major renumbering of DCs books post-Flashpoint. And it looks like that will occur the first week of September, across the DCU board, with everything going back to #1.
And the DC solicitations for August do seem to back that up. Theres a lot of finality going aroundBrightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing (3 of 3)
With Green Lantern books on epilogue, Teen Titans getting two issues out to hit and #100 in August and even more things will never be the same again solicitations than usual as well, everything is lining up for a big big change in September.
The search ends here as John Constantine finally finds out Swamp Things dark motives
Action Comics #904
Now it all comes down to a weakened Superman versus the monster known as Doomslayer in this, the epic finale of Reign of the Doomsdays!
Detective Comics #881
This is it the finale so twisted, so shocking we cant even begin to give away details here! Be there for the extra-sized conclusion of the acclaimed run by Scott Snyder, Jock and Francesco Francavilla.
Batman Gates Of Gotham #5 (pushing through two issues in August)
And in issue #5, its Batman vs. The Architect! The downfall of a major Gotham family! The betrayal of Damian Wayne! Its all here in this final issue, plus the untold fate of Gotham Citys first Super Villain!
Superman #714
Superman hits Seattle for his last stop on his Grounded walk across the country, and it is in that city where everything will come to a head!
Superman/Batman #87
Its the brutal final chapter of The Secret!
Add that the Green Lantern books are in epilogue mode, the Wonder Woman finale has been pushed to August,
Gotham City Sirens #28
A secret that goes back to the very first issue of GOTHAM CITY SIRENS will be revealed at last!
Birds Of Prey #15
In the concluding chapter of War and Remembrance, Lady Blackhawk and the original Phantom Lady are in the clutches of an enemy whose evil has lain dormant for decades!
Superboy #11 (pushing through two issues in August)
Then in #11 Jeff Lemire and Pier Gallo bring the saga of The Hollow Men to its explosive conclusion!
Supergirl #67
But before she can leave, first she has to save the kids of the Silk Pajama Society, stop the bad guy from unleashing his devastating plan upon the world, and attend one last orientation session!
Wonder Woman #614
The all-new Wonder Woman reaches the end of her epic Odyssey and comes face-to-face with the malevolent force behind it all!
Adventure Comics #529
The final, fatal battle for the Legion Academy freshman class. Is this the end of the Academy at Cosmic Kings hand?
Legion Of Superheroes #16
The finale to the battle with the Legion of Super-Villains!
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #10
The T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents make a final stand against The Iron Maiden in the present, as a bitter truth about the villainess and Colleen is revealed in a look back at the past. One of the most critically acclaimed books of the year reaches the shocking finale of its latest chapter
So why is everything going back to #1? And what does the end of Flashpoint mean for the rest of the titles?
But remember, The Dark is coming
Also, I wonder if this is a way for DC to change Superman and his 'official' history enough to help them win the ongoing lawsuit over his character rights. -
Quote:Breakdown for those only reading these forums:
Eternal Flame (top, left) – Mystical flame that cannot be extinguished. It was stolen from Surtur by Odin, Vili, and Ve Borson at the dawn of time so that Surtur could not light his sword and bring about Ragnarok.
Infinity Gauntlet (right) – The Infinity Gauntlet was designed to hold six of the ‘soul gems’, better known as the Infinity Gems. When used in combination their already impressive powers made the wearer nearly invincible.
Warlock’s Eye (bottom, center) – A powerful, mystical weapon used unsuccessfully against Odin, Thor and the Warriors Three during an invasion of Asgard.
Twilight Sword (not pictured) – Created by Surtur using the energy of the exploding home galaxy of the Korbinites, it was intended to set the universe afire. Later used as a power source by Loki & Morgan Le Fay.
Rumored:
Orb of Agamotto (top, left center) – A scrying crystal ball used by Doctor Strange for clairvoyance. It has been known to open gateways between dimensions
Tablet of Life & Time (top, right center) – On the tablet was a biochemical formula for a serum, the so-called Lifeline Formula, which could rejuvinate, heal and grant its user the chance to reach the full evolutionary potential of its race turning the user into an immortal near omnipotent being. -
Go Chuck!
I wonder how much product placement in the show helped in getting it renewed...based on the ratings this season I would guess quite a bit! -
Love this thread - the Iron Man II poster would look great on my wall (if it was still for sale)....

Stumbled across this cool website in the John Byrne forums. Click here to see comic covers from the month and year you were born!
These are listed by cover date on the comic, which is usually a few months ahead of the actual sale date. Ex. Amazing Spider-Man #81 has a cover date of Feb 1970 BUT was actually on sale in Novmeber 1969.
Going through the cover dates for my birthday, I can't believe Amazing Spider-Man was only in the low 80s when I was born. -
No thanks - I have no interest in creating a new character to get a badge a few months early. For what it is worth, please do not tie badges to servers ever again. Find a better carrot....

Wow!
Full article from Bleeding Cool
Quote:Originally Posted by HighlightsThe iconic splash page of Batman and Robin from The Dark Knight Returns #3 , penciled by Frank Miller and inked by Klaus Janson, sold at Heritage Auctions just moments ago for a record $448,125.
Thats the largest amount ever paid at public auction for any piece of original artwork from an American comic book. The sale surpassed the expectations of virtually all experienced observers by a huge margin.
The public record for an American comic book cover was set last year with the $380,000 sale of the cover of EC title Weird Fantasy #29 by Frank Frazetta.
The previous record for a piece of interior American comic art was also set last year by the pivotal splash page from Amazing Spider-Man #50, the famous Spider-Man No More! story, written by Stan Lee and drawn by John Romita Sr, which sold for $88,500 as reported by Bleeding Cool last year.
Giving that some additional perspective, it of course blows away previous amounts paid for any post-1980 American comic art. Bleeding Cool reported that Watchmen #1 page 1 artwork by Dave Gibbons went for $33,460 this past November, and we also reported the sale of Frank Millers cover to Daredevil #188 for $101,575 last year. -
Funny quote I found on Walt Simonson's FB page:
Whoever lifts this book, if he be worthy....
-
This show continues to deliver. The opening sequence with the 'special targets' made my jaw drop....
-
Access to the website and forums has gotten steadily worse over the past week foe me. This is the only website that I have any issues with, so I do not believe the problem is on my end.
-
The books are nice, but nowhere near Omni nice. My main problem is that you need to buy a ton of them to get the complete run that you want. I 'think' they cover 8 issues a book.
That said, you might check your local comic shop and see if they have any on sale. I know that NEC around Boston have a ton of them at 50% off. Including the Simonson FF run....
EDIT: The Omni books are often recolored - I doubt the Visionary books are.... -
My direct market version just arrived from Tales of Wonder (well packed). Awesome collection, just a little bit smaller than the Amazing Spider-Man omnibus (due to thinner paper in Thor).
So very, very glad that Marvel put this together. Now I can only hope that they put together John Byrne's Fantastic Four run (in 2 books). -
Quote:To go with Marvel references, I would say that Byrne's later FF run (#232 - up), Stern's Amazing Spider-Man run (#229 - up) and Simonson's later Thor run (#337 - up) are the start of the Bronze/Modern age for me.The categorization (Bronze, Modern, etc) of the timespan of everything after the Silver Age is always up for debate, as is the end of it. I tend to consider everything from Barry Allen's appearance to his death (Crisis on Infinite Earths) "Silver Age."
I agree that it is on the border...however the storytelling by these writers is a lot different from what I consider Silver Age comics. -
With the Simonson Thor omnibus officially out (and discussed in another thread), this article details the highlights of that epic storyline.
For Midgard! -
Sorry to see this change, but I understand why it had to happen. Tough week for you guys!

Can only villains get the TIP mission to unlock the new SF?
I am have not been successful in getting this tip to drop on my vigalante over the past few days. Curious to know if I just have bad luck OR if there are restrictions around getting the tip. -

Not sure, but it is what worked for me. Good luck!
