Replace with any two games of your choice.

And of course Cryptic games have it, well at least CO does.. Does STO?
STO has a level-matching system for what little group-oriented content it does have. You return to your base level if you don't stick fairly close to your group leader, though - which tends to end as one would expect, given that the majority of group content is vs the Borg.
  4. PVP-exclusive leveling game.

Not worth the hard drive it was programmed on.
  5. Very few AT/powerset combo's don't have some sort of issues with CoT, whether it's those damn ghosts or the mez-spamming spellcasters.

Will we give it our best shot? The correct answer is YES!
This denial thing is getting really old.

Yes, occasionally the odds get defied. However, those cases are a severe minority.

Also, this is no longer about "odds" per se. Frankly, it never was. NCSoft owns CoX, and all final decisions about it are theirs. Said final decision was made back in August. Everything that's happened since then is pure theatre.

But I did want to say if anyone is thinking about playing AION or returning to it, it's gotten a LOT better than when it launched 3 years ago.

It's still a full world PvPvE game but for those that left due to ganking and issues with not completing quests due to PVP, they added a built in "multiserver" channel that removes all PVP from levels 1-50. It's called the Fast Track server and can be accessed from your main server. You can temporarily move your character to this server and level up with other players from the other servers. Kind of neat.

This Fast Track Server is also a permanent double XP server. So leveling to 50 is a breeze. Even casually, I leveled a new alt to 50 within 2 weeks. Of course, there is a lot more content now but nothing is level restricted. So you can still complete old missions or stuff that you "outleveled."

AION is currently in patch 3.1, but come October 10, patch 3.5 will be released.

They have added a ton of QA fixes and even more planned in 3.5 and 4.0. Also, you don't have to wait all that long for patches to roll out (at least on the North American servers as the European servers are run by a different company and takes them longer with localization). North America is now within 1 month of a release from Korea.

The biggest selling point, for me, is that it's Truly Free like Lineage. No subscriptions whatsoever. There is no gated subscription only content. Everything in game is available to everyone for free. The only pay-for items are the cash shop which have things like costumes, mounts, pets, etc. Nothing that really is needed.

Also, if anyone does try it out, look me up. I play as Blackbeard (Elyos side) on the Tiamat server as well as Blackbeard (Asmo) on the Israphel server.

Plus, Beastyle works there now, so there is someone that feels all of our plight as he's a longtime CoH'er.

Not touching anything that has non-consensual PVP, regardless of publisher.

Stuff happening to WoW makes the news because WoW has a bigger subscriber base than any half-dozen of its competitors combined. Most MMOs, you have to hunt through search engine results to confirm they exist.
  9. No. NCSoft's track record is to bury IPs they're not using anymore, viable or otherwise.

  11. I'm going to be even more blunt than usual here ...

What *** did you pull those numbers out of? $500 dollars for a LTS is obscene, nevermind a full grand. You'd be hard-pressed to find a game that charges more than $300 for a LTS.

No game ever made, or that ever will be made, is worth $500 upfront to play.

Actually, the backstory for WC2, circa 1995, was the first mention of Pandaren IIRC. Nevermind Kung Fu Panda, Pandaren almost predate Pixar.

    bucket list

Speaking of quirky ways to get around, early in my superheroing career I discovered that superjumping onto a fance at just the right angle would cause you to "surf" along the top for a few yards before sliding off. I managed to repeat the stunt in a few different places, including the barbed-wire fence around the Zig.

That reminds me, I need a new pair of footwear for this winter.

It IS the right thing to do. But the rest of that news posting is obvious crap to the point that NCSoft defecating on our keyboards would be less blatant.
  15. Many of mine will likely be adapted to other games, or freeform writing. It's much easier to retool an existing character for a new setting than it is to create one from scratch.
  16. CoX reworked and rebalanced into a single-player game would definitely find a place on my hard drive.

People complain about the "lack of content" for certain areas, but there's enough content overall to absolutely SWAMP a truly solo player. The replay value of being able to create hundreds of different potential characters would almost be superfluous.

The one issue is that it would require MASSIVE rebalancing to make it work. Every AT/powerset needs to be able to solo every encounter for CoX to be viable as a singleplayer game. That means everything from the tutorial to Tyrant has to be doable with whatever design you left the creation screen with. Paragon, and NCSoft in general, has an absolutely pathetic track record when it comes to solo viability.
  17. 15 dollars a month for a subscription is already around the top of what the MMO market will bear. Asking for more is asinine.
