  1. Based on the fact that I have more brutes on Pinnacle than all the other archetypes combined... it appears that I've come to agree that brutes > the other melee AT.

However, I solo most of the time. Were I a team oriented player, I'd have more tanks.

If I ever crank up a dark/shield character or even kinetic/shield again, it would be a scrapper because of the way damage buffs work.
  2. Howdy Tech Forumites,

    Long time no read.

Got a testing bug that bounced into my head and got me wondering how many CoH sessions my gaming rig could handle.

At first, without changing any of my graphics settings and using the -stopinactivedisplay 1 flag, I was able to run 6 instances without issue but when I fired up the 7th, it became quite unplayable.

So I set Particle Physics down to None from Very High and that seemed to be enough to allow a 7th smooth session.

However, as expected, I want MORE. Well, ok, just one more. Maybe two.

With 7 sessions, I was pegging 100% CPU utilization on my I7 Intel quadcore with HT proc and I was using right at 10 of my 12gigs of RAM.

So here's the question, what other graphics settings are being dumped to the processor rather than being handled by the video card? Are there any besides Particle Physics?

    Thanks much.
  3. Last weekend I moved my main from Pinnacle to Justice so that I could remake him as a brute. I couldn't accept using the inferior version of a claws/sr character any longer and that free server transfer kept staring at me when I'd log in.

The new BZB hit 37 today and I've started reclaiming the buff accolades. When he hits 50, I'll begin the process of stripping the old BZB of his enhancements as I don't have the funds to replace 5 purple sets and the rest of his high inf build.

The only downside so far has been that endurance management is more difficult due to the way claws was changed when it was ported to brutes. Other than that, the higher base HP, higher base damage output and the taunt aura on evasion have all been very nice.

It'll be worth it in the end.

Also remade my first brute at 50 from em/fa to dm/wp.
And deleted a lvl 50 peacebringer. (I should have expected PBs to get something good one day...)

We just need to continue hammering them on the ridiculousness of their belief until they relent.

Or I can continue wasting server space for dummy accounts.
  5. One keybind:
/bind *key* "powexectoggleon combat jumping$$powexectoggleon super jump"

That should bounce you between the two.

Here's what I use for the superjumpers.

    /bind j "powexectoggleon super jump$$+up$$+autorun"
This turns on SJ and sends you jumping forward on your way.

    /bind h "powexectoggleon combat jumping$$-up$$-autorun"
This turns on CJ and stops you dead in your tracks.

    Alternate animations instead please.

And while you're at it non-ballerina stuff for Dual Pistols.
I would hope that everyone would want alternate animations and not replacements. Add options is always a good thing. Taking something away that someone out there loves is always a bad move.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get back to soloing some +4/x8 Arachnos...
Perhaps you should try something difficult.

Edit: Meaning: +4/x8 arachnos doesn't mean much with three level shifts. I must admit, I'm curious how an aid self user would fair in pvp against someone with the reactive t4 slotted.
  8. ooo, the incredible "I know you are but what am I" defense. Well played.
  9. sweeet. I needed this.

This is why I only use Fury claws on BZB. While not what we want, it's the closest I can get.

You're over complicating it, you should just win all the time and then you'll have no need for a heal. The philosophy has been clearly laid out, it's just that simple.
Ahh, someone seriously has their panties in a wad.

Yes, when you have enough regen and dam-res to overcome the 5% of incoming hits, you don't need a heal. But to each their own. Some folks enjoy spamming their tricorder. Some folks like dying just to fire off their t9 rez. Other people like really low damage output while they soak up aggro and damage for a team. It's game, get over it.

Knowing how close BAB was to removing redraw completely from the game... and then to watch him disappear... sucked a lot.

    Only some of them do.

Neither claws nor dual blades nor titan weapons have higher than 1 base accuracy.

Weapons used to have the cast times baked into the animations so that redraw didn't affect DPS. Then BAB and Castle removed that baked in time so that redraw did have an effect on DPS but the upshot was that all the weapon sets benefited when redraw wasn't in the attack chain.

  16. I'd like to see every attack alternate hands where applicable.

Example: Dark Melee Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp are both left handed only attacks. Both should have right handed animations added so that either hand would be used during an attack chain.

Same goes for almost all attacks that are single handed in this game. I believe shadow punch, brawl and claws swipe are some of the few exceptions.

    How wonderfully smarmy!

It was really the combination of having the power around for emergencies *plus* the fact they made good set mules for the concept I wanted (high regen SR) that was the deciding factor, not just the "aid self for max survivability" argument. Alone, that wouldn't be enough for me.
The set mule argument makes much more sense to me. I'll be going physical perfection on the new brute build.

Also only used two powers instead of 3 for tough/weave. Something to ponder. Might as well be 100% unkillable instead of just 95%, right?

so long as you don't die more than once every hour or so.
Something like that. While a live scrapper does more damage than a dead scrapper, a live scrapper attacking while another live scrapper is using a tricorder is also dealing more damage.

It's a true statement. I follow a different philosophy. It's better to do everything you can do to increase mitigation and damage output so that your enemy is dead before you need a heal.

When that fails, use that nifty self-rez buff we got.

Rebuilding Bill Z as a brute has taken priority. Leveling is easy. Getting all of the accolades, purples, pvp ios and regular ios is going to be a chore from hell.

    More fisticuffs later.

Expected Arcanaville to slam me with that first.

In all honesty, I don't spam it much anymore. For some reason knockback has been annoying me a lot lately.

My main is (was) a claws/sr scrapper. I've been running the DA incarnate arcs solo at +4/x8 w/ bosses.

I took aid self once when PvP was added to the game. I removed it rather quickly.

Folks that think SR needs aid self don't know how to build SR characters.

EDIT: Yes, rebirth and 3 level shifts help. So run them at +0/x8 if you're a non-incarnate lvl 50.

It'd be nice if we could get access to all the power pools before being granted a 5th from which to choose.

Had to get home and verify:
PB: 25 Forgot I took dwarf for several levels and then accidentally toggled it on with an old keybind. Have used it as a break free but will respec out soon.
WS: 36 With the +recharge secondary mutation, I can have 3 fluffies out.

History: My original khels were Celmor and Melcor. Both hit 50 years ago with Celmor being one of the first khels to 50 on Pinnacle. (The non-powerleveled khels to 50 at least.) That really was a hellish nightmare back then. For me, the fact that toggles only suppress these days has made a huge difference in my enjoyment of several characters, khels being the most affected for me.

It's a different ride. I would have just revamped my existing lvl 50 warshade (the peacebringer was deleted in disgust a while back,) but my new one is my chaos mage and my in game avatar. (Meaning he looks like me and our names are similar.) I'd like to see where he goes.
