Dark/Shield, When abusing AAO+SD against enemies that are weak enough not to kill you but strong enough not to die from SD, has the highest possible DPS output.
But you said no uber builds.
There was no need to cross post. Many scrapper players also play brutes. There's a reason for this. The two ATs, when solo, are close enough in all things that they might as well be the same AT. It's only when outside buffs come in that brutes can pull ahead.
Fury vs crits is a wash.
Brutes get higher base HP.
Brutes have to work harder than scrappers to maintain higher damage output.
So is it a dm/sd brute? Nope. You're not going to have saturated AAO&SD all the time. You're not even going to have that most of the time.
Until softcapping, SD isn't all that great. You're forced to doublestack active defense and take a power that doesn't buff your own defense just to get close to the DDR that SR can push out.
So what's the best for soloing AVs? Considering that most of the time you're going to run out of AAO-SD fuel while fighting one, probably FM/SD brute. Unless softcapping and high recharge gets too expensive. If so, then FM/WP. -
Aye, this is my standard build. I changed the map to the burnt out Atlas Park map, and all AVs spawned at 50 when using the 40-54 range.
I did much better against BAB, got him down to half, but he popped dullpain a second time so I called the match. He took me out twice in the process.
Mynx was also a nogo. Once she hits with Followup, if I haven't gotten the heck out of dodge, it's game over. She also seems to hit more after she cranks on elude, which I found odd.
I know that things would be different for some of these were I to have aid self, but we all know that ain't happening.

Quote:Maps spawning higher level, huh? Yea, it was an indoor map. I'll look into that.Bill, some AVs, such as the RSF and STF ones, are level-locked. If you only used 45-54 AVs and they were still 51, it could have been because that part of the map spawned a level higher, if you didn't use an outdoor map.
I was attempting to only use 45-54 AVs. Sadly, some of the vindicators don't have that option. -
Quote:1 Hour. Solo. In PI doing paper missions and selling everything I get on the market.
You guys are talking about making 150 million in 150 hours as if it's nothing... So, say a "hardcore" player wants to "purple out" both builds (say, PvE and PvP) on a single toon. That's going to take him four to five years to earn that much playing 40 hours a week...
As others have stated, one shouldn't speak when they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. -

I have absolutely no idea what the first AV I soloed was.
However, I went a little nuts tonight. Hopped into the AE a created a single map longbow mission with four defeat boss goals. Kept cycling through AVs. No insps, no temps.
Not quite sure how I feel about the results so far. The stalemates and defeats outweigh the wins. All of the following were chosen as AVs. I'm unsure why some AVs only spawn as level 51 while others spawn at 50. Those in the defeated category were all lvl 50.
Defeated:
Gyrfalcon
Requiem
Hro'Dtohz
Ice Mistral
Nemesis
Crimson
Indigo
Stalemate:
Silver Mantis
The Dragon
Sunstorm
Sefu (Spawned as an EB even though when I picked him he's called an AV)
Got the smackdown from:
Back Alley Brawler
Statesman
Ms. Liberty
Psychic Babbage (Monster)
Clockwork King
Tyrant (He gets lucky way too much.)
Enough for today.
Or not. 3 more to add:
Defeated:
Mirror Spirit
Foreshadow

Completely off topic but I didn't want to start a new post for this statement:
I suck at taking on AVs. I'm 0 for 5 against even con AV BAB. Those 1800 point hits are too much for me to deal with.
Maybe BAB is a bad choice. SS/Inv gets nice tohit buffs.
Dreck was a pansy.
Schadenfreude..... damnit, CASTLE!!!! Autohit PBAoEs REALLY tick me off, man! -
Bug: Ms. Liberty Vindicator (1-54) Arch-villain 51-54
She can be damaged as an enemy. She can hit and target me without issue.
However, she is not targetable.
Bugged in game as well. -
To figure out DPS properly, I'd need to know what your normal repeatable attack chain is against a really hard target like an AV or a pylon. I never figure out area DPS. Too many variables for my tastes.
-
<snifflesob>
but I WANT a claws shield, damnit...
oh yea, your question.... max out the claws/inv and then PM me the build so I'll be ready when mine hits 50. -

Gonna have to pass on posting the other build as it is slightly better than what I have on live... ;-)
Completely understandable! -
So who was it that grabbed an RWZ challenge worthy spawn and dragged it to a pylon that he promptly took out while the spawn was wailing on him?
-
Those stats could solo +4 final Romulus even with the autohit fluffy. Gorram aidself!
My response:
1832 HP
358 regen 27.4 hp/sec
47.9 melee
42.8 range
42.5 aoe
Unless I turn on maneuvers. Then:
50.2 M
45.1 R
44.7 A
87.5 global recharge, barely enough to run FU/slash/focus/strike
25.5 global damage buff
16.9 S/L DR
Depending on what comes in with I-16, I may dump maneuvers and conserve power for something bettah!
Edit: Estimated DPS 218.478. Knocking off 5% for tohit floor leaves me at 207.55.
Oh... and that means I have to take out the ragnarok and armageddon sets to either sell or stick in the secondary build. -
stupid work....
On the plus side, the vast majority of my posting is done during the day.
I'm looking at another build that's pure AV killer. Max recharge. Max HP. Max Regen. I had planned to skip the aoes completely but I think I need spin/evisc as IO mules. -
That's my only problem with the build you posted, Iggy. Having the Gaussian CFBU in tactics means that it's only firing off once every 10 seconds which means on average it's only going to go off once every 200 seconds.
Having it in FU means it fires on average once every 105 seconds.
So.. twice as many times per run.
But then you have to figure whether you're losing any damage or recharge on FU while having it in FU.
gahhh, so much silliness.
At this point, I've figured out I'm going to have to bite the bullet and utilize both builds and fully purple them both out. One for AVs and pylons and the other for teaming and AoEs.
And THAT opens up a whole new can of insanity. -
8% = X-(X*.1752)
.08 + (X*.1752) = X
.08/x + .1752 = 1
.08 = .8248X
X = .097
Looks like you got hit with a 10% defense debuff which your DDR knocked down to 8.248 which was then rounded before showing you how much debuff got through. -

Quote:What is this teaming thing you speak of?
BillZ and Claws, on your SD/DMs how do you find aggro-management, especially with high-damage blasters in the mix?
Edit: In all seriousness, I don't know. I'll be taking taunt when/if I plan to actually do any real tanking. Since I'll be cranking recharge on the build for the max DPS chain, I seriously doubt aggro management will be a big deal between taunt, AAO, Soul Drain and Dark Consumption. Edit2: And shield charge. -
Damn. There's another billion inf down the hole.
-
My lvl 40 dm/wp brute doesn't have fighting. Yet. He did feel a bit weak last night on an ITF, but he was SKed up to 50 and the majority of his deaths were when his mentor was out of range.
Since I want gloom in his attack chain, I'll probably get darkest night as well. While I know that tough would make him even harder to kill, there does come a point where it's just overkill. Course... way past that point is usually where I like to hang out, so I might try to figure out how to get fitness/fighting/gloom-DN all into the build for gits and shiggles. -
Stats for an EA using only EA powers and SOs:
S/L Def: 25.74
F/C/E Def: 29.25
N Def: 16.38
S/L DR: 11.7
E/T DR: 14.625
When we do a straight compare with SR and its 30.42 to m/r/a and its passive scaling DR, EA initially looks like it comes up REALLY short.
But SR has no endurance buff/drain. SR has no self heal at all.
Adding tough/weave/cj fully slotted to EA and it now sits at:
S/L Def: 34.515
F/C/E Def: 38.025
N Def: 25.155
S/L DR: 29.25
E/T DR: 14.625
Sitting at 35% S/L Def backed by 30% S/L DR with stealth, end drain and a minor heal is not weak. Getting that extra 10% defense from IOs will not be difficult. The SR will obviously need even less, but on average, the PSDR in SR averages out to 20% to all but psi and toxic while the EA is sitting on 30% S/L all the time.
I know the argument is that a set shouldn't need pools. They don't. But in defense based sets (SR, EA, Ice) adding tough/weave greatly increases their survivability and it's almost dumb to go without them. Especially when you've got an end management tool to help pay for them.
So where is EA *really* hurting? Toxic for one. I don't know of any toxic attacks that lack a positional component. That means SR works against them. EA doesn't. While that 15% DR to toxic certainly helps, you're still getting tagged with all of them.
And then there's the psi hole. EA and SR share this although at least SOME of the psi attacks out there have a positional component, so SR is in somewhat better shape there, as well.
The question is whether EA's end management/drain, stealth and minor heal make up for those holes. I don't know the answer to that.
But weak in the overall? No, the set isn't that. It's better off that both Elec and FA on the mitigation front. -
Quote:That's why.
I know this thread will be read by less than average intelligent people and they will no doubt choose to insult me about this post, or nag about it. -
Double stacked rage means 10 seconds of hitting like a little girl every minute instead of every 2 minutes. Somewhat alleviated by the use of sands/wand during the crash. Still annoys me.
-
I finally settled on SD/DM for my tank. While SS is a great set, I despise the rage crash. And at the high end, when fully abusing AAO+SoulDrain, SD/DM is tops for damage output.
