DPS Calculation?

Not really sure how you guys are calculating the DPS, but I'm guessing you take the damage the attacks deal and then divide it by how much time your chain takes to complete? When I did this for my build I got something crazy like 236, but I don't think that's right.... eh, at all, because Bill was talking about getting his over 200 on a post I saw, and I'm pretty sure I'm a bit lacking in the DPS department.

Would someone be kind enough to figger out my DPS for me? I wanna see how I can improve it.

To figure out DPS properly, I'd need to know what your normal repeatable attack chain is against a really hard target like an AV or a pylon. I never figure out area DPS. Too many variables for my tastes.

Be well, people of CoH.

Ok I will take a shot at this, I going to guess you run the attack chain of FU/slash/Focus/Strike

You need to Adjusted your Cast Time to ACT or Adjusted cast time so

AdjustedCastTime = (ROUNDUP( Casttime / 0.132)+1) * 0.132

I'll show you Focus
Focus has a cast time of 1.17

AdjustedCastTime = (ROUNDUP( 1.17/ 0.132)+1) * 0.132
AdjustedCastTime = (ROUNDUP( 8.86363...)+1) * 0.132
AdjustedCastTime = (9+1) * 0.132
AdjustedCastTime = 10* 0.132
AdjustedCastTime =1.32

So Focus ACT=1.32
Strike ACT=1.32
Slash ACT=1.584
FU ACT=1.056
Total ACT=5.28
So now with you attack chain taking a total time of 5.28 that mean all but FU will have double stacked and FU will only have 1.

So the Damage form your build
Strike=223.3
Slash=256.9
FU=134.1
Focus=269.2(Procs will be add in later)
Total=883.5

Now to add the procs now I don't know if this is the right way but this is how I do it

14.4*.2=2.88
35.3*.33=11.64

Total with Proc=898.02

898.02/5.28=170.1DPS

Now this is not adding crits and assuming 100% acc. This is just a quick way that is not to far off. Now I also don't know how to add the Achilles' heel proc.

Yeah, That's the attack chain I'm using. Any tips on how I could bring the number up a bit?

Actually, since it's only 5.28 seconds long, everything will be FU double stacked. The second stack of +dam drops off .56 secs into the activation of Follow Up, but thanks to the fact that if the +dam is present at the activation of the power, it will affect the power for its entire duration, it still gets the full benefit of it.

As to AH contribution numbers, there is one attempt per attack string, the effect lasts 10 seconds which allows each application to apply for the entirety of 2 attack strings. 2 applications per 10 seconds equates to 7.2% -res thanks to the simple AH contribution formula (((1-.8^((attackStringTime/10)*(#OfAHProcsPerAttackString)))*.2) which is actually accurate because the duration of the proc and the length of the attack string are in sync.

All of this would net you 1022.58 damage (from 953.9 damage with 7.2% -res) in 5.28 seconds for 193.67 DPS.

Now, if you really wanted to push the envelope, you could get some more recharge by doing something like this (see build below) and using the FU>Focus>Slash>Wait(.396 secs) attack string. It'll net you 886.12 damage in 4.356 seconds for 203.425 DPS and, if you get more recharge through teaming or some other method, it can go up even higher.

Edit: I just realized that the build you're using is disturbingly similar to the Claws/SR build that I made and have saved. The one that I have saved (thanks to a bit of tampering after last posting it) actually manages slightly better DPS.

Didn't you get the memo? Nobody makes their own builds any more. We just use yours. Besides, if anyone comes up with a good build on their own, you surely already have one just like it on your hard drive.

Well, it was more the fact that it had some identical idiosyncrasies in the slotting that I was thinking about cleaning up. The big one that gave it away specifically, was the CJ slotting that, for purely aesthetic reasons, I was having to resist the urge to switch the slotting around so that all of the IOs are next to the others in their sets in order. When I switched over to look at the one I had saved, I actually noticed that very little was actually changed (minor slotting differences and the exact same powers at the exact same levels) across the two builds, which brought on the question.

Umbral, to be quite honest, I took your slotting of CJ/SJ and the SR slots as law on my build I have saved. When I saw that and then the Obliteration set, I saw where I was going wrong with my slotting attempts (I had never actually seen the set bonuses for the BotZ set before). I do have another one planned out that is much more different, but as far as the one I am in the process of building, but my Mid's-fu is nowhere near the same level, so I copied your build over to see what I could do, and... well, I couldn't do much. Sorry if I made you angry with it. Needless to say I am a wee bit embarassed.

Aside from that, thanks for the DPS help. I'm helpless when it comes to maximizing my builds and doing stuff like calculations.

This is SO true. I *will* be using the FM/SR build he threw together for me once I can afford the PVP +Def IO. Until then, I am using a much less end-friendly build with Tactics/Manuvers. Umbral builds ftw. heh.

I'm not angry. I was just kinda curious if it was my build or simply one of those strange coincidences. The fact that you owned up to it (I firmly believe in giving credit where credit is due) means that it's water under the bridge.
