So I can pay $30, NOT get the item pack and get dual pistols and demon summoning early. If I want the item pack in July, we're be expected the normal 5-10 bucks.
Or I can pay $25($40-15 for the month of time I won't be paying,) get an updated dvd for future reloads AND get the item pack, but have to wait several months before playing DP and DS on live.
Oooook. -
Quote:I understand what you're stating, and I've also heard that the lag in that particular case is a server side issue.I'd be fascinated to see any lag change at all due to ultra mode. My understanding is that UM is purely a client side rendering issue. Certainly framerate will change with UM, but I don't see why server lag would. The server doesn't care about the number of polygons your video card is rendering, or what resolution you're running at.
The server may not care what my system is rendering, but the fact stands that some rigs suffer less lag than others during the same ITF. That implies that there's something going on there other than *just* the server getting hammered for your particular instance of the zone. And I've never fully bought that argument anyway. 1 section of 1 zone gets hammered but every other zone instance being managed by that server is unaffected? C'mon.
If I'm getting minimal lag while another player on the team flat out DCs when someone fires off a tier9 nova, then something beyond *just* server lag is happening.
This is why I'm in a wait and see mode. We don't know if the devs learned how to streamline some of the more ridiculous performance-degrading zone design decisions with the code changes involved with changing the game to allow for ultra mode. RV, Gville, CaD and Mercy these days are all poorly designed in relation to end client performance.
I'm curious as to whether those that choose not to turn on ultra mode will end up getting some performance benefits related to the back end changes necessary to get ultra mode working. <shrug> We'll see. The devs haven't stated one way or the other that I've seen. -
I have a novel idea:
Let's wait and see what happens after the code gets overhauled in order to implement ultra mode.
If all the known lag spots are still present, then we can take this back up.
I, for one, have absolutely no idea how deep the back end changes are going to be, but knowing what I do know about all the known ATI issues, and being told that they are all going away with ultra mode, tells me that something heavy is occurring.
If everything gets worse at that point, well... I know what that will mean for me. -
I pulled the trigger. $1244.04 spent. Went with the Sapphire card with the vapor-x cooler and slightly higher clock speed.
Also grabbed the coolermaster 212 cpu heatsink from FX's rig recommendations so that I can OC some in safety.
Said fark it to the hard drive. If I want to go nuts later on, I'll grab a solid state drive for ludicrous load times.
Thanks for the help everyone. -
Got it and replied, FX. Great info as always.
I don't believe in overkill. The rig I run on right now is a C2D OCed to 2.7GHz with 2GB of RAM and an G92-8800GTS. It's not overkill for CHV now running at 1920X1200.
I started playing this game with a server board, 2 1GHz-P3 procs and a top of the line 9800 pro. Then it was the P4-HT-3Ghz and an x800xt, then the C2d with x1950xtx....
Holy crap I've spent a lot of cash on hardware.
Still pondering going with the 10K RPM WD hard drive. What do yall think? Worth it for the lower load times? -
Just yanked the hard drive. I've got more than enough HD space with my existing 7200 RPM drives. Maybe later I'll snag a 10K RPM for giggles.
This is more in prep work for future games, although knowing me, I couldn't stand playing CHV if not on the correct side of the performance curve.
Also looked at the benchmarks between the 5850 and the 5870. Looks like the extra cash for the 70 is worth it. EDIT: PDF updated. -
All,
Please see the pdf located here for what I'm looking to pull the trigger on.
Does anyone see anything as a bad idea?
Thanks for your time. Sitting on this until I get some feedback from my fellow techheads. -
Thanks, FX. Always nice coming home.
If you have a second, does this look acceptable to pull the trigger on? Or do you have better choices in mind? Uggh... guess I'll need to actually purchase Win7 with it as well. Pro OEM 1-pack should do the trick, yea? -
I hate flippers. They annoy me when I'm in a rush.
My main villain has a billion inf on him. I should get around to finishing his build sometime. My main hero is about as tweaked as he can be. He's sitting on 500 mil inf.
I don't flip. I don't play the market. I flip out and kill stuff. -
Quote:Are they just playing it safe in the 8800s since there were two versions of them?Posi listed the nVidia 9800GT as being able to run Ultra Mode at it's minimum settings.
So with the current crop of nVidia cards I would say 9800GT, GTS 250, GTX 260 and up.
For ATI I would say the HD 48xx, HD 57xx and HD 58xx series are safe bets.
My guess about Praetoria being optimized means full of glass buildings that will reflect your image as you pass and that there will be lots of reflecting pools.
It was mentioned once in this thread, but I'll hit it again. Since the 9800 was nothing but a slightly up-clocked version of the G92 8800, shouldn't the 8800, as long as you have the G92 version, also run ultra mode? -

Awesome work from Graver as always.
One day... maybe we'll get animated tails. -
Techbot,
The last LRSF I ran was with my rebuilt main DM/WP brute. We had no issue at all with the final fight.
Yes, I had some nice buffs on me. Yes, we had someone snipe Numina and pull her to us. She was halfway dead before Synapse came to her aid. The other brute on the team held aggro on Synapse while we finished off Numina. Then Synapse fell without issue.
Next pull failed and the whole lot poured in on us. No nukes were used. I just called the target and we went to town.
Communication is key.
Why would one snipe on Numina work for one team but not another? I have no idea. -
For anyone that enjoys the vast majority of the sounds in game while they play, yes.
Luckily for us, there are ways to deal with annoying sound FX in game.
I've nuked energy melee's hum and the peacebringer whine completely by replacing the two sound files with dead silence.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=113746
There's the guide.
A few posts into it, someone posted a silence.ogg file for easy download instead of going through the hassle of making your own.
It's honestly very easy.
Create a couple new directories. Copy the silence.ogg file into the correct directory. Rename it to be the filename of the sound you're trying to silence. Done. If you search through the thread, you'll probably find the filename for the effect you wish to silence.
On topic, EA is weak until softcap and a pain to get there. While the heal added to ED helped some, I found it didn't help enough. I still haven't deleted my 32ish claws/ea brute, but that's only because I haven't come up with anything else that fits the name Singularity's Edge. -

Although, I keep wondering if I'm the only player with a thousand point damage aura surrounding them all the time. I just assumed that was the latest veteran reward. Its not?

How bad could it be?
My SM/WP brute has stamina, quick recovery and two chance for +end procs.
He still runs dry when I get him rolling. -
The question must be HOW are you using all your attacks? If you're not sitting around waiting on attacks to recharge, then you're building fury with every attack you throw.
Ok, how about this: Instead of me throwing darts blindfolded, pick a brute of yours and tell me what his attack chain against an EB looks like.
Example: At level 6, a claws brute can push out steady attacks with brawl, swipe, strike and slash. Using those attacks alone, I can maintain 75+% fury, even pushing to 90%, doing nothing but street hunting in Mercy. -

Quote:Sam, you're doing it wrong. Every brute I have, and I think at last count that was 6 of them on Pinnacle, all are designed to build fury on their own with their attacks. That hasn't been my experience. When there's only one elite boss left, my Fury drains faster than I can build it, which basically drains me to nothing in not too long a time, which is unpleasant and problematic.
If you are losing fury while punching anything, especially hard targets that take more than two or three hits, then your attack chain is to blame.
I'm honestly unsure what you could be doing to lose fury against hard targets. That makes no sense to me at all. -
As the others have stated:
Want more damage output due to much higher AoE output? Claws.
Want more survivability and a much easier ride before 22? Dark. -
I blame being sick. I agree with you.
