QR: When is it ok to kick, UPDATED
*People leeching during a Rikti Ship Raid. *BOOT!* Enjoy that nice shiny single star you just earned, floating over your head for all time.
*Melee people who continually say: "Where's my healer? Where are the heals!" when they insist on running off and doing their own thing on a big map. Its totally the healer's fault they're dead, yanno.
*Kids who want to argue about how taking down a bunch of Rikti Pylons has nothing to do with getting us on the ship, why are we fighting these pylons!! Let's go to the ship already, this is bs!! This has nothing to do with a raid...!! etc. etc. even after longsuffering teammates try to explain it to him. Lucky im not the leader, sonny....
*People who REFUSE to hosp. See: leeching, See: *BOOT!*
*People who refuse to pick a travel power and ask "anyone have tp?" FIFTY! THOUSAND! TIMES!
*People who are level 10 and expect people in Peregrine Island to leave a mission and come pick them up in Steel, then tp them all the way to PI.
*People who innocently say "Hey can you invite my buddy?" and the buddy is level 10 on a level 50 team. [I am never the leader when this happens, good thing for the level 10].
*People who invite others to team, who are ten+ levels above them for purposes of unstated PLing. Example: a level 50 is invited to team by a level 20, who has a level 5 SK in tow. Fool me once, etc. etc.... the level 20 is the leader, but in such a case I boot MYSELF off the team, even as the level 20 tries to select my level 50 mission. NOOOOOOOOOOOOT HAPPENING.
And so now I /search every time I get an invite. -
Dear CoT caves:
I am going to detonate a large nuclear device in Faultline in the near future. I stole it from the Rikti during one of those 50,000 "Get a Rikti Bomb" missions.
Anyhoo, this matters to you because the resultant seismic aftershocks will make short work of both you and the Spectrals that haunt you. Heroes and villains alike will shout for joy, irregardless of factional differences; they will be briefly united in celebration.
I am looking forward to this immensely, hope you are too.

What I find odd is the fact that there are Hydra in Perez and DE in Crey's. If anything in this game looks like weird toxic waste monsters, it's the Hydra.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is an excellent point. I have never thought DE looked like they belonged in Crey's.
Otherwise, as I have stated many times before I am in full accord with adding new things to "forgotten" zones, especially contacts. THERE CAN NEVER BE TOO MANY WAYS TO LEVEL UP! More contacts = more ways to level up.
Keeps the game fresher, y'know. And if getting on my knees and literally begging for a Dark Astoria SF would do any good, I would do it. Villains should have access to it. -

So...most folks gunning for fast XP and stuff don't care about badges. And lot of the badge crowd don't care about the other rewards.
[/ QUOTE ]
How do you know this? Is this something off the top of your head? Because it looks like it is....
I care a great deal about badges and about xp. Its far from an either/or type of thing. This is just your opinion and completely unindicative of the mindsets of the majority of a plyerbase that is 140,000 or so strong. -
You hate Harvey...? I love him.
I love him because I would rather fight 50 Carnies ten times in a row than fight 50 Nemesis, Malta or any of the other PITA villain-groups we're given in the upper tiers of the game.
Now the PI outdoor Carnie hunts, those I drop because only about 5 Carnies spawn at a time [or so it seems] and I am not making a circuit of PI umpteen times, waiting for them to respawn.
But I like Carnies; I really do. They are weak to Fears, Confuses and stuns. -

In the end, I feel adding a game mechanic to the game that enables a user to block certain aspects from another user is wrong.

Only to you. To me, it is my sovereign right. You don't get to tell me what to do, sorry.
I have left teams in the past to get away from this kind of micromanagement. I can only say "thank god other players cannot see other people's slotting" because if they could, I can only imagine the storm of micromanagement that people like you wold try to perpetrate.
Right-click-off now, please. It is time, past time, more than time enough to end the reign of micromanagers like... well, like you. -

Why does everyone seem to think Nukes and Shivans are mandatory temps needed for anything hard?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because at least for the LRSF... they are required. Unless you feel like gambling that it will get finished... which means that you just wasted a coouple of hours.
Now 15 people are about to try and shout me down about how they're not required, but when *I* sign up for the LRSF [which isnt often these days], I enter with nukes and Shivans regardless of what they have to say. And there have been times when my nukes and shivans saved the day. If others want to enter with no temp powers, that's ok; its their SF.
I like hedging my bets. Also, people may quit, and I need an ace or three up my sleeve when they do.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you just said doesn't mean they're required, it means you like to have them and feel like you won't get invited if you don't. "Required" means either "you are guaranteed to fail" or "you won't even get an invite", neither of which is at all true. Proof? Master of Lord Recluse's Strike Force.
It has nothing to do with gambling, and everything to do with people who know what they're doing. If you haven't figured that out, it may account for your difficulties.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, if three-four people quit out of a team of eight, this means that the team "did not know what they are doing." Hmmm. And same for trying to pull one of the Freedumb Phalanx and having them arrive as a group: if you "know what you are doing," this will never happen.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't understand why taking a faceplant in a mission can be completely shrugged off while taking a faceplant issued from a player is serious business.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because when its a player involved, malice usually enters into the equation.
If Lord Mako runs up and hits me for 2000+ HP, well.... that's the game. If you run up as a level 50 and gank my level 25 innocently trying to take down a firebase.... that feels like malice. This is often borne out by Broadcast chat after the episode. Victors often like to crow about such an "accomplishment."
People dislike this intensely.
This is why I only PvP in the arena with friends. Arena PvP is a blast.
Malice.... not so much. -

How many high-number sustainable ToHit buff powers are there?
[/ QUOTE ] How many times can you afford to spend 50 influence on an inspiration?
[/ QUOTE ]
But see, here's the thing: if teams have to go load up on all yellows to beat this AV, then leave mission and go load up on all purples for that AV, then leave after that and go load up on all reds.... having to do that kind of thing just screams "broken!" to me. People should not be having to leave the mission multiple times because the only way they can take down an AV is by 20 of the same Inspiration.
I don't have to do that to take down Lusca or Adamastor, and I should not have to do it in a Strike Force. A well-equipped, experienced team of well-slotted players should not have to be doing this.
I am sure many disagree, but this isn't strategy, its buying one's way through a SF. Now we all probably pretty much agree that the LRSF is not going to be readdressed in our lifetimes, but this should not be SOP for getting through a SF. I cannot think of another TF other than the LRSF where people know right off not to show up without 5 Shivans and at least two nukes per person, otherwise the SF will fail. That is just.... ridiculous. And it does not say "well balanced" to me. -

I need a better definition for Street Sweeper, one that covers Redside, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Street Sweeper- one who enjoys "arresting"(street sweeper) or "roughing up"(hunter) npc's in zones in between their main play type. May be more particular to this play type during lower levels; then they may branch out to other types of play.
*I don't believe anyone would go 1-50 just on street content alone. *
May not be deserving of full category...maybe belong as a sub-type under Explorer. (?) (OTOH, may be deserving of TWO seperate catergories with Street Sweeper refering to blueside and Hunter refering to redside)
what do you think?
[/ QUOTE ]I've never played Redside. Blueside, street sweeping is solely of arresting mobs standing around or walking in a limited paths on the streets. They may be threatening civilians in various ways (just threatening, or attempting robbery), committing various acts of larceny or vandalism, fighting one another and/or local law enforcement, or just "hanging out".
What can you do for XP on the streets Redside?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ambush Longbow and Arachnos. Also Hellions, Family, Scrapyarders and pretty much anyone you see; but especially Longbow.
I have several villains who make a hobby out of seeking out and destroying high-conning Longbow Wardens. I have been playing CoH since march of '08 and still to this day, the only good Longbow is a Longbow with a red reticle and an empty HP bar.Hate them.
[/ QUOTE ]So, in essence, the same as Blueside, except the "cops" are fair game, too? Are the various villains doing the same sorts of things they do on Blueside?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, you're not going to see much purse-tug-of-war in the Isles.
You see Arachnos standing guard here and there, or walking around in groups on patrol; same with Longbow. The funny thing about Longbow in CoV is that they often stand around chitchatting with civilians in Nerva, which really sets them up for the odd ASSASSIN-STRIKE! *Hit-points fly into the air* I love that.
Snakes stand around in groups a lot but tend not to do much.... Scrapyarders wander around with strike-signs or following Scrapyard all over Sharkhead. CoV enemy NPCs do different things than what you see in Paragon, all I seem to see in Paragon is the CoT roasting people over an open fire or.... purse tug-of-war.
Boring. At least in the Isles, we have Family standing around arguing... or beating people who owe them money with baseball bats. Sometimes they have gunfights using cars as shields. Its pretty funny, actually.
-
It is far from easy on a PuG. Only attempt with a PuG if everyone is willing to do a Shivan run and a nuke run beforehand, as needed. You may have a prayer of sucess with plenty of temp powers.
-
Squid, just bring 2-3 nukes. Its all but impossible to seperate the FP; so why fight it? Puns intended. Just have everyone bring a nuke or two and "strike force complete!"
As for the devs changing anything about this SF, I don't see it happening. After all, people have been begging for that bugged Tech to be fixed for literally years now, and to the best of my knowledge this has yet to be addressed.
I think they just don't care. So if they don't, I don't. *goes off to Warburg....* -

Good point, Geek_Boy. Not only that, but the MA buildings in some zones are really hopping; hardly brought down.
[/ QUOTE ]
Correction: the MA buildings in Freedom's Atlas 1 and Atlas 2 are "really hopping." Elsewhere they are ghost-towns. Both in Freedom's other zones [with the possible occasional exception of the Talos MA.. that has a few people in there at peak times] and on other servers that I have visited.
Especially redside. Complete and total ghost-towns.
Sounds like a "success" to me.... success at running everyone off, that is. I wouldn't call scaring everyone out of using The New Shiny all that much of a success for the game, but obviously I know nothing. -

We on the Dark Side can has Grand Marnier. And Absolut. And Crown Royal, and all that kinda stuff. Bad habits, they do a body good. The occasional Assassin-Strike, well... that's just icing on the cake. -
I have been on many STFs before and I have never seen him behave anything even close to how he was this morning.
-
Pick up the mission and outlevel it at least once. 2-3 times is even better.
I find that this puts troublesome EBs nicely in their place. -
Was on a STF last night. We steamrolled everything until Lord Mako showed up in the middle of our fight with Black Scorpion.
Fair enough, we get BS down and then turn our attention to Mako. There's only one problem: Mako is literally unkillable.
We pounded on Mako for about 30 minutes. I am not joking, I was watching the clock because it was 4:30 am and I was all but exhausted.
We got him down to half-health, below which we were completely unable to budge him. Kept him there for about 10 minutes, then he began to gain hit-points until he was almost at full health again - despite the fact that we were hitting him with everything we had, and this was a good team btw. When he was almost at full health again, at this point the team dissolved in exhausted disgust. The leader said that she and her friend who was also on our team had run the TF earlier in the day and it took a full team ONE HOUR to kill Mako.
I have been on many giant monster teams and I have never ever seen a GM take 30+ minutes to kill. I have been on teams fighting Eochai and Jack In Irons AT THE SAME TIME and never had to pound on them for 30+ minutes.
If it does not take an hour to kill - for instance - Lusca, I am at a loss to understand why Mako is now completely unkillable, because you would think that a giant monster would be a heck of a lot tougher to take down. We had pets out. We were using temp powers. If we had it, we used it.
Nada.
Is Mako considered an "exploit" and so he was buffed accordingly? The other AVs seemed as usual.
I have run the STF many times and I have never once seen this happen before. All of the AVs are of course tough to take down, but this my friends and foes, is completely and utterly ridiculous. -
[ QUOTE ]
A cynical person might think that they deliberately let the MA over reward during the aniversary/ reactivation period to sucker people into renewing their accounts for a game circumstance they had no intention in allowing them to play.
[/ QUOTE ]
And this brings to fruition an opinion that was in the back of my mind, but that I had not yet formulated.
I think that's EXACTLY what they did.
It really would have been kinder to just host another double-xp weekend or event than do this, though. I just can't repeat enough how poorly the recent spate of bannings and lockouts I have been reading about, reflects on the game.
People should not be locked out, banned or have things deleted unless they are literally trying to hack the game or actually damage some real-life component of it. All this other crap is hitting a fly with a sledgehammer and I really hope the developers have thought this through carefully, because it does not look good.
They are acting like CoX is an inelastic good. IT IS FAR FROM THAT. I would have thought they learned that way back in the Enhancement Diversity days, but.... *shrug*..... -

Funny, I tend to take Air Superiority because I like like Fly over any of the other travel powers, and for a melee combat character I'd rather have another attack than Hover.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly; my melee people do not pick up Hover because that would be a wasted power pick for them.
[/ QUOTE ]
It would? Hover has only a fraction of the cost of Fly, does not suppress and can be DAMN fast if slotted for speed. Granted, if you don't intend to fly WHILE fighting, then I can see not needing Hover, but then... Well, why go for Fly? Where's the fun in that?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't hover while fighting melee because its pointless since they nerfed it to no longer supress knockback. Plus a lot of those people have shields which protect them from KB anyway, so it would have been overkill.
My ranged people hover because they are squishy, and this keeps them out of melee range; my melee people of course cannot Assassin Strike from 20 feet in the air, for example, and Hover would get in their way.
I choose Flight because I do not like ground-based powers such as SS due to obstacles. I don't like SJ because after some experimentation with the jump-pack, that uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup and doooooooooooooooooooooooown motion you get as you travel makes my head hurt. [It really does. Gives me a headache]. I have generally not heard good things about teleport as a personal travel power. Why put up with downsides to a pool when I can just pick flight and be happy with everything?
Everyone flies over here. And since I have to have a prereq... on melee people its Air Sup, and my ranged people pick up both that and hover. Air Sup is truly a power that has its uses no matter what kind of character you are on. It usually replaces Brawl in my trays when I get it. Its sort of what Brawl ought to be. -

They don't -need- stamina no matter what powers they take if they slot appropriately and play intelligently.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi, Fuzzy Pink Cthulhu:
I'm old-school and I call continually begging other players for blues not playing intelligently, nor do I think they're well-slotted since they're running on 2 ticks or less of Endurance at all times.
Nowhere in this thread has anyone said that Stamina is mandatory. Its not mandatory.
But if you pass it up, don't be panhandling for blues. That's the main point of my original post; this is not supposed to be some build-Nazi war where anyone tells the entire playerbase to pick up Fitness OR ELSE.
And by the way....! Didn't you recently dub me a "very, -very- bad person!"? Seems like you should be avoiding me, lest my evil be contagious. -
[ QUOTE ]
At some point it's a design failure, though. I mean, when I play a /kin I ignore those people too, but it's not like that's a good situation. I'm irritated, I'm sure they're irritated, and the team is less effective than it could be, cause SB is a really effective buff.
Which is why I think SB should be changed something other than a single target ability.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not all of us agree with you, unfortunately.
They can do whatever you want 'em to with SB, the instant we get right-click-off. -
