Quote:Huh, you know, I'm actually a little disappointed that (though suddenly feel like it makes a lot of sense) Requiem was just originally just another Magical origin Dark power guy.Wait, Arachne?
More to point, the problem with Requiem is that his origin was basically restamped with a different label, without actually altering the story. If you read Jennie Bassie's journals, you can pretty much see the story was written to be mystical and fill in the Column's quota of magic in their Supersoldier/Robot/Monster/Demon circle of evil. It actually reads like an old Raiders of the Lost Arc story, and the werewolf thingy we get from the Path of the Dark story used to be stored at MAGI, instead of SERAPH.
With the 5th Column retconned into the Council with all the subtlety of a V8 Chainsaw, their old stories just went to crap, ESPECIALLY Requiem's story, which went from ancient magic cult to fluffy purple aliens.
As far as Requiem's involvement goes, I still don't know how he manages to be in the past with his old Column powers of Darkness (and it IS Darkness) and still be in the present with his new powers of Purple, all at the same time. Does he commute between the past and the present or something? What is he hoping to achieve with Romulus?
I came in after issue three, and in all my time playing, I've only seen magic or natural origin characters use darkness, and I had thought that it made Requiem cool that he was a canon example of SCIENCE! origin dark powers.
But I kind of should have known better.
The whole thing always made me wonder 'why did the nictus side with the Center if Requiem had already been one of them?' And there's my answer... He hadn't originally been a nictus, and they changed it for some weird reason when they had brought in Arakhn and could have kept Requiem the same origin and power and so forth.
It's all really sad, I'm a lousy RPer and I thought MY characters' back stories got convoluted. -
Quote:Don't forget using giant mecha that belong more in Japanese cartoons.Malta...ehh. I think they're just a bunch of none-too-sneaky new world order claiming they're descendants of some great order. What kind of supranational men in black secret overlords walk around harassing civilians in broad daylight?
Just... Seriously... I hope part of the relook into old content includes looking over old villain groups and fixing up some things (like Nemesis and Sky Raiders lack of any normal human bosses, though that might be a hint...) and updating looks.
I think ideally Malta should be a rare spawn in Peregrine, and a special outdoor version would be the only one that spawns, maybe the occasional fully suited up sniper on the roof or secret gatherings on one of the outer islands.
Nemesis could probably employ more automatons for outdoor purposes too instead of endless swarms of soldiers everywhere. -
Quote:Well, that was the common but inaccurate response.oh and for people who say "IT will never happen" that response was common to threads suggesting side-switching not too long ago
I think the devs have said that they can theoretically do just about anything suggested in the suggestions forums... But in reality there are various constraint factors and it's only in rare cases is something truly impossible by the game's engine (like long skirts and robes), and some of the constraints are just the time and manpower that would need to be invested into it to make it right. -

The former I meant, not the latter, it did seem like a decent challenge, though having been doing a lot of flashbacks lately on my brute (who in his pre-stamina days was the not-so-feared villain "Captain Sucks-Air") I can see that even that could be a little frustrating.
-
I like this idea, so I'll /sign it.
But... if we really HAD to make it a challenge to get, how about being able to flashback a mayhem or safeguard of any level range at anytime, but you first had to complete all the arcs in the level range of those mayhem or safeguard.
...
Though that would likely just make it painful and frustrating. -
Quote:The only problem I can possible see with this is that A LOT of enemies are insanely taller than our characters can ever hope to be.Yeah, but if you base your character on the in game average height (civilians, Hellions, etc) then its someone elses porblem if their character is stupidly tall. Or a midget.
For clarification, Im talking about putting *all* the NPCs in that dropdown. Heck, make still images scaled to size, and simply impose them on the background in place of the black cityscape we have at the moment. That way you dont need to add in animations or anything consuming like that.
My proposal to fix this would be to add to the maximum height by 1 foot or so.
(Hehehe, sorry, I've been wanting to make my old Cold War Soviet Science Fair Robot as large as I've felt he should be for being made of software of the time.) -
Quote:Funny you should mention this, I actually rolled a Nuclear 90 Rad/DP defender on Virtue recently. I'm on her right now.I have no idea if this thread is still being seen to or not, but I remembered it just as I was looking to find the appropriate red-name to send a PM to. There might even be a lore-wise player about.
Fusionette and the Nuclear 90; have they all got energy-based powers, or have some of them got radiation-based powers as well? Do we know of any one of these super-powered beings besides Fusionette? Is Fusionette's hair dyed to suit her 'quirky' personality, or is the blue hue a side-effect of her mutation?
These all may seem terribly trivial, but I'm looking to make one of these Nuclear 90 myself. I like to know as much about my characters as possible, and I felt odd not knowing whether my character would naturally have blue hair or not. So naturally, I can't start them yet and remain sane. They're on the back-burner for now, anyway.
Anyway though, my personal view of the Nuclear 90 (so take it with a bag of salt and the worth of a hill of beans) is that the devs deliberately gave it to us as an open concept we, the players, can expand upon and was left open to interpretation. -
Quote:In the end, the answer to this thread is the Devs are not ArchitectsOne thing to note here is that If you make a female 8 "feet" tall and stand next to a regular mission door. The top of your head will be even with the top of the door. This would be consistent with doors in "Real Life" for most commercial doors. Many doors in your average household are around 7 feet.
I do however agree that the sense of scale dose at times feel off in COH/V. -
Quote:A nicely done example of this is Kurst of the Lost from the Faultline arcs, he's easily the smallest of the Lost despite being the one of the more hideously mutated, but he can still be pretty tough. To be honest, I kind of enjoy that. I like the concept that raw brute strength and bug muscles can only take you so far, and that sometimes, the strongest one of them all isn't necessarily the most bloated one. It's the Old Sensei Effect in action, where a tiny unassuming old man will toss a bunch of big brawny muscle men like a salad. Yoda, in fact, is probably the quintessential old sensei of Western fiction.
...
Basically, my problems with scale are that far too many enemies are far too big for far too little reason, not the other way around. My other problem with scale is that bosses often seem to be bigger than their followers, which doesn't always make sense, especially when their powers are not driven by their bodymass, such as mental powers or magic.
And for the rest of your post, I have to agree with you. -
Quote:Likely referring to that it's shorthand for Pedophiles.I do agree with the rest and the 'Its broken' comment.
But...peds s bad? Peds = Pedestrians. I...wasn't aware of any ulterior meaning..? Unless it means sometehing wholly different across the pond? (I know your not from there, Sam, before you remind me)
Could also be a racial slur, because sometimes you just have to wonder if a bunch of backwater hicks sometimes get together and shout random syllables until they arrive at something vaguely offensive sounding and then begin calling people of a random ethnic group that. -
Quote:Combine this with only 2 of the original five ATs being melee oriented so vaguely about 3/5ths of the player base fighting at a distances, the height differences might not be noticed until someone rolls a tank or a scrapper.Actually, once I started using MA, I realized what might be another reason the Devs chose to make somany enemies seemingly oversized- the player's perspecive is usually from behind and above thier character- if your critters are "average height", this perspective makes them look undersized.
(Or a poor ranged Sod whiffs on their attacks) -

The only thing that could make that kid's life more awkward is if this guy had the god-fathers of Jason Burrows and Scott Nall. -
I would like to point that to work around the rule... Just follow the link in my sig.

Now getting to a more serious note, one thought for forcebolt might be basically making it a slottable nemesis staff bolt. I mean why not? So what if a defender, controller, or MM now has a slottable high damage attack with a 100 ft range? None of the above classes are exactly designed to be damage dealers on their own. (Well, the MM's a slightly different case but still)
Though in the end, this is far from saying that the OP's idea is bad for it. I know it would still be nice.
Carni-fax seemed to have a good idea about Detention Field, though perhaps instead of knockback it's a delayed stun AoE. This could go doubly so is we assumed that Detention field bubble was air tight.
Maybe halving the duration like I think the OP said as well as the recharge and that works pretty well.
Now for repulsion field and force bubble, here's a thought: what if the actual field of knockback was much smaller, like Repel (about ten feet radius around the caster) but the outer areas (the other 15 feet of radius) had gave a slow and a -tohit debuff effect effect?
Now for a random thought about PPF, Umbral's right how it does seem weird to give a defender set something that almost seems more fitting for a tank armor, so...
What if while you activated PPF, you had a Debuff aura around yourself that would allow you continue to contribute to the team in the form of a PBAoE pseudo pet that's not effected by the "affecting only self".
Okay, it's nearly 4AM when I wrote this, so... probably not the best ideas. Feel free to disregard. -
Bumping this thread because it's cool and important.

Though there was a thread on this a while ago and BAB kind of shot it down if I recall.
And though it may never be, though we don't actually die...
I would still like one that has our toons, falling over backwards while clutching flowers upright over their chest and a little tombstone pops up above their head where they fall. -
Well, that's be a rather gender specific booster... But I know at least one player who would love it, and I can think of a thousand uses for maid ouitfits for non-maids.

Quote:DESTROY THE BOX!Technically, no. The Box is less a power source and more of a power sink. While closed the Box drains "potential" from the world, storing it, opening the box returns the world to its natural "super" state.
But seriously though, one of my own personal wanks has been that the Box doesn't even do that, opening it simply removes a "block" in the human mind (and I do mean human since there are quite a few demons that have been around for a long time in City of Verse) that basically gives us our sense of "Reality" in other words, what can and cannot be done, also allowing us to more easily perceive things that fall outside of our views of "reality". -
Okay, this thread, for starters, is inspired by this thread in the General forums.
It's basically given some thought into the idea that perhaps a revision on the AV system could be considered.
As such this thread will be including suggestions and open to suggestions, including 'nay'-saying.
But for starters, I'd like to point out some of the numbers looked over from Paragon Wiki:
The average boss at as high as level 55 has 2,770 points of HP, the next step up, the Elite boss who, at the same level, has possesses double that number. Fair enough.
But an AV of the 55th level has more than five times the HP of the Elite Boss at 31,285 hit points, this exponential boon in HP can be seen even as low down the scale as level one with 864 points of HP to the EB's 180 and by as low as level 13, they literally will have more HP than a Tanker could ever hope to have.
But why do I bring up HP? Because the argument in the linked thread is that, often, pounding endlessly on the same sack of HP for long periods of time with no variation gets both tedious and tiresome. So, here are my own suggestions for this side of the problem as well as a possible idea to make AV fights a bit more interesting...
1. Increasing debuffs as HP declines: While not a direct HP fixer, I imagined that perhaps as you get an AV down in HP, say starting at the 60% mark, perhaps (thinking along the lines of a bizzaro SR passives), an AV begins to suffer from a building Regen, Res, and Def debuff. This could give a good sense that they're "wearing down" while you're just winding up for the finishing blow and also make an AV hitting their tier nine armor really seem like a "giving this my last shot my all."
On the more extreme side of things we have:
2. AV ATs: Basically have AVs function more like the AT their supposed to be or a close approximation of, complete with some of the functions of their inherent powers while at the same time reducing their HP to something closer to said AT (of course with some buff that scales up based on team size). Like having Ghost Widow need to hit domination, or Synapse use defiance to keep attacking even when held, or Black Scorpion beginning fights hitting only as hard as an Lt. but scaling up to more painful levels of damage as the fight continues.
We can already see this in some AVs, mostly Mako, really, and the down side is certain AVs having inherent powers and so forth that would either detriment them, or simply have no use in a fight. (Positron suddenly realizes how weak Vigilance really is...)
There's also certain AVs that were never designed with an AT in mind, like Dr. Vazhiklok, or Nemesis, and in the end, many AV/Hero class enemies would need to have their powers extensively looked at.
These are just a few possible ideas, and probably the worst we'll see in this thread.
I look forward to seeing everyone else's own opinions and ideas in this thread.

That is true, and the opening of the Box is something that affects the entire planet, if I recall. So it could be opened in the Antarctic and we'd still get Inuit Superman
