So, as you may or may not know (and if you don't, you may not want to read this) as of the end of the Underground Trial, Desdemona has become the Mistress of the Carnival of Light after Vanessa DeVore's untimely death at the... Somethings of the Avatar of Hamidon.
Now I'm not going to talk about women in refrigerators or anything like that, what I really call into question is if it's a smart idea to have Desdemona leading an organization as vital as the Carnival of Light?
I mean let's look at the facts: in tip missions she's appeared in, you either beat her to a pulp, she needs YOUR help (and only because you're doing your thing first and foremost while she follows you), or in general fails and not evenly epically.
While we might say that her solo career is not a sign of her leadership skills, given her AT is Master Mind, they really are!
I mean, what we've seen of her strategic skills is: "put demons (and player(s)) between myself and enemy fire, occasionally crack whip to look like I do something."
Let's also not forget that until the Underground trial, she never even took her second tier pets, nor most of her powers (though she might have been going for an RP concept build) in her primary, secondary, or pool.
Note that even during the trial she doesn't have ANY leadership auras either, which while not a sure sign a character is a good leader, does provide some mechanical game clue she knows a little more about strategy than the Zapp Brannigan Tactic.
So in the end: while her opponents aren't exactly the love child of Sun Tzu and Edward Rommel, they do possess superior numbers and raw force/power, meaning tactics and strategic thinking are a must. Can we really trust Desdemona to lead the Carnival of Light (and potentially by extension, the Resistance) effectively when she still seems to think she's playing a game of Starcraft and lives are as expendable as zerglings and hydralysics?
P.S. Also, as I think about this, I find the idea of Desdemona getting the mask to be strikingly similar to Hot Rod claiming the Matrix of Leadership. See also: an important role was given to an idiot. -
Quote:Are you sure that's not just a revamped portal corp mission?
Either way, I am NOT fighting Reichsduck, he has the fury inherent AND can stack his rage up to three times. -
[Leaked footage from post Who Will Die SSA issue reveals that apparently, not only will Statesman by the one to die, but Donald Duck shall take his place as the Incarnate of Zeus.
This cut scene shows Donald Duck's origin mission. -
Quote:it's because the devs are unlikely to ever give us an actual spear/polearm fighting. These suggestions are partly from our lose of faith of actually getting the good things we ask for.I was expecting TW to be smashing/lethal to be honest. So no surprise about the sword. Other than size, Titan Weapons does not restrict what kind of weapon is being supersized. Heck, they could make giant beam guns and it would still fit the concept.
Staff however, says staves to me. Not spears, javelins, rods, halberds or other things with hooks or sharp/cutting bits at the end, which possibly apart from Innocuous Strikes won't fit the animations. Still, at the end of the day, it's more options so... meh.

Quote:Admittedly, nice as Praet tech is, a paranoid police state like that probably has everything that's not nailed down lo-jacked or something. Not doing it when the opportunity presents itself is the opposite of what villains do. Why aren't there any "go into Praetoria and steal anything that isn't nailed down" trials?
Or the computers might not be compatible in operating system terms, you know, since we've heard nothing of a Praetor Gates or Praetor Jobs. -
My half-way between losing the fog and keeping it: have the zone normally be all foggy and give the zone pretty much NO street spawns. Have playgrounds with swings that swing on their own with an eerie creaking.
Then, a zone event kicks in, an air raid siren sounds, and the fog lifts revealing the true, twisted form Astoria has fallen into. Zombies are bursting out of doors, rising out of the ground in the cemetery, and everything has gone from simply abandoned looking to nightmarish. -
To make it better, you could talk to a longbow agent who's downed and help plant bombs and/or get a target painter temp power to help damage the base!

Thank you for the highlights, VK!

Quote:Tell Statesman to Clench Those Teeth!Doing arcs like these where our own characters go back and 'mend' these incidents would be cool.
Ouroboros -
One thought that might be interesting is to play on our desire for a solo path by making a SOLO ONLY path to contrast with the team only path.
In my mind I imagined it might be cool if we got special Ouroboros arcs that basically let us live out various moments in the lives of existing Incarnates.
An arc dedicated to learning what was the turning point in Tyrant's life where he accepted that people could never be trusted, an arc where Statesman gave up and resigned himself to his present state, where Lord Recluse first learned that one day the Well may consume him, where Stheno rises to power and founds the Snakes, Trapdoor's Escape, or Hero 1's discovery of Excalibur.
Possibly even delve into Incarnates of the past, such as Gilgamesh or Cu Chulainn? (Assuming either one are, Gilgamesh is strongly implied to have possibly been the first Incarnate according to the Lore)
Of course, other ideas mentioned are much better but I'd hope that if they're going to shove the Incarnate lore path down our throats we could at least learn more about what the hell these guys are. -
Quote:Actually, Sister Psyche doesn't have healing powers. The cocky speedster?
The sarcastic lady's man archer?
Either of the women, who are both psychics with healing powers?
I couldn't care less really. None of them have ever engaged my imagination in the slightest.
She's just a mind control/force field controller with a few ranged attacks to compensate for the fact that she can't solo for crap. -
Pretty much here's how it goes for me:
Who I wouldn't mind to see die-
1. Citadel: His TF has made me loathe any fifth/council missions in the mid twenties up due to the endless sound of full auto. (worse than high level Nemesis since you at least have flamethrower 'woosh'ing in between) Plus, for being one of the first robots according to the game's lore, he doesn't feel very interesting.*
2. Synapse: He left a very very bad impression on me in the "Origin of Power" arc and was a complete idiot in the first part of the Who Will Die Arc, worse than Alexis going to negotiate with an unstable Blitz.
And to be honest, having a friend who plays a cocky speedster better as well as being a fan of the Flash, I can't help but feel Paragon studios did do a great job handling the character as a whole.
Now not to say either of these characters cannot become appealing or should die, I just would feel the least impact from their deaths and feel more interesting characters could step up.
Who I would like to see injured but survive (or specifically rerolled)-
1. Back Alley Brawler: This is mostly because when he was created in issue one, we didn't have a lot of powers that fit the bill of a guy like him. But now we could totally have him become the Street Justice/Willpower toon he was clearly always meant to be!
2. Statesman: In this case, it's just me thinking it would be cool to see States become a shield/electric tank (because a dude who's led his team for so long and love Greek themes so much would honestly go WITHOUT Grant Cover or PHALANX fighting?), and from a story point it makes sense in my head. With Tyrant getting so much of the Well's support and Statesman having been uncooperative with it, it would just make sense that the Well would get frustrated with how complacent States can be as well as knowing he's standing in the way of it's current champion and pull all support from him.
Who I want to live-
Positron, Numina, Manticore, and Sister Psyche: I'm partly a sucker for romance, but with the developments they've gotten, it would feel kind of mean to just kill them now. Though maybe Positron should go into the second list since he should maybe consider UPGRADING HIS DAMN ARMOR once in awhile.*
*Admittedly, in the case of these guys, it's because I've always had this beef with tech based characters where their appearances and abilities tend to be very static and remain as such. It's something I've personally never liked since it doesn't capture the ever-progressing spirit of technology. -
I like to imagine many of my villains holding to the tvtropes list of evil virtues.
I like to think that a lot of the Rogue Isles hold to at least four or five of these virtues, otherwise the whole place would truly fall to pieces and not even Lord Recluse would be able to salvage it.
And I must say, as far as characters I play and even some I fight against, I like mostly villains who can be respected.
Villains who are polite, efficient, determined, and honorable (in their own strange way).
But I occasionally do like utter monsters, but only for enemies I fight, and usually such foes would not be human in any sense of the word.
And as a funny note, this thread made me realize that NONE of my villains would ever engage in a world domination plot but one of my heroes WOULD try if he honestly felt the world sucked that much. -
We do have one that buffs defense and resistances called "Demonic Aura" for villains and "Eye of the Magus" for heroes.
And as much as I would love these, they'd probably be a bit too broken. -
Even so, the issue stands that several villain groups that span multiple ranges tend to have some very strange limitations of specific enemies in their ranks.
The second issue being the lack of certain pieces being in the CoT costume bundle and no explanation being given as to why. (Even positron seemed to just be guessing) -
Quote:Cole: looking over David's shoulder So... You REALLY think my tower should go THERE?The majority of my time on GR, I was working on architecture, whether it was researching real-world examples, painting moodpieces, or matching up the details on front-side-back buildsheets. And a pretty significant amount of time was spent figuring out what a Praetorian bench or fire hydrant should look like. So yes, definitely! I often felt like Emperor Cole's City Planner-in chief.

I'm finding myself unable to stop leaving comments on these. I apologize if some of them are a bit sharp and snarky, but whenever I critique my mind goes into a "Yahtzee mode".

Quote:Admittedly, in Siege and the warwork's cases, it might just be he Devs not wanting people sticking GM sized bosses into tiny little blue caves tunnels.More updated Praetor Looks would be cool too. They updated everyone but Siege/Nightstar.
Of course it's still a load of BS since it's the "We don't like clipping and you shouldn't either" reasoning if it is true, but I didn't say it was a good reason.
Oh, also, let's not forget maybe adding simplified cutscene captions that we could link to being triggered by certain objectives or some of the new emote stances NPCs can assume, such as 'on hands and knees'. -
Don't forget, there's also no celestial claws either.
-
A lot of things need to be added to AE, including EAT powersets, the newly released powersets, and expanding the level bands of the level bands of certain groups (such as the midnighters) due to their appearances in TFs, as well as the addition of various First Ward groups.

Quote:uhhh... okay, this is an example of me accidentally trolling. I had only meant that post as a joke.Except we don't know what consequences there might have been for those reactors. Praetoria is filled with citizens who have everything they could want but have no idea of the hidden costs. For all we know, Anti-Matter's reactors run on [really horrible thing I don't care to make the effort to think of].
-
Unfortunately, due to certain limitations of the universe, this will never be fully realized.
Just as Positron's apparently smart enough to invent all his gadgets and toys but lacks the common sense to build the impressive, powerful, and apparently 100% safe and environmentally friendly reactors his Praetorian counterpart did. -
The night will last until November 2nd!
Ahahahahaha! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
