    Tornados

Have Tornado (the power)'s recharge be faster than its duration, and you can have more than one out at a time. Same for Lightning Storm.

    Tanks vs Brutes

Siolfir, thanks again for backing me up on this. I did, in fact, mean the power. Which is why I said Taunt (the power) and not "Punchvoke" or "Gauntlet," which are separate powers.

I didn't know the difference between the base damage modifier for Brutes and Tankers. I'll freely admit that. However, that .05 scale difference is gone in about five seconds of fighting on a Brute, so I feel it's largely moot.

I also didn't know the -range component on the Brute version of Taunt (again, the power, not Punchvoke or Gauntlet) wasn't AoE. Seems like an odd distinction, but may have been implemented for the sake of differentiating between the two.

Does Bruising give a debuff that benefits the team? Absolutely. If the Tank focuses on a hard target Boss/EB/AV, that debuff is solid and lasts throughout the fight. If the Tank focuses on switching targets constantly to spread the debuff around (which lasts 10 seconds and does not stack from same or different casters), then they're basically just Jab-ing everything to make sure the debuff is spread.

Tankers are not debuffers; I firmly believe the Bruising power was implemented to help Tankers (and Tankers only) do more damage while solo or in small teams, so they could feel more relevant to the actual defeating of enemies, rather than standing in the middle of a spawn and waiting for teammates to do the actual defeating.
  4. Also, the "but still" is for this:

Yes, I can turn off the effects of the "drunkenly fell into a pile of poo." That's all well and good, because the other powers in the set still show up and are color tintable.

I can also leave the poo coat on, and change its colors. Which I did, in the costume creator on Beta, for the better part of an hour. Still looks like poo. Poo from gorging on Fruit Loops for three days.

If people are awesomely fine with the Guyver/Prototype thing, that's cool and I hope you'll enjoy it. I just don't like the FX on those two particular powers, just like the original Granite Armor looked like poo. Poo is bad. I'll just go minimal FX on it, I just wish I DIDN'T HAVE TO.

    Dark Control

    I'm tellin' ya: Dark/Dark.

I just ran another ITF with Ravendusk, and the output and performance is leaving my Fire/Storm in the dust.

End recovery; defense, resistance, good controls, in *and* out of melee, super-strong heal, lots of pets...it's amazing.

    Tanks vs Brutes

...I could have sworn the Brute melee modifier was higher than a Tanker's.

    Tanks vs Brutes

See, I hate to nitpick, but that's pure conjecture.

Would a Brute have died in that situation? Who's to say? It depends on too many variables.
Would a Tank have died in that situation? Same deal.
Would a Brute with Taunt have been completely interchangable without the team really noticing? Perhaps.

As far as I'm concerned, the only generalizations to be made dealing with Tank vs. Brute are thusly:

    a) Tanks have higher base resistance and defense numbers (But a Brute can come close or meet them with IOs)
    b) Brutes have higher base damage (Tanks may be able to come close with IOs).
    c) Brutes can take Taunt (the power), which functions the same way on either AT.

A lot of things are assumed when one of these ATs joins a team. "Oh, the tank is finally here!" "Damn, another Brute. They're worse than scrappers."

These assumptions need to be challenged.

It's worth the read. Post #29 is where the magic happens.
I'd read it before, but still...ARGH IT HURTS MY EYES.

Could someone, I don't know, Werner or somebody give a link to a YouTube of something with softcapped defenses sitting in a giant pile of enemies and not dying? I have to hope that might convince her.

This is what I've been trying to explain, but Siolfir did so way more beautifully and succinctly than I could. Much obliged.
  10. Did it occur to anyone that the OP may be, I don't know, a 12-year-old girl?

I have a 12-year-old niece, and these sound like exactly the kinds of arguments her and I have. You *can't* argue facts and logic to most 12-year-old girls. They're right, you're wrong, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
  11. I would prefer to wait for Bio Armor until after they have power FX that don't look like I fell in a cart full of cow manure.

...and yes, I know you can do "minimal FX" but still.

    Tanks vs Brutes

I will agree that the "rate at which I kill things" feeling is subjective. 30 seconds to defeat a spawn may be quick for some, agonizingly slow for others.

However, that said, my original opinion remains. Why (assuming identical sets) would I play a Tanker over a Brute, when for all intents and purposes the Brute can be built to be almost as survivable, when their killing speed advantage makes up for the difference in survivability?
  13. Aurora_Girl

    Tanks vs Brutes

I would imagine it's a fact, because I don't believe the Tank can get enough damage bonuses to make up the difference.

If that's not so, I'd love to see it. Tank's the only hero AT I have yet to get to 50, because I still operate under "Why not make a brute instead? It's more fun because it actually kills things."
  14. Aurora_Girl

    Tanks vs Brutes

Okay,so they're not going to be slotted/setted the same way.

Those "other bonuses the Brute won't be able to" aren't going to make up for the wildly huge gap in the time it takes to kill the spawn.
  15. It steals your baby's DNA and sells it to the Chinese for cloning.

    ...or so I heard.
  16. Aurora_Girl

    Tanks vs Brutes

How isn't it the same build? Other than the Def being a little higher, the Res being moderately higher, and the damage being significantly lower? That's not a difference in builds, it's an inherent difference in the base AT values.

By "same build" I mean same powers, same slotting.
  17. Well, I guess we all have to stop now. That's unfortunate.

    Tanks vs Brutes

    YOU AGAIN! My nemesis.

The tank has floundered with Liberteene's rise to AWESOMESAUCE. For me personally, why would I spend another billion inf on the same build?

Perhaps, one day, I'll make another Tanker, but that day is not today.

    Tanks vs Brutes

I see the point you're trying to make here, Claws, but consider this:

Compare SS/Inv to Inv/SS: Both built the same way, full SS/Inv maxed to the gills for S/L defense, Max HP, Regen, the whole shebang.

The time it takes to defeat one +4/x8 spawn of, say, Council is wildly different between the tank and the Brute. Both survive.

The time it takes for the same spawn of, say, Carnies, is still wildly different, because the Brute can defeat them so much more quickly. It's a scale. The quicker enemies are defeated the less time is needed to survive those enemies' attacks.

    You're right, though.
    Quote:
If a Brute's survivability is not up to the task of keeping him alive...
is the difference, but wildly varying differences between powersets and how the AT is played requires these kinds of comparisons to be made between (at the very least) the same powersets.

Survivability = Damage Resistance + Defense + Regen + HP + Damage (Because the best defense/debuff is -HP :P)
  20. This happened to me the other day: It's not an account thing, it's a "You have to do The Pilgrim's arc" thing...at least, it was for me. I hadn't completed his arc on my character before trying to flashback for something other than a badge mission. Try that, and let me know.

    Tanks vs Brutes

    o.0

Weren't we talking about Tanks vs. Brutes?

Is there a special Smarmy Tommy Lee Jones loophole somewhere that allows Tanks to have Fury?

My SS/Inv Brute doesn't have Soul Mastery, will not ever use Gloom (I don't give a pancake what the DPS is, she's a Supergirl), and still makes my poor Tanker cry with the amount of damage she can put out while being as, if not more, survivable (even when she was level 41 and using generic IOs.)

And 'hard to kill other things'? Ever play a defender? Controller? Corruptor when the RNG is laughing at your pleas for Scourge to kick in?

And, yes, Johnny, you can quote me on all of that too.
Level 47 Cold/Ice Defender: No problems.
Level 50 Fire/Storm/Fire Controller: No problems.
Level 50 Dark/Dark/Soul Controller: No problems.
Level 50 Fire/Dark/Soul Corruptor: DEFINITELY no problems.

That about cover it? On a Manticore TF, don't forget, you've got teammates. Sure, you won't die, but...
  23. Damn flapping backpacks.

Also, yay Gun Drone change! However, I'm going to miss my "Master of Back Alley Brawler Task Force" badge. Still have my "Sister Psyche's Comrade Badge" badge, though, so that's good.
  24. No, actually, I haven't. I just assumed from the OP it was weak vs. Carnies, like most things are weak vs. Carnies.

The fact that it *isn't*, merely reinforces my point.
