I want this. So bad.
Also, I would love to see your version of Dr. Q.
*popcorn* -
So, I've gotten into a rhythm of leveling a melee character, followed by a ranged, and the rotation is now to something I haven't leveled seriously since the days of CoV's launch: a Corruptor.
I also haven't played much with Sonic (and none at all with Time), and I have an AWESOME robot/mecha costume that would work perfectly with these powersets. Plus, the -Res from Sonic goes well with Time, amirite?
I *am* having some build issues, though. To put it in context, I love to team, I level mostly through TFs but I would like the option to solo.
My questions are these:
Is Siren's Song *necessary* to solo?
Where could I find slots to slot Shockwave (and include the OF proc, of course)?
How are you supposed to slot Slowed Response? I see it's a TAoE, but I don't have slots in this build to slot what I would consider appropriately.
Right now, the build sits at 52.3 Ranged DEF (with perma-Farsight), but not-quite-perma Chrono Shift or Hasten. Is there a way to massage the DEF a little lower to perma these?
Any tidbits would be appreciated: Budget's not *really* an issue, but I'd like to keep a leveling build in mind, and work toward things like the 4 Cyto's as I hit the 40s or so.

Quote:If I'm still up and ingame (would be 11-1130 central time, I'm in St. Louis) I might could use one of my cobweb-gathering server transfers and come join you.Okay, looks like Mortimer Kal it is.
II'll see if I can start one up tonight.
Anybody who's redside on Virtue tonight & wants a run, hit me up- assuming no unforseen disasters I should be on between 9 & 9:30 PST.
Also of note: to access the Kal SF, you need to have completed the villain Morality Mission "Wizard's Weakness," which sets up the entire plot of the SF: to steal the Flames of Prometheus from Positron as a first step on your characters journey to Incarnate power.
It just so happens that Vibraflux, my Staff/SR brute, has it unlocked, so hit me up @Aurora Girl when you're ready and I'll come fire it up for you. The temp power bonus from completing the SF is a groovy +Max HP, +Regen and +Dmg buff. -
Mortimer Kal: It's fun, it's fast, it's well-written, and (for the next half-day) it's the WST!
Did it for the first time this weekend, was a blast. Plus, you get to punch Positron in the face! It's 20-40, so if you can run it with a few maxed out players it's super quick. *Much* less of a potential PITA than Admiral Sutter blueside. -
Quote:"Designed for soloing?" What? What the PANCAKE are you talking about? Every AT in this game should be able to solo content, and as far as I know, most can. (Ice controllers not withstandingTankers should not be prevented from soloing, but the AT should not be judged on it as that is not what they are for. Brutes and scrappers are designed for soloing, tankers are not.
I'm not saying that brutes are not overpowered and don't need to be nerfed. I'm just saying that tankers role is not soloing.)
My point was this: Why would you make a Tanker when a Brute, with the same powersets and slotting, can do everything the Tanker can, and do more damage? That is a problem that needs to be fixed. -
So I heard the raid last night was a little...different than usual, and I'd like to posit a guess as to why:
I wasn't there.
-
I've been mayor of Paragon (on Pinnacle, anyway) since 2005, actually.
We had an election and everything. I even had AG put on a suit and camp in City Hall just for that reason, her office was off to the left when you enter. We haven't had another election since then, so I'm still going strong! -
As for an actual answer, I personally feel the mix of what we have now (more efficient TFs like Penny Yin and revamped Posi, the SSAs being soloable or team, and well-developed meaningful arcs like Dark Astoria) is a proper mix.
Basically anything but the "run around to 10 different zones for no real reason" system from the old days. Even more arcs like the new 20ish ones introduced recently would be good, especially in the 30-40 range. Short(ish), great writing and a meaningful experience. -
Quote:The way I look at Confront for Scrappers is this: If I need to "pull" an enemy off a squishy teammate, I run over and kill whatever it is that needs to be pulled. Confront just isn't as 100% effective as a Greater Fire Sword to the face.I suspected many Brute players would chip in to say they do take Taunt, and I don't disagree with its utility. I expected more people to say they don't, though. I'm not surprised almost no-one takes Confront, which is where I want to see the most done. Taunt itself is useful for tanking on teams if that's your thing, but Confront really is limited to just catching runners (sometimes, they like to ignore it often) or pulling AN enemy of a team-mate. I've have sufficiently sturdy Scrappers and I've tried to use them to tank for my friends, but the aggro control just isn't there. Confront being single-target just doesn't do enough, so any tanking I do manage to pull off is more on the strength of Scrapper Armour damage/taunt auras.
My brute (which, as a 50 SS/Inv I'll admit is my only high-level brute) uses Taunt, even solo, to maximize the number of enemies for Invincibility (and, I'd imagine, the same goes for Willpower (RttC) and anything with a damage aura for Fury-building as well), but Scrappers can't "tank" because their damage auras do not have a Taunt mechanic by design. You have to draw aggro by doing damage and raising your threat level, and at that point whatever you're attacking is probably going to be dead anyway. -
I was gonna say...what kind of I26 meta-build have you got for that Stalker with Taunt, eh?
-
Quote:So I should "lrn2ply" then? Quit being ridiculous, you ridiculous person. Tankers shouldn't be prevented from soloing any more than a Defender. It's ludicrous to believe otherwise. My point was: my SS/Inv brute, with Taunt, can "tank" an entire 8-man spawn (definition being "control all aggro onto itself and survive"), *and* be able to do significant damage to that same spawn. That's two whole things.if you are soloing a tanker you are doing it wrong, simple as that
tankers are for teams
brutes and scrappers are for solo
heal other is a useless power when soloing, that does not mean it should be removed or altered
An equivalent Tanker can only do one of those things. This is not okay.
But as for the original topic, I find that Taunt is something that you choose to take depending on the powers and playstyle of that particular character. On my /ice tank, for example, I didn't choose Taunt because I felt the Ice auras do a good enough job maintaining aggro for me. I also have never taken Confront on any of my scrappers, as I find it superfluous and against the principle of Scrapperlock. -
Quote:I have never skipped taunt on my brutes, it's just too useful. Solo it helps me snag runners or pull the ranged enemies closer. On a team it helps me soak up aggro to build more fury. Oh, and I guess it helps my teammates live longer, whatever.
Exactly this. I took Taunt on my SS/Inv, because I knew I could survive the aggro; did not take it on my Staff/SR.
I look at building a Brute one of two ways: 1) a tanking-style with damage (SS/Inv, for example) or 2) a scrapper-style with better tanking ability (/Fire, for example).
I hate to support Johnny Butane, but the difference between my SS/Inv brute and Inv/SS tank is like night and day. The tanker just feels so...woefully underpowered. Yes, built the same way, the tanker has "more survivability" but that really doesn't matter when it takes you 10 minutes to kill the same group of enemies it takes the brute 2 minutes. -
Send me the file, I'll upload it. It's kind of my job. PM me for my email address.

When you say Ascendants...you don't mean the Council guys, right? Because that's the only thing that shows up in the wiki, and that can't be what you mean.

Quote:I've drawn the ire of Arcanaville! *shudders*So shoehorning pop culture into easily definable laws is silly, because its more properly shoehorned into internet lists.
This article, in particular, wasn't a list, per se (as most of Cracked is, yes). It was a writeup of why hipsters suck, an opinion I hold in high esteem. -
You're referring to yourself in the 3rd person now?
...oh, this should be interesting. -
"Splatroller" is something originally describing the Fire Control/Storm Summoning controller, whose powers and offensive capabilities basically involved splattering enemies all over the zone in total, epic awesomeness.
-
Quote:Is Cracked an Internet site? Yes.Does Internet pop culture qualify as real pop culture yet? And if so, wouldn't referencing cracked.com to make the point be hanging a lampshade on it?
Does their writeup of the inherent ridiculousness of the "hipster culture" function as a great beacon of hope in an otherwise daunting sea of douchebags? Yes.
Definition of HIPSTER
: a person who is unusually aware of and interested in new and unconventional patterns (as in jazz or fashion)
Origin of HIPSTER
First Known Use: 1940 -
Quote:This. Damn, dirty hipsters.Heh I've been called a "hipster" before for referring to TVTropes while in conversations. I was insulted. I am NOT a hipster, I'm a nerd
Example Conversation #3
Hipster: "Man, that episode/story arc/issue/webisode/independent film really hung a lampshade on that, didn't it?"
Normal person: "What?"
Hipster: "What do you mean, what?"
Normal person: "Hang a lampshade? What the PANCAKE are you talking about?"
Hipster: "Really? You don't know what that means?" *scoff*
From Cracked: "Hipster" is another one of those subcultures that is hard to nail down. It can refer to any number of bands, people or situations. But just like emos have bitchiness and goths have acne scarring, hipsters can generally be identified by their completely unwarranted arrogance.
While most well adjusted members of society view [pop culture] as an enjoyable addendum to life, perhaps a distraction or even a hobby, hipsters know that [pop culture] is serious business. Having been picked on since a very young age by those who found their talents lay in athletics, theythey decided the ideal place to exercise influence was in the fields of [experiencing pop culture] and putting on clothes. Most people who aren't hipsters recognize these areas as naturally subjective, and generally not worth giving much of a crap about, which allows hipsters to win the argument for the simple reason that they're the only ones who care enough to notice that it's going on.

Quote:The Awakened have a Lt. that gives a large AoE +40% To-hit buff.
That means soft-capped SR have 5% defense (aka no defense).
That means anyone with no defense get hit 90% of the time.
Everybody except controllers, or anyone else with a mez of any kind. Heck, even /SR anythings who take MA/, Dark/, EM/, or any other primary with a hard mez. -
Quote:Ah.The tropes come from many places and can be applied quite broadly. As the main page itself says: "The wiki is called "TV Tropes" because TV is where we started. Over the course of a few years, our scope has crept out to include other media. Tropes transcend television. They reflect life. Since a lot of art, especially the popular arts, does its best to reflect life, tropes are likely to show up everywhere."
Well, I'll admit I didn't actually read the page (or any of the definitions) because I feel trying to shoehorn pop culture into easily definable laws is inherently silly, but things like Godwin's Law does give me a chuckle from time to time. -
I know it may be nitpicky (but hey, isn't that the modus operandi here?), but why do people keep using these "laws" and "postulates" and "corollaries" from a website called TV Tropes?
Is City of Heroes a TV show?
I will freely admit this comment is about 40% snark, but plot/writing tropes from the television industry aren't (in my opinion as a life-long comic nerd) necessarily applicable to a superhero MMO. Comic writing tropes (retcon every three weeks, no one dies for real ever, etc.) aren't necessarily applicable either, as writing for a living, breathing ever-evolving entity like an MMO where players' personal stories are so tied into the lore as a whole is kind of its own entity. -

Booooooooooooooooo.
I may have to do something else, then.
