Next on the list: Sonic/Time

So, I've gotten into a rhythm of leveling a melee character, followed by a ranged, and the rotation is now to something I haven't leveled seriously since the days of CoV's launch: a Corruptor.

I also haven't played much with Sonic (and none at all with Time), and I have an AWESOME robot/mecha costume that would work perfectly with these powersets. Plus, the -Res from Sonic goes well with Time, amirite?

I *am* having some build issues, though. To put it in context, I love to team, I level mostly through TFs but I would like the option to solo.

My questions are these:

Is Siren's Song *necessary* to solo?
Where could I find slots to slot Shockwave (and include the OF proc, of course)?
How are you supposed to slot Slowed Response? I see it's a TAoE, but I don't have slots in this build to slot what I would consider appropriately.
Right now, the build sits at 52.3 Ranged DEF (with perma-Farsight), but not-quite-perma Chrono Shift or Hasten. Is there a way to massage the DEF a little lower to perma these?

Any tidbits would be appreciated: Budget's not *really* an issue, but I'd like to keep a leveling build in mind, and work toward things like the 4 Cyto's as I hit the 40s or so.

Unless you are using the Leaderships and others as IO mules I see this build gasping for endurance. I am currently running a Sonic/Time (Along with a few other alts) but I'm finding less need for ranged defense as I use to. Teamed or solo the baddies are either taking to long to hit me before they're "defeated" or their just about "defeated" when they get a hit on me.

Myself I went more +rech and +dmg in my build (Which I'll post at the end). One thing I felt like asking because you took and slotted heavily where as I skipped it...How is Time's Juncture helpful?!

I don't know, how do you think a -To Hit, -Damage, -Recharge aura would be helpful for a build that relies on Defense to survive?

what he means is:

Sonic is an all ranged set and he's confused as to why you'd close in on melee to use it

Because it's a great debuff? Because it stacks magnificently with defense? Because nothing in the game limits me from using my attacks while in melee range?

You mean I don't have to be 80' away to use my blasts? That's a game changer.

If you're going so far as to 6-slot Farsight for the 2.5% Ranged Defense Bonus (as well as picking up all those other Ranged Bonuses with sets like Thunderstrike, Lockdown, etc.), it seems counterproductive to fight in melee. If you're going for Farsight+Time's Juncture debuff to hit the melee softcap, then that makes sense, but it's also worth mentioning that Howl--like most cones--is a less effective attack when not used from Range. With this combo, the only (mechanical) benefit to being in melee vs. being at range is the -Dam, so it would be up to you if that's worth the trade-off (mobs tend to have a larger number of melee attacks vs. ranged attacks, and they tend to hit harder, plus you open yourself up to melee mezzes as well as ranged and AoE, yadda yadda).

I see value in both sides of the issue, but if you enjoy a playstyle wherein you scream right in people's faces (or pew pew right in people's faces), then Right On.

*chuckle*

While I appreciate the constructive criticism and understand its merits, is it so inconceivable to people that I would move in and out of melee range? Not stay stationary?

Especially for /Time, no, Siren's Song is not necessary to solo. I'd suggest taking Shockwave with the overwhelming force proc, if possible, but you probably won't need it either; Time should provide enough survivability on its own. (Of course, more AoE damage is always useful, especially when you get to some of the dark astoria missions that always spawn ridiculously large groups on you no matter what your difficulty settings are...)

The only other change I'd suggest is, based on the upcoming proc changes, you might want to consider putting a Gaussian's proc in Amplify; I haven't done the math myself, but I'm told it should have about a 90% chance to trigger (once i24 hits) - which should combine quite nicely with, for example, a soon-to-be-crashless nuke.

siren's song isn't necessary solo, but it sure is nice.. and it is a great place to drop purples for the 10% recharge set bonus. My build is older and focuses mainly on single target damage, but with the changes to nukes I will be adding dreadful wail and possibly shockwave with the KD proc.

As far as times juncture is concerned I love that power, most of the time solo I don't use the aoe slow/hold, because nothing hits me and even when it does I am constantly healing from Perma Chrono so I rarely ever see the green bar below 100%. I plan on rolling with Cardiac, but as is this build has lots of end regen, and a cost of .93 or so before cardiac, so unless I plan on chucking out a high number of distortion fields and slowed responses I don't figure it will be a huge end issue. As of right now he is 42 and is good solo and great on a team.. sonic time is a force multiplier build on teams. And just like you, I get right in the thick of melee and really don't sweat it..

Here's my build built for playing at 50:

How is it helpful?

I don't know, how do you think a -To Hit, -Damage, -Recharge aura would be helpful for a build that relies on Defense to survive?
My apologize for the slow response, lack of interwebs does that. and theduke24 reworded my question pretty nicely.

I guess when it all comes to playstyle. I have a couple "ranged" alts that blast baddies up the nose, but when I was building and toying with the sonic/time I just found that I was more useful in the back a bit letting the baddies either SLOWLY run at me to get in range of hitting me, or debuff the heck out of them so my team can mop up. /Time is a great playstyle variant powerset. It allows players to be either the sit back and blast or in the face kind of player. I have a Grav/Time troller in the middle of every fight...with Juncture running the entire time.

As mentioned I'd try to cap S/L and melee def if you plan on being in the thick of things, But I wish you luck in your screaming adventures. Give'em an earful.
