Quote:They're safe from removal cause the devs/CS don't have the manpower to properly police it. they don't want to take the chance that what I bolded from your post happens again. And since they don't have the manpower to play every arc that's reported before they remove it, I think they've pretty much given up.I don't know if you remember, but after Positron's rant there was quite a bit of paranoia about anything that could even be misconstrued as a farm, including arcs with animals on a farm or meta-humor arcs about farming...IIRC some of these were actually flagged and removed as farms, even though they weren't. The only reason farms aren't removed anymore is because CS just doesn't care anymore, I think, or because nobody bothers to report them. They've given up. Saying "they're safe from removal" is kinda like saying it's ok to litter because there aren't any cops around to give you a ticket.

Quote:the bolded part is where you (and most of this part of the forum) and I STRONGLY, EPICLLY disagree. To me, the TICKETS sent to you when someone plays and likes you are are the REWARD for people who put time and effort into creating a mission that is enjoyed by the player.Ethically, I dont see any difference in downvoting farms or downvoting well thought out and written stories. If it aint your cup of tea, it aint your cup of tea.
I understand that the rating system is meant to reward people who put time and effort into creating a mission that is enjoyed by the player. However, once again, something the devs created with a purpose in mind has been redefined by the playerbase. If farmers wish to reward a farm mission with a vote, so be it. To 1 star it on the principal that its a farm, so it must suck is no different as 1 staring a mission/arc because it is too long, and therefore must be boring.
For what it is worth, most people that create farms that I know of, usually request that it not be voted. They dont want the publicity. As such, you are likely doing the majority a favor.
To me the star system was put in to let folks know whether a story is good or not. Mind you it's failed in this matter, but it's the only system we have that vaguely gives you and idea how many folks liked an ACTUAL arc.
it's also why I think it was a TERRIBAD idea that the devs linked getting more arc slots (as an author) to getting things like Hall of Fame or Dev's Digest.
I know folks will disagree, but that's my opinion. The star system was meant to help the in-game pop in deciding which arcs to play, not to reward authors. -
Quote:And yet another reason why the stars system needs to go. If there isn't a valid way to tell whether an arc is good by looking at it's description and community feedback then it leaves the potential to piss off folks who many want to try legitimate arcs for RP.I stopped writing arcs for similair resons as above and the fact that I will never ever be able to write it in correct English. Having had many comments saying: nice arc, shame about the bad english and that is after having it proofread by somebody a few times. Thus my conclusion that I better stop writing completely.
About rating things, Supafreak convinced me to change my criteria. 5 Stars would be, I am blown away. 4 stars was a good job indeed, I had good fun.
From now on it will be 5, 1 or nothing. I want to encourage authors and by no means I want to discourage somebody with a rating that makes him feel sad.
If a person sees an arc is rated at 5 stars, they expect it to not only be good, but be excellent. If they go in and it littered with things that might have made it a 4, 3, or 2 star arc and yet it was rated a 5 (or a 1), this might make the "reader" suspect of the whole system. And thus, in combination with the horrid search system, might drive folks AWAY from the AE system.
If folks want to always give 5 stars so that the AUTHORS don't feel bad that's fine. But keep in mind that that may drive more PLAYERS away from the system. Which also potentially spreads bad word of mouth about AE, and thus makes getting ANY plays even harder.
Yes the star system is bad, however until the devs FIX IT, by nuking it from orbit, people might be doing more of a disservice to the system. Do we want more authors to get 5 stars or do we want more people using the AE, thus justfiying more resources being spent.
Keep in mind an arc with a lot of 5 stars may be very still NEVER be seen due to the volume of arcs in the system in general. So . . . I'm not really sure what 5 staring ever arc accomplishes other than making the authors feel good. And if it's only the author's feelings we care about then I see the entire system as a pointless endeavor.
EDIT: Keep in mind you did say you give 5, 1, or nothing. So kudos for that. I just don't agree that there's no middle ground between those. -
Quote:That would be a retarded fix as it would just shift the farming to the next "resistant" set. As there S/L, Energy resistant farms in existence. In a sense, the fire farms are a good thing for a very subtle reason: if they are *this* prevalent, it suggests the farmers out there haven't come up with anything better to exploit. To be honest, the idea of filling a custom group with nothing but comm officers (or immunes surgeons before that), or filling maps with mastermind "bosses" (which were really no stronger that lt's but gave boss-class XP) always struck me as somewhat clever. Unethical, but clever. (Hey, I loathe cheating and cheaters, but that doesn't stop me from being able to recognize when the method of the cheating is somewhat clever.)
On the other hand, the concept of a fire farm is so stupidly obvious that it really doesn't require any cleverness, creativity, or intelligence to think up. Heck, the entire time I was leveling up Pro Payne, it was really obvious to me that if I wanted to be really lame about it and just get him to 50 ASAP, all I had to do is fill a huge map with a bunch of mobs that do fire damage and basically have no real defense. I would have felt like a lazy slob for doing it, but I did know it was an option.
What I'm interested in seeing is if the developers ever do something about this. While I doubt it (I think they've given up on trying to do anything about the farms, and their disgust with the phenomenon has probably led them to ignore AE completely), I wouldn't be totally surprised if one day the alpha values for every fire-related power you can give to a custom mob would be reset to 0.
Basically as long as there are powersets that can get 50% or more resistance to any one damage type, those type of farms are never going away.
It would take a fundamental change to how resistance works. -
Cross server teaming. It would solve some of the problems with pvp, the trials, zone events, etc.

Great film. Especially when they are learning to control their abilities.
This is kind of how I expected them to do the first X-Men movie.
Waiting to see where they take the sequel. -
Quote:Yet. . .I wish they'd focus more on the costume designer and super group base building system, its the only real thing other than the AE that CoX has better than the competition.
Particularly the base building, neither competing game has that.
I don't think we'll be seeing any major push into base building or large amounts of FREE, non-content-gated, non booster pack costumes anytime soon.

Quote:And yet with the rate I've been seeing from various players, I'd call the Uncommons common, and the common uncommon. The game does not decide that those with higher participation scores get better loot. If you dont get the 10 thread reward, you get a random table reward. Commons and uncommons are for some reason more common than rares and very rare rewards are .... well um ... very rare. So if you are getting something other than 10 threads the GAME has decided your participation is enough to not give you the booby prize. What you get from there is random.
Also the fact that the devs admitted that the system had error which was weighting uncommons more before one or two patches ago.
So yeah, I'd buy that the participation system is working 100% as intended. It may be intended for it to be random, but I DO NOT believe for a second that it's working 100% bug free. -

Quote:Unless the villain is as insane as the Joker . . . who would use it as soon as possible. But ofcourse if you're Batman you'd get there in time.Always in motion is the future.
Again, a hero can't let 5 people in arm's reach die because of what might happen tomorrow.
Just because baddies have a nuke doesn't mean they'd use it immediatley. There'd probably be enough time to stop them. -
Quote:You laugh, but if you read the thread in the AE forums you'll see you pretty much close to the truth.Profane or copywritten: an arc I had been working on is no longer even testable because half of my character/contact's name "Sakura" was copywritten material. I wonder what other common names are considered copywritten now? How about Saladin? Or Dean? Oh, I know, let's just say John, Dick, and Harry are RIGHT OUT!

Quote:Was about to post the not sure if serious pic, but then i remembered who this is. Bravo. If I'd designed the Incarnate System...
* It would be available from first level because... umm... I don't have a 50th level character.
* It would have deeply involved the gods and actual mythology... although getting Aphrodite and similar dieties to obey the Teen rating may have been tricky.
* Three words: Spreadsheet Booster Pack.
* In any way employing the Incarnate system automatically enters you in my Tournament complete with automatic scoring of your character and world-wide comparison with all other Tournament characters.
* Changes in the Tournament rules will result in complete deletion of ALL tournament characters and a world-wide "reset."
* Would not have set much of the Incarnate System in Praetoria since you are kicked out of Praetoria at 20th level so NO Praetorian can actually ever qualify for the existing Incarnate System. -
Quote:I actually expected us to deal with the Coming Storm BEFORE jumping back into Goatee Universe, seeing as how . . . well . . . the storm has been coming forever now.Um... Doesn't Prometheus pretty much tell you that after you've dealt with Tyrant, eventually you'll be dealing with The Coming Storm? Isn't this pretty much what everyone who has been semi-following the lore is expecting? I didn't read it as any claim to inside knowledge.
With that said, Prometheus (aka known as the devs telling us via in-game text) does spell out what comes next.
Sooooo . . . we can expect the Coming Storm in another year or two or three . . . -
Quote:What would be required? Just to email you builds?Hello,
I was thinking about making a build depository using the google docs and allowing everyone access to them. I was planning on checking the forums for builds and just reposting them after I get permission into the depository. Would anyone be interested in helping with this endeavor? Any thoughts or comments are also welcomed.
Let me know what the email address for this is. -
*use of a USENET originating expression that means the thread is found to be humorous, preferably in all caps*
*followed by sentence explaining that humorous thread is humorous* -
Quote:Yeah. You are entirely correct. However a lack of threads about it doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't wanted by at least some portion of the population. There will always be a portion of the population that wants more and more challenge and power. The thing is that prior to the Incarnate system this desire expressed itself in other ways. There is a portion of the player base that has amused itself by engaging in self-made challenges such as soloing AVs, Pylons and task forces, or experimenting with AE challenge arcs. The reason you never really saw many threads requesting it is that the people who wanted it either found something else to amuse themselves with or moved onto other games. It's the same reason you see so few "fix PvP" threads nowadays, it isn't that nobody wants PvP fixed it's that the people who were vocal about it moved on. In general you tend not to see threads asking for major system changes (such as adding a raid system) simply because the people who are vocal about asking for it are unlikely to play a game that doesn't have it.
Personally my view is that the Incarnate content is something new to do with my level 50s that doesn't involve exemplaring them down. I enjoy playing my 50s so more content for them is something I really like.
I think something that needs to be pointed out is the Raiding does not automatically equal endgame. The fact that the devs choose to focus on them first was a choice. They could very easily come up with a different system.
The fact that most other games have raids might have been a factor. But by no means is it the only type of endgame you can have. Hopefully once there are enough raids, we'll get some other types in a timely fashion. -
Quote:While the Goatee Universe lovefest is on, I wouldn't expect a fix in a time frame that is fast in any way shape or form.Or have corrupted enemies in it being replaced with a 5th column Mekman or a Hydra? How quickly would you expect the problem to be fixed? How much dev feedback would you expect to see on the topic?
This is a very rough estimate of what happened to the Mission Architect with the 4/26 patch which made dozens of common and/or CoH-related words invalid, or technically "profanity or copyright detected". So far we have seen one post saying that they are aware of the problem. One week later we saw another post saying that there is still no ETA other than "soon". Another week later there's a post saying that some of the problems were fixed, which turned out to be false. Another week and a half later and at least 13 words are cleared up, though it seems like not many more than those 13. And now over a month later, we're only in slightly better shape than we were before. -

Quote:/e yawwwwwn. I just got tired reading everything you just posted.Actually over the last week or so of discussing this with people its become apparent that people don't use the word reboot exactly correctly when it comes to DCU...
The DCU has never had an actual reboot. It has had retcons and a setting of official canon as well as removing other canon.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was more a story line reason for focusing only on the modern age and defining what is actually canon... It did not reboot the DCU... especially since it just set the timeline to Y10.
Zero Hour while the story did reboot within itself, it simply defined Y100+ and retconned some problems and since again it didn't start telling stories at Y0 it was not a reboot
Infinite Crisis reintroduced the things eliminated in CoIE in a more organized way and with a organized multiverse...
Anyways the "New DCU" has me interested in what they mean and makes me wonder if they are going to reveal what they have been hinting at for a while... that the 52 universes and the infinite multiverse is actually just one layer within a mega infinite multiverse...
They hinted at it at the end of 52, they pretty much stated it in Blackest Night, one of the major writers hinted at it while answering a question, and I doubt they launching 52 issue #1s by coincidence.
How about a suggestion for both Marvel and DC: STOP resetting/rebooting/restarting/triming down/whatever the hell you want to call it everything. Just tell good stories and let some history build for a year or two at least. That way character actions and deaths actually have consequences.
Till then I've stopped taking either universe seriously. As far as I'm concerned both universes are no better than fan fiction going forward. -
Quote:Using the trials to unlock alpha is a waste of time and threads. It's faster to do the Ramiel arc, then do some trials. You will have alpha open and slotted. If all you're talking about is unlocking the Alpha, sure, Ramiel's arc is faster. If you are talking about unlocking and actually slotting your Alpha, then the trials win by a wide margin.
I wouldn't recommend to anyone to use the trials to unlock alpha. -
Quote:I personally couldn't care less about any of the costume pieces. Any of them. I'm arguing for what I feel is best for the game overall. I don't think emotes and Aura have anything to do with being an incarnate. YMMV.Why? Because you don't care so much for tier 3ing out a character but you do about costume pieces? Okay, swap it around. Oops, now you have the "character progress!!!" screamers agitated. In the end, it's all just rewards. It could have just as easily been market slots, inventory slots, character slots, costume slots, a piece of swag they put in a box and physically mail to you, Matt and Melissa recording your voice mail greeting, whatever. No matter what you gate, people are going to complain, and I'm sorry, but I simply disagree that gating nothing is a reasonable solution. If there's nothing to earn, there's no reason to play.
Then use Empyrians for that stuff instead of wasting them on the stuff you can unlock with Astrals.
If the cost were per character, I'd agree with you. As it is, with it unlocking it account-wide on all characters, I think this is unreasonably low.
The Ascension Armor is fine. Many people (in the feedback thread) agree that they should be locked but the prices are on them should be reduced. 25 emp per piece is asinine.
Emotes and Aura are not things that should be locked behind being an incarnate. There is nothing special about the pieces the screams incarnate.
I'd suggest you take a look at the feedback thread. -
Quote:Emotes, Auras, and Emblems should be 1 emp at most. Happily there is a thread where most are saying the same thing I just did in the beta forums.Misleading FTL.
It only costs 150 Emps for the glowy Acension armor.
It costs 401 for:
Glowy Armor
Basic Armor
14 Auras
11 Emblems
9 Emotes
To get the entire set of glowy armor only costs 150 (at these current placeholder prices). If you want EVERYTHING else as well as the glowy armor, it's 401.
