Quote:DFBabies have Jack pancake to do with the help channel being complete and utter **** now. It would be **** with the existence of Freedom and way freems are channel limited, even if DFB were never in existence.I wouldn't mind the DFBabies if they hadn't made the help channel completely ineffective for it's intended use. I used to stay in the help channel in order to, well, provide help to those who needed it. Now it's impossible to use it for that purpose.
Other than that they don't affect my play. But the ARE robbing themselves of the rest of the game by mindlessly running DFB. -
Quote:I know, hence my smilies.Sure I understood that. My point is that not only is there still that 10% chance (after 100,000) that you won't get it but there's also technically a chance that you could get it after the first pack.
Obviously there's a way you can improve your odds, but there are -no- guarantees either way. Ultimately I was sort of making a little joke about it because even though I want the Black Wolf I don't really want to spend hundreds of dollars for it and -still- not get it.
At least I could go to eBay and directly buy that Black Lotus if I wanted to... -
-
Quote:I think the point Katie was making was that if you want a chance of closer to 90% to get it, buy 100,000.Right and I'm not counting on being as lucky as that guy I mentioned in beta either. I guess if you have to roll like 1 in an 1000 to get it it may always still be possible to get it sooner than later anyway. *shrugs*
Again I just don't like the uncertainty...

Quote:then just let folks BUY the costume sets outright. What you just posted is illogical in the face of them not selling them outright. The folks who won't spend 80 points on a pack have already said they'd spend 400-800 on the costume set.I think they'll cave on this eventually but personally, I don't think it's a big deal, for two reasons.
1. Costume pieces and other items are sometimes gated, either behind content, reward tiers, and now super packs. It will make the company some extra money, and in City of Heroes we're seeing lenient trade-offs compared to the historically unfair F2P model; especially when you consider that anyone who spent a few dollars probably has most of the costume set now. By my third super pack, I had most of the set.
2. The real offender in this case isn't City of Heroes. It's the entire F2P model. This is what it looks like. If this [above quote] would make any of you angry, then you may as well start preparing to get angry. At the entire MMO industry. Even if you get your concession this time, the F2P model will eventually gate some other simple purchase behind complicated purchasing obstacles. At some point, Paragon Studios will not be able to cave to your demands and also remain fiscally responsible.
The F2P model is a response to the crappy global economy, in my opinion. It isn't here so that we can have freebies. It's a backwards kind of subsidizing model, where a small portion of willing customers pays for ALL of us to enjoy the game. There's a price tag on F2P, but the alternative is worse: watching the MMO market lose publishers and investors.
Notice how we seem to be getting MORE issues and other updates since Freedom went live? Someone has got to pay for that, or else it blatantly, honestly, realistically can't exist. The fewer of you who pay that price, the higher the price will rise for those who do; and the more tricks Marketing will have to foist on those doing the subsidizing. It's not because they're meanies. It's because we're all backed into a corner right now.

Quote:No thanks, I'll just spend my extra points when I have extra on them.I bought only 5 packs to give it a try since I had more than 3.000 points.
I got all the costume pieces, I think only the boots left.
I think you guys should stop complain and give them a try.
I got the belt and the shoulder piece (the pieces I was more intereset of) in the first pack!
Cant wait for next round of super packs!
But Seeing as how there are two new sets coming that WON'T be free for VIPs I'll probably end up spending extra monthly points left over on superpacks sometimes in 2018.
Everyone else have fun.
Your money helps fund items that make the game better so buy as money as you want. mauahahahahhahahhaa, errr, I mean, yay! -
Quote:The fact that I don't trust how my fellow players would vote about what gets done with the AE makes me all the more happy that Zwill has said some things are not up for a vote.I am all for a poll, but I doubt the devs will touch the AE any time in the near or distant future.
As they shouldn't be. -
Quote:Good points. Just keep mind anything that requires destroying the current bases is out of the question.Good post with several valid points. Since you asked me specifically, I'll respond one last time (this subject is near and dear to my heart but I don't want to threadjack this too much... we can take this to the base construction forum if you wish).
First off, there are lots of bad consequences from a "systems" perspective with continuing with the status quo. With mounds of prestige piling up with absolutely nothing to spend it on but decorating, nobody should be surprised that mansions of glory have spung up everywhere consuming considerable server resources. Next, add in limited storage capacity and next to nothing in terms of supergroup activities and rewards and people (especially the devs) should expect major growth in solo bases. And, I'm sorry but, it will take more than banning offine sg invites to stem this tide which is another "bad thing" according to the devs. The "do nothing" alternative is not really as attractive as it might first appear.
I'm going to forego the temptation to list bullets (again) to answer the question of what I'm looking for. Suffice to say that has been done many times over... mostly to no avail (although many of the included ideas are quite good; see base construction forum stickies). Ultimately, what I'm really looking for is a change in mindset. I'm looking for a dev that won't do "the pained eye roll" every time you mention bases face to face. I'm looking for a dev that can look beyond liability and see opportunity. I'm looking for a dev that sees that supergroups tie in very nicely to the lore of comics in general and can tie in nicely to the lore of this game. There once was such a "vision". But it's been warped by players after being largely abandoned by the devs. I'm looking for it to come back. Will it? I dunno.
And with that, I'm out. -
Quote:Ehhh, I don't really know how effective limited time offer is for something that is totally digital.Firstly, "The customer is always right." is nonsense. In fact, the customer is often an idiot.
Secondly, limited time offers appear in many industries and they are effective.
Having made those points, IN THIS SITUATION, I feel the limited time offer makes no sense. We're not talking about a Santa suit, a Pilgrim outfit, a Jack-O-Lantern head - we're talking about street clothing. These are items that would make sense to wear 365 days of the year.
with that said i don't have any issues with this pack, anything in it or anything else. Then again costumes don't get my ire up as things which actually affect game play.
That could also be that I'm used to the Paragon Market sucking PANCAKE. I have nearly 2700 points sitting there unused and not expecting anything done with the market to got towards its use.
/shrug.
EDIT: Also agreeing that I don't see how anything in there counts as Valentine's day pack. -
Meh, no use complaining about this further. Not like I care about holiday missions anyway.
-
Play the game the way you want and don't tell or dictate how others play.

this thread delivers!
I like the idea of having BOTH new maps and new zones! -
Quote:I don't believe we'll ever see this. When COV was on the way many folks claimed that Scrappers would be rarely seen or used by players in the game, due to Brutes.Dead end? No. Out of line with the rest of the AT's and the game? Most certainly. This is why it is imperative that the developers address this in the same manner they've addressed the others. Otherwise, what you stated may end up being true and tankers could quite possibly end up being a rarely seen or used by players in the game.
We see how that worked out.
People make hyperbolic statements all the time. Luckily for this game 95% of them NEVER come true. -
Quote:Or simply avoid playing that arc if you think 20 hours is pure idiocy. BTW i think the bug was that it was meant to be 20 minutes not 20 hours. Not like there's ever been a decimal point missed before. . . oh wait.So much for 20 hours of real time as once purported. I logged in Friday afternoon around 5PM, to find no more debuff. I initially received it Thursday night around 10:30 PM or so, at which point I continued to play on for another hour and half with it. Some 18.5 hours later, gone, cya, buh-bye, debuff was gone and no longer affecting my character. As I said before, this is nothing but a nuisance, nothing more. People want to blow it completely out of proportion, just as you said.
I guess what it comes down to is that people want to play without having any negatives or penalties if they mess something up. For me, I overcame the problem, adapted my play, and motored on without any further problems. If others are not capable of doing such a thing, then they should not play the mission arc. All they miss is the mission badge, no big deal. For those who do, the badge is the reward for completing it successfully with or without the dreaded debuff of doom.

Everyone has choices. Isn't that a wonderful thing. -

E. solidly.
Inf does NOT stay liquid in my hands for long. I usually instantly build a new "super" build when I get in the billion range.
On a related note If you were to count stuff folks slotted, that total inf count with just forum accounts I'd bet would be A LOT higher.
but I get why you are counting it the way you are. -
And THIS is also why this thread is awesome. I just learned something new. never noticed that there was a /vault command. I honestly only knew about /auctionhouse.

Quote:There is PLENTY I disagree with in this post (the tone I'm getting from Sam is not the same you are) but as to the bolded this is sound advice. By doing that over a period of 3-six months I can now build out a frankslotted toon, mid-tier toon, or optimal set bonuses to the gils toon in my head without needing mids. Then you are looking at it the wrong way. If someone posts you a build and says put it in MIDs, do so. Then study what they did. Look at each set they used. Then go research them on Paragonwiki. By researching and studying builds like this you can teach yourself how to slot your character that fits your playing style. The best way for this is to learn from what others have done. You may find someone's build that is a close representation of your own playing style or vision of what you are looking to do with your character. This is the beauty of MIDs; it literally helps you design a character's ability and enhancing them so you can maximize their potential.
You do not have to use what they give you. Most of the time when someone posts a build for another it is an example of what he or she recommended. The truth of the matter is what works for one may not work for another person. Therefore, study what others have done to reach their goals. Then adapt it to your mindset and make it your own.
I am sure if your learning something in a classroom setting or on the job training you would not respond in the manner as you did above. The most foolish thing anyone can do is not look at the results of someone else's work, study it, and then take from it what they can to make better. However, after studying something, you do not feel that is for you, then you move on.
If you truly want to do what you stated originally in this post, then you will be more open and receptive to these types of ideas. However, you are still a bit defensive about this inasmuch you don't want to do what others are doing. That is what I read from your replies so far.
It takes time but studying what others do DOES help TREMENDOUSLY. -
Quote:Warhsade's Dwarf form also has a Siphon-Life like attack. Makes it a very survivable off-tank form.Again, you have a damaging self heal, infact you have one of the only ones in the game.
Midnight Grasp is your t9, Smite is your t2, siphon life is your t5.
I would strongly reccomend using the chain I mentioned above, MG>SL>Smite (t9>t2>t5>repeat). You will probably need more recharge to do this but you will increase your damage output by quite a bit as well as your survivability. Integrating Siphon Life into your chain will keep you at higher health so you don't come across points when you *need* to use SL, leaving those situations to respites and sturdies. -
Quote:I think that's cause not enough people tested it. I certainly didn't. Then again I'm a crumudggen who doesn't give a rat's pancake about holiday missions.I thought the very same thing and bugged it in Beta (the internal code actually had 27 hours). But a redname said, no, it was meant to be 20 hours. Those who got botched! in Beta reported that it did go away the next day. No one reported doubled up or indefinitely long botches.

I watched it during forum maint.
Warwitch stopped by for a bit before running off to a meeting. Then Dr. Aeon came by. Nothing really blockbuster about what's going on in the game. They are both continuing to work on their respective areas: Warwitch managing the teams and Aoen doing story work. Shocking.
They also talked about gamer safety: not sharing passwords, keeping your drivers and antivirus up to date, etc.
Finally, Zwill showed off his new macbook air that he got with part of his tax return (yes he and Bianca actually discussed this.)
There was probably other stuff I forgot if anyone wants to chime in. -
Quote:20 hours is WORSE than anything you posted. After reading about this and the dismay that followed, I took up this mission last night with the sole purpose of botching it. For good measure, I did so twice before finally completing it.
For reference: I used my 41st level Electric Armor/Energy Melee tanker. I did so because he is an endurance pig. The only thing I had to compensate for was my loss of endurance. I turned off either my sprint or my Lightning Field.
After completing the ritual, I took on the Carnies for the arrow and Countess Crey for the bow. When it was all said and done, I completed both missions in less than 5 minutes. The longest part of both was taking down the Countess and her four waves of reinforcements.
I breezed through the Grandville, pausing only to pose for a couple of pictures. I snapped one picture with that gawd awful 'I love myself' statue of Recluse in the background and one on his left shoulder with his head behind me. Afterwards, and for good measure I cleared the field of all the baddies save that of Red Widow. Nailed her with the arrow, done. Love re-established. Woohoo!
I do not know what the big deal is about this 'botched ritual' temp power. The only noticeable issue, my endurance, I compensated for that. Otherwise, it really did not affect me afterwards. I went on to complete the mission arc for Maxwell Christopher and four missions for Janet Kellum. I believe this is no worse than the Wasting Disease, Crey Narcotic, or receiving The Fool from Mystic Fortune. Truthfully, this is blown out of proportion. "Oh no, I received botched ritual! I'm done for!" Bah...so what.
Also I have a feeling it was a decimal error and shouldn't last 20 hours.
As others have said there is chance for it to BUG OUT and last MORE than 20 hours.
With the bug noted i have feeling it was actually meant to be 20 minutes.
Pay attention next time when you participate in a thread. -
Quote:The easiest solution is not to play the mission. Problem solved. And really... are the ones complaining about a gimped character for 20 hours completely alt-less? They can't play another toon for the rest of the night?
That's the easiest solution. Power gamers have Empowerment Stations and crafting the End-buffing Temp Power and Geas and binds for combining inspirations into Ends to offset the debuff. -
I prefer the term "dumb as dirt" in this situation other than incompetent, Sam.
But YMMV.
