I noticed that. GAHHH, stupid forum software. -

Question:
What if someone wants to get at player-made missions right at Level 1? Especially redside, where just getting from Fort Darwin to the Port Oakes ferry would be nearly impossible for a Level 1 character. Well, probably excepting Stalkers, of course.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, any villain can do it. i just consider row versus wade. A bit slow and tedious, but it's easy at level 1 to reach the ferry, albeit soggy. Or i could spend 15-20 minutes killing stuff around the fort to get a couple levels and then just run through most of the island.
[/ QUOTE ]
HUH?!?! What does this have to do with row vs wade? I assume you mean rowing like a boat and wading, like walking slowly into the water and not Roe v. Wade supreme court case? Either way I have no clue what you are talking about.
I like the idea, but I would say since AE is virtual missions, put AE in Pocket D. It will make it easy for everyone to get to, esp if you have the VIP pass, put some traffic in PD and get farmers out of newbie zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
as long as everyone is then given the VIP pass or it kills the "devs want you to able to play in the MA from lvl 1" if you'd like.
I'll keep stating that till they announce it's no longer one of their goals with AE. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's the POINT, moving them out of the starter zonesYou aren't going to get rid of them, but forcing a move would be very nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Devs said they want folks to be able to use the AE from lvl 1.
/unsigned for that reason alone.
EDIT: With that said, if they allowed us to build an AE terminal in SG bases, then I'd be all for removing them from the starter zones. -
[ QUOTE ]
I like your suggested idea, Geko. It covers a nice area for ratings.
[/ QUOTE ]
Geko's suggestion.
And NO, for the last time, you should not be forced to play an entire arc to be able to rate it. -
[ QUOTE ]
On the subject of power customization, I'd like to just have "skins" for powers, which do the same thing. For instance:
Fire blast customizations: Acid blast, Nanite blast, Atomic blast (not Radiation, that's different)
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm thinking one hack that they might be possible to do is:
fire blast_red
fire blast_blue
fire blast_white
fire blast_black
keep it to the most logical colors a power might have and it could be a bit easier.
The issue would be:
1. Would take insane amounts of manpower. Which they might have now based on Posi's comments.
2. It could NOT be part of the character creator screen without that screen becoming a monster screen that would require EPIC amounts of scrolling downward or to the right.
It would probably have to be something you can do AFTER you create your character, by then going to a contact in game or in the tutorial.
In that new screen they can list all the types of colors and have nothing else but that (no enh displayed, no real numbers, etc). -

[ QUOTE ]
Honestly, with the upgrades we have had, this is very nearly CoH 2.0
Get true power customisation and we would be there.
(old topic I know, but that is the only really big thing left out there to do)
[/ QUOTE ]
yep.
[/ QUOTE ]
yep. wouldn't shock me to hear about some very limited power cust before year's end. -
[ QUOTE ]
These changes are going to completely destroy my custom bosses. I wanted a good story that was soloable by any AT and I think I managed a pretty good balance...Now I'm going to have to completely gut them to keep the solo for squishies, and that will completely kill any challange for more solid ATs.
Now I'm starting to be pretty glad the arc didn't actually get flagged as Dev's Choice when the badge was awarded to me. It would be a disaster.
[/ QUOTE ]
THIS sums up the OTHER inherent problem with this patch.
EDIT: If I were them I WOULD NOT push the custom changes, until they can get a system that's an actually GOOD stop gap to letting us select powers individually. Not a ham-fisted solution.
From reading this thread some of this stuff is just off the freaking wall.
And at first I thought just BU/AIM was the only problem. Sheesh!

I stayed for a while, just standing near the lvl 1 plain looking spammer and watched as he spammed, changed name and @global 4 more times!
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a heck of a bug. Good catch! And I concur -- I'd PM a dev or two for sure.
[/ QUOTE ]
oh hell yeah!
That's not something you wait on CS to get on. I would send that directly to a dev or two also.
The implications of that are scary. -

200 tickets you mean? They fall like rain. 1000, perhaps. Or 2k.
I *am* for adding them to vetran rewards, but I also am for paying for them. It IS true that some people have more money than others, but frankly, I'm a *better writer* than most and should I have the money I'd love to be able to put out more than 3 silly, or serious, or whatever arcs at a time.
Also, there's really nothing against someone helping another person who's got a great idea and can't put it out, if they don't have a slot open. Publishing it *for* them, perhaps.
Of course, it'd be much better if we could *gift things* via paypal here...
[/ QUOTE ]
No h e means merits. The stuff you get from tfs. THOSE certainly DON'T fall like rain. -

The ranged attack bit only stops the "flying blaster" farmer. Were that many people doing this particular technique?!?
[/ QUOTE ]
The flying blaster farmer was an actual exploit.
I don't agree with the OP in many points, I really hope his post does not become a sticky, but he is right in one thing: farming is not an issue.
Exploiting MA "features" for unfair advantage is. I consider being able to create missions that contain pure XP bonus foes such a situation. I am not sure if its possible off the bat, but no critter should give xp bonuses IF they are used in custom groups. Their XP bonuses should remain only within their original groups.
I am not sure if i consider missions that are pure bosses to be an issue as long as these bosses are not being farmed by some one within pure safety (like a flying blaster vs pure meleers, or purely passive allies with buffing toggles abuses)
Farming in and onto itself is ok as long as the system does not allows the farmer to do ridiculous things that end up messing up the market.
[/ QUOTE ]
This thread has been pretty good.
I also think these are some pretty good suggestions. -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, in some other MMO's the devs interact even MORE strongly with their playerbase, But I guess with a playerbase of around 300 people, you kinda have to.
Especially if you are counting on them to provide artwork and other stuff to try and make your game bigger :P
[/ QUOTE ]
GASP!
What if one day the devs allow us to create maps that way?
Such as creating the art assets and then sending it to them, for them to construct the maps?
Thus they would be able to get around the whole problems of opening up custom maps, since THEY would still be creating the spawn points, but we would just be creating the look?
*ponders*

My rule of thumb: Can a defender or squishy toon do this arc from mission one to five, without any help?
If not, then I would state: some ATs might need help. -

However, I'll bet anything if someone figured out how to earn 100 merits per minute, the devs would drop a hammer on that activity even if the averages for that activity were fine. But I can't say what the lower limit is: that's where judgement comes in.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes that was my point though no judgment needed. Just tell people what the acceptable limits are. Then instead of punishing content punish rewards.
Currently what we have are the equivalent of unpublished speed limits with random penalties and group retaliation. You did 51 in a 40 zone, we are going to burn your cul de sac to the ground and build a mini mall.
[/ QUOTE ]
I understand your point, which is that in your opinion everything should just be precisely defined. My point is that no game designer would hold themselves to that limitation, and the merit system is an example of that. You quoted the merit system first, and implied that it was a system where judgement isn't used. I'm saying it is used. Simply stating that its not necessary isn't an argument, its simply redeclaring your position. The merit system doesn't actually support your position, which is why I question your mentioning it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Especially since the devs have basically stated that they will up or lower merit rewards on a constant basis. they have already done it once.
The example of using merits was the WORST example to use if you want to talk about the devs defining exactly what is an acceptable level of rewards, cause the rewards of the merit system ARE SO NOT set in stone.
If a new activity is found that allows you to get 200 merits in a 30 minutes, you can bet your [censored] that the devs are redefining that reward/content. -

[ QUOTE ]
it wouldn't hurt for the devs to interact with the playerbase and let them know that the devs know the difference between people and missions that pursue XP and those that break the rules.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, it would. Because everyone who currently thinks they can't tell the difference, or believe if the devs act in a way contrary to their desires it must be due to lack of understanding, won't be convinced by anything the devs say. But it will open them to the additional charge that silence equals acquiesence or agreement with whoever calls them out.
Which is why calling them out is explicitly against the forum rules, by the way. To ensure dev silence cannot be interpreted as anything other than nothing.
I don't need the devs to tell me they are aware of the difference between extended play and reward exploit any more than I need them to notify me on a regular basis they are aware of the day of the week or the color of the sky. Perhaps my willingness to skip the stupid questions allows me to get the smarter ones answered at a higher rate than average.
I doubt the devs are going to pull the plug on XP in the MA any time soon. That decision was not made trivially in the first place. But even if they did, it would not be due to their lack of understanding of the facts, but rather a disagreement over their significance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow - I am so disappointed in you Arcanaville - not saying this because you care what I think, only because I am so floored because I normally find your posts so wise and intelligent. Wow.
I am chalking this up to the fact that even the person with the most to offer can have one inexplicable skeleton in their closet - like Einstein, being an awesome scientist, and yet still refusing to believe in Quantum Physics because it conflicted with his religious beliefs.
Wow.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually her post was SPOT on. The devs have more important things to do than state the obvious. Anyone who thinks their silence means they endorse farming or that they are going to get rid of xp from the MA anytime soon is a flipping moron. End of story. -

As I was reading over some of the issue 14 beta posts it occured to me that we may see some attitude shifts in regards to PvP in the not to distant future.
People will be building new arcs and many will be using their own characters as EBs/AVs in those arcs. I wonder if this will help people get over the mental hurdle that many have in regards to getting beat by an opponent that isn't just AI. Granted, it's still controlled by AI, but it will be their build, and is something they are familiar with.
I don't know, just a thought. With MA and the new PvP IOs, we might be seeing more RPers in PvP soon. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
MA could have been a boon for pvp, but there are a bunch of disconnected cords in the dev's brains. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
MA could have eventually been a way to create custom pvp maps, or make real bank missions where rather than npc's trying to stop the villains - heroes actually show up. yada yada.
But in the exact same issue that MA was originally going to be launched they shut off their brains and decided to make pvp follow a completely different set of rules than the pve game. They have done a great job ensuring that no bridge between pve and pvp can ever be built now.
Generally you don't look for ways to alienate and drive systems apart, but they did.
[/ QUOTE ]
lol the systems for pvp and pve were already apart. Issues 13 and 14 just guaranteed they would be. -
/unsigned.
That is all, for all the reasons already stated. -
[ QUOTE ]
I just suggest that they create and enforce rules that either...
<ul type="square">[*]A) You must go to the AE building according to your level range, meaning you can't be a 50 in the Atlas Park AE Building.[*]B) You can be in other AE buidings out of you're level range but you must not be looking for a team.[*]C) You can be in other AE buildings out of your level range looking for a team, but you can not use broadcast to ask for teams or look for teams.[*]D) You can be in other AE buildings out of your level range, you may look for teams but it has to stay out of broadcast, BUT all farming teams must stay out of both local and broadcast.[/list]
I want any of those to happen before I enter Atlas, Galaxy or Mercy again.
[/ QUOTE ]
No to all of theses. -

Using the word please is not a demand, and not giving justification for a suggestion is not unusual either.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well...the first part depends on who is saying please and how...
When my ex-gf would say, "Would you PLEASE put the toilet seat down when you are finished."
That was a demand...that bordered on a command.
And fwiw...she never explained why either...and if I asked I think I would have been beaten.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's more like a command bordering on "if you don't do it you die".
But I get your point. -

Purples and the PvP recipes are a small volume part of the overall market.
They are the high priced end, and if there is one thing that history does tell us, the 'premium goods' like these will inflate faster than the baseline.
I don't have an issue with this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have a look at Common IO's, then.
You can be as snide as you like, but last time I went shopping there were few of them and they were far between. The prices for what was there were ridiculous. Why? Common and Uncommon Salvage both took supply hits too.
I have an issue with that.
[Edit: Common IO's and Common and Uncommon salvage represent the bulk of the market's volume. Any game design that compromises their production is a serious issue. That's incontrovertible.]
[/ QUOTE ]
I hope you don't mean Common IOs that you can buy off the university? I assume you mean Common Set IOs. Cause complaining about something that can be bought at what is essentially a store (the university) would be .. . -
[ QUOTE ]
This is not a bug. I ran into this last night. I was at 6500 tickets and it said I was at the cap. I thought it was odd, but when i completed the mission i got 3500 tickets for a bonus. So what's happening is the mission "queues" up your tickets from the bonus and counts them towards your total.
[/ QUOTE ]
that sounds like it. apparently it won't let you exceed 9999 and watches for it throughout the mission, calculating what you get versus what the end of missh bonus will be. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's exactly what I'm saying. But if they JUST make it anonymous, then that will give you a bunch of worthless feedback as well, unless there are some sort of requirements for feedback.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't agree at all.
If it's anonymous more folks would be willing to give feedback. One of the reasons I've STOPPED giving feedback and simply rate now, is because I have limited playtime during the week.
I don't have time to get into a philosophical conversation with everyone I rate.
Even the folks I give 5 stars to and used to comment on would want to have convos with me.
I don't have that type of time. -

Yeah, but lots of other players do.

Options are available for anyone who cares to use them.
Back in the day, when options were fewer and the gaming environment was harsher, there were valid complaints to make.
Now, with xp smoothing and IO sets and temp travel powers and all the other amenities that have graded the highway of the lower levels to a relatively flat plane, heaven forbid you have to spend a few hours of your character's life paying attention to your endurance usage!
My advice to anyone who feels persecuted by the first 20 levels of the game is suck it up.
Failing that, try slotting some end redux in key powers.
Don't run your toggles 24/7.
Grab a couple of cheap set IOs that give +rec.
Store endurance inspirations for big fights- turn other insp drops you get into endurance.
Buy medium end inspirations on the market- I regularly pick them up for less than 100 inf (I turn them into something else, but if you need end there they are).
The burden of the first 20 stamina-free levels doesn't need further lightening, they've already jettisoned most of the weight.
[/ QUOTE ]
qft. The days of having no other option but stamina are long gone.
Hell the days of having no other option but to slot end redux are long gone.
I don't understand how any can complain about end management nowadays at any level. -
[ QUOTE ]
And while the whole "walking out" idea may work in real life... I can assure you that it doesn't online.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you are suggesting is walking out. You go in, think it's bad, and, by decree of walking out and telling your friends never to watch it, rate it poorly.
But here's a question that I'd like to pose you, what would you consider of a movie critic who only watched the first 10 minutes of a movie and then immediately gave it a thumbs-down? It's the responsibility of the critic to partake entirely in order to give a rating that is as accurately as possible.
(Also, on the topic of modern colloquial use of expletives, especially considering the language of the specific statement and the vagueness of the point you were trying to make, it's quite easy to be confused as to whether the expletive in question is being used in a positive or negative manner, especially when the expletive is censored so it's impossible to know the exact wording used and there are no clarifying adjectives afterward. It's a use of ambiguous language that, even if you think it may have some basic connotation, should still be specified, especially when in a debate such as this one, describing a specific situation.)
[/ QUOTE ]
These aren't movies. If there is an EB I can't get past in the first missh, I'm quitting and 1 staring. THAT is ALSO not seeing the whole movie, if you want use that analogy.
No to this idea.
UNLESS it comes with the attempts marker, so I know what idiocy to avoid straight away without having to waste my time playing your (your in general) stupidly crafted, untested arc. -
Bye bye.
Good luck in all your future endeavors. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, it is. The bug that made a team of 8 get 1/8ths the drops, then divided 8 ways between the members, etc., is/should be fixed by now.
You still get more tickets, by far, soloing than you do grouping, but the same can be said for drops and grouping in general.
[/ QUOTE ]
eeeeeeexcellent.
EDIT: Won't feel like I'm gimping my new toons now when I team in the MA.
