Best thing that could happen to PvP (in my opinion) is for people to just... not participate.
Then maybe the devs would get the go-ahead to make the necessary changes to bring it back.

I don't know. I'm just completely uninterested in pvp in its current state, it makes me a sad zone farmer.
Unfortunately, if folks don't participate, the devs won't get the go-ahead from the higher ups to spend money on pvp.

However, I won't touch pvp in it's current state. Especially knowing that there won't be any pvp work until after the 2nd quarter of 2010.

    Yeah, I know, vicious circle.

EDIT: Also I still enjoy the pve. Sucks for those who don't.

I think mac means the devs might MAKE THEM weaker if they changed it in the fashion he was mentioning.

yup unlike in Champions where there are 1231323 soopermans and wulverines.

My point was that it raises the barrier to new players getting the name they want and it is unrealistic to expect them to invest the same kind of time in choosing a name that a dedicated, long-term player with multiple alts would. Instead they're more likely to add additional characters to a name until they get something they want or go with throwaway names, which means more than likely throwaway characters. Or get frustrated before even playing for the first time and dump the trial, or start playing in a bad frame of mind.

Only the CoH/V devs know the conversion rate for the trial accounts and possibly how many people drop out of playing having barely started a character (or spent time working on a character costume only to quit due to being nameblocked), so only they are in the position to have an idea of the importance of the issue from that perspective. However, I do think some long-term players are very blase about the new player experience, which is a very important factor in the future of this title.
Seeing as how the devs do have that data and haven't moved in a direction to run the script to free up more names or tie names to global . . .

Yeah not thinking it's that big a deal.

Right but the point was that because of the way it does work, it's not really accurate to use it to get a real count of how many players are on in game at any time.

Not to mention that the number of players who log on and off probably changes every 30 minutes or sooner.

Or simply not turn on a system that has no use without FIRST getting feedback from the community, and especially those who remember how USELESS other similar systems, on the old forums, were.

With that, well, depressing point of view, I'd have a hard-time advocating a return of a central viewing area for rep comments. Yes, only a few bad apples truly spoiled the system... but maybe this is a better way of actually getting those bad apples to engage in a constructive conservation.
This is all that needs to be said, and isn't rocket science to figure out. Had they asked BEFORE they turned on the silly "forum game" they could have been told that.

    But they didn't ask.

    no. not really lazy.

Yes, since we weren't asked BEFORE they activated the silly unnecessary "game" that trolls used to BLATANTLY break the forum rules.

So I really couldn't care less if the mods didn't ask anyone before they turned off the comments.

    Very fair.
  10. Open World Pvp. NO.

Open World where heroes and villains can cross back and forth sure.
But not like we are getting an expansion soon that allows this . . . oh wait.

I'm not dismissing it. I'm saying the devs will unless theirs REAMS of data.

You're saying exactly what I'm saying.

However, someone already did run one above. Someone who was very involved in testing the last time I recall.

The OP and others should run Drop Stats then come back with data.
  12. I'd say the system is fine as is.

I would NOT like to see the end/recharge, etc hit that some powers WOULD get from the devs if they were changed from single target to AOE.

Also as mentioned there would be no way to avoid buffing some folks who don't want them. Folks mentioned auto decline as a solution to that.

    Except that it's not.

    I'll explain:

Say the one person who hates sb on the team has the newly AOE buffs on auto decline. But say there is also a thermal on the team and he likes those buffs. Guess what?

By auto declining all buffs that person just does not get sb, he also does not get the thermal buffs, AM, or any other buffs.

Now say it's the tank on an itf? What then?

You can see where I'm going with this.

I do not see it as REALISTIC to think that the devs would allow the auto decline to work on selective buffs. The only way it would work would be for you to right click each buff you have next to your name and cancel those. As that just sounds tedious as I type it the only way it could be done (standard code rant here) would be auto declining or auto allowing. And that leads us right back to the problem above.

Allowing folks to auto decine buffs: good idea.
Changing single target buffs to AOE: horrible idea.

    /unsigned.

Pretty much this. The devs in fact stated that it was a perception issue till dozens of players provided DATA via DROPSTATS.

"I feel like my drop rate is down" is utterly and completely useless and won't go anywhere.

[NPC] Chaz the Bartender: You can get to Lord Winter's realm by defeating one of his Winter Lords. I'd take some backup, though.

[NPC] Chaz the Bartender: Sure, you can take on Lord Winter and his Winter Lords, but going solo probably isn't a good plan.

[NPC] Chaz the Bartender: I hear that Lord Winter is trying to extend his icy grip over Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. If you can find and defeat one of his Winter Lords, you should be able to travel to his realm and confront him. But bring a lot of friends!

Lord Winter - can we possibly get a different name? We've had Winter Lords of various strengths for years now, and adding a new version with the same words in his name is a bit odd. Can I suggest 'Old Man Winter' or 'King Winter' or even 'Giant Wandil'? (That last one is a bit obscure but fits perfectly!)

Could we also maybe get some more variation in the models, if possible? Right now the Winter Lord, Lord Winter and the Winter Guardian all look pretty much the same. Maybe give Lord Winter an ice-textured halo or something?

Three minutes may be a bit long for the countdown on the present. Two minutes would give a bit more frantic tension.

Rewards seem well worth the effort.
Sounds fun. Unfortunately I'm unable to log into TEST.

    LOL, wouldn't be shocking.

And how do those of us who wanted to see know where they are?
Yes but those comments do get forwarded to the mods, increasing their workload unnecessarily.

As to your second point: As I said the real way would be to make it work the way it says: If rep is off, you don't see rep or comments. If it's on, you see rep and comments. Or you can turn off comment viewing and still see rep.

If they can't do it that way, (I'm betting the forum software may not allow them to.) I'm fine with the way the have it now. Since none of us were asked BEFORE hand if we wanted to participate in this "forum game".

They're inherently riskier because it's harder to get a decent playerbase onto test to load it out, and even when only a few small fixes are made, they can have consequences no one happened to get to test in a shorter test window.

I personally don't have an issue with rollbacks. They're inconvenient, but even so the overall downtime of this game is far shorter than most others. When WoW had patch issues, it quite often turned 6hour downtimes into 12, and it still happened more often than it does here.
    Pretty much this.

Errrm, what game play advantage would actual fishing be?

    We don't have professions here.

The most we need is an emote. Just like Walk has no actual gameplay implications.

    His point was spot on.

Now would we want professions like WoW, sure. But it can get to the back of the line like every other suggestions made AFTER Walk. Walk was requested waaaay in the BETA for COH.

    So yeah.

The most optimal way it could have been done was those who don't want to see comments or rep don't. Those who do, do.

Of course we don't know if the software can do that. Only the mods do.

EDIT: Personally, I'd rather the entire rep/commenting system never have been implemented in the first place. But we as a player base weren't really consulted on that aspect. Unless there was some secret beta for the new forums that most didn't know about.
