Blast sets already have their tier 1 and tier 2 powers normalised like this, so in theory the various animations could be made available between sets. eg extend the X-ray Eyes animation to all tier 2 blasts.
This. Even if they are "old" animations, using them across different sets may allow for your theme to emerge. This first, then look at adding new animation choices.

So off the retail pack came Ultra Mode and in its place comes the first level of the Incarnate system (with the other 9 levels to come at a late date).
I'm at the office ninja-posting so I can't really delve into looking for this but I could have sworn that when Ultra-Mode was originally packaged with the Going Rogue info, there was a qualifier that said Ultra-Mode would come when it was ready. I think someone along the way even said it might come with a patch before I17 or between I17 and GR. But maybe I'm mis-remembering.

/signed...but really only as an overall part of massive Travel Power customization. I have no objection to a more dynamic pose but I don't think the one we have is all *that* terrible. More than anything, I just want choice. I want the choice to turn off the aura or to leave a trail of flames or after images or slide along on a patch of ice. All of these could be viable super speed choices and I'd love to see that kind of customization added to the game for all the travel powers.
  5. Yes. This. I don't really think it will happen in a timely manner - if ever - but I would love to see it. I pushed for it in another thread just today.

I want to make characters that may use a focus item (gun, staff, wand, etc.) to toss out their fire blast or beam of ice. Heck, I'd just like a alternate choice for some animations that maybe don't fit the concept of a particular character (Fire Breath, I'm looking at you) but are pretty solid powers otherwise and tough to skip.

Failing use of a focus item (and all the problems weapon redraw may bring to the table), I'd be happy for some animation alternates that were origin-based in their theme. Like maybe your tech hero could pick the robot MM summoning animation to summon his imps. Or maybe your Rad Blaster could pick an animation that looked a little like spell casting. I wouldn't even care if the bulk of these animations were just ports from other powers, just so long as we had the choice.

Color customization is cool and all but I've always wanted to see it take a few more steps. I hope it does.

    Dual Archtypes

What I would like to see is the ability to have a dual archtype. You could swap between archtypes like you do builds, speaking to a trainer.

For example I have a MA/SR who I wrote up as ex-military. It would be cool to be able to use the same toon as a blaster for AR or Dual Pistols.
I have two accounts and have two separate characters who are level-pacted with alternate versions of themselves. One is a DP Blaster who is also a Martial Artist and one is a Brute who doesn't always have his powers, so sometimes he's an AR corruptor. With the copy costume tool, it's really a breeze to do these days but these cats level slooooow. It takes some of the fun out of it.

Ugh. I hate that naming convention. If you *have* to have them have the same name, find a free name with some lower case L's in the body of the word and do the upper case I for lower case L trick. It still sucks and people will have problems sending you tells and inviting you to teams but it looks a lot better.

I'm pretty sure that they said the "first" of ten levels. You don't get the other 9 until I19.

I popped a GTX 260 in my 4 year old computer and had a fried motherboard less than a week later. It should have been compatabile and it should have had more than enough power. The timing seemed a little suspicious but I don't know that the card caused the problem for sure.

I didn't really have the cash for a dream system build but I have a pretty good in-betweener that ought to keep me happy for 3 years or so. I'm kind of glad it happened really except for the few things I can't get off my old hard drives for love or money.
  9. Since I'm the one reading the text, I usually hear the characters in my own voice. However, I think I can fairly say that I am a voice "talent" with TWO distinct vocalizations in my considerable arsenal:

Dumb Guy - my normal speaking voice slowed down slightly and with the appropriate look of confusion on my face.

Foreign Guy - my accented voice that always sounds the same regardless of the imitated's gender or national origin.

Yeah, I'm a regular Mel Blanc.
  10. I was one of the people not too excited by color customization but I have to admit that I found uses for it that I didn't foresee and now think it was a pretty cool addition. The alternate animations for SS and MA always made me happy though and any additional animation choices for melee powers gets my vote. Choice is great!

The gold standard for customization (IMO) would still be being able to use some kind of focus for powers (be it a weapon or object) or being able to tweak damage types with certain customization options. If the Vanguard broadsword actually did some energy damage, for example. I know these kinds of options would be difficult to balance correctly but it really is the kind of customization I'm hoping to see in the City someday.

Meh. Just make a Warshade version of your PB, side-switch him/her and then say s/he started out in Praetoria in the first place.

I'm far more annoyed that it seems like you have to go to Praetoria to side-switch period. Redemption or a Fall From Grace has essentially nothing to do with the in-game mythology. I'd rather we get some morally ambigious missions in PC and the RI than have to take a non-powered street level hero dimension-hopping just to make them into the vigilante I always envisioned.

However, I don't know for certain that Praetoria tourism is the only way you'll be able to side-switch so I can't really call foul until I that gets solidly confirmed. When it does, I'll weep very softly to anyone that will listen.

"From" states the mesurement of time (mesurment of time being what you just described) not "between".

Between neither the start or end point are counted. Think of like a sandwitch... You got August(a slice of bread) September(a slice of cheese) October(more cheese) November(Bread). A sandwitch is just a bunch of ingrediants "between" 2 slices of bread but you don't count the bread as being "between" the bread.
This is completely off-topic but I'd think about getting your cholesterol checked. If you're doubling up on cheese every time you make a sandwich, you might not make it to Beta!

  15. Can the last person out of this thread turn the lights off please? There is an energy crisis.
  16. I opted for a GTX 260 which I installed last night. I was a little concerned - my computer was a beast in its day but it'll be 4 years old this coming summer and the processor is starting to show its age a little as I sink further and further out of Recommended and into Minimum. Nevertheless, it seems to be running like a champ and I'm looking forward both to GR and getting another year or two out of my system.

Shadow State is talking about Miss Liberty, the mother of Ms. Liberty. However, Miss Liberty makes an appearance in the villain-version of Mender Tesseract's Strike Force set in 1963 and her costume looks more like a precursor to Ms. Liberty's costume we see in Atlas Park. I suppose there is nothing to contradict that she may have once worn a costume that looked like Maiden Justice's costume but that seems more likely to have happened early in her career rather than later. If so, the date of 1963 kind of throws a monkey wrench into the works of everyone in that picture being contemporaries unless BABs is far older than we suspect.

Also worth mentioning that I believe Miss Liberty's appearance in MT's Strike Force is in an alternate timeline so things could be a little off.

  20. I kind of tend to agree with what a lot of responders have already said: Ignoring the griefer is still your best chance at victory. It is the rare jackass that will continue to bug you after doing so for five minutes or so with no reaction. Petition (once) if you must but the minute you acknowledge their shenanigans to them, you've already lost.

That being said, I am a RPer almost exclusively these days and a lot of folks in my community are just a little too sensitive to live. Just a few days before the chalet opened, I was up at the D's tailor on Maniac Mime to tweak something and decided to peek in on the blue bar. Now, MM doesn't talk IC and is essentially a homicidal maniac so her interactions are usually limited to emotes with the occasional "..." thrown in for good measure. I take MM over to a group of players and start doing the monkey with her but having no physical or verbal interaction with any of them. After about 30 seconds, one of them emotes "RPer X decides that the Mime is a griefer and promptly ignores." Griefing? Really? For just dancing in your character's general vicinity? I moved on because I'm not out to spoil anyone's good time but I had to shake my head at the delicate flower.

To me, RPing is about rolling with the punches (verbal and otherwise) and reacting in-character to the stimuli that others provide. If you can do this and have a sense of humor about it, you'll have a far better time than you will if you get upset every time someone forces you to deviate from your predetermined script. I've been irked by griefers myself and I have confronted them about their behavior but the ones I've either ignored or addressed in-character have moved on quicker as a general rule.

If there were some mechanism in the set to auto-give any pets you summon the same look and costume you're wearing during the summoning, there wouldn't necessarily have to be customization. Assuming of course that such a thing is even possible.

And if there were pet customization Thugs, Ninjas, Mercs, and mybe even zomibies could all potentially be a duplication powerset. Personally, I wouldn't be happy with the power limitations but it could be fun.

In any case, I see this best fulfilled as a MM set and maybe some kind of hero-side equivalent AT someday, not a power pool.

(And every name that falls into this category would be on a character that is over level 35. Since I3 is also when the level cap was raised from 40 to 50, the pool of names you're asking to draw from is very small; lv 35-40 characters that haven't logged in for 5 years)
Any name that fails to return something on /getglobalname is most likely a name that pre-dates globals. At least, that seems to be the prevailing wisdom.

However, you brought up the best point so far with the observation that this may be a very small pool of names to choose from. Obviously, this couldn't work as a solo vet feature because the pool of names vs. the number of vet players might very well be incongruent. Very good point.

Name purges is probably all we're going to get in this arena and that could be perfectly fine. I just wish they would reconsider the level policy when it comes to trial accounts and the very oldest of the inactive accounts. The people that bailed before the first anniversary that still haven't been back are unlikely to return in droves. I'd still like to see those names potentially released, regardless of level.

For players who haven't logged on in X years, the fact remains that the players could come back at some point. If somebody comes back to the game after five years only to find that their beloved character name is taken, what makes you think they're going to stay afterwards?
Well, the new player example isn't really germane to this discussion. I clearly said that the only names you could "take" would be the on old accounts that haven't been used since before Jan 2005. The sideline discussion about trial accounts probably muddied that a little so let me clearly say that I'm not suggesting that you can take a name from a new paying player. Now, I'd be all for names becoming unlocked on trial accounts as soon as that trial period lapsed but recognizing that many people are more reasonable than me, I could see them allowing some grace period to give the trial player a chance to make up his or her mind. But trial accounts getting to tie up names in perpetuity? Even if they haven't become paying accounts in years? I can't get with that.

I submit that a character that hasn't been played in five years isn't beloved. I understand loving the name but mere name love shouldn't enable someone to hold onto a name past the demise of their virtual play. And while I have to admit complete ignorance on actual statistics, I suspect that players who return to this game after a period of five years are in the single digit percentages...if not fractions of a percent. Sure, someone will get disappointed in the scenario I suggest but if the numbers aren't significant and it will make the people actually still paying to play the game happy, I say that's a win.

So, I get that you guys don't like the idea. What if it's a microtransaction instead?

EDIT: SS explained my position quite well...it just took me a long time to type this between team afks.

All I can say is that if I were gone for three years, I don't think I would be surprised to come back and find a few of my names had been taken. That's just me though.

However, if I were running a business that depended on keeping customers (even wayward ones) happy, I'd probably make a study of the subscription numbers and try to see if there is a line of demarcation on players who leave and never return. For example, if the numbers were to show that only 2% of players return after an absence of 36 months or more, then I would probably risk potentially annoying those 2% of players in the interest of making some current subscribers happy.

Again, I was being a little facetious with my suggestion since it is highly unlikely the developers would allow a potentially punitive system to be in the hands of players, even if there were limitations on the power. I do think there is something interesting in the notion of a vet power that not only rewards the veteran player but retroactively takes something away from the non-players. I'm not necessarily saying it would be a good thing - only that it would be interesting. To me.
