I'll be on Virtue for as long as I can be but I wanted to thank you all here as well.
I first started playing the game with a group of friends from school. Over five years later, I'm the only one left playing. A friend suggested we all make our characters on Virtue since it was the best server. He wasn't wrong then and he isn't now. Virtue has been my second home throughout it all and it's been the best the whole time.
After my friends had stopped playing, I started RPing. I had a few concepts that fizzled, but soon my first Main was born. The Viridian Sentry of the Young Gods of the Golden Age, MA/DA Scrapper. VS was my first 50 and I met my first friends playing her. Most of them are gone now, and some of them I lost to stupid drama, but you were my friends.
Then I joined Evolution-X and stumbled across my second Main, Aquashock. Playing Aqua instilled my love of Defenders, a class I'll miss so very much. I met some amazing people in Evo-X and we're still friends. Thank you Metal Smith and Attache for the group. Thank you, Sam, DH, Boo, Thally, Chill and DD. Thank you, Nuc and Cogs.
I never stopped playing CoX for long despite the numerous problems I've had. I played, and paid, through the pain of insta-migraine Old Sonic Res and every other bright powerset that made me sick. But it was worth it in the end. I've met all of you.
Jessie Sullivan was one of my favorite characters to play and Westbrook Academy was a group where all the work of officership mattered. Thank you, JA and Wyn for the SG. Thank you, everyone who joined and helped make something special. I was prom queen and I'll never forget that.
JelloMold and Playboy2, best base builders in game and the greatest friends a player could have.
And my two new groups, Blackstone Prep and Grimmsel, so young but so awesome.
Friends, old and new, you've given me amazing memories and more laughs than I can even remember. Let's keep Virtue amazing until the very end. -
Thank you so much!
I was able to get the Cider update and get the game to start. However the NC Launcher icon on my dash still hasn't reverted back.
For the record, I'm running 10.5.8. -
I'm running 10.5.8. I tried checking for software updates to see if it's something on my end that could be the problem but no luck.

Thanks for all the input guys! Looks like I have some researching to do tonight!

I've been playing for a while but it's been years since I was heavily involved in larger aspects of the Virtue RP community. I'd like to get back in the swing of active RP SGs again but since it's been so long I'm pretty lost regarding how to go about finding a good group for me. The last time I was searching for groups was back when there were SG Fairs at the Galaxy Arena, which made things a lot easier!
Right now, I'm looking for SG homes for some of my teenage toons. I mostly play Gold/Silver Age style characters with a bit of modern age comics stuff tossed in for good measure. Since I do have a few SG-less toons, I'm willing to consider any offers that fit the teen-SG criteria. All of the groups I've been involved with have been heavy RP and I really do prefer that.
Like I mentioned, I've been involved in heavy RP groups in the past, so I know what I'm getting into. I just need to figure out how to get there. -
Thanks for all the help!
I tend to go with 5 of Scirocco's Dervish on my PBAoEs and play around with the 6th slot, but I'll certainly look into all the suggestions! -
I've been playing with possible builds for my Elec/Invuln Scrapper and was looking at the various ways that Thunder Strike could be slotted. I figured instead of starting at the screen, it'd be way more useful for me to ask the Scrapper experts (which I am certainly not).
Would it be a good idea to slot the Force Feedback +Recharge proc into Thunder Strike?
Thanks! -
I used to stay hidden, back in the days of RMT e-mails and when I was in active SGs with in-game friends.
Now, unless I'm only a solo-only toon who stays hidden from level 1 onwards, I don't hide from searches. I haven't run into any problems on my visible toons. I don't get blind invites (I ask for "no blind invites" in my search info), I rarely get tells when my LFT flag isn't flying and those that I do get are generally polite about it. My Emp doesn't even get more traffic than my other Defenders. I actually expected staying unhidden to be much worse than it's turned out to be. -
I've started to more broadcasts looking for "support" lately, instead of the usual "need healer" stuff. I am firmly in favor of this change.
(Of course, my Defender got invited to a PuG a few days ago because, apparently, her name sounded like it would belong a healer. That was fun.) -

Lol. The Shackles I didn't mind, but the IV's were obnoxious.
No "Eventually" about it, I was play testing it after the first round of proliferation and have been waiting anxiously till I can build one on the live servers. Never played a more "tankish" feeling dominator, despite it having no armors.
Some very good guesses here on the powers, but Earth Assault will be a very melee heavy set. Also opted for the regular Hurl boulder Animation, since the Propel Boulder animation uses the full 3.5 second long propel animation. Now I may be a huge fan of propel for my grav doms/Trollers, but the thought of having 2 versions of it didn't seem too fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh man, this actually makes me want to play a Dom despite the Domination sparkle!graphics of doom. I'm in utter shock over here. Awesome job in advance! -
(QR)
Mine would have to be Heat Treatment (Earth/Therm 'troller) followed by Steel Swan (Nin/Elec Stalker).
Sadly, neither name is as cool as one of my friend's toons, Baron von Awesome. -

For me, there's a *major* difference between someone yelling "SB please!" and "Hey, can I get a SB?" along with a major difference between "Eww! Ice Shields! Don't buff me!" and "Could you not ice armor me please?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. In my case, if someone asks if I want a buff and it's one of the ones that bothers me I simply say "No thanks." If a team member gives me a fire shield (for example), I ask them to keep me out of the rebuffing rotation, and I don't flip out over accidents. Being polite always works best for me the few times I join PuGs.
And, to explain some of the confusion over how one buff/type of buff can change things, when it comes to me it tends to depend on several in and out of game factors. If I've already had a minor headache when I started playing, or if I've been playing for hours already, it's easier for one or two buffs to bother me. The combination of buffs and lighting in certain maps have an effect as well, such as cave maps or outdoor maps at night. Cold buffs and ice armor can trigger me in the same sort of way that bright headlights at night can.
To be honest, buffs aren't the only things that can trigger headaches and migraines for me, but most of the other factors (playing a melee character on a team with TA and fire or Longbow nullifier debuffs), are ones that I can control better. Like I said before, I'm a masochist.
/overshare >.> -
That was a pretty epic smiley, I do have to admit.
Actually, can we all agree not to buff people who ask for it every 15 seconds, especially if they're A) already buffed and B) on the opposite side of the map, instead? -
[ QUOTE ]
It's a mystery to me how people can play this game, with its flashing lights and bright colours everywhere, and be fine, but as soon as one little bubble/speedboost/ice armor shows up, it's migraine city and oh noes. Considering how hectic and chaotic the graphics are in a typical team battle, it's a wonder those folks don't die on the spot when someone fulcrum shifts.
[/ QUOTE ]
... so I guess all those people who used to get migraines from Sonic Res were faking it and the Devs changed the set because they decided one night that orange was an awesome color? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
The only time I've had serious complaints about bubbles was with the old Sonic graphics - and that wasn't aesthetics, that was "they make me physically ill."
[/ QUOTE ]
I have an SG mate who has this issue with Thermal shields. Found out the hard way when I hit her with Fire and Plasma shields with my mind/thermal troller. After about ten minutes she was done for the day. Knowing that, I ask teams when I use my mind/thermal if everyone is okay with having the shields on their toons.
She has the same issue with the graphics that show up when you're doing warhead runs in Warburg as well. We got her to do a run one morning with us so she'd have them for a STF team. She was able to stick it out long enough to get the warheads but we didn't see her again in-game for about 36 hours. The flashing sparkles of Domination set her off as well so she can't play Doms.
I've got another SG mate whose system goes nuts when he's speed-boosted on any toon normally moving faster than Hover. It sometimes winds up crashing the client and then requires a reboot to run properly.
"Lrn2ply" is not an option for these situations.
So yeah, there really are legit reasons to not want buffs, and anyone who refuses to not buff someone when asked gets kicked from our teams.

Hey! Those times all totally beat my usual for evil!Sonic bubbles! One buff = 48 or more hours being ouchy! ... I'm such a masochist, seriously.
Please, people, if someone says they don't want a buff, and list "it makes me sick/gives me a headache" as their reason? Please, please, please, don't buff them! I certainly don't need to be "convinced" about how useful buffs are or anything like that.
The people in here that talk about buffing extra when people ask not to be kinda make me sick, and not in my usual CoH way. -

I've had people ask me not to bubble them before. In those cases, though, it was a case of the swirling bubble graphic making them a bit motion sick. I would absolutely consider buffing someone who's requested not to be for a reason like that on purpose to be beyond malicious.
If someone asks nicely not to be buffed, I don't buff them. It's certainly a lot better than being pestered about it. Heh, I even ask if buffs are ok when on my Thermal, because I know they can be problematic.
The current buffs aren't as bad as old Sonic Res, but they're certainly not all easy on everyone's eyes... -
I would love if something was done about the level 10 costume slot that SoAs can unlock, be it a 50% coupon or a "new" costume that retains your scales.
If I didn't have a pile of tokens from vet rewards, I wouldn't have been able to use the slot thanks to the hair, face/head shape, face and other little details not being carried from the first to second slots. Those things cost -a lot- to fix for a lowbie... -

Oh, man. I was getting all excited about I16 colors letting me play powersets I've never been able to, thanks to over-bright graphics, and now I've seen the downside of customization.
I really hope the Devs give us something to mitigate the possibility of insanely bright colored buffs in I16. I imagine that the worst offenders are going to be single-target buffs (Thermal, Cold, etc.), which might be easier to give the same treatment as rezzes? Dunno how plausible even that'd be, though. -
[ QUOTE ]
I think a "secondary respec" which would allow you to move only power slots would be very welcome. I absolutely despise having to respec just to move around one or two slots, to the point where I don't even bother.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would love if something like that existed. Slotting issues have been the only reasons why I've respeced in the two+ years I've been playing.
One thing that I've always hated about respecs is that there's no easy way to tell what level you're choosing powers for. I've done respecs on my 50s that have been just fine at level 50, but when I exemped down for TFs/teaming, I'll discover that I didn't take Stamina until level 28 or something just as stupid. Even by remembering the order you took your powers, it only tells you the "how" of your original choices, not the "when," which is where I -always- mess up.
Maybe this wouldn't be such an issue, except I don't have access to Mids and refuse to download special programs just to use it. -

oooo i hate that ice armor thrown on me without asking
[/ QUOTE ]
Kinda sad that people want to cancel a buff just because of the graphics.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's the only reason why I want to be able to cancel buffs, or decline them (like with rezzes/fortunes). Drive-bys aren't as dire now as they used to be with the old sonic graphics (just one shield was enough to trigger a migraine for me, not fun at all), but they're still one of my major pet peeves.
Are there any known hardware-wise reasons why the option to turn off buffs wouldn't be viable? My knowledge of technology and video gaming ends with being able to set up a macro. -

*Which* issues actually become material issues the devs will have to address isn't obvious to me at the moment.
[/ QUOTE ]
The (if it ever happens, new) dominator vs. blaster issue seems pretty obvious to me, but blasters are apparently popular, so they may be able to hold on to their popularity even vs. (if it ever happens, new) dominators.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem I see with that is that, in my experience, people tend to link Doms with 'trollers, not Blasters. I've dealt with this a lot lately, and seeing how Controller numbers react to Going Rogue might be more of an issue...
Back on topic, thanks for the info guys! I've just started a major project with my main Scrapper, to see how far I can push her, and math (plus a lack of Mids) is my weakpoint. -
Perhaps that should be a more visible aspect of the note that's being added/bandied around the forums?
I'm just imagining the replies that are going to appear from the crowds aren't going to be sunshine and rainbows when they hear that they "aren't allowed to use the purple sets." -
I adore my Fire/Rad. She tears through things that would kill my Scrapper, without even one of the imps dying. I just stand in the middle of a mob with Hot Feet on, making sure that everything's locked-down, and watch the imps destroy everything in sight.
I've also built her so she teams just as well as she solos. Plus, she can explode corpses!
(Disclaimer : I've been on a 'troller love kick since a friend started dissing the AT because it's not the precious "Dom." Really, any 'troller can be fun to play, and they can be built to match any playstyle better than most ATs. My Fire/Rad can solo and team, while my Earth/Thermal thrives in 8-man teams and can't survive that well on her own. Both are very fun to play, and allow me to play how I want, when I want.) -
Ok, does anyone have any ideas/hunches as to why this is necessary? I'm just glad I found out before I went ahead and made/slotted the set for my Fire/ 'troller, but it does leave a hole in her level 50-build.
