Quote:There's your problem right there, thats still pretty wimpy difficulty, especially with level shifters present and running it on +0 on lower levels is gonna get you poor xp as well. A half decent team should manage +2 even at lower levels, level shifted I'd feel like I was cheating at anything less than +3.but even when I was running ITFs with my non-50s I never got more than 2 levels out of a single WST, and that was on a "shard run" where the 50s wanted to kill everything in front of them and had it set to +1 because so many of them were level shifted.
Lot's of PUG TF's get run at that diff for shards and speed but for xp it's a boring cakewalk for very little return. -
Mortal Kombat: Conquest
Raiden sets it all up for the heroes to storm in as a clichetastic rescue right at the end of the last episode only for the villain to then offer proof of the death of everyone who he might have been expecting to save him, villainy at it's finest. -
Me as well and the person on my team who i checked it with, seems to be a pretty wide spread problem without any unifying factors at the players end.

I finally found a fix that works from one of my SG mates which basically bypasses the updater, of course next time they patch or something changes, not sure if dxp being turned off will do it, I'm going to be snookered again.
Next time you release something like this a good idea might be to not release it on top of early access people have paid for on a dxp weekend and maybe even test it before you hamper/annihilate a whole bunch of peoples ability to play the game, just a thought. -
Nice work devs, which genius wrote the code on this update?
I managed to get in briefly last night but after logging out and remembering I needed to check the market it went back to giving me the same error that the application is already in use. If I rename the US updater connects just fine and wants to know where to install to. When I go back to a .EU naming it just brings up the error again.
I sat for 30 mins trying all the fixes in this thread before I got on and then 15 mins after trying to log back in at which point none of them worked at all.
So glad I decided to pay for GR preorder on the crazy assumption I'd actually be able to log in this dxp weekend...
Have any of our community tech guru's come up to with an alternate workround as at current I'm not able to log in at all? -
Quote:I'm a long term subscriber, I've had several years of loving the game and so was on a 3 month cycle that I'm sadly in the middle of, I don't really log in anymore and my faith in a fix has faded with time. The occasional SG event in Flashback or regular team where we can actually fight enemies that are half credible and thats about it, but my auto renewal is now off for the first time in 4 years. Why are you still playing a game you think is too easy/boring? Especially if you have little to no faith that things will be fixed to your satisfaction.
I was in the middle of soloing a brute using flashbacks but even that has been abandoned in the face of aggrivation and frustration over this issue meaning I don't even want to boot the game up.
For 4 months we've heard the same line "It's complicated, a fix is coming sooner rather than later, there's a promising patch being tested" and now vague hints of it being a feature of I17. Since when did fixing something that you screwed up 6 months back count as a feature? Because people who joined the game in the half half year don't know any better?
A 6 month turnaround just smacks of unimportant backburner fixes and to me really indicates who they want as a playerbase, and it isn't the +2-4 fighters... -
I know a whole bunch of people that had this actually been fixed in decent time would have come back but are frankly sick of waiting on a fix for something important like this. How exactly is this a minor detail? Fighting +0's is about as interesting as watching paint dry, there's a reason why virtually any PUG (let alone decent SG team) is running at +1-3.
The Coming Storm may not have expressed himself in the best way, but that anger is very much valid.
It came up in the other threads on this in technical issues and I didn't want to believe it but it's become very apparant that we are the freaks, those of us who would rather run a Sister Psyche at +2 for fun, a challenge and better XP instead of using the TF's as an exercise in monotony to hammer out merits at the best rate possible.
I'm hearing vague comments of the fix being part of I17, a *mere* 6 months after it was broken, assuming somethng they put into I17 doesn't break said fix, and still 2 months off.
The TF's are the teaming flagship event for the game, you know roughly how long people will need to commit for, that there's a decent carrot reward at the end to help motivate team filling among your more reward driven players, it has a decent little story and in some cases some nice unique challenges.
Now you still know how long it takes but you'll only get people after the carrot because the actual journey stopped being fun the first time you realise that several SO'd team members are perfectly capable of handling the whole thing alone because of the pathetically wimpy enemies and because with the +5 levels they're actually *more* powerful than in the +2 runnign days.
But hey, who cares, the speed runners and merit farmers are happy and CO flopped so it's not like they actually need to produce a game people enjoy, just cater to the people willing to spam the same easy content every time the 24 hour timer runs out...
Now before people start, I don't mind regular farmers, or speed runners to a degree (though what you guys did to the Katie/Eden rewards will never be forgiven) but if thats the direction this game is going in I just want to know because then I can start shopping around for a new distraction. -
Blind is a single target hold with a very small AoE sleep around it which is where the AoE part is coming in, they have to be stood pretty much right next to each other, but it's there.
Illusion has it's fair share of AoE, with Flash as the basic AoE hold, Spectral Terror for large AoE fear and Phantom Army all able to affect a large area of the battlefield. -
Yup, this one is running as intended, we've been trying where possibly to use it as a work around for the currently temporarily borked TF difficulty settings that mean you can't make it anything but +0 enemies, as Cat said, I believe it was there due to a combination of people exploiting being able to flip the diff and as we encountered fighting a +3 Freedom Phalanx, having the leader drop and having a level 48 be next in line for the star. 8x +5 level heroes was... painful
-
Yup, I've got no issues at all with the -1 thing, it has a number of uses and is another option which is good, but this is really dragging on and grating now.
My concern, which is only growing as we hear nothing of training room fixes or any progress on this, is that this may become "working as intended" in which case I wish they'd just come out and say it. The problem started in October, when does a temporary fix stop being temporary? I was willing to give the Dev's the benefit of the doubt when this hit, but that belief only goes so far.
Mod? Kim? Anyone in Red? Is this actually being looked at? Is it on the backburner to invasions and GR? Anything? -
Well the christmas present of not hassling over this has now expired and been discarded along with the wrapping paper and out of date turkey, any joy with this yet Mod? A belated christmas gift of +2 posi runs or max diff TF races? Even something on the horizon would be nice.
-
I'm 3 petitions, one bug report and a month past due on mine seems to be a rash of them at the moment
-
You had any joy on this?
I'm also on European server and I'm now at the month mark of waiting for my late vet reward, it wouldn't be such a pain if it weren't for the fact I'm due another character slot that I already have plans for and since it's the 36th for the server it would be a waste to buy it with this reward coming. I've bug reported and petitioned twice but still no joy aside from an email saying I'd been referred to someone else. -
This is also one of the actual moments when self destruct comes in handy too, we've had a few times when this has happened and damage aura's and the like are either unavailable or insufficient.
Stand where he can hit you to confirm, go boom, several team members can repeat if necessary to finish the job.
Nukes and the like work too if your less suicidally inclined. -
A squad of tooled up 50's letting fly with their best toons on 54 enemies isn't really indicitive of normal high level play. Yes you generally can handle higher con enemies at higher level but not everyone is playing amped up toons.
You were probably on a team of people who were looking to enjoy their game while bringing profit and playing their real "superhero" toons it seems. Your average pug team is not gonna run that smooth.
A 50 is powerful, an IO'd 50 can be a superhero, sadly at the moment there isn't a lot that can actually challenge a team of IO'd out 50's, doubly so now the TF's which had some of the nastier stuff are difficulty locked (hint hint ) but this is a temporary thing. -
Good this is my point, from your previous post you come off as someone it doesn't matter to, like you came in just to take pot shots at the people it does matter to, it's good to have another post of someone who's game time is seriously detrimentally affected by this, thats kind of what I'd like this thread to show.
It would be far too easy to assume given all the posts on "whichs is best farmer" "best speed for TF spams" "Best market niches" "How many billions do you have?" etc that we're all either farming at x8, merit grinding or playing the market all day (nothing wrong with any of those things, if in fact anyone wants to farm up a load of decimations and drop the price i'll be happy) but this isn't the case and I'd like the devs to be aware of that.
If something is bugged and no-one posts, you assume it's unimportant and fix it whenever, if they see a decent number of people are taking breaks, not playing or abandoning the TF content all together due to it we might have it bumped up the priority list.
I just really hope the person suggesting late January isn't right, otherwise i'm gonna have to hit Paragon wiki for some fun Flashbacks to keep myself interested. -
Quote:We get it's complicated but as it's been said we are 8 weeks down the line, it's not like this broke yesterday and we've been spamming the forums since. Damn us crazy people who want to keep bringing it to attention that a good chunk of what we enjoy about the game is currently lying in shattered pieces, damn us. And the question being asked is more "When is it gonna be fixed because it's a pain in the *** and negatively affecting game populations" and "Can't it be reverted to the old system temporarily"So, a redname commented on the complexity of the issue, why it's taking a while to do (tons of things connected to it, extensive testing required), and reassured us that they'll get it done when possible after it's completely fixed and not just a hackjob.
Then people post and say "Yeah, but why is it taking so long?! Lazy slacker devs!!"
I'm guessing from your flippant post the change has had virtually no effect on you, congratulations, but there are some of us for whom logging in for the occasional SG/Pug TF made up the majority of our play time and are now sleepwalking through whites and yellows, or often not even bothering so I'll keep mentioning it thanks.
If you don't let the devs know the effect it's having you have to assume they don't think people are fussed, I'd rather they know that not everyone want's to spam +0 TF's for merit grinds, thatÂ’s kind of why they read on here, opinion of the player base and all that. -
Quote:My original *thread* on the matter however was created on the 23rd of October and recieved no redname comment and dissapeared under a bunch of other stuff, and as stated the diff levels had been set to +0 "temporarily" a bit before that, hence the 2 month comment, this isn't a 3 day old problem, if it was then yes, this annoyance would be highly unreasonable. This thread was created on November 23rd, and a Redname responded to you within 4 hours, explaining the complexity of the situation. If a new fix was almost done, the Redname comment probably would have reflected that.
That was less than 3 days ago. It's probably going to take a lot longer than that. lol -
Dragging this back from the brink of becoming a PvP thread, it's good to have had a redname comment even if the end result is "Soon" and okay it's complicated and pretty well entrenched code, but my original post on the matter was 23rd of October, and it had been like that a while when I posted so I think we may be coming up to the 2 month mark shortly and no fix in sight. I get some people would rather merit grind on +0 and run 2-3 TF's in the time we do one and thats fine, but they'll still be able to do that once we crazy people have gone back to running them on +2 to +4 and actually facing the possibility of team wipes and failures.
Part of the problem is that the situation is compounded by the recent +5 level changes (Which work awesomely when the difficulty isn't borked by the way). Not only are people coming into the TF's with IO's potentially but also with 5 extra levels of power. Your enemies are locked in a weaker state and the players are coming into it more powerful than before.
It doesn't stand alone as the reason but this *Is* affecting the population because TF runners are a niche like PvP'ers, farmers, marketeers, RP'ers etc (and given the seeming Union population drop a bigger one than I thought) and we've seen the anger and subscription loss that comes from battering said niche's ability to play the game their way, and the same thing is happening here.
I only hope the dev's can see that. -
I think thats supposed to be the way it works, I don't recall my pets ever double bubbling me, they do the other bots but I think you just get the one buff that won't stack so they don't bother.
I'd love to be wrong and have this be a bug as my MM would get a massive defence buff, but I think one version is all you get. -
Quote:This got mentioned on my thread of the same name, they are largely useless. They are locked at the beginning of a TF and have no sliding scale they are flat buffs/debuffs to accuracy and damage and they are big enough to be absolutely crippling to non-purpled toons at many levels while having virtually no effect on a well slotted high end toon.Yes. Or is this not difficult enough for people? Is difficulty soley based on mob size and what level they spawn? Wouldn't using these sliders on TFs accomplish the same result as fudging level spawn with the new settings?
White conning enemies are pretty pathetic to a half decent team with DO/SO's, add in the player debuff and those DO/SO users are down to -20%-10% accuracy base and whiffing away. Yay, isn't the game fun, I get to spend all day missing!
Or we can buff the enemies and watch stray enemies one shot the SO user squishies due to their damage buff while the IO'ers run around having all the fun.
Unless the teams power synchs up perfectly with the level of debuff you end up making it not fun for someone due to the all or nothing nature of the buffs. About the only time they are useful is for a pure high end team wanting to make life tougher.
The best thing the devs did in my opinion in this game was the SSK/difficulty slider allowing a team to on the fly create a difficulty setting that challenged them, regardless of the relative powers of the teammates in all but the most hand picked purpled out builds. It allowed us to run top difficulty TF's to really give some of our slotted favourites a decent run out. That option is dead, it has to be done on flashback or regular content, so no more mixed teams for a start (Bye ITF and LGTF) unless you rustle up the arc and no running the TF content.
The devs dropped about 3 absolute stinker patches in a row after I16 and while credit to them, they've fixed most of the issues this one left is a biggie. I've watched SG interest in TF's drop dramatically and this is hitting the population of the game in general from what I see.
Editted to add this:
Without giving offence, this is twaddle and you know it. When was the last time you joined a pug and it was running on team size/+0? Really. Outside of the first 10ish levels I can't remember a single time, it had gotten to the point where I thought +2 was the standard difficulty. It's very, VERY rare in my experience that teams run on +0 and I'd be surprised if there were many out there who could say differently. -
So seriously anything on this? Devs? Anyone?
This is starting to look like a non-temporary solution and it's having a massive effect on the number of people interested in TF's. Can't we at least get the old settings back for TF's?
When you introduce a system like inventions where toons can solo high plus con 8 man spawns and give them 5 extra levels in exemp power having TF's that can only be run at +0 is hugely insufficient.
Flashbacks are working, great, but the TF's and SF's were ideal events for casuals and this locked difficulty thing is butchering interest from SG's and randoms alike. -
When I built my Invuln I just used the positionals I'd idadvertantly built to get to the softcap for everything else to get my psi defence and then added the psi resists from Impervium armour sets. That should give you some more room to build up your core defences as sacrificing that much S/L/E/N/F/C to protect yourself against pure psi attacks isn't going to work out better in the long run unless your hunting down every last psi blast foe you can just to prove a point.

Yup.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=194423
Been going on for a while now and so now with TF's at -1, flashbacks at minimum spawn level and regular content normal but with x2 difficulty AV's they've finally succeeded in knackering the settings of the entire game...
Don't know if it's as simple as doubling though, we had a level 42 +2 enemies villain team that spawned a 47 Numina in the conclusion of a patron arc, that was all kinds of not fun, especially when her incomings started as well... -
Yeah they did, and life was really good for a while there, more lower TF's were being run by people above the level range still getting XP and we had an increase in TF activity, we had a 50 ding on our first Posi run after the changes but now you can end up on a TF for example with a max level with +5 levels of powers on top fighting +0's who is on cruise control. Do you debuff yourselves and buff enemies for those people while potentially nerfing a chunk of the team to observers or just let them practically solo the TF?
Difficulty settings on TF's are, I will go as far as to say, essential, to the point that now where I would sign up for events and respond to PUG TF's I find myself wondering what else I could be doing and logging off as the challenge and thus entertainment will be limited due to enemies who pose virtually zero threat.
