Too many emotions and a good dose of denial have prevented me from posting earlier, but I think it's time.
Thank you, Virtue and Angry Angels, for an experience I never could have imagined. Over 8 years ago, I don't think I even knew what a gamer was, although my boyfriend and his sister played online games all the time. They bought CoH shortly after it debuted and handed me the box while they jumped into the world of superheroes. I stared at it and the little manual for a long time, listening to them ooh and ahh and laugh. Then they began trying to entice me to play. Needless to say, with all the pretty costumes, it didn't take much and I bought the game the next day.
I was amazed and scared at this new world I had entered ... and I was hooked. The three of us had fun together on Freedom for a few weeks, but as many gamers do, they got bored more quickly than I did, became enamored with the next game on the horizon and stopped playing. I was sad, but I couldn't leave CoH. Whatever that other game was held no interest for me. I wandered around solo most of the time until I met a few other heroes. They "saved" me, and random thoughts of quitting went away. But then other things and real life took those friends away from the game too. After a year on Freedom and most of my comrades gone, I needed a fresh start. I ventured to Virtue looking for a new home. On my first day, within minutes, I met Angels, and I was saved again. From that day forward, I had a family. And even though many came and went throughout the years, Angels were always there.
Virtue and Angels taught me what being a gamer means, and I would like to think maybe some of us have redefined it over the years too. But they also taught me how you can find friends, kindred spirits, and an amazing community of people you might never otherwise meet. Thank you for that, thank you for everything.
I always said I would be here until they turned the lights off because this was my first MMO and I couldn't see myself playing anything else. Even though I spoke the words like I meant it and it wouldn't bother me when that day came, I don't think I really considered what would happen and how it would affect me. I have other hobbies, but none like CoH. This is different. This is special. Eight years is a long time, but it feels like it's been too short. I will miss this so much.
So again ... thank you Virtue .... thank you, Angels. You've been heroes in CoH and in the lives of many gamers like me.

Quote:Yes, Mr. Knight. I believe that is the problem. The main rules have been the same for years and make sense. It's the issues that come up during the event, and have come up every year, that were never addressed then, that happen over and over, and no one ever learned or bothered to pass on the new information to prevent it from happening again.I just wanted to thank everyone that came out tonight. Winners will be announced on Wednesday.
As for the concerns listed in this thread. I could address them point by point, however after reading them for the fourth time, and coming to the same conclusion, no direct explanation would do. We run the event the same way on every server. The rules are the same. We strive to make it as fair as possible. The Judges do not play on the server they are judging to avoid bias. No member of PERC can enter the contest. If some of you do not like the rules, then run a cross server contest yourself. Walk in our shoes and I will support you 100%. I think it would be great to have a Cross Server event to this scale that I might be able to enter.
The point is, we are all volunteers and running this to the best of our ability. If that isn't up to what you want or expect, then prove it can be done better on the same scale.
I used to run large events on Virtue, so I understand how difficult it can be. But I will say this, for every screw up or unforeseen mishap we ever had, and we've had tons, we took it forward to the next year and tried to fix it.
I don't care about winning either. In fact, the whole point of costume contests is pretty much the whim of the judges at that moment in time anyway. It's a crap shoot at best depending on the number of entrants. We've all seen the drama in Atlas Park broadcast on even the smallest scale.
It's about the experience and making it fun and fair for all. If those who entered this year had fun, then yay. But it's hard for me to see it after 2 years of being present myself to experience the problems and hearing the same complaints from different people (not my personal friends, either) again this year.
You have you your opinion. I have mine. That's all it is.
Andra -
Oookay. I think I figured it out. You might want to put those down. You have no idea where they've been!!
Andra -
Hotdogs? I don't get it.
Are we really surprised there were problems again this year? I participated the previous two years and was extremely annoyed. So I avoided it this time. It only makes people mad and upset.

Wow! That video is still up there?
Ok, seriously. Who got motion sick watching that? I filmed it on my empath while buffing wildly. I didn't know it would get posted! I'm not a videographer by any means.

Miss Honey Dew storms around the Jaded Angel base shouting dictation to her assistant.
Dear Lord Recluse,
OMG! You have a freaking iPhone for heaven's sake. You could've called or sent a text message about Commander. I can't believe this. I didn't get to make a well-timed appearance to properly mourn in public with a new outfit and say goodbye.
Is there going to be a memorial or something? Just don't use any old person in the Isles. We have to check references. I can't be seen at anything tacky or below my social event status. You should keep that in mind too.
I know this great party planner in Paragon. We could totally borrow her for a bit. She's got great style and sense of occasion. Let me know. I still have connections over there.
Yours in evil deeds,
Miss Honey Dew
Miss Honey Dew signs the letter in dramatic calligraphy and bestows a threatening glare on her assistant along with delivery instructions. After wiping streaked mascara from her cheek, Honey tosses another tear-soaked tissue into a growing a pile that has missed the trash.

OMG! Who let Nimrod out of his box.
*stuffs him back in and secures the lid*
It's ok peoples. He just had a "moment." No need to worry. He's getting the best care that influence and infamy can buy. And some that it can't ... Dr. Vahz just rang.

So much fun! Thanks for organizing, Kegan!

From the other MSTF thread, I posted the following report of our attempt on Saturday. Note we used a number of AoE and rad powers that should have had some effect, but didn't.
[ QUOTE ]
On last night's MSTF attempt, we had 2 rads. One was running toggles on LR (helping the emp and tank) and I was running mine on the tower along with choking cloud just to see if this would help at all. Even with choking cloud mixed in, it did not keep the repairmen from healing immediately.
We had 2 scrappers, 1 defender, and 2 blasters on the tower. One of the scrappers was spines with quills running. We also had rain of something (can't remember which it was). Three people had AoE attacks of energy and fire.
At first we could only get the tower to halfway before the repairmen would bring it back up to 3/4. Then we had the second rad come back to the tower to help and could only get to a little under 1/4.
That was the most annoying thing ever. We had a good damage and good overall AoE action that would be torn through the pre-15 set up.

Make sure you are over the minimum on hold ATs if you are going to take down the blues first.
We've had a few past raids where losing blues before the greens made it nearly impossible with the particular group makeup that night to take down the greens at all. The greens just ganged up to keep each other alive. The green shields never dropped and it was a wash.
It hasn't happened in a while, but the raid ended up canceled when it did.
