Quote:I find it odd that it's more important you have a 3 month badge which doesn't really prove anything other than you paid for an account for 3 months. They dilute the player base with lazy morons...it's like inbreeding. The fact that you would favor a stupid player that doesnt take breaks over a skilled player that does have to pee or other stuff is foolish. As soon as I see a level 50 without the three month vet badge I ask for the star and I kick them out off the team.
I hold a vey stong policy on AE PL'd toons on my teams, that policy is that if they like to gains levels fast they can go with their own kind and stay in that ugly building (and not figurative...that building is physically ugly)
Especially since there are tons of vets PLing their alts. Although they may have extensive knowledge of the tram system, their alt is still new to them as it would be to anyone else who hadn't played that combo before.
I would play with a PL'd player who could learn over a 63-month veteran with a closed-mind. The mightier than thou stuff gets old.
Editing to try to end my comment on a more positive note. AE is like it is for now. In the meantime, play how you want to play, but shunning and avoiding someone based on how they leveled doesn't help the community it only adds to the problem. When you don't group with them where do you think they go? Back to the place you think they shouldn't be!!! -
I removed FF from my list thinking you do spend a lot of time bubbling, but once again I wasn't sure. Say compared to Speed Boost (if you happen to know) how often do you bubble?

Disclaimer: I haven't played the game in general for a very long time. I recently came back.
I'm someone who enjoys playing support sometimes. Well I used to...
I've played a emp in the past (long, long time ago) and recently picked up a kin, but I've realized I don't want to bother with directly healing and buffing teammates anymore.
Is there a defender combo that wouldn't involve having to do either? I've whittled my list down to these and tried to rank them by my preference (based on zero/very little personal experience or knowledge lol):
Primary
Radiation Emission
Cold Domination
Dark Miasma
Trick Arrow
Secondary
Dark Blast
Ice Blast
I've always wanted to try a DDD, but I like radiation also...Rad/Dark?
I keep wanting to say I want to play this for support, but due to it being hard to find groups I leaning toward a more self-sufficient soloer.
Any comments, suggestions? -
Quote:And as unfortunate is this was, it's just something that happens, you just have to roll with it. Players have been kicked for lesser reasons.3) I got kicked with no warning. This is what really bugged me. No tell, no team message. Nothing. I had to send a tell to another team mate to find out why I got kicked.
I still say no matter how awesome of a scrapper someone is, you need to take your teammate's into account to some degree. There's a reason why you can choose to do stuff in this game solo or with a team.
If you end up grouping with people that know how you play, they'll learn your playstyle and you theirs. You'll probably be happy.
If you continue to choose to pug, you're probably going to get kicked again. Not saying it's right, just not everyone gets or ever will get the "How certain scrappers like to play" manual when they subscribe. -
That might be the disconnect. Scrappers with BillZBubba's attitude but lacking his experience. I'm willing to bet there are more of the former and less of the latter.

I realize farms are like porn, you know it when you see it. But what are the guidelines to what is and isn't a farm?
-
The tank was wrong for kicking you without warning.
You were wrong for tanking the one thing the other player wanted to tank.
Let's also not forget, we're hearing the OP's spin on the run.
I'm sure if the tank were to replay the events it would sound a bit different. -
I have to be in a certain mindset to start my own team, because I've found many times it requires a level of *work* I don't want to bother with in my *game*.
If I'm feeling patient, starting a team is the way to go. But some days, many days, I don't want the headache. -
Speaking of "mild-mannered by day..." I have a monster hero and was thinking of making one of his costume slots human for how he used to be, but for some reason it felt like cheating. Anyone else do that with their heroes?

I had a crey still rat-ta-tat-tatting me after he was down last evening.

How about adding a bit of QoL on story missions? As it stands, it takes forever and a day for most newbies to get into this game, particularly since there's no travel power till 14 when they don't know they can earn one at lvl 5.
but I almost quit soon after starting because of the frustration involved in running around.

QFT and its not just this game. I hope I'm not outgrowing these kind of games, but I no longer enjoy spending time running around all the time - its hard to believe I ever did. -

It's the attitudes, for example calling them "AE babies", "braindead children" etc., that I feel works against what you hope for. Some already have a negative feeling toward anyone who has participated in AE, right or wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really do try not to be mean, condescending to the newer players who have yet to venture out of the architet and experience "the game the way it was meant to be." As for refering to them as "AE babies", this thread is really meant (IMHO) for veteran players to comment on the wave of newer players that have been brought to the game by the architect, and you vets know what I mean when I refer to an AE baby. It's not meant as an insult (well, a very small one at most), but a description of the playstyle that the architect (for good or bad depending on your point of view) has brought to the game.

And I totally understand. -

Anyhoo, I propose an exercise. Start a new character on another server, not using your existing support groups to find teams, etc. Just to see how it is for a new player.

this is making me rofflmao. we would do the same things we are telling you to do. of course new palyers shouldn't be skipping the tutorial either as that has loads of valuable info on the game. you do not have an argument here. there is m=nothing stopping a new player from reading the forums or asking in game about teaming and other things.
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess I keep trying to get people to remember what it is like to start a new game from scratch, without being "in the know"...but I surrender. -

The counter proposal is to ask, here on the forums in particular (since, after all, you clearly know about them) what good global channels are for teaming etc. The server-specific forums are your best bet for these questions.
You don't need to convince anyone that this sort of thing is harder without a support group. The point is that you can find support groups.

If I hadn't mentioned before, I continue to use the suggestions I've found here. Sorry if I didn't mention it earlier. -

joining the different chat channels on your server will net you regular mission teams. why do you think we would suggest them if they didn't?
[/ QUOTE ]
I have no idea, there was a mention of hami raids, I thought those were considered endgame.
Just to reiterate, I'm open to following the suggestions given. I'm just providing a different view of what a new player might experience. And lets not even get into those players who don't visit the forums.... -
[ QUOTE ]
another method is to join your server's badging channels. people usually organize hami/mothership raids and TF runs a lot out of those. Or find a good casual SG. all of this you can do by visiting your friendly server forum to find the info.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not saying any of those are bad ideas, but I'm just talking about missions.
I've joined 2 SGs, following suggestions here, and found myself to be more active than they are. Back to the drawing board...

It's like a catch-22 for me.
I go to the zones I'm interested in and ask if anyone wants to group I hear crickets.
I attempt to solo the stuff, which isn't enjoyable to me (my own opinion I know others love soloing).
I go to AP, say "lvl X Y LFT" and immediately get an invite and/or whispers.
I recently reached Cimerora and loved the build up of something sinister in the area as I talked to its citizens. Then to be unable to find anyone to do the missions sent me me crawling back to AP. I felt like I didn't have a choice.

Protip: Broadcasting isnt the optimal way to find teammates
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently not outside of AP.
Do you have any suggestions for the other zones?
[/ QUOTE ]
Some people have suggested going to AP and broadcasting that you're putting together a team for regular missions or arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll try both of those suggestions thank you.
And the irony is not lost on me about a suggestion to go back to AP. -

If thats not a perfect example of someone who isn't willing to learn

AE is to blame that he isn't familiar with PI, however AE isn't to blame if the other player couldn't follow simple directions. -
I just found TVtropes not long ago - I love it!

I didn't read the rest, but I bought the game because of wanting to try out MA (I was on a trial). So yeah if I bought it then they removed it? I don't know what to call it but it would be wrong for sure. -

Not saying they CANT learn to play....they seem UNINTERESTED in learning to play anything outside of architect farms.
[/ QUOTE ]
Odds are they will spend their gaming time there, quickly burn out and move on.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm hopeful that when they burn out on the architect, they will at least try venturing out into the rest of the city. I would be happy to help them learn to play, even if it means some frustrating teams and task forces...it would be worth it if in the end we end up with a larger, more active population.

It's the attitudes, for example calling them "AE babies", "braindead children" etc., that I feel works against what you hope for. Some already have a negative feeling toward anyone who has participated in AE, right or wrong.
I've mentioned before that I resorted to AE when I can't find groups for anything else. I was berated by someone in-game about it, only to end up grouping with them in Croatoa later.
I don't know what the best way is to "fix" whatever is wrong how AE is affecting this game. But the attitudes toward the players vs. the mechanic doesn't do the game community any good. -
How often are scrappers used as the tank for groups? The sole tank?

I guess my point is, it shouldn't take you 5 years to learn how to blast from a distance, take buffs or use sb.
I understand someone missing out on "important" things by not leveling up the normal way. But are you saying none of these players have a brain cell and can't learn how to play?
Now if you're saying AE is potentially ruining other content out there I'd have to agree with you. Because its hard to go from an almost ready-made group that gives rewards that match or better whatever else you can get out there, to begging to join groups for lesser rewards.
