Fault and Tremor are great powers. I use them almost every time they're up.
But then, I also love Build Up. Mine is slotted 3 recharge and is set on autofire so I dont have to micromanage it. It fires about once per fight, twice if it's a longer one, several times during AV fights. With Build Up and Seismic Smash you can come *this close* to one-shotting minions.

I did the same... -
I read your guide as I have a 35 earth/empath and the more I watch ice, the more similar earth and ice kinda seem.
My only comment on your empath portion - I six slot Healing aura, 3 heals, 2 recharges and one end redux. Makes for very very short recharge and when I am in teams where I end up being the only healer (not my intent but happens all the time) this has saved the teams bacon many times...
I love the kinetic powerset, but I have to say I find the Earth/Empath one to be amazing. I can get my way onto a team for either role, play aggressively, not only heal my team mates but myself, and have enjoyed this alt more than any save my main. (you never forget your first love.)
I have also levelled this alt far faster than any other and have to go to playing my others because he constantly outlevels his peer friends and SG mates! (again not ice, but I think it applies based on similaritie.)
Go Stoni and Jack! -
a great guide. I wish anyone making a stone/stone would be forced to read one of the guides out there. Stone is a great set built right, but can be very poor ill-designed.
For awhile I tried to help a lot of the stoners I came across, especially on the importance of TP with rooted/granite, but have mostly given up. My empath recently played with a 32 stone and it was beyond painful, as they didnt have TP, and refused to use Rock Armor, because she insisted it lowered HER ability to hit. (yes this person was 32...)
anyway a few comments and suggestions.
- first, great guide
Questions for Group:
- Build-up. I did take it, primarily from my Scrappi love of the equivalent. I didnt crunch the numbers but they seem decent when fighting in rock armor, which I do as soon as the mob size is decreased. Any other thoughts from others?
as a basic strategy I often TP into +2 mob in granite, whittle it down and then change to stone so I can attack much faster.
- Epics. would love some more posts on direct experience.
Build comments:
- stone skin, get and 3 slot your first few levels. No end, no toggle, all win.
-mudpots. definately echo waiting til you get stamina, and 1-2 slotting end redux
- taunt....your a tank....its a focused way to save someone in trouble....
- I skipped Brimstone and crystal as well.
- thanks for the tip on Granite slotting, I changed mine to resistance. Others concur?
- fault, I skipped.
- hurl boulder I love. Its a great way to pull, without aggroing whole mob like taunt does. A ranged attack is a also perfect when in granite to pick off someone not in aggro range.
Power Pools
- I take tough for many of my alts, its a waste here if you 3 slot stone skin and 4 slot rock armor, asap. I was a great meatshield from early on.
- Jumping/Fly. Frankly I think you should be discouraging these and only talking up Teleport.
- Teleport. Many people hate it as a travel power, your life will be beyond miserable as a SToner if you don't have it. Learn to bind it or put it in power slot 1-10 and its much easier to use - press and click. Put a few slots in it for range, and you have the fastest travel in the game.
- Fitness - one major detail you didn't mention. I highly recommend 3 slotting Swift as soon as you can. (used to six slot). It helps overcome rooted nicely, and then when rooted is off, you have a mini travel power right there.
Hasten - I respecd it out. was a mistake, even non perma. I just added it back. Take it prior to Granite and 3 slot it.
Also, many probably know, but I will add anyway: The Kinetic power SpeedBoost is your best friend. Make friends with every Kinetic you meet and bring them along. With SB you move normally with Granite/rooted and you attack chain is back to normal. (plus no end issues) You get all of the pluses of Granite and none of the downfalls. I sidekick a Kinetic friend and we BLOW through mishes.
happy smashing! -

I can't make any sense of this guide. I can't evaluate whether it is correct or confused as the language is so ... broken.

actually this brings up a something I am looking for
anyone point me to a decent guide or descrip on Damage Resistance vs Defense.
I did a poor job trying to splain it to some noobs in SG and realized it would be good to post on our website -

Nah, but it could be the most glaring (and could be detracting from the post) thing there. Atleast to me it is.

It has come to my attention that some folks dont understnde the difference between dammange resistane and dammage so i hoep this will be edicational.
Dammage is a value such as "fire ball does 100 dammage" (barriing resists of course) when you have a +50% dmg buff you do 150 (100 + 50%) however resistane is a different animal
resistance is based on percents, take say temporary invunerability it has a base 30% s/l resist meaning the base 100 attack does 30% less damamge or 70 points
when you add a +50% to TI it does not become 70, it becomes 50% of 30 so you risrist becomes 45%
now lets look at a power 6 sloted the last 3 slots give you 15%
that 15% of 30 is roughly 4.5%
or 34.5%

please tell me you spell so badly (dammage?) on purpose? it adds credibility to your post -

I'm on right now, and crush is doing ticks of five. It's harder to tell on gravity distortion because she isn't holding anything that isn't immobilized. That's with small groups so I can better keep track of things though. It appears to be five ticks as well. That would fall in line with the player controlled versions which are also each five. I'm kind of surprised that I never bothered to count the ticks before.

um how do you tell the gender of your Singularity? -

OK, this guide is pretty much null and void, too many changes to just write up a list, Version 3.0 will come soonish
Thanks for all of your kind comments.

I made a stone/empath in December, and he is one of my fastest leveling alts ever, just hit 31 today.
I would love to see an updated guide, more info on epics, revised info on what can be done to Stonie (does fortitude work? can he be healed?...I'll see in a level...)
The combo is powerful and Earthwolf has no problems getting a team. As an SG leader who often commands the mish, this build is also been helpful because I can quickly impact the flow of a battle with stones awesome holds/stuns/debuffs, as well as heal myself (aggressive playstyle) and team mates.
My 28 grav/kin troller may get the ole delete....
a few comments on my build that I have loved...
- I have 5 slotted air superiority...helps a lot to finish off end of melee and when I must solo (hunt mish etc)
3 damage, 1 acc, 1 recharge
- I 3 slotted fly (speed) and have fallen in love with fly. Bye bye SJ.
- I took the Fighting pool with Boxing and Tough. Lots of traditional trollers blast this, but I play aggressively and the defense saves my [censored]. I dont agree my archetype has to be squishy because Devs will it so. Works for me, maybe not for you.
- god I'd love stealth and/or TP friend....doesnt fit in my concept or build plan tho..
- doing ok without hasten, but would be nice....my current build plan has it at lev 35. -
can you help me unsquish my Avatar
I have tried a number of the upload options, none are working.... -

So far I hear many rumors about new power sets and the ones I hear over and over are: Street fighting and Shields.
While I guess they each have a cool power or two. I think neither seems strong enough to warrent their own power set.
May I suggest perhaps they would make good Pool power sets, as any hero should be able to learn how to use a shield or kick Frostfire in the jumblies.
I'm afraid I have not been here from the start but I do not know when the last time the added a power pool set was. I hope they will prove me wrong (lord knows it wouldn't be the first time) and come out with some kick butt sets.
What say you?

is there any solid source behind the rumor..? Dev comments?
is this i7? -
wow what a GREAT guide! Extra kudos for the addition of Tactics suggestions for each power, something I'd like to see every guide do. One of the best I have seen lately, many thanks!
-
I have a question, now having got my Dark/Fire to 16. How the heck do we stop knockback? I don't see any inherent power that does..?
I can take acrobatics I guess, but I read mixed posts on how well that works....
comments from experience..? -

This discussion really adds justice to the Devs getting rid of the SG member cap. That way every member of the group can have all their alts in the group and whenever they play, they will be able to bring in Prestige for their group.
Of course if they refuse to do this, then it would be highly logical to either reduce the amount of prestige that things cost or increase the yield of prestige from missions and such. Another alternative would be to give 50's a bonus to prestige since they no longer earn influence and most are shelved after they hit the 50 mark.
Positron said in a post that "why would anyone want to have anyone but 50's in their group." Well my answer to that would be because there are very few supergroups that can even fill the 75 member cap with 50's. Besides that a lot of people like to play alts instead of their 50's, so more or less people won't have an SG full of 50's.
I just think that they need to do SOMETHING about the situation as the game because a chore and not fun just to be able to do something in it that is fun. That's counter-productive in my mind.

Hurdle and CJ do NOT stack for vertical leap height. Tested myself on test server. And hurdles doesn't help your speed much in door and cave mish where the ceiling is too low for bunny rabbit hop moving. I take Hurdle when I have SS, swift otherwise.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hurdle gives a +19.54 + LVL*0.094 f/s increase to your horizontal speed (unslotted.) It also gives a +6 ft jump height increase.
Combat Jumping gives a +0.25 f/s horizontal speed increase, and a +8ft jump height increase.
They do stack (tested via parsing of demos files.)
By comparison Swift gives +5.20 + LVL * 0.043 increase in horizontal speed.
I don't have any trouble bunny hopping through cave and office missions but I guess that's a personal thing.
There is an excellent post here which breaks down and gives detail for every movement speed increasing power in the game, if you want more info.

Well thats interesting because in i5 I did standing test jumps with CJ on and off (with hurdle) and my vertical height leap was indentical. How can we have had different experiences? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
With Combat Jumping Hurdle is redundant. Swift means getting to mobs quicker without have to turn on Sprint and having it draining your endurance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not true.
Hurdle increases the speed you traverse the ground, as well as increasing your jump height. The increase in horizontal travelling speed just from having Hurdle running is greater than that provided by Swift.
Go test it for yourself if you don't believe me - get two level 6 characters to race, one with Swift and one with Hurdle.
If you're choosing between Swift and Hurdle purely based on which will get you from mob to mob quicker, Hurdle will do a better job, even if that fact seems less intuitive.
Hurdle also stacks with Combat Jumping, and once you get Super Jump, it stacks with that too, increasing your main travel power's travel speed.
Hurdle is the superior choice in every way.

hmmm. I have a lev 10 Dark/Fire Brute, and I gotta say he is amazing. I solo bosses same level easily and take on large mobs. Your slotting maybe the issue.
I did play a SS/Fire Brute on beta, and he didn't do as well. -

if you don't mind me asking how can you survive without end reducers in toggle and without stamina for so long and keep up a decent attack chain to hold aggro?

Its called taunt. 3 slotted. (distance, duration, recharge.)
