Dammage Vs Resistance

It has come to my attention that some folks dont understnde the difference between dammange resistane and dammage so i hoep this will be edicational.

Dammage is a value such as "fire ball does 100 dammage" (barriing resists of course) when you have a +50% dmg buff you do 150 (100 + 50%) however resistane is a different animal

resistance is based on percents, take say temporary invunerability it has a base 30% s/l resist meaning the base 100 attack does 30% less damamge or 70 points

when you add a +50% to TI it does not become 70, it becomes 50% of 30 so you risrist becomes 45%

now lets look at a power 6 sloted the last 3 slots give you 15%

that 15% of 30 is roughly 4.5%

or 34.5%

now lets expand on those notes

a 50 dmg attack at +50% does 75 dmg
a 200 dmg with +50 = 300

now lets compares theses to temporary unvunerability we cover what the +15 percet gets you on a base 30% now...

look at what you get on the passives (7.5% resist)

the first 3 ehancments give you 20% each the last 3, 5% each

so the first slot gets you a net + of 20% of 7.5 or 1.5%
now look at the last 5% per
5% of 7.5 = 0.375%

Makes you think do it?

Thanks for posting that. I still forget, even after all this time, how little those last few enhancements affect a character's powers.

now heres the scary thing look at TI 30% example 4.5% for 4-6

now look at RPD's 4.5 (1.5 x3)for the first 3...

your not seing things...

the passives are equal in buff for the first 3 to the last 3 in TI

Nah, but it could be the most glaring (and could be detracting from the post) thing there. Atleast to me it is.

anyone point me to a decent guide or descrip on Damage Resistance vs Defense.

I did a poor job trying to splain it to some noobs in SG and realized it would be good to post on our website

Take a look at Catwhoorg's guide, linked in his signature above, for a great analysis of Defense vs. Resistance.

Regarding the OP's bad spelling: He was trying to get some information out that is often misunderstood. Yes, the difficult spelling and grammar is distracting and makes the post harder to understand. However, some people on these boards have English as a second language, and a few actually have a learning disability. We should encourage folks to write well, but be nice about it since we don't know that person's background.
