How many of you will re-roll your Tank into a Brute?
How many of you will re-roll your Brute into a Tank?
How many of you will stick with your Tank blueside?
How many of you will stick with your Brute redside?
Why will you re-roll your Tank into a Brute?
Why will you re-roll your Brute into a Tank?
Why will you stick with your Tank blueside?
Why will you stick with your Brute redside?
I'm probably not going to make any more tanks. I don't like tanks. I like tank power sets. I play solo mostly, only occasionally teaming. I don't care about agro management. When I do team, I don't want to take the point. I play tankers as weak scrappers who are really hard to defeat.
I would have played more scrappers, but I don't like most of the scrapper power sets. I'm not much into swords, claws or spines. Strangely, I do like swords with stalkers, but you didn't ask.
I would have played more brutes, but I don't like red side much. I generally prefer all of the villain archetypes to the hero archetypes. I just don't want to be the bad guy very often.
So I will roll more blue side brutes, and play them like solo scrappers with my favorite powersets, which is what I wanted all along.
Actually, I got tired of waiting for Going Rogue. I don't need it. I've already started making heroic brutes, stalkers, corrupters, masterminds and dominators by street sweeping Skuls and Snakes in Mercy Island, then moving into the AE building to run heroic story arcs. Not going to rob a bank with these, not going to use any villain contacts. -
Just think of glowing hands that shoot magic bullets as part of the Dual Pistol weapons customization unlockable at level six.

Quote:Oh I know. I usually combine a couple of those and do them at the same time. I really like the Faultline and Stephanie Peebles arcs anyway. About half the time I do David Wincott and Flux's arcs as well. You know, for about 2 minutes of effort or less, you can do those, you don't get any automatic missions, and you get rewarded for it! What a deal!!
I was thinking of the last thread I read where people were hoping the developers would spend time revamping low level content to remove those specific missions. Adding some content would be nice but those missions do have a purpose. At least they reward you with a mission complete bonus when you do them. -
Quote:Y'know, I've been thinking about those 7 mission slots, and I've decided that number is so you can take, and then ignore the following:
Like the more mission slots. 3 is not enough ? Lets raise it a bit then. To, Seven!
So people can finally push their missions onto a big pile to forget about them. This is not a fantasy RPG, if your missions are to mean something and have a sense of urgency, you must not have such a huge stack. Why not 4? Or 5? If that then STILL isnt enough, it can still be increased to one more.
Go see David Wincott in the Hollows
Go see the Freedom Corps guy in Kings Row to learn about difficulty levels.
Go see the PVP guy in Skyway city to learn about PVP
Go see Jim Temblor in Faultline.
Go see Stephanie Peebles in Striga Island.
Go see the PVP guy in Steel Canyon to learn about PVP again.
That leaves us one empty mission slot to run the important missions. -
Between quitting Everquest and starting City of Heroes, I played Anarchy Online for about 6 months. Recently, just for nostalgia's sake, I visited the forums there. What did I see?
A thread about Anarchy Online is Dying!
And
A thread demanding that Funcom merge the servers!
Last Summer, I got bored and bought a one month Sony Station pass so I could play with my Everquest and Everquest Online Adventures accounts temporarily. Anyone ever hear of Everquest Online Adventures? It is Playstation 2 MMO, runs off of DVD and memory card. I was amazed that it was still alive. Still had an active albeit small population and all of its original servers. Still supported too, there was a patch note only 3 months old when I logged in.
So, in conclusion. No doom. -

I think Doctor_Bob has gotten the message by now.

Irrelevant observation that this thread reads the same backwards as forwards.

Obsidious, UnSub and Perfect_Pain all said that they didn't care much for the announced features. But some people singled out Perfect_Pain for personal attacks.
I don't agree with their opinions. I like most of the announced features. I didn't start an arguement with any of them because in my opinion, it is stupid to argue with an o p i n i o n.
And don't be patting yourselves on the back for being a 'nice community' when you are launching personal attacks against someone because you don't like her attitude. If you don't like her attitude, ignore her. That she annoys you doesn't justify insulting her. -
If you disagree with Perfect Pain, just disagree. Is it really necessary to give her suggestions to 'take a break', 'play something else', etc.? These seem like passive-aggressive personal attacks. And personal attacks are against the rules. They might be helpful suggestions, but not if you mean 'go away'.
If you are tired of her posts, you can ignore them in one of two ways. You can just see her name and skip the text, or you can use the forum tools to remove the choice from yourselves.
Or you could disagree without making it personal.
Perfect Pain wasn't the one who derailed this thread. Other people said 'meh' without provoking anyone. -
Oh, and I forgot. The developers hate Villains.

Muon_Neutrino pretty well summed it up, other than overlooking the complete endurance recovery when activating Domination.
Stalkers are very energy efficient if played as designed. Build up+Assassin Strike will single shot pretty any minion and most lieutenants. Kill the lieutenant, scrap the minions. The fights ends quickly, without using much endurance. Carry a blue or two for boss fights.
Brutes become very energy efficient once fury is high enough that they can one shot a minion.
Masterminds can fight without using any endurance with just their henchmen. They'll be more efficient if they support their pets, but don't really have to.
That only leaves Corrupters without some energy advantage, and they at least are more efficient than Defenders, due to their higher damage and Scourge inherent. -
I took a Psychic Blast/Mental Manipulation blaster to 50. It was fun, but not against robots or ghosts. Telekinesis is the most effective attack. Still, it was a blaster, so I kept blasting until they went down. It took longer than usual, that was all.
I avoided carnies, which is really easy to do.
The worst part was doing the Praetorian arcs. Long missions against Neuron's and Antimatter's robots were tedious. It was annoying enough that I started dropping robot heavy missions. -
Just once I would like to see a thread with 'Going Rouge' in the title to be about makeup.

Quote:And despite what Vetinari says, Vimes rigidly holds to the notion of right and wrong.+rep for a great Pratchett quote.
"And we will overthrow the cold tyrant and we will usher in a new age of enlightenment and fraternity and humanism and Ankh-Morpork will become a Utopia and people like Brother Plasterer will be roasted over slow fires if I have any say in the matter, which I will." (Pratchett, Guards, Guards)
"I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides." (Lord Vetinari, same book)
'They think they want good government and justice for all, Vimes, yet what is it they really crave, deep in their hearts? Only that things go on as normal and tomorrow is pretty much like today.'
-------Lord Vetinari (Terry Pratchett, Feet of Clay) -
Quote:Well, if it bothers you I recommend you try playing a villain, they have fewer missions of this sort. Fewer zones for that matter, only 7, as opposed to more than 20 hero side. It does get better with a good travel power.I'd be VERY happy if the next issue addressed this. I've only been playing a few weeks, and I'm already sick of running everywhere just to say hi.
You can also do AE missions to fifty. You can avoid traveling, except to visit the trainer. You have to sort through lots of bad missions to find a few gems though.
But since you are new to the game, you might enjoy the unique atmosphere that each of the city zones possess, as run back and forth saying 'hi'. Its us old-timers who've seen it all a hundred times and more that should be jaded. -
Quote:I must recant. I had a low level scrapper hanging around Kings Row. After running the safeguard mission, and visiting my neglected initial contact, I picked up Juan Jimenez and Paula Dempsey as contacts. After dropping the Visit David Wincott mission, both of them offered me the Perez Park Security Chief mission alongside other missions as well.I guess I either got lucky or my memory has betrayed me again. I don't recall ever getting another mission from a contact after doing that one. Mind you, I quit doing that one a long time ago, so its probably bad memory. Level so fast these days I can't do all the missions from level 5-9 anymore. Especially because of three radio missions+safeguard to get a raptor pack.
Madness Mage mezzes are easily beaten by break free inspirations. The bigger problem is the large spawn sizes, combined with a mix of bosses, lieutenants, and minions. However if he was around level 14-15, that wouldn't have been a problem, unless he actually found a large group of 14s.
Sort of getting sidetracked though. I do agree that it would be nice if someone would modernize these missions a bit to reduce the annoyance factor. I'm just quibbling over details, as there has been a bit of exaggeration about how bad they are. -

Just today I had Paula Dempsey refuse to give me anything but that mission at level 7, after doing just one mission for her ( which wasn't even her badge mission ).
Not really, especially if you lack mezz protection; there's usually 1-2 Madness Mage bosses in each group. If I can't avoid the mission, usually I'll spend a mission skip on it; it's not worth the aggravation fighting hazard zone sized CoT spawns on most of my characters at that level. Generally I end up having to run all the way from the Atlas hospital multiple times if I do it the hard way.

Congratulations! I'll try this out soon.

How do they do it? How do they know the weekends when I'm going to be working overtime or out of town? I hardly ever leave my home, and yet they always manage to schedule these things when I'm not!

Quote:Contacts in King's Row are levels 5-9. You can't avoid the David Wincott mission, except by visiting David Wincott first. The Perez Park Security Officer mission, on the other hand, you do not need to accept. If the only mission he offers is the Perez Park Security Officer mission, then you have either done all his other content, or outleveled his other missions. If you have outleveled all his other missions, the mission to defeat 10 Circle of Thorns in Perez Park should be easy. (Its CoT, not Hellions. Hellions would be much easier.)Reminds me of somthing that I've done once.
Went to Shiny New Contact in kings row (forget his actual name, he's on a roof with a big metal ramp leading to him) with my New Awsome Blaster.
SNC: "Go see David Wincott in the Hollows"
NAB: "Huh. I just got sent to you for work, but ok. What the heck"
Off I go to see David. I decide to head back to SNC.
SNC: "Good job, now go and talk to the Perez Park Security Officer"
NAB: "You sending me off to sombody else again? Ok, fine"
Once more I trot off, this time I have to "arrest" some hellions in a zone thats designed for group play... with a squishy Blaster...
Joy.
A much scuffed and irritated NAB: "Ok, I'm back from your pointless run about mission. How about some real work?"
SNC: "Sure, but first I want you to go and talk to the Bloody Bay-"
NAB: "No! Enough! I've had it with you! I'm going to find a new contact! One with actual work!"
I tune into my police scanner, do that hero thing and get a New Contact in Kings.
NAB: "Hey there buddy ol' pal. got work for me?"
NCB: "Yeah, I need you to talk to the Bloody Bay representative"
NAB: "Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff-"
Face Palm Combo
Bloody Bay is a level 15 mission. If you were 15, the Circle of Thorns in Perez Park should have been no problem. If you were 15 why were you talking to contacts in Kings Row?
