SpeedFan, among the many things it does, is test hard drives.
Also, running a disk check would not be a bad thing. -
-
This game is 2.8G total download to start, somewhat less if you have install discs available.
During play, some amount of information is passed through your internet connection to play. Since I played this game on dial-up, it's not a lot.
Anyone monitored CoH net "traffic" during play? What's your cap? -

Quote:Neurolinguistic Programming. Suggestion. Ventriloquism. Hypnotism. Old fashioined manipulation and lying. You really like to nit-pick don't you.
Sure, it's possible to come up with a concept that would let you define pretty much any powerset as 'natural' if you wanted to. But that doesn't change the fact that if you want to play a normal human character with no superpowers, some powersets fit that archetype better than others.
You said yourself that most of the concepts of a non-superpowered human controller fit better into a tech or science origin (i.e. a normal dude using advanced technology). Wouldn't it be nice to have a control set that fit the 'just a normal guy' archetype without all that mental gymnastics?

I'm not the most up-to-date on lingo, but that one means nothing to me.
Welcome! -
If the team is diving into group after group with no deaths, complaints or close calls, the tactics are correct. You win, they lose.
This is more likely to occur on higher level teams, with experienced players, with lower difficulty settings, with easier enemy groups.
However, if this approach is resulting in significant downtime due to deaths, then new tactics, like your suggested pulling, may be in order.
(You know about the inherent "Rest" power that everyone has?)
People vary drastically in what they define as "good xp/min", "fun", or "minimal causalties." Some folks don't care how often they die, and some don't care how much xp they get, and some don't care how much mission downtime their is.
If you aren't liking how the team is functioning, start with suggestions on tactics, and what your concerns are.
At low levels especially, taking a breather once in while to use the Rest power to get back health and endurance is perfectly fine.
As a team member, you have every right to bring up concerns in the team channel, and suggest tactics. You also have every right to leave a team.
You can also form your own! -
I'm concerned that since CoH keeps getting better and better, with more features, powersets, options, and difficulty settings, that it will eventually swallow the universe. How can we keep CoH merely awesome, as opposed to it consuming all existence?
I'm concerned that when I'm playing CoH 30 years from now, in my retirement home, that I will require a special keyboard with large print letters. Will one be available? -
Yes indeed. 8 deaths total, no major screw-ups.
If I had done a bit of research, and pre-mapping of the Chantry, we probably could have done it in 1:30!
Thank you to all participants!
EDIT: By the way, anybody got a record time for Justin Augustine? -
In fact, the Fifth Column can now be seen duking it out with the Council on the streets of Steel Canyon, and Independence Port. I suspect they can also be found anywhere you usually find the Council, except for Striga.

Echoed: Allowed. However, everybody on my team has to fight/blast/buff/debuff/contribute!

Are you familiar with the changes brought on by Enhancement Diversification in Issue 6?
I"ve tanked the ITF several times on Inv/Mace. Tough and Weave never present.
I have all nine Inv powers slotted for capped resistance and defense. Also, Dull Pain for maximum recharge and heal.
Or, you could post your build, or post it in the tanker forums for assistance. You should specify that you are using a SO-only build. -
Check out the Nominees and Award Winners for the recent Architect Awards.
I especially recommend "Redoubt Operations #1 and #2." Also, "Astoria in D Minor".
Also, the Saul Rubenstein Discount Task Force. Funny stuff! -
Had a friend hit 50 while on the Positron Task Force.
Made the half-joking challenge for him to get a character to level 10, and then get to 50 ONLY doing Positron! -
You can shut off xp gain if you are concerned about outlevelling a specific mission or contact. Or rack up some debt.

Also to add:
Supersidekicking!
When on a team, when a mission is selected, everyone on the team is either boosted up to the mission owner's level -1, or exemplared down to the mission owner's level. So, when forming a team, the level range is much less important.
(Task Forces and trials work slightly differently, but we'll get to that later)
Please note that everyone can still get xp.
For example, my team is consists of a level 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50.
The team leader selects a mission held by the level 30 player.
The level 10 and 20 are "sidekicked" to level 29. They don't get new powers, or enhancement slots, and their enhancements probably aren't as good as a level 30, but they can contribute to success.
The level 40 and 50 are "exemplared" to level 30. They have powers they had at mission holder's level +5, or 35 in this case.
This is a great feature, as it allows you to easily build teams of very different levels, and everyone gets rewarded. Sometimes, higher level people don't like to exemplar down as they lose powers, and chances at higher level drops.
Everybody gets xp, except the level 50, who is level-capped. If exemplared, you have the option to not gain xp, but instead gain double influence. You can also shut off xp gain completely, if there is content you don't want to outlevel, or for any other reason you like. (yeah, levellling is that easy, and there is so much to see!)
Levels happen. Play the game, have fun! -
I'm having the same problem.
Log in, select server, it sticks for about 30 sec, and then gives me "Cannot Connect to DBserver".
Support contact, Net-tool run, info attached.
Fingers crossed.
EDIT: FIXED!
Went into Avira Firewall settings, set City of Heroes as "Privileged" and "Allowed", not "Filtered" and "Ask". -
Can I have some hero names, so you are easier to recognize?

On Saturday December 5th, starting 9am Eastern, 7am Mountain, Sentai Solid will be hosting the Justin Augustine Task Force (44+) for any interested.
This Task Force has no AVs, although a bunch of EBs, features Shard locations (so flight, teleport or jetpack recommended) no simul-clicks, and a tonne of hunt/courier missions!
I plan to complete it in under 3 hours, 2 if we do good, and would love to have you along.
Please meet by Justin Augustine in the Chantry.
This Task Force awards 42 merits, and the Protector of Kindness accomplishment badge.
I'm going to hold 2 spots for friends, but if they don't show, it's open season!
1) Sentai Solid (ice/ice tank)
2) reserved
3) reserved
4) Ravenous33 (enrg/elec Blaster)

"You must learn patience, Ed Gruberman."
"Yeah, yeah, patience! How long will that take?!?"
Seriously, let it do it's thing, as long as it takes.
This game is a metric tonne of fun, and has a great community to boot.
As this game evolves, it has gotten more customizable, larger, crazier, and with a huge variety of challenges and activities.
If you have any questions or concerns, there is the help channel.
Type /hc Where can I get a jetpack? for example. -
Me and Burner24 formed a team to complete his (spoiler!) Vanguard Traitors missions. You want a challenge? Try taking on Vanguard with a melee hero or villain.
THEN we tried to fight Sefu Tendaji. URGH! Hits like a truck, HP like a tank, and KB effects that shove through Shield Defense Mez resists.
Yeah, we found a challenge.
You know, been playing for a while, and I was actually glad to get my butt handed to me. Forced the team to shape up and work together. Met some good people as well. -
Alt-Tab around and make sure your security system isn't blocking the download.
