Quote:I agree. I think a lot of people do.All other badges have it pretty much written in stone the requirement in which to attain said badge.
Bughunter does not, even sites such as wiki and Badgehunters have a hard time finding a requirement for this badge other than devs discretion. No badge should be awarded in such a way, it leads to distrust, if this badge was for all to gain, put the requirements out there for all to see, not just hand it out willy-nilly and expect people to recognise it as a legitimate badge to get. -
Quote:Oh, it was simple. However this one had a tiny bit of tricky timing involved. Enough that the QA person returned with a dozen questions, and I included all that correspondence in my PM to Positron.Only necessary if the method of doing it isn't simple. And this was very very simple. All it took was 3 lines to tell how to do it.
Edit:
Seeing I know this particular problem was fixed: The "simple" explanation is that within 10 seconds of loading into the game it was possible to repurchase the Vanguard Salvage sack (actually anything you bought from the Vanguard tables). I had characters on test that could hold 120 salvage on the test server before issue 21, and on live I could hold 90 before I21. That +10 salvage is still on that character.
Edit 2:
Yeah, I know I might not be the first to give the information to the developers about this one, but I did give a detailed explanation. The QA person couldn't reproduce it without a detailed explanation of the steps even though I could reproduce it myself. -
I included a 2 page explanation, with pictures and reproduction steps with my PMs to the red names.
Edit:
I recently mentioned to a redname on the test server a glaringly obvious bug related to the market window that was fixed within 2 weeks (if you accessed the market window via the menu, the account/cart/etc buttons wouldn't show).

They didn't know about it, then they tested that themselves. It was immediately scheduled to be fixed, it seems. -

Quote:Good, I wasn't the only one.I'm sure he means the latter one, but yes I read it as the first one too initially.

Quote:Same, and I've found and reported a number of very exploitable bugs. One bug I spent a year trying to convince any redname from Ex Libris to Positron that it was a repeatable bug. I could repeat this particular bug 100% of the time, and expand salvage far beyond what was available at the time. One character could carry 120 salvage before Issue 21's upgrades. And I've been in quite a few closed betas but no Bug Hunter badge yet
I accidentally found it on live and that character can still, without having bought any salvage storage increase, hold more than any regular character. I only did it once on live before I switched to the test server for further tests. -
Quote:I think your punctuation use is confusing.I got CoH:CE AFTER i21, no issue, time and items on my account.
Is it: I got CoH:CE AFTER i21, no issue, no time and no items on my account.
Or: I got CoH:CE AFTER i21, no issue. Time and items were applied on my account.
They do mean two different things. -

Quote:Well, the official explanation is this:I'm sure this is asked before but...
I feel like the trial rewards are based off of how well you perform, either by Damage or by Heals.
Now, after 525 trials, I've noticed a disparity of trial rewards. Some of that can be attributed to faulty calculations for some ATs (my Master Minds were showing a a lower distribution initially because they weren't able to match the participation metric), but not all.Quote:Hello everyone,
As I mentioned in my previous post, we have been looking at your feedback and our own internal data and coming up with some improvements for a few aspects of the Incarnate System. I'd like to thank you for patiently waiting while we sort out the details, some of which I go into below. Before that, let’s address some general concerns that have come up, particularly in relation to the reward system.
- All throughout beta and since Issue 20 went live, we’ve been tracking data on the reward system. After evaluating the data since the launch of Issue 20 we’ve found that players are being rewarded with the Uncommon table more frequently than we anticipated. An adjustment for this that improves the availability and frequency of Common, Rare and Very Rare salvage will be included in an upcoming patch.
- The participation system's primary function is to qualify players for the component reward tables.
- Once a player qualifies for a component reward, the final block of choices presented to the player are rolled randomly. If you qualified for a component reward, you reached the level of participation for yourself and your league needed to have a chance at any component type.
- We will continue to monitor the data from the trials, and if we find instances where this is not the case, we will correct them to ensure that this is the case.
- It has never been possible to guarantee that you will receive a Very Rare. Once the participation system has done a handoff to the random table, it no longer has any effect on your reward. While reports of multiple Very Rares are not unexpected, these occurrences are evidence of consistent league success combined with a large amount of good luck.
- The 10 Thread table is present to make sure that everyone receives something for their efforts in completing the trial, regardless of whether they had to leave their computer temporarily, suffered numerous disconnections or any of another host of circumstances that could happen when content is out in the wild.
- We are aware that this also awards the door-sitters, which leads to the perception that this is a consolation prize.
- We are also aware that this is a point of consternation, because it is possible to get this table through acts of nature or acts of league beyond your control.
- The second item above is exactly why we felt it was better to offer some minimum tangible reward (which is the equivalent of half a Common component) to everyone for their efforts, even if they are affected by events beyond their control, rather than reward nothing.
- You are cooperating together against the challenges of the Trial. Rewards earned by you at the end of the trial have no bearing on what rewards other players can potentially receive. This is not a case of “there are only so many Very Rares to go around.” There’s no group loot table: everyone is rewarded independently and has the potential to qualify individually for a Very Rare. If your league does well, and you are a factor in that success, this will only increase your opportunity to earn a Very Rare component. You are not in competition with other players.
- To illustrate this in a different way: team and league contributions for completion of goals found in the trials are an extremely important part of your overall individual participation score.
- When your league is successful, you are successful, and your efforts at achieving goals help everyone else in the league. A rising tide lifts all boats.
- This aspect of the system is why people can sometimes seem to be rewarded for aberrant behavior. Your league has succeeded in meeting the goals of the trial, and their success carries over to you.
- Earning a decent individual participation score does not require an immense amount of effort, but it does require consistent effort. This is specifically because we are aware of the limited nature of some power sets in regards what they can throw at the enemies encountered.
- We know that leading one of these trials can take significant effort on the leader’s part, which is why our threshold for participation takes that into account.
- We also actively monitor the data from the trials to assess whether the thresholds are achieving what we hoped. We have made adjustments in the past, and will continue to do so as necessary.
- Four things that definitely do not affect your level of participation:
- Tagging targets
- Healing points or damage points
- Interrupting powers mid-cast
- Cycling powers on and off
- Any success that may have been achieved while performing actions which do not affect your level of participation listed above is, as noted, due to the success of your league and random chance.

Quote:From December 11 (This was the first time, to my knowledge Fusion Force, myself, and a few other players tried TPN):We had twice as many toons in the league than in the picture. We, I think, were about to be only the SECOND ever successful TPN on our server (down to last defeat of Maelstorm). Then BAM! A very nasty bug hit the whole league. Then we decided the civilians in the trial were correct and we had to #OccupyPocketD
Quote:I'm not sure if this is really the right place to post this, since it's no longer in Beta, but I figured it would get noticed here regardless.
Fusion Force, and a few of our allies on Triumph, had our first TPN Campus trial tonight, and we ran across a pretty significant bug.
We were using the strategy posted by Winterminal here: the 2nd post in the thread.
We were doing quite well and had made it to the final confrontation with Maelstrom, when suddenly many (all?) of us lost connection to the mapserver, and eventually disconnected back to the log-in screen.
When we tried to log back in we would receive a message that were were already logged in. Then when we could reach the character screen and try to log in our particular character it would say were were in the process of logging out.
A few minutes later when we finally got back in, and clicked LFG and Rejoin the Trial, we were put into a Sewer Mission where you fight Desdemona!
The entire league had been disbanded, but the weirdest thing was we were on an entirely different mission!
It almost looked like a Morality or Tip mission that featured Desmadona. But the entire League was in it. Solo. We reformed.
It was very bizarre. Quite a spectacular bug. A few /bugs and /petitions were sent.
Sadly it was too late for everyone to run another.
My first impression was TPN is very fun! Looking forward to completing it.Fusion Force did have a completely successful run of TPN on the 19th, but I was already committed to another group.Quote:Additionally, the characters were rolled back to the state they were in before the trial started. It was a tip mission.
Edit:
All times Pacific time, Triumph Server.
Crash time approximately: 12/11/2011 8:55:04 PM
Time I was able log back into this character: 12/11/2011 9:00:25 PM -
Rebirth Core Epiphany (tier 4) or Rebirth Total Core Invocation (tier 3) are faster than the Arena and getting the 400 PVP rep badge. And you can do it solo in about a week, though more targets = faster progress.

Quote:I agree. Unfortunately cross server teaming has a lot of technical issues to overcome, as well as a host of social issues to overcome. Arcanaville and I have had some interesting discussions about some of them over the last few years. I can see her point about some of them. However I'm still trying to think of a way to make the namespace issue acceptable to her, let alone the developers.there HAS to be a way to make it more efficient and involve more people who WANT to do the END GAME but cant due to time zone/server size.
I agree that there are great players on every server. However there are poor players on every server as well. Throwing the mix blindly (blind LFG cross-server) will only cause more problems than it would fix. -
Quote:I've been on a number of villain-side CoPs. They play exactly the same as hero-side CoPs.If it was like the Cathedral of Pain, and there for limited to Heroes only
While the buck (mostly) stops at Matt's desk, the two most directly to blame are Baryonyx and Arbiter Hawk. -
Quote:Yeah, it is expected. Though I'm kind of surprised that there are only two of them.As Snow Globe will attest, its also not unexpected in any discussion about badge requirements.
Not everything is proof of developer incompetence. I try to limit direct accusations of incompetence to areas where I can render a professional opinion. The market interface, the forums, and the website are big problems for me. Internet security for another, but you have a higher standard than I do for that.Quote:There will always be people who think that everything they don't like is proof of developer incompetence, and everything they do like is just perfect as it is.
I might disagree (loudly) about some things the developers do, but overall I'm getting value for my entertainment money. -
Quote:Badges have never meant dedication. They've always been a fun collecting mini-game.You are all trivializing badging. Everything in this game is easy. I've always used badges as a measurement for dedication. It is now failing as that measurement because you all are complaining about how hard it is. Of course it's hard, if it was easy it wouldn't be worth getting. You can be frustrated, irritated, agitated, or down-right infuriarated but don't tell the devs to nerf more badges cause that makes everyone a loser and puts the game on easy mode. And if you wanna play games on easy mode, go get yourself a My Little Pony game and get outta here cause you're ruining it for everyone else.
PS. By the way, Empath being reduced to 10 million wasn't a nerf. It was bringing the badge into line with the design intentions. Positron once said that they were expecting a dedicated healer playing for 5 years to earn the badge through regular play. My Empath did exactly that: earned the badge in 5 years with dedicated play, without needing any AFK farms. You might want to trivialize the badge by farming it, but knock yourself out. Rebirth Destiny has done more to trivialize the healing badges than the developers bringing the badge into design specs. -
Quote:Villain history progress bars do not show for Vigilantes/Heroes.Should be earnable, as far as I know - the progress bar might auto-hide for heroes/vigilantes though. Try hitting up Technofreak - it's all in Cap
Hero history progress bars do not show for Rogues/Villains. -
Quote:From what I've seen, anyone outside the hospital can be the target of the obliteration beam. Not inside.I heard that the Oblit beam can target even in the hospital. I was skeptical of the claim, since the hospital strategy appears to be one that has been successfully employed.
The ONLY way to be a target of the Disintegration beam is to be in line of sight of Anti-Matter. So if you are a master mind, summon your pets outside of the truck depot, preferably behind a wall.
Everyone, even those in the hospital, will be affected by the Time Stop. -
Quote:I'm sorry, I really wouldn't want to inflict a completely random group of players from all servers to a difficult trial. Unless trials are designed like the Halloween trial, I can see a lot of grief spread over all the servers as UG, TPN, and MoM can all be failed by one person.Question to Snow Globe..what do you think about the iTrials going CoX wide for queing up a trial?
Have everyone have at least the Alpha level shift, preferably with the rest of the incarnate slots powered. Have a defense based tank for the final AVs, and a decent support character or two. Other than that, practice. -
He's on a timer.

Quote:Yes, it was the third try.On Triumph I had every Keyes badge except that one in just a couple runs, and then we started going after that badge specifically. After the third failure in a row, I foresaw exactly what you experienced, and suggested the strategy a lot of runs on Triumph now use. I suggested we park the league into the hospital and then send out the minimum strike team capable of taking out Antimatter. Doing so would basically be sending out the best goo-avoiders only, and would allow them to spread out so that their power effects did not obscure the ground making it easier for people to quickly spot the Obliteration patch. The first try we didn't have enough damage: we went a little too low (tried it with four). The second try failed. I believe the third try succeeded.
-
Quote:No, my response was directly to what I quoted, specifically to this point:And i guess that is to my "Within days of these coming out, i farmed MoM for a good 4 hours or more, while going for each and every badge on each run. Most of the time we get 3 out of 4 per run, even with some on the league who were not level shifted yet." comment..
I know Triumph's trial runners, and I'm known to most (if not all) of Triumph's trial runners. Up until the Underground, I was leading all sorts of trials. Up until Issue 21 and the Underground I never had the level of frustration with a 75% active failure rate for a trial. During Issue 20.5 (Jun 28-Sep 12), I ran Keyes 41 times, with failures total. One of those was due to a bug (AM got stuck in a upper walkway) and a GM not arriving in 10 minutes to fix the problem. From September 13 to today, I've ran 20 Undergrounds and 11 of those were failures. Actually 12, if you count the one time we exceeded the time limit of the last battle. Given that leaders generally (not just me) were not being listened to, my desire to run the UG dropped to nothing. Quite frankly, that feeling progressed to TPN (though I was fortunate enough to find a capable group of players for that run, even if the servers crashed before we finished it), and to the MoM trial (where people once more demonstrated that they didn't want to listen to instructions).Quote:i know u know at least one person who can do it on your server.
Let me be clear: There are a handful of good trial leaders on Triumph, and I'm one of them. Until the Underground, I was the one showing the OTHER trial leaders how the trials worked. -
Quote:By the way, that also appears when he despawns. The nature of the game is that if something despawns the last person to get a hit will have that message. This will not result in a badge.Edit: If you still have the '<player> has defeated Scrapyard' message in your rewards log, copy and paste that into your petition as 'proof' that he did die.
Edit:
Also there is the 10% total damage, if you didn't do at least 10% damage. That is, if he was attacked and then left alone several times, it is possible to not get the badge even if it appeared that you did 100% of his health. This frequently happens with the Jack/Eochai fight in north Croatoa.
