    2) The legend of Drake's Drum. Legend has it that Sir Francis Drake promised should England ever again lay in peril, just bang on his drum and he would return from the dead (along with the rest of the English Fleet that faced the Armada).

Isn't that also Arthur and a host of other various kings/warriors/belly dancers?

Yes, there is also a magical scottish flag that summons an army of invincible fairies when waved.

The owner offered to stand ready with it during WWII, in case the germans ever got over the channel.

I think I saw an ad, but it looked *exactly* like 2. Are they using basically the same graphics? Because the graphics difference between 1 and 2 was massive, obviously, so I can't really see much more evolving to be done.

I usually only step into Sims when I want to design a house, lol. I own all the original 1, and about 3 of the sims 2 products before I realized "i don't really play this game nearly enough to warrant this much spending on it..."

I did however manage one time to reinstall 1 *over all my downloads* which it *deletes* to make a new directory tree when reinstalling.

40 THOUSAND files. Over 2 years of collecting items and outfits online... gone. I so cried.

Up, Up and Decay - The Secret History of Superadine. As shown in PagaonWiki, there are a lot of secrets about dyne that aren't in the lore. Apparently whatever was discovered in the original dyne lab in Boomtown was so explosive Statesman and BABs swore it to secrecy. The cat could come out of the bag and fill in a lot of info about who really created superadine and for what purpose.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    SPOILER

Can't recall where I got this from, but a) they were using the brains of the Dyne addicts to explore other dimentions. The guy who founded Portal Corp was one of the clean-up crew that was sworn to secrecy, who use that info as the basis for Portal tech.

    b) The Family was also given Dyne supplies. Don't know if they were given it mysteriously or not. But they have a 'cleaner' variety then what your corner gang dealer is selling.

EDIT: Linkies: CoH: Other Worlds Discovered
    CoH: Family

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm aware that Superadine experiments unlocked the discovery of interdimensional exploration, but I don't believe the 'who' behind Superadine has ever been explained, nor what the originators of the drug were doing with this discovery.

I seem to recall this being an actual Nemesis Plot.

  6. I suspect that the effects of Superadine depend on your psychological makeup: To the trolls it gives super strength, regeneration and durability. To the Skulls it gives "Dark" powers, etc. etc.

Shouldn't Mako's powers be Mutant in origin? The vomit is cool, and the armour’s description can be rephrased . . . but Spirit Sharks?! It boggles my mind.

Mako is a Coralax though.... (or a Hybrid, or whatever) they seem pretty magic-ish (remember the Calystix arc?)

And what about the natural origin? I'd like to keep some of my characters true to their concept. I suppose I can just skip a Patron all together, but I fear that will severely hinder my characters' abilities to engage in Player versus Player combat, something I was hoping to get into.

Uhm, Black Scorpion's Mace? It's generic enough to work for anyone.
  9. Agreed, have fun: Unless you're in the totally wrong timezone (like me ) you can usually get a PuG relatively easily no matter what you are (though Defenders are always in demand, of course)

I'd say Blaster is a relatively good choice for a beginner (my main is a blaster) Defender requires you to be a bit more vigilant and know what you're doing (as, while effective, the tools you bring are a bit less straightforward than "fireball 'em in the nuts."

    Happy gaming though!
  10. My *villainess'* themesong is clearly Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation".
  11. Fun. Maybe I'll submit something.

    Just a question:

    A) Is it okay to write about villains as well as heroes?
    B) What exactly does "PG" entail? I'm not up to date with american rating systems (and at any rate they're fairly different from our european sensibilities) What would be the limits?

    Specifically:

"that have had doctrines refined or corupted and bit made up out of whole cloth."

It's the 'made up' part there, in regards to your comment, that's the problem.

The way Idioteraser wrote it, and I am doing my best not to put words in his
mouth that he didn't type in this thread, he implies, In My Humble Opinion, that
those who became Christians saw the Old Testament and thought "we know better,
and we'll incorporate it in our book, and make up a few things too."

The New Testament continues God's relationship with man, and is not an
expansion pack by a different team, for lack of a better term.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is YOUR opinion, and it certainly does not represent hate speech to question it. Hate speech would be to say "Christians are doody heads and must be killed."

For one, the mere historical *existence* of Jesus is rather sketchy...

    [/ QUOTE ]

And to put my two cents in on this issue, since I find it very hard to stay out of religious dialogue these days, is this:

To go along with Penitent, The divinity of Jesus wasn't decided until about 486 years after his death, at the first Council of Nicea. At this point, there were two factions of Christians - those who thought that Jesus was the son of God, and the other that thought that Jesus was wholely human. It was voted on at the council which was true. So while it may not be "made up" it is not necessarily based on facts that modern Christians believe Jesus to be the true son of God.

And that being said, don't think that it is just us Pagans that have been saying nasty things towards others. I think it was Lady Sadako (spelling?) that said "Yes, anyone calling themself a witch is laying themself open for abuse"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually there was also the group (monophysites) that believed The Son and the Father where of One Nature (the "orthodox" position is that they are separate but the same) the arians on the other hand believed God the Son was created and not "born" and hence not of Divine Nature (though higher than any Man) while the nestorians believed God the Son and God the Father where separate but both divine....

    It gets *really* confusing.

    Blaster role

As an eng/eng blaster I've noticed that If I want to be able to compete I basically have to alpha-strike. I can snipe with the best (and it deals respectable damage, especially if I have others to take attention away from me) As long as I can keep an enemy knockdowned I'm OK, but if they get up on their feet I'm dead.

You started off saying that there's all these people with anime-inspired avatars telling us to have faith in the new options.

In a later post, you say that Cryptic is doing this in an effort to attract anime fans that the game doesn't currently have, and that the options aren't "for us."

Aren't you making two seperate arguments that are mutually exclusive?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really, but I can see how you could creatively come to that conclusion for the purpose of argument.

I've said several times in this post that there is a section of the current community that would benefit from an all anime costume update. I'm just saying that that style translates more largely to the asian market and would make CoH, overall, more acceptable in them.

Yes there are people currently playing that will heavily enjoy the anime style. I have not, at any point, denied that. All I'm saying is that theres also people that currently play that have no interest in it and it leaves them with nothing gained.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not every update will give something to everyone.
They added a Maple-Leaf to the costume options some time ago, that doesen't help non-canadians much (I still want my three crowns!)

I've no use for Kheldians, as I'm barely halfway to level 50.
Etc. etc. If you don't want stuff, don't use it. Simple as that. Just because I won't use a particular set of added content doesen't mean that content isn't good.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is of course, a good statement. But I think when we come to something as intensely personal as new costumes you have to look at it.

So the Canadians got a Maple Leaf...thats great. I've got no real problem with that because I've got a ton of chest emblems and I almost never use one anyways.

Entire costume upgrades have been what people have more or less asked for, hoping to see them in nearly every update so far. They've been put off as low priority since release.

Costumes are our characters. The ability to be new and different all the time is what makes the game so good in the first place. The problem is the current options are largely worn out. New ones at this point in the game would be highly welcomed by everyone I'd think.

Kheldians don't matter much to me because I never get to 50 anyways, maple leafs aren't that big a deal because its just one item.

A whole update of anime stuff though is different. Its hard to ignore the fact that one of the biggest things you wanted is coming in a fashion in of which you won't use it.

At least to me it is. I don't speak for everyone, of course.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Point is, I'm pretty sure you'll get your content in time. "He who waits for something good never waits to long" eh? The point is, just becuase *you* or someone else isn't getting exactly what you want right now that doesen't mean the decision is bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just may get my content in time. My concern is that it won't be until sometime next year after all the CoV issues have been ironed out.

I could very well get my content in Issue 4, because I could be wrong and there could be tons of stuff in there thats not all Pikachu and Love Hina and DBZ.

But if I4 is all anime, that means its going to be a very long time indeed before I get my content. And patience in internet and most especially MMO terms, is about 90 days really.

Regardless, I'll keep playing the game, because its the only one I really like. But you can't blame me for making my case for what I'd like to see in a costume update. If roles were reversed you'd possibly do the same thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Put it like this: Issue 4 is the only issue that I'm getting really excited about (PVP and new costume options! Doesen't get much better than that!) if "patience" is 90 days then I certainly has been patient, as I've been playing the game more or less since launch

I just cant believe that there wont be anything that is going to trip your trigger when the new costume stuff comes out ...people are ragging on new free stuff just because someone put the word anime in it ... good lord maybe if this is how we re going to react everytime they try to implement something they should stop putting things like that in the game ...(would be counterproductive though) and I realize its only a few people on the message boards and the great majority of people who dont even come here will probably love / not even care one way or the other about the new costume options .... ah screw it ... i cant believe ive typed this much on it.... you all enjoy your pity party im going to enjoy the new content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely agree. Just, what does this have to do with me? I'm absolutely for it, anime or not. I've been making an [censored] out of myself to drive that point home

But really, it's the same with EVERY expansion. For I2 it was capes, for I3 it was the boss changes and Invulnerability. For I4 it will be costume options. People just need to complain. Better that they stay on the boards complaining than coplaining in-game over broadcast.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah i know ...and I really shouldnt let it get to me but it seems so damned ungrateful ... because they DO NOT have to do things like this for us ... EQ is huge and they charge 30-40 bucks everytime an expansion comes out .... Coh could just as easily combine 2 or 3 issues and then charge 30-40 bucks for em

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. As I said before. You are wrong.

They do have to do it for us because they said they would.

If they suddenly stop doing it, they've broken their promise to their customers.

Free content updates were part of the games sales pitch since before the game was even released.

Yes EQ charges for expansions. Part of CoH's appeal to the MMO customer base is that Cryptic would do the same thing for free.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That doesen't mean you have to like it.
They *do* offer you new content, as per their promise, if you don't want to take advantage of it then that's your problem.
