The Family Villain Backgrounder
I seem to be having problems with the backgrounders link.
But the Classified File is pretty cool!

Go here then.
Awesome!
If just for the fact that it references multiple things (an exploration badge, events in The Web of Arachnos, among others).
And it finally explains the confusion surrounding Superadine and Family bosses.

Yes, the link is wrong. You should fix this ASAP for security reasons.
Correct link is here
You know what I was really hoping to find out in this article?
An explanation of why/how Consiglieres are gravity controllers.
Ahem.
Nothing to see here...wiseguys.
Should be fixed now.

Harry, it is believed, confided to his close circle that he didnt want this lifestyle for Sebastian. He wanted something better, or at least more legitimate for his heir.

"Senator Frost; Governor Frost. Well, it wasn't enough time, Sebastian. It wasn't enough time."
Love the backgrounder....great read, great story....the Family are, IMO, the best of the underused villain groups.
Not as enamored with the case file info...a bit sloppy and disjointed, although nothing terrible. Really, the only part I didn't like was the suggestion the Sebastian is a super-powered being...
I like the idea of the Family as a "classic" villain group (gangs, guns, and street crime). We've got enough "supers" to deal with that I want to keep a few standard villain types around.
Overall, though, great great stuff.

Or why all their Tommy-guns eject the shell-casings backwards... and with the bullets still attached to them. Talk about ultimate mis-fires!
Woo hoo!!
I was just out keeping the streets safe, and I didn't even see the person with the camera snapping away. It always feels good to be appreciated by the citizens of Paragon City, even if I'm not saving the world, only keeping some organized crime off the streets.
(In reality, my friend took the picture. She was a winner in the Contaminated contest, Bedlam Belle. I had taken *her* winning shot in that contest. We had best be careful or we might raise suspicions of paying off the judges.)

"Pure" Superadine?

And/or Black Market Tech.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Pure" Superadine doesn't seem very consistant with what we know about Superadine's effects. This article essentially attributes the Super Strength of the Capos and Underbosses to the more pure form of Superadine. The less pure form gives Super Strength as well, but causes physical changes (green skin, goblinization, etc.) and reduced mental prowess shown in the Trolls.
Now there are also Troll bosses which have powers I don't believe Superadine caused... Stone Armor/Melee. Those powers are a bit thematic given various mythologies of trolls as creatures of the earth and in game I tend to think of them as having some degree of modern shamanism which explains those powers (as evidenced by the drum dance and such).
Gravity control as an effect of black market technology seems extremely high tech for what is predominately a low-tech crowd. I'd believe it more from a Sky Raider, Crey, Arachnos or Malta boss than one of the Family. Mutation could be a possible explanation, but to have such a consistent mutation among that level of Family seems highly unlikely.

This is the same drug that, in a small percentage of the users, lets you see into other dimensions. Increased strength is clearly the primary effect, but not the only one.

That's pretty clear if you've read Freedom Phalanx. The "mysterious benefactor" uniting all the organized crime groups in the 1920s was Nemesis, and we know from elsewhere that Superadine is one of his inventions.

I'd say Nemesis.
I have no actual backup to support that claim, but I blame Nemesis for everything. I swear it seems he's been responsible for over half of everything that's happened in Paragon's history, and more. Hell, it's probably Nemesis' fault I woke up before my alarm this morning. And I'm sure it was part of some grand, over-arching scheme to collect the unused sleeping energy of the world's populace to fuel a hypnobomb or somesuch.

...oh crap, does this mean there really IS a steam-powered hypno-bomb?

Just curious what the source for this is, because I haven't read the novels and I do know there are some missions/storyarcs I've missed on the hero side. I very well could've just not come across this information.
If it's this quote from a history plaque...

This building was once the lab of Dr. Brian Webb, the brilliant scientist who broke the dimensional barrier and opened up whole new worlds to science. His notes reveal that his findings were linked to previous scientists' research on the effects of the drug Superadine. Much has been made of this discovery, but the link between the drug and the dimensional barrier remains a mystery.

Aw, man... with all the hints about Spanky Rabinowitz's deals with the mafia while he was mayor I was hoping for a little more on him in this too
Very nice read, though!
Bathrobes, A3, escarole and cannoli couldn't all fit, but we included what we could to bring the story of Paragon's Mafia to light.

And please note the (long-awaited) winners of the Family player screenshot contest - Lektrik and Robin King. This is a long time coming, but those were great shots. (See them in the Classified File). Thanks to all who entered, and congrats to the winners!
