Given this is a stated Concept test. I had it and dropped it things were dying so fast I tried turning it off and on to see how much it seemed to help. It did not seem to make a noticeable difference in most fights. We killed things very well with or with out it. There were a few that it helped but in this build it was just and END drain.
If I was doing more Sonic or sonic primary out side this concept then I would not skip it.
I am not saying its a bad power it just did not fit. -
I went with Mu to get S/L/E Resistance and Power sink for those drawn out fights where I need the end bad. Plus power surge is just so nice.
-
I have a Fire/Sonic and while its not a build for everyone (aka no Aid Self) I have had a lot of fun getting to L43. I expect to have even more fun getting to 50 and then a lot of post 50 play.
This is what I am calling my Armored Corruptor. I took all of my Fire attacks except the Snipe and Nuke. Sonic Side I only took Siphon, Dispersion and Liquiefy. Filling in the gap is pools. Fitness for Stamina. Speed for SS, Hasten. Fighting for Boxing, Tough and Weave.
Leaping for CJ (KB IO), and SJ (IO mule).
For me every Villain becomes an IO project at L30-32. I focused on ranged defense and ACC.
For me this was a fun what if project. The highlights are 67%+ S/L and better than 50% Energy resistance. Not to mention 17% Resistance to everything but Psi and some decent mezz protection that I share with close teammates.
Through IO slotting and powers I manage a respectable 38% (can and will go higher) ranged defense 36% energy. With everything else being around 10-15%.
You are not a team Buff/debuffer unless they are close to you for dispersion. Your mostly just blasting or putting a Siphon on a hard target. Liquefy and Rain of fire together are just a lot of fun to slip around a corner.
It took some time to get serious waiting for Charged armor but it was worth it. Play up to L42 was still fun but I knew 35% S/L was not going to mitigate a lot of damage.
I have teammates who have not read my Bio which explains the concept build. They cannot figure out how the Corruptor is still standing when they are not. Most when they look at my powers have no idea what it means.
Muhahahaha.
While I have managed some good numbers I have no Defense debuff resistance. I still have to be careful of LB sonic's etc. -
For what their supposed to be good at or what people actually use them for?
-
Well I think I see the problem. While some like to play heroes and hero play styles red side round hole square peg. Granted with enough force the square peg will fit. Its nice that the game is so flexible to allow this many play options. As it was said they like to play like a controller locking down everything. I have a RL friend who is into Mind total lock down and it works for him (fun) so I only kid him how long it takes to defeat stuff every now and again.
Red side its been my expereince that mind is great for a lot of things. One of the best things it does is causing Chaos. Instead of locking down the entire spawn. I focus on removing the most problem causing opponents. Be it a boss Sapper etc. If the team your own cannot take out the rest of the spawn after you have removed critical targets then you may want a new team or (if your high enough to have both cones) show them how to mop it up.
Brutes like to be attacked so I do not go for complete lockdown. The more fury they have the less work for me. I just need to help them not take as much damage or remove targets that cause them problems.
If the team has a stalker I try to watch the targets they stage on and then remove another high value target instead.
On a decent team things are dying so fast is it worth it? Or should you be helping out with more damage?
On the use of mass hypnosis I agree that its not a lot of use in a rolling team. It is great for that extra aggro or ambush the team is not ready for. Mind has a lot of control options
that can adapt to a lot of team styles. From total lock down as mentioned to rolling death teams that your the hard targets remover. Succubuss NP I have her. -
If I was building Resistance based Corruptor I would not got with Dark. Dark has a lot of tools that are just to much fun to play with.
Instead I chose Sonic. A friend of mine described my Fire/Sonic build as going the hardway. Since I did not take any healing powers. But other than a few oh$hit moments here and there as I leveled up things went smoother than I anticpated. Once I got a little armored up and Started my IO project the character really took off. So much so that getting to the PPP armor did not take to long. Since getting the PPP armor and its Resistance was a large part of the concept I could not wait and pushed on over the last two weeks.
Now that I am L44 the character has fully come into its own. I know its a very niche concept character. As the concept was to build out an Armored Corruptor. I also have this in the characters BIO. Few read it. Most cannot figure out how I am the last one standing on the team or that I have more S/L resistance than the average Brute.
This is not a concept for everyone but given how long I have played the game it was a fun diversion to try to build to this specific goal. While I had fun and am enjoying the rewards of the long wait its not a project or concept for everyone.
Concept and focus was getting the most useful resistance possible S/L and Energy with a secondary focus on ranged Defense. -
I have a SM/Elec and love it got him to 50 a few issues back. But I went with a speed brute single target beat down. I eventually took tremor when I got to that level. I then added to it with LF. He skipped stone fist in favor of Air Sup. I commited a sin and skipped termor (concept issues) and taunt. I took BU for the times I need a little more To hit or a mega Seismic hit.
I did take Hurl, so if I need to I can use Mu lightning, Hurl, Nemesis staff and Black wand to fight a little stand off.
On the Electric side I skipped Surge. I did take tough (I never take aid self).
I have a rotating combat style for him that works great and I do not miss not having better AOE. Seismic the boss, Air Sup the LT, apply mallets to select minions and back to the boss. He feels very smashtastic. -
I love my SS/ELec/Mu and she is my main villain and main crafting character for all my villains.
I took a S/L defense focus but I just could not super focus on it like the softcapped example already shown. I did manage in my 220M build (my current INF cost) to get 29% S/L.
I have to admit she is a ton of fun and I fear Rikti swords a lot less now.
Slightly OT: What I find funny is for a resistance based set I can have more S/L resistance with my armored Corruptor than my Resistance based Electric brute. -
Quote:/Agree it sounds like COH compliment fishing.Sounds like he's one of those people whose Mentality gravitates towards Hero Team Dynamics. I agree, it's wholly out of place in a villains team. Suffice to say, I would have had some quite choice words to say in reply to his smug self-satisfied compliment fishing.
While they can play what ever way they want as long as their having fun don't expect me to complimnet you for it. Since VEATS I have seen tons of people who have an obvious COH mentality to COV game play.
I have found its better for my fun to avoid them. I might play a mission or two before I leave for more fun places.
Newer players I will try to coach but anyone with at least 12 months I ask a few questions to figure them out before I decide. Most of the time its off to my own fun pastures.
Healers COV side. We need Corruptors not healers just like we need brutes not tanks. -
Quote:Can you make them stick to a certain area or resist Taunt? Aka they wont come into shallow water. Now it does not solve fliers but they could have a leap out of the water attack so watch your height.Up until it was determined that because sharks couldn't leave the water that players would undoubtedly herd them up, lead them back to the beach, and then slaughter them for risk-free XP.
The idea of a ranged attack was kicked around, but after the friggin' lasers was veto'd that whole project lost a lot of steam.
I mean we need Sharks with SUPER POWERS and Friggen lasers on their heads.
Slightly OT: I was reading the short run comic the Abyss and in the super villains lair they had a fish tank in the back ground. Yup sharks with lasers on them. -
Quote:My main hero is a Stone tank. I do love the feel and look of Granite, my character goes from a short guy to the full size. I also like the feel of being on another team and seeing a granite tank.
What I don't like though is being on a team, mothership raid and seeing more then 1 granite running around.
I trust that you guys will make the new armor look great and could still use the Science pack to hulk up to full size.
One thing that would be a cool option is to give a Halloween custume type power with the Granite armor as it is now to every stone armor powerset, it would be no different then running around looking like a Freakshow tank. That way everyone could have what they want.
This is a very good idea allowing them to keep the old.. kinda. -
Quote:I do not play Stone Armor for this very reason. Granite takes my costume away. Image and how the power set "Feels" are very important for me. Getting the character to look right is important. A trip to the tailor saved my favorite character when she was L5. Before she was my favorite. For those of you with Stone Armor characters, how attached are you to the current appearance of "Granite Armor"? There are a number of issues with Granite Armor that could be elegantly solved by changing the VFX of the power into something more akin to the other armor toggles in the set. IE, your player model and costume wouldn't go away, there would just be a new set of 'Granite' armor pieces overlaid.
I haven't made any decision to do this, it's just one of the options for dealing with the multiple issues we have with Granite Armor and I wanted to get a sense of how many of you guys wouldn't be able to adapt to a change like this.
Before anyone asks, no...we couldn't have it both ways. -
Quote:Some of us have been having connectivity issues since late July. This had a serious impact on the DXP weekend. I have had an open ticket on this since then. I highly doubt its a CO issue.Even though i play on US servers, im still EU, and i highly doubt this double XP thingy is anything but propaganda vs CO.
EU ppl play cox, play games in general, create games, and or distribute games... (EU companies such as Ubi soft, are about to launch Aion and more...)
And they (EU dudes) wont get the XP x2 event....
I dont know if the word 'derail' exist in english, still,
I believe that not being truthfully devoted to a (monthly paying) fanbase is a mistake, in any cases.
This is just my opinion. -
I almost forgot it had been so long.
For a short time I tanked for a few stalkers. Run in COF on and gather up a few and it was AS city. They loved it I would get the slow kill on which came to be called the Freak Cook Out they would mop up and I would mitigate quite a bit. -
I have a SS/DA it was my first COV character and after I hit 40 I stopped playing it for a year. I would try everynow and again and get a level but the END costs were too frustrating.
IO's helped fix a lot of that. Plus a few accolades. The problem was I wanted to Speed Brutes. But DA plays slower for me. Not to mention what happens to your END when Rage and hasten crashes happen close together. Then tag on 17 END from a Dark Regen and you have dipped pretty low.
My advice is be careful with the timing and END use of certain powers. Shut down what you don't need.
And get a -4 KB IO recipe slotted in there. -
If it comes to late for scrappers then I am having a hard time understanding why its fine for Brutes?
Scratches head. -
Quote:I know they do not have baked in Defense debuff. Which was why I was mentioning it. Since the set had no other mitigation (other than possible END drain).Elec Armor is a purely resist-based set. Resist-based sets do not, generally speaking, have baked-in defense debuff resistances (the notable exception is Invuln since it's reliant almost as much on defense as it is on resistance). I think this power change will be for the better, but we'll have to give it a shot during open beta to see exactly how it plays out.
Electric armor suffers from Defense debuffs and can end up taking a lot of extra damage from quite a few sources in the game. Electric has no other way to mitigate this damage increase. I know others have methods to cover this I guess this change is to provide a heal and cover this hole.
I was just hoping to have some other mitigation other than Healing. I am sure I will want the new power don't get me wrong I had just hoped for a new direction. Rather than the give it a heal. Making Electric more of a Debuff resistant set. -
Got a ticket already I am waiting on a response that does not question my hardware.
I tried to spell it out in my Ticket what I was experiencing. That I had ping plots that showed packet loss and sudden surges of delay.
Were still on page one of their check list and I am having to tell them everything I already told them but put it in the proper blank. -
Quote:Exactly I have had to move to Champion which bites because all my work, Extra slots and INF stockpile are on Infinity. Along with all my RL friends and a decent VG. If they cannot clean this up in the next couple weeks I will put my account on hold till they can clean it up.I really used to enjoy playing this game, but now I hardly stay logged in because it just doesn't look cool to see all the side effects of the packet loss (failed animations, jittery characters moving on screen, endless power cycling icons, etc).
I know I can play on other servers but its not the same as playing your favorite characters. Or playing with your RL friends. But playing when its this bad is no fun. Going to another server just doesn't cut it. -
Count me amoung the numbers of people having problems and netgraph red spikes on East coast servers but not West.
I thought this was a problem with my local computer and spent last week trying to figure it out. Updated my video and sound card drivers on the 2x weekend. -
Quote:Where do the packets drop for you? I have been getting a lot at llnw.net specifically iad.llnw.net.
My problem seems to be between tenge13-3.br02.sjo01.pccwbtn.net and the Plaync server or with with the PNC border. Its hard to tell but it looks like its either at their end or their border with their ISP.
I find it funny if i ping plot to an EU server it goes through tenge13-3.br02.sjo01.pccwbtn.net as well.
When I run netgraph I only see packet loss with the East coast servers and not with the West coast which pretty much confirms what I was seeing in ping plotter and my play experience as well. -
This would be nice my connection to the east coast servers was so bad I quit early. Since Pinnacle and Infinity are my main servers this is very discouraging even to normal play.
-
I have logged a ticket on this issue but hold out little hope for a quick fix since people seem to have been complain about it for a few weeks.
-
Well I am interested to try this out. Its not what I had hoped for Electric but I will have to try it out.
I had hoped for a little more S/L resistance and resistance to Defense debuffs. The things I find cause me problems are usually when my defense is way red. For those of you who watch their defense values. In short order I can be taking twice the damage I was at the beginning of the fight. All because they cannot seem to miss me. Not because my resistance is suddenly weaker or I cannot heal.
I am certain this will be helpful and I will find a way to make good use of it. I am disappointed things went this way but not surprised since this has been what the masses seemed to want. -
Same here. I ran Netgraph on all the servers and only the east coast servers seem to do this for me. This sounds like the east coast server problem a few of us are complaining about.
If you run /netgraph 1
It will show you any packet loss as a red blip on the bar graph. i would bet you only see this problem on the east coast servers.
