I'm apparently one of the few who actually -likes- Flambeaux. The intro mission for the Shining Stars, where if you hustle along to keep up with the timing of her rambling dialogue, is a thing of beauty.
Quote:You want an NPC that talks down to you? Go play the Redside version fo Twinshot, the Graves arc in Mercy.I don't understand how you can hate the SSAs when they have more personality than the entire phalanx combined.
Twinshot talking down to you? Gee, it's not like she's a veteran from a secret military organization while your some fresh faced hero.
Given the option of the pre-Freedom generic nigh all encompassing responses that you had for most mission contacts, and the post-Freedom funny-yet-written-for-a-specific-character responses, I'd almost go with the former. -
Quote:Superman, Batman, and the X-Men are also mires of continuity and retcons and hundreds of supporting characters at their worst too, y'know.A movie could and should not be too closely associated with the tv show. It's one thing to do Star Trek, where you had a five-year show and then continued the story ten years later across six movies. It's entirely another to try and explain nearly thirty years of television, eleven actors, a few dozen companions, the Time Lords and the nature of time travel as it works in the show in a single movie.
Doctor Who isn't as ingrained in mainstream culture to the point as Superman is, where you can ask virtually anyone who knows who the S-shield belongs to and they can give you the most pertinent facts about the character. That's why Superman: The Movie worked so well. People knew the story and didn't need too much explained to them. Doctor Who...at its worst, it's a mire of continuity and regeneration.
...
But this was also my biggest hurdle to watching the show, I was under the impression you needed to start from the beginning, a la Star Trek. (I was also confused as hell as to why there was a different guy with the same woman in some of the ads.) Sure I grew up with the original Star Trek, but these days I just have a... thing... about shows from that period. Hell, even now, after having seen most of the "new era" I -still- doubt I'll ever watch anything pre-9th Doctor.
That aside, no, I don't have any faith that Hollywood could pull it off. The producers meetings alone would be the stuff of nightmares.
So this Doctor Who guy...what kind of a name is Who, anyway?
Well that's not his name--
--then why is he called Doctor Who?
He's not. He's only called the Doctor.
So why is the show called Doctor Who?
and
So he has this living ship that can travel through space and time--
Oh! That's good! Let's see some design sketches.
*holds up a picture of the TARDIS*
...what's that?
The Doctor's ship, called the TARDIS.
But it's a box. Where are the engines? Lasers? Those sorts of things?
It doesn't have that. The Doctor doesn't--
--so what does he do in it if he doesn't fly around in space battles?
He travels through space and time.
Hmph. Well, how big is it? Don't some villains on Star Trek fly around in cubes?
It's about the size of a police call box.
A what?
*explains, and points to the words on the TARDIS*
Uh-huh.
And if you stop and listen, you can almost hear the internet screaming at the thought of Bay-formed Daleks. -

Contact me on my global if anyone's interested in having a villain to RP against. I might roll up a new version of Agonus too, dunno yet.
Quote:It was only open from 11/10 to about 2/11. I actually worked there from about Thanksgiving to New Years.Since the thread has been thoroughly hijacked at this point, what the heck.
Google Maps shows a comics shop in Altoona; Comics Unlimited at 213 Park Hills Plaza, behind a Denny's. Has that closed, since the map updated last?
Just a thought, from down here in Florida.

Quote:Best of luck! I've never been brave enough to promote my comic there with an actual table, so I've stuck to cosplaying for the past few years. >.>Went this past year, it was still pretty packed. I'm planning on going again this April; I got an artist alley table to promote Wootlabs. :3 We're getting a Sci-Fi/Comicon at the War Memorial in Johnstown this year, too. Crazy. I never thought the War Memorial would host anything but bad hockey.
But I do intend on trying to parlay my involvement with the Dark Knight Rises into more sci-fi/horror indie movie roles. It'll be tricky for the 2012 show though, as the movie won't be out yet. -
Ah, right, there is that. Wonder what'll happen with the Pittsburgh Comicon now?
-
Don't you have a comic book shop though? Closest one for me is in State College.

Well, the character Agonus (see link in my sig) is sort of retired for now. My current main villainous work-in-progress is Astronian, a cross between the Sentry and the Plutonian (basically a hero who goes crazy and turns evil). But I have all sorts of characters whose names don't begin with the letter A, and I'm sure we can work something out.
And fwiw, I'm also coordinating a new(ish) comic book supervillain RPVG. Contact me @the new black or the leader @drimble wedge if interested there. If you do talk to Wedge, just tell him I referred you. -
So what sort of antagonists you looking for? I prefer playing villains, but I'm also one of the 6 players on Virtue (yes, 6, I've counted) who actually, y'know, likes RPing against those of a more heroic inclination.
Also, Johnstown? Wow, not that far away from me. -
On the subject of Kinetic Melee, I'm looking to get something clarified. I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that essentially, KM "penalizes" you for taking non-KM attacks. Is that the case in any way?
I've been thinking about a KM/EnA Scrapper, and what I would normally do is take Air Superiority, but is there something to how KM works that would affect AS negatively? -
Currently, either

Good Thing - Fine Young Cannibals
Some of my characters have specific songs I associate with them, but so far this one just puts me in a good mood. -
This started with Praetoria and has spread to the rest of the game for me.
When loading a character, the loading screen for whatever zone the character is in will take significantly longer to load than it used to. It started taking a minute or more, when it used to take seconds. I blew this off initially as whatever causes the lag in Praetoria, but now it happens redside and blueside and much worse.
When I try to load any character in any zone, after approx. 5-10 seconds or more, the bar on the loading screen will stop anywhere between 5% to 90% and boot me back to the log-in screen. When I try to log-in again, I get a pop-up saying the account is already logged in. Trying to log-in again gets me to the character select screen.
This happens at all times of the day on every one of my characters, whether I'm running any other programs on my computer or not. Sometimes I do manage to load the game on the first time, some times I still can't log in after 10 tries. I also have the same loading problem for missions (which also take longer than they used to) and especially when teamed. This also happens going into Pocket D.
The only time I don't get this loading lag is when I make a new character.
Now my internet access hasn't changed, and I haven't changed any hardware either, and everything else internet related works fine for me. So any ideas if the problem is on my end or if something else is going on here? -
Quote:This, pretty much. Though the initial impression I got when this whole thing was announced was to not buy any more boosters. Only one left of any real interest to me is the Animal Pack, and, well, the thread here has answered my question about what to do there. If it's important to you to have everything an original Booster Pack included then yes I agree buying all of it a la carte will be more expensive in most cases. But I'm convinced in the long run the old idea of "bundles of items" will become outdated. People in the future will end up only buying the exact items they want which may either be equal to or even less than an original pack cost.
...
And yeah, my guess is that the Booster bundle model will be gone. Now, in theory, a single "piece" or set can be released when it's done. They don't need to wait for other things to bundle it up with to release as a pack. -
Somewhat related thought I've been thinking about. Mainly in regards to AT and powersets, how would you do a Dalek?

Ghost Widow

Lord Recluse. I've always wondered something though. Is the purple under his armor a bodysuit or his skin?
Dr. Vahzilok
Clockwork King
Hero 1's zombie look. Can't really explain it, but I've always liked it.
Dislikes
Reichsman. He just looks too much like M. Bison.
Needs an update/overhaul
Sister Psyche. Nothing says mental powers like a costume that would make pop starlet blush. Hmmm. Waitaminute.
Manitcore. The design on the tights/leather is just too haphazard, in addition to his... sorta... simple... costume coming across as unrelated to the idea with his name. Yeah, a manitcore shoots things from its tail. Manty in the game is an archer. Makes sense, but that's about the end of it syncing up. He seems to have spent all his money on getting that "lions mane" cowl and then just grabbed a leftover leather outfit to finish the costume.
Maelstrom. Maybe it's just when you compare him to some of the original designs, but I've always thought his armored costume is just a little -too- armored and busy. When I think of a modern day guns expert, I think of, well, something like Malta Gunslingers, not a guy that's a hat away from being a full on power armor looking character like Positron.
Just needs a little tweaking.
Statesman. Just make it a full helmet instead of the faceplate and you're good to go. -
Quote:Considering where Bane is from, it makes sense that he adopted a luchadore costume, lucha is -huge- south of the border. But maybe I'm a little biased, as I used to enjoy pro-wrestling back in the day. But it seems like they're ditching the luchadore inspired costume for a more militaristic look anyway.Dr. Bane Lecter, brought to you by the makers of Hobo Joker. ... Yeah, not so much.
The really ironic thing is that Bane is a stupid character anyway - I mean, seriously, steroidal luchador criminal mastermind, what? - and yet the prospect of a wholesale revamping of his personal style... doesn't make him in any way more appealing.
Ah, well. The whole Nolan Batman franchise has been one big writeoff for me anyway. Just have to bunker down and wait for the next revolution of that particular cultural wheel.
Were these pics taken in Pittsburgh? -
Quote:The first thing you think of when you see black and white facepaint is KISS? Oy. Must be a generational thing.Man, that cover has me flashing back to the 90's in the worst way. From Harley's "we're-not-even-TRYING-to-deny-it-anymore" fan-service costume, to her dyed hair and KISS makeup, to the extra gear on Deadshot that would have Cable giving him envious looks.
It reminds me of the G.I. Joe Extreme toyline; where they all looked like steroid deformed wrestlers.
Anyway, ANYTHING is better than Deadshot's previous abomination of a costume.
-
Or you could be in my situation. I finally got a call to actually be -in- the movie (one month of waiting down). Which means waiting for another month for a possibly last minute call when they tell me when they need me for filming. Then after that, it's waiting for a year to actually see if I'll get to see myself on screen.

Quote:Captain Marvel's costume is the only one I can think of that's largely remained the same since he debuted. The biggest change that costume has had, as far as I know, is alternating between having a buttoned flap on the red fabric of the chest, and removing it so the red looks more like tights. (To differentiate Cap from Superman, iirc.)...
So
What costumes do you consider Iconic?
and
What do you feel about them changing Iconic suits?
And as far as Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Spider-Man and the like, they've ALL had little tweaks to their costumes on a consistent basis over the years. Take Superman, for example. The "core" of the costume is blue tights, a red cape, and the S shield. How those are arranged, and what's been added in with them has changed a lot since he debuted.
I think the point of contention here is that you're thinking all these characters have an original costume that they've stuck to. And they don't. Hell, I've seen websites that detail all the changes made to Superman and WW's costumes over the years. Never looked for it, but I'm sure Batman and Spider-Man have similar pages. -

So am I on the right track here? Trying for a mix-ish sort of build with a focus on S/L Def. Ignore the IO level numbers while I get the hang of Mids. And spots have been left open for the more expensive stuff.

I'm not going to be able hit the cap any time soon, and I don't really feel the need to play my Brute at max difficulty. So what's a reasonable amount of S/L (and what, E/N?) Def to settle at to run around +2/+4? 25%? 35?
-
Can someone post a sample build? That would help as well giving me a good idea on how to aim for what I should be slotting.
-
Cool. Sounds good. Lemme know the character names (or whichever way you prefer to be contacted) and I'll go from there.
-
My lvl 50 SS/WP Brute could use a pretty much complete overhaul for PVE, but I'm at a loss as to how to go about the build. I gather that soft capped Def, recharge and +health are important, but do you try for all three? Can you focus on health bonuses for regen instead of soft capping Def? What's a good amount of recharge to keep Rage up as much as possible? (Perma or stacked or whatever?)
For concept reasons I want Flight and Energy Mastery. If Fighting is necessary for survival I'd go with Kick (I really, really don't like Boxing.)
No purples either, as this would be the build to try to -get- those.
So... help?
