  1. I have to go with the rest of the group and say that SS/Elec is really nasty - good resists (defense isn't that great a thing for a villain in hero-vs-villain PvP unless you have a lot of it) plus a ranged -fly power, which makes SS/ a superior set compared to EM/ when fighting squishies. Stuns are good, but if you can't reach your enemy, they're not really worth anything. Stone/Elec could work quite well too - high burst damage attacks available at low levels.
  2. ah, sorry, didn't mean to direct the reply to you, but to Thurn.

Basically, any AT can fight against a Stalker.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
There is no other AT who can effectively fight against a Stalker.

My /Dev blaster would like a word with your Stalker...

    ..
  4. Ah, those people. Just AS them for fun and profit. Asking for 1 on 1 with a Stalker without Hide is a sign they are perfect targets for you as they have no +perception or basic knowledge of fighting against Stalkers.

    ... what?

(1 vs 1 is silly in CoH anyways)

    Stereotyping?

This discussion reminds me of a quote.

"If we all reacted the same we'd be predictable. And there's always more than one way to view a situation. What's true for the group is also true for the individual. It's simple. Overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death."

    - Major Motoko Kusanagi, Ghost in the Shell

Read what you want from that.
  6. I'm Ice/Dev Blaster all the way. Tried others, but nothing says love just like stacking holds, -recharge and all sorts of movement hinderance does.

    PvP badge

    [ QUOTE ]
But when people who actually have worked for it, say "look what I got", they get answered, "duh, thats worth nothing cause you can farm for it"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aye. The problem with artificial systems that are supposed to display skill and dedication. That's why I personaly value a "nice one" said over broadcast or a scattered heap of bodies of ones decimated enemies as a sign of competence more than any badge that can be obtained in PvP. I think every single PvP badge has been broken or abusable at one point or another, so their worth has seriously decreased.

If you are offered offered the reward for weeks of grinding for free, would you decline, or would you take it and set your sights for that next months-long grinding for your damage taken badge, and you could skip that PvP you have always hated if you want. Given those choises, not many of us can make the harder one - especially considering the fact the game isn't free.

I know the people I respect in PvP, and I have never checked if they have the badge or not, or how much reputation they happen to have at each given moment. Respect of your peers is all that really matters. So, there are the few people who point out that there are easier ways to get the reward, but it doesn't mean you have lost anything in the process - you have gained weeks worth of PvP experience. People have taken note of you. Those are things more precious than a badge if you like PvP.

And yes, I have my badgecount up. And yes, it matters to me.
  8. Theoretically yes, but once you hit the cap (575ft on a lv 50 non-stalker), you won't benefit from additional Stealth. Grant Invis gives you (according to City of Data) 666ft of Stealth, so unless you're a Stalker, you are capped from just one application.

Perception and Stealth are compared after the caps are applied, so going over the cap doesn't help any.
  9. Superior Invisibility (1200ft. of Stealth according to City of Data) will make you as invisible as you can, you'll reach the Stealth Cap (575ft for a lv 50 non-stalker) using just that power. Even if it did stack, any excess Stealth would be lost.

(Edit: Checked the numbers, changed to correct values)
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Sorry to ask more inane questions but I’d like to know whether it’s worth having stealth and invisibility in PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, it depends. Stealth will not provide you with full invisibility. And you will have to turn off Invisibility to attack. There is also a lot of perception going round on both sides, so most of the time you really cannot rely on the Stealth powers keeping you invisible.

    [ QUOTE ]
However, I will probably be teaming with an illusion controller so will stealth stack with group invisibility?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. Only the highest level of stealth is applied - the only thing that stacks with other types of stealth powers is Stalkers' Hide.
  11. (damn it's confusing watch you two talk)

    PvP badge

    [ QUOTE ]
And I will personally look down on people who farmed for it like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't mind if people farmed for it as long as they don't claim to be better PvP players because they have it. If they get the PvP badges fast, they're out of the PvP zones fast, so it's a win-win for both the people who like to PvP and those who don't.

I haven't farmed the badge for my characters, but I don't see the farming process as totally evil thing. People want different things, why should they be forced to participate in something they don't like (accompanied with much moaning over the broadcast over how unfair everything is) to gain something that they can achieve more easily with the help of a few friends.
  13. True, on lower levels, there is lower maximum you can benefit from perception and stealth buffs that depends on the level you are and if you are a Stalker or not.

Caps at PvP zones are (BB, SC, WB, RV - distances in feet):

    Stealth maximum for non-Stalkers: 487.5, 501.5, 529.5, 571.5
    Stealth maximum for Stalkers: 975.0, 1003.0, 1059.0, 1143.0
    Perception cap for all characters: 985.0, 1013.0, 1069.0, 1153.0

Hide is 500ft. of Stealth (lowers observer's perception range by 500 ft)
    Stealth is 389ft. of Stealth
    Invisibility is 611ft. of Stealth
Phase Shift is 222ft of Stealth

This means that a non-stalker will not benefit any from having additional stealth boosts if he has Invisibility, it will always make him as hidden as possible. A Stalker can stack his Hide with another power he is running - if he uses Invisibility (while Hidden) in any other zone than RV, his Stealth is capped as well (500 + 611 = 1111). In RV he has to have some outside assistance to reach the full Stealth potential.

Also comforting to the normal folk is the fact that a Perception cap is always 10 feet higher than Stalker's Stealth cap, so if both sides are at maximum numbers, you can see the Stalker when he's 10 feet away from you. At that distance, it comes down to reflexes and skill.

    PvP badge

    [ QUOTE ]
Seeing how that used to be available just by completing one PvP zone mish, I doubt you're one of few

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really that hard these days either ...

    1) Invite to your team one friend with 400 reputation.
    2) Invite to your team another friend, someone who can deal damage.
    3) Everyone buys full tray of awakens.
    4) Go to Warburg.
    5) The person with 400 rep quits team.
    6) Your other friend (who is in team with you) kills your friend with 400 rep. You get reputation from this, even if the attacking friend doesn't.
    7) Person with 400 rep uses awaken.
8 a) if you have 400 rep, you win. If not...
8 b) if person with 400 rep has more awakens, goto 6, if not..
8 c) if someone in team has awakens, person 400 joins team and is traded awakens, goto 5, if not...
8 d) Go out of Warburg, go to 3.

    EDIT: Small text edit.

One of the reasons I'm asking this is whether PvPers think it's acceptible or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the question of what's acceptable in a PvP Zone is a bit difficult one. It is a competitive setting, and people have different views on what it is to win there. To someone it might mean that everyone else leaves the zone. To someone it might be not dying for 5 hours. Someone might want the bounty. Another to switch zone control to their side. Someone might just want the badges. At the end of the day it has to come down to the rules, not what individual people think they feel is acceptable or not.

And the rules in PvP of CoH pretty much boil down to: Do not intentionally cause other people debt. And don't use abusive language to verbally harass them.
  18. Wasn't at SC last night so can't really say how severe the situation was, but from the sounds of it, it was more of a case of too many heroes being too close to villains base.

If you are constantly teleported into drones, you're too close to the drones. Getting droneported once is fair, getting it done to you twice might be because of a miscalculation, but more than that, you're just being stubbornly close to to the guy with teleport. Just move back, away from the base and let them come to you, not the other way around.

Teleportation is a tricky question, but usually it happens worst when you're too close to the other side - Siren's call is pretty much divided to the Hero side, Villain side and the area where neither side has clear advantage. If you're fighting on enemy ground, be prepared to the fact the enemy will use it against you.

The party line on if something is griefing is a bit hazy, but basically, if the player's only intent was to cause you debt, it's griefing. Proving intent is difficult.
  19. Both sides get the benefit.

Edited for additional info: I mean, been there, done that. You have to remember to wait until the 5 minute timer after the victory timer starts and make sure you don't lose any points from things like dying.
  20. My Empathy/Dark Offender is probably my favorite defender at the moment - Insane regen rate and two self-heals, combined with stacks of -ToHit and KB/KD makes fighting bosses with her fun.

My Storm/Psi comes quite close now that he has the cone attack from Psi, so does the Sonic/Sonic for the sheer awesomeness of the -res stacking.

PvP-wise, the most fun I've had on a defender has been teaming with Crimson Cannon (En/En Blaster), Tenebra (Dark/Dark Scrapper) and/or Aldwych (Kat/SR Scrapper) in Warburg as my other Emp/Dark ("pure empath" build), but that is pretty much only because the other defenders are a bit low in level to team there.

Flurry, your loosing it! Jump kick another no no, and i drain to much end if i run CE and another travel power, this requires more slots, which i dont have... sorry. I thought about all these powers

I still think those powers are better choices when compared to Frozen Aura on an AoE Blaster.

  22. There is absolutely no reason to avoid Electric Primary and Secondary. Stamina is pretty much a must-have. You'll also want some form of Knockback Protection, either from Acrobatics or Hover/Fly. Aid Self gives you some extra lifespan and I can't see a reason for not having Hasten...

You will not want to miss taking both Aim and Build Up.

What ATs are you most comfortable playing, could give some pointers on how Blasters are different from those.

    Electric armour

The reason other KB protection powers from defensive sets are so much better than Grounded is the fact that while they do decrease KB by 10 units, they also have a 10000% resistance to it.

Whatever the actual formula is on how that resistance is applied, the number is so huge it basically means you just can't be KBd when it is in effect.
