Quote:all the above is true i believe except for i think they lowered the timer from 10 min to 5.I don't think the above is entirely true. Rep does not go down by getting killed. Rep does go down over time like 1 rep per 24 hrs i think. You cannot gain rep on the same person if you've killed him with in 10 min of the last kill. 5 pt rep bonuses on top of the 1 rep per kill is most likely rewarded when the player you killed has spent a certain amount of time in a PvP zone with out dying. I believe this is true beause i've recieved 5 pt rep bonuses from players that had less than 20 rep when i had 380 something rep.

on the champion server, a person gave out the reward of 2 bil along with 10 of any enhancements as a prize for first place 500 mil and 5 of any enhancements for 2nd and 250 mil and 1 of any enhancement for 3rd place. all out of his own pocket, all rewarded in time. this was about 2 years ago.
the price of enhancements alone here probably way more then the actual money prize. so I would say imagine you would have to spend ALOT of money to surpass that specific contest, especially with market prices as they are. -
with the exception of like pyric's video and chaos (if thats still up) everyone from vori made some pretty sweet vids. Reaver,squish,m3z,unholy,hoj and vinnie all have vids up that are still funny to watch. also you can find some other vids of people fighting against vori members as well.

Quote:assume its both and move onto killing something else until then. if you found that you killed every player in the zone, switch toons and repeat. =Dyes, but 10 minutes in what avenue?
10 min after receiving a drop or 10 min after defeating said target?
Such as billy dies 10 times by the same attacker in a limited time. CAN you receive a reward if you are still receiving "you have defeated said target previously" message or do you need to still wait for rep drops to be reset on that particular enemy for the chance for IO drop?
Edit: due to testing time and limited sleep, forgive the articulation of what I'm trying to get across here... -

the values enhanced by generic IOs are a little higher then HOs or SOs
a schedule A IO for example: a lvl 50 dmg generic is 42% where as an nuc acc/dam is only 33.3%
With good slotting however an HOed build is still better then just a generic IOed build. -
this is how we will do it. select a rep for each blaster type and have them beat snax. we will rank each powerset by how badly they beat him.

I doubt most people could name 5 "elite" pvpers that still play. for those that want to try though heres a hint, no one that has posted in this thread so far is an "elite" pvper.

the first event was painful due to havin no travel powers AND being travel suppressed anyways. the melee event was alot more fun even though i was getting only 5 fps the whole time lol

generally just get the hell out of there. in zones end drains should be no problem because there are so many outs (base running, temp phase, other temp phase, other other temp phase, run into a mob of long bow) if you want to try and stay around then having blues on you or having conserve power may or may not help.
When it comes to dueling an end drainer in the arena such as fighting an elec/thermal or sonic/thermal. A good /rad troller or corr should NEVER run out of end. A good blaster (especially fire) will do way more damage then a thermal can heal (and will run them out of insp quick) and a good regen (with phase) should not only never run out of end but never go under 75% health. you can also make a toon that resist end drains naturally such as an elec/ tank but that will open up ALOT of issues against EVERYTHING else.
thermals have a big advantage as they don't require a skilled player to be a effective. -
Neuronia is dead on, I'd like to however add some supplementary notes.
Quote:any primary can be effective in zones if you follow the simple rule of KSing half dead targets, If you don't feel comfortable ASing then you will love spines. Spamming impale and sharks will generally get the job done, especially when a target is at a sliver of health and running for base. EM and MA are all around good sets with the significant advantage to EM IMO. DM is generally good for arena matches or FC duels as you can put your secondary effects to work more consistently here. Also Elec is not as devastating as it used to be following the TS nerf but it is definantly still way up there.Stalker:
Martial Arts, Spines, Dark Melee, Energy Melee
Regen, Ninjutsu, Willpower
em>spines>dm,ma,elec>claws>kat>bs>db
Secondary Wise: every stalker secondary have subtle differences that tend to make play styles differ. Distinct differences would be choosing a resist set or a defense set. Subtle differences would be in how often one attacks, what attacks one leads with and how long one stays in combat.
Nin>regen>Wp>ea>sr>elec>da
Broad sword and katana are good if you like to stand around and fc duel. parry helps with that. however fire is about as good as it gets.Quote:Scrapper:
Martial Arts, Spines, Dark Melee, Fire Melee
Regen (pretty much) Fire Aura gives that almost permanent click heal as well.
A competent regen will NEVER EVER die. sadly everything else imo pales in comparison.
Everything here is dead on.Quote:Tanker
Fiery Aura, Willpower (RTTC will get detoggled a lot), Invln isn't bad these days
Superstrength, EM pretty much
depending on the secondary, Ice can still be a very effective primary. Pairing Ice with /rad or /cold will give you a deadly dueling toon. an Earth/TA is still about the most annoying toon in the game.Quote:Controller
Illusion or Mind
Most secondaries are fine except I'd avoid bubbles as defense bites.
Therm, Cold, Empathy, Rad is ok except for detoggling constantly, Trick Arrow is ok for a few laughs.
unresisted debuffs were more or less a myth, however these days trollers are better to bring to KBs or Zones because you can get more utility out of them.Quote:Defender:
Empathy, Cold, Rad is ok..., in truth just roll a Corruptor. Since Defenders lost their unresisted debuffs and Vigilance is lol, Corrs have Scourge which is <3.
Blasts I like Psy with Placate Proc or Sonic personally
I'm not a big fan of sonic blast although I know how effective it is. I prefer Rad and even fire when paired with most secondaries. elec definantly is a winner when paired with thermal (end drain madness)Quote:Corruptors:
Pretty much Thermal with Sonic Blast. Pain Dom and Colds can do ok (the latter with Dark Blast)
most of the corrupter secondaries make for really good dueling toons if paired with a decent primary examples include: fire/dark, dark/cold, elec/thermal.
a good fire blaster can outperform just about every other blaster except for a better fire blaster. proc it out and your good to go. psy is a close thanks to the placate proc, but psy is also more friendly to newer blasters thanks to what i believe to be very distinct roles of each attacks, a newbie will very quickly learn to use which attack in a certain situation. rad is ok, everything esle is meh.Quote:Blasters:
Fire Blast, Psy Blast with the Placate Proc, Ice is meh now and Energy is pretty lol. Arrows can do ok.
Energy Manipulation, Elec isn't bad either
energy is still at the top for secondaries. elec took a hit seeing as how its melee oriented. MM is useful because of drain psyche and devs for web grenades.
Necro is probably the most popular primary. just about any secondary can work but the most effective being pains, thermals, poisons and darks.Quote:Masterminds:
Thugs is the really popular one though you see the Odds Bots or Ninja out there.
Secondaries: Thermal, Poison, Pain Dom, Storm
Provoke and Aid Self to season.
the key to a good pvp brute lies in playstyle. it would take 10 pages to explain it but being creative is key.Quote:Brutes:
Superstrength or EM paired with Fiery Aura, Electric Aura (no rly), Invuln is seen around too.
mind is the best hands down. fire can work if your very aggresive, everything else is mehQuote:Dominators:
Mind, Earth, Psy (I guess...), Fire
Fire, Energy got a boost, Electric come to mind as popular
fire is the most damaging, energy is decent elec is overated (unless your m3z, then its good)
Forts are good stalker killers in wb especially when given a lil perception. a good pb should NEVER die. spiders can be annoying in kbs if spamming webnades.Quote:Hero VEAT PBs haev a great bag of tricks with click heals, Phase, range damage etc...
lol Warshades
depending on how much you duel and what your build is , its a toss up between concealment and leadership. -
Quote:would you like me to point out the 20 or 30 flaws in your argument or would you like to look over what you said, and try again?3rd part of your paragraph is wronge Cat, your title itself is directed at new pvp'ers.
How to detect vets? Not necessary! What you should be concerned about is the competitors themselves. When they arrive right click them and check INFO to see if they have tons of set bonuses, if they do then they should be in a different category from those who don't. Really simple to do.
2 competitions - vet (with set bonuses) and new (those without set bonuses), simple. -

well you had the privelidge of learning to pvp when the server's pvp population was fairly high and had a good amount of skill. during this time many of those skilled players were currently competing on test and if they werent doing officials they were practicing against other test groups or just doing for fun pvp in zones (where you would encounter them) so at the time arena was dead (no such thing as practices on live) these days however zones are poppin for a lil bit then die instantly, hardly a way to consistently improve. however a few friends in the arena could practice several different things (ie. hard to practice your evasion in the zones, when your constantly the chaser and not evader)

Quote:the nature of zone pvp calls for a certain degree of imbalance, theres no clear cut method to ever balance fighting in a zone with so many factors to take into account such as skill level, AT usage, and teaming. Plus the whole hero vs villain thing, zones are a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE place to learn to pvp. while it is a good place to promote interest in pvp or the occasional zone wide large scale battle royale of doom for fun (as to allow you to hop in, button mash and hopefully come up with a kill)
IMHO, if you really wanted to make PvP more popular, there would be more emphesis on keeping the numbers and ranks balanced in zone PvP.
to really learn pvp a more controlled enviorment helps alot. (cough arena cough) which everyone typically overlooks. dont get me wrong, its certainly possible to learn how to player a really good stalker in zones by trial and error, but due to low zone activities, generally lower skill level etc it will take alot longer. -
Quote:which makes a difference. a general SO slotting would be 2 acc 3 dmg 1 rech. or 2 acc generics 2 dmg generics and 2 rech generics. while frankenslotting you can can probably get the equivilant of say 3 acc 3 dmg and 3 rech plus a lil end redux for the same amount of slots. Not true. Cap is cap no matter if you are using So's, Io's or hami's. The only difference is how many slots it will take you to get to that cap possibly.
always keep in mind powers like Mind Link for NW and Forts, while they dont accept recharge enhancements, they except defense IO sets that include things like def/rech and def/rech/end which affect the recharge. so a SOed NW will have a normal mind link where as a frankenslotting widow (slotting 6 different def/rech or something) would have mind link come up alot faster.
