I welcome this change. Tons of other posters have taken to whining and weeping about how hard it is for them to kill him even when they've been given instructions.

I say, THANK YOU DEVS! I want harder things to do, more complex tasks! Smashing apart +1/x8 is fun for so long; make us think about what we have to do to get stronger.
    YES!

... Like drawing someone away from the source of their regenerative abilities to defeat them, rather than risking ourselves by taking down the clones while getting hit by attacks! Or punting him into the lava and pinning him there with knockbacks. That's thinking about things! None of this crazy just running around shooting everything and trying to wear down enemies, that's just pointless, stupid and boring.
  2. Just a point:

Sprint detoggles Granite and Rooted, it doesn't combat the -runspeed. Same with Ninja Run/Super Speed.
  3. Scrapper:

Regeneration (Fast Healing, Intergration, 3 Heal SO's, Health 1 Heal SO): 544% Regen.

Willpower (Fast Healing, Rise to the Challenge, 3 Heal SO's, Health 1 Heal SO):

    1 Enemy: 543%
    2 Enemies: 592%
    3 Enemies: 641%

Add in this with the Defence, Resistance, Enemy -To Hit, and WP is kind of... well, much better.

    Regeneration's Reconstruction:
10.4 Endurance, 60 second recharge, 24.99% Heal, 15% Toxic Resistance.

    Firey Aura's Healing Flames:
10.4 Endurance Cost, 40 second recharge, 24.99% Heal, 15% Toxic Resistance.

Firey Aura has a low level advantage in recharge of its heal, plus resistance. Regen has to cope with just Fast Healing, Reconstruction and Dull Pain till 16.

Yes to the Recharge Debuff Resistance, yes to the Regen Debuff Resistance, I'd also propose changes to the amount of regen given by the various, non IH powers, the recharge time of IH, the recharge time of Reconstruction (bringing it in line with Healing Flames) and possibly changing Resiliance to a High Pain Tolerance a-like. And a small amount of Recovery Debuff Resistance to Quick Recovery.

And yes. Council Marksmen are HATE. HATE HATE HATE.

    ...

    ...

    How about-

No, you win. There's no reason at all. "We can't remove content!" Well, you're not removing it. You're moving it. To Ouroboros. Which still needs some fixes anyway.

Take out all instances of repeated missions between contacts. Keep only one of these and assign them to a contact. Assign one story arc to the most fitting contact. Assign badge missions to the most fitting contacts in that level range. Cut down on the chaff and padding in some of those arcs. Turn all the referral missions into the pop up boxes like with new contacts, same for the Hero Corps + PVP contacts. Remove the pointless random Defeat X of Y in Z ones from the normal mission line-ups.

That's just a start. Clean it up, then start redoing content. Make it new and interesting to run, don't just bundle new stuff on new stuff on the old, because it doesn't make the old content any less prevalent, especially in CoH.

    New Arena Maps:

Suggestion: Adding to the number of available arena maps with new areas taken from the existing game world. For an example of three per zone from four hero city zones:

Galaxy City: Galaxy Girl Statue, Gemini Park, Nebula District
Atlas Park: (City Hall exists), Vanguard Building, Prometheus Park
Perez Park: (Theatre/Lake exists), Hell's Highway, Territorial Badge Bridge.
Kings Row: Aqueduct, Police HQ, The Gish.

There are locations across all the zones that would be suitable, from the fighting pit in Mercy Isles and the Monkey Fight Club room (Already a mission map) to the Magesterium and other areas used for the Nova Praetoria Power arc.

To enhance the PvE game, these maps could then have objective/spawn points added to them, and then be used in Hero/Villain content.
  6. Technical: More calls on the database when the missions are loaded to select a player villain at random. Issues with their level, powers and abilities (Dopplegangers don't get access to some powers IIRC), power customization negated (As with current dopplegangers), Need for Bios or application of a generic bio.

Conceptual: Power customization negated, players may not want their characters appearing in such missions, issues in roleplay from characters being put into such missions (Characterization, interaction with others.)

Unsigned, let's see more interesting NPC Heroes/Villains.
  7. After getting a character of mine to 50, I've realised something with all the teaming and TFing that's been going on.

I hate my Stone Armour Tanker.

I hate him because if I'm on a team, and there's no Kinetics using character with speed boost, I feel I'm a dead weight.

What awaits me is a series of missions of either getting to the fight last, or of constant toggling and de-toggling as I bring up granite, then drop it, then hope it's recharged by the time I get to the next mob.

And as I do this, it leaves me thinking just one thing:

Why the hell didn't I roll Invun?

As much as I love Rushmore's costume, his style and roleplaying on him, I hate his primary power set (I do love Stone Melee though), and I level slow enough that the thought of rerolling him makes me want to cry in how far he'll be from 50 again.

    That's my character I hate. What's yours?

It wasn't that. This one sent my HP from Green to Red. I think it was some kind of exploding bayonet stab.
  9. Hotz pulled off some move on me as I let her get too close to my En/En Force Blaster that basically dismantled me. The next time I fought them, I utilized my overslotted Power Push to the max (I have 5 Thunderstrike sets 6 slotted for the defence bonuses) and kept them at range while I destroyed them. I did similar with Trapdoor, keeping him pinned under the lava as I sent down torrents of blue death.

Honoree was the main problem. It's difficult to keep at range as he can fly, and knockback didn't seem to affect him. I had Force of Nature on recharge, so I popped 4 lucks, 4 studies, had to pop a break free due to stuns from his Energy Melee attacks, and had some respites to use, and basically did Hasten, Conserve Power, Boost Range and tried to get some ground while he was charging attacks to unleash more death on him, with him falling eventually.

I was using Hover to keep moving.

I died to each EB once, which isn't too bad really.

Regarding the next EB: It can't fly, but the roof doesn't provide you much height, and may result in the EB running off, so you have to chase a little and get them interested in looking up at you again. Sturdies and Lucks will help just in case.
  10. XP home SP3 updated fine here. Looking forwards to the Alpha Slot build!

PS: Kinetic Melee's Power Siphon doesn't seem to have a damage boost for the scrapper version, not checked the others. To-Hit is there, but other than that no effects are listed. Is this an issue with the power itself, or something that's been forgotten?

(Guessing that the way it applies might mean it's a little difficult to get it in properly.)

    Vigilante Woes

Count me as someone who misunderstood, also.

So far, Fear Trigger is a vigilante because it suits her M.O. What would suit her M.O to go to the Rogue Isles would be to take her fight against the Family to the Marcones and the likes.

So far there's no point in going, because whatever actions I take will just mean a wasted fame point.

  12. No, Devs. Just no. You do not get to say 'The Freedom Phalanx has fallen!' and not back it up. Seriously, no. If you're not going to do something right, or finish something, don't bother starting.

It smacks of lazyness. It smacks of disrespect. It smacks of -Cryptic-.

You wreck two zones, defeat the main hero group in the game, and don't show anything? No changes, no NPC dialogue, no nothing. You say there's invading forces, but outside of instances there's nothing.

At least when That Gaming Company decide to wreck their world that have the punch to back up their words by actually CHANGING it!

And what then? Is this just going to be swept to the wayside when issue 20 comes out, with the up to 24 person BAF raid? We've seen concept art for Mother's new hospital as well, but nothing yet saying there's going to be anything for the zones.

    Because there probably won't be.

Cimeora could have just been a set of missions from Ouroboros or the Midnight Squad, instead of an empty zone of hardly anything. You waste time on that, when old zones languish, crying out for attention but being ignored. You add systems and ignore them, or cast crumbs in their direction. You're Neuron. And that's not a good thing. I'd rather have Anti-Matter. At least when he starts something he has the audacity to do it right and proper.

And what about the Freedom Phalanx? They've been defeated. Even Statesman? The Big Hero? Yeah, we mock him, but casting him aside in a byword in an e-mail and then saying that the player characters are now -better- than the Freedom Phalanx? It does not compute! It is the two to ones and zeroes.

For 8 months now, I've had no interest in That Other Game. And now I am interested again. Because they change things up. They tinker with abilities with no 'cottage rule', and if something doesn't work, it usually gets looked at.

The only thing that really keeps me in CoH is the RP, the character customizaton, and friends. The new storylines seem to disregard the RP, the major new point of character customization, power customization, is still half done (Dread having an elemental set with a colouring, and then getting the APP and finding out nothing matches anymore. Hot Wire, Solar's character, has yellow lightning, which means if they take the Electric Mastery Pool, it's not going to look at all decent), which just leaves friends.

    You know what?

    Screw what the e-mail says.

I'm going with "tension is increasing and heavily armed Praetorian incursions have begun" as Ravenswing said earlier.

((Phew, I feel better for that. Rage: It's not just a Tsoo drug.))
  13. *goes to check inbox*

But that's... the zones, how can aogbaogbarnagh...

    I cannot stand a half-done job.

They haven't even finished Power Customization yet, and now they're doing half-done power animations, that if the rest of the game is any clue, may not get finished for a long time?

It's a problem of the Neuron effect:

"I've just gotten this part done BUT I HAVE AN IDEA I'll do this and hmm that's okay except for this but I CAN DO THIS and I can't be bothered with all that so I'LL TRY THIS

    Well played counter there.
  16. Where do we stand on battle damage to the affected zones? In the TF, two Paragon City zones are war-damaged, but the damage is only for the instanced maps and does not carry over for normal maps.

Which, IMO, is -really- lazy of Paragon Studios and a slip into bad habits of old. If they have the art, why not patch it into the zones, at least for an issue or so?
  17. A good point, Tech. And also, it's Sunday afternoon and I've just been godmodded to death by my six year old nephew while playing Lego Star Wars. (With real lego toys, that is.) So my brain's not up for going back ten posts, let alone 267.

(For those that are interested, it was actually suicide. When I found my dark side forces could take no meaningful actions, diplomacy would not work and that we were vastly outmatched by technology, I did the only thing possible and fired a death-ray at my own planet.

That was then godmodded to say it didn't happen.

I won't be introducing my nephew to roleplaying -just- yet. )

It does give other Union RPers the impression that some excellent RPers, such as Shadowe and Zortel, tacitly condone the rude, aggressive, and entirely unmerited authoritarianism of their fellows telling people what is right and wrong, and how they may or may not react IC to IC events.
For your information, I have been saying to people, FFM included "I don't think posting that's a good idea, I think you should remove this/edit that." Others have as well. Believe me, FFM's a great friend of mine, but I call him out on his posting, both here and in game, and usually very harshly as well. I call others out on it as well. If I'm writing about a heated topic, I'll get friends to check a post first to see if it's actually alright to post.

As for you, Ammon, the tone of your posting I felt was not conductive to the point you were trying to get across. That was from my reading of your own posts. It smacked of "Well, you can say that, but I'm just going to do this anyway so HAH!" instead of "If this conflicts with my world view and strains my suspension of disbelief, I'll rationalize it to my characters in my head like so."

The latter is perfectly reasonable and something we all do. The former casts you in a bad light of taking away people's decisions for their character by imposing your own take on what they're doing.
  19. Fea has some good points there!

Before detailing some more character stuff, let's do a quick woobly woobly sidetrack!

    ~Wooble~ ~Wooble~

On GG as a clique: As with any social setting where there's an established group, it can be hard for newcomers to get involved, and may take a little bit of time. It can be the same in PD: I've tried to get interaction, but people are firmly stuck in their little social circles having fun RP. It's happened to me at GG before as well.

GG is still one of the longest running RP areas on the server though, having started in March 2005. It was a bit different back then, usually it wound down at ten and people used it as a hub to jump off and do IC missions. That started to change around the time of the Rooftop Generation (A supergroup of teen characters that hung out on a roof in KR) and then started to settle into being more a social spot than a social hub.

On forum RP: I have troubles with forum RP. It can be hard enough to write at the best of times, but the random stop-start nature of forum RP throws me off. The IC story-fests that come with big game events, like the Zero Hour Rikti stories though, I do like.

On building character for RP: The fact of a character needing to have a certain set of social traits for GG is an interesting one. The same would apply for PD. You wouldn't really bring a character who hates alcohol, noise, people and floating disk jockeys there (exception being unless they were dragged along by friends) and as the same, certain character types don't work at GG. It's just one of those things and there isn't really any way to change that.

I've lost my train of thought, so

    ~wooble~ ~wooble~

Some of these are long term predictions, the characters are not yet 50.

    Zortel:
An inspiration streak leading to radical, new designs being implemented in the Zortel suit, starting off with improvements to the power systems (Recharge Alpha) and moving on to a new energy frequency that ups the potency of her suit's stun capacitor gauntlets (Recharge/Stun Alpha). There then exists the chance for installing new weapons systems based on the Judgement things that may not necessarily utilize energy, depends on what I see and like.

    Rushmore:
When the Praetorians Imperial Defence Force make planetside, the Spirit of America will endow him with the status of Ambassador of her Spirit. This will enable him to do something he hasn't been able to do before, use his powers outside of America and off-world. It will also let him fight for longer (Endurance Alpha) and increase his resiliance when he calls upon the power of his namesake Mountain (Endurance/Resistance Alpha, for Granite Form.) Judgement, if they've got something lightningy, will likely be 'Franklin's Lightning' or something.

    Kites not required.

    Cindersnap, Fusebox and Quickfrost:
After Plot Happens, Cindersnap will return from Somewhen having learned a series of martial arts techniques that allow a mutant to tap into their chi and bolster their abilities. Cindersnap will start teaching this to Quickfrost and Fusebox, and they're likely all going to be able to use their powers easier and throw them further (Endurance/Range IO's) though in time they may branch out and develop their abilities in new manners. IO slotting will also aid in their newfound improvements to their abilities.

    Number Nine:
By unlocking some of the limiters on the singularity engine that powers her, Nene will be able to better manipulate space and time, allowing her manipulations to land with a better degree of accuracy, and bolstering the time she can keep someone phased out thanks to her distortion ability. (Acc/Hold Alpha)

Azure Arrow: If I pick up a slot, it'll likely just be for OOC purposes, like Recharge or Damage to make him a bit easier to solo.

    Nachtbrecher:
Unlocking a Seal of Thule lets Wernher tap the technomagical-derived energies better, that increases the efficiency of his shields and requires less of a drain on himself to summon the dark powers. (End/Res)

    Jonathan and Amanda Wong:
Harnessing martial arts training to further boost their prowess. Undecided on what though.

    Zahir Rolando:
A newly installed fabricator and power system lets him recall his support units quicker, and increases the potency of his portable nano-fabricator and those on his droids (Recharge/Heal)

    Maxi Pound:
Zahir tinkers with her power gauntlets and suit, to make them run better than ever and increase output. (Endurance/Res)

    Sochi:
A mutation to her induced mutation ups the power of her regenerative abilities, both passive and active. (Recharge/Heal)

    Alraune:
Mastering the power of her plant side, Alraune's thorns and vines will strike harder and linger longer (Damage/Immobilize)

And that's it for now! Got ideas on the others, but that's all that's written up for now.

    ...

    ~Wooble~

    Heee, that's fun.

Yes, it's full of charm, humour and fun. It may get a little repetitive later on, having dungeon crawling elements and all, but the characters are bright, vibrant and a good laugh, and I've been really enjoying playing it. Go go Indie Gaming. /offtopic.

Tear: You can check an item's value by pressing Button 3, or by looking on the menu.
    Recette: Button... 3? Menu? I don't-
    Tear: Moving on.
  23. Azure Arrow is a level 40 character at the moment.

His power sets are Trick Arrows and Archery.

He is baseline human. He has a few gadgets, a bit of padding in his costume, and that's it.

OOC he can take down huge demons, monsters spawned by 'nature', ghosts and other sort of things.

IC? He can't. He could try, and he'd likely get torn to pieces. So he sticks to what he knows.

    Quote:
"Oh Captain Aamzing, Freakshow just kidnapped by brother, can you help me get him back?"

"Sorry Fletcher Lad, Freakshow are out of my league, anything more than a Hellion is beyond me!"
What makes a Freakshow gun less dangerous than a Hellion gun? Both can kill, unless you have the abilities to negate that. Azure Arrow can take on Freakshow. He has difficulties with the more cybernetic ones, and is reluctant to break out the EMP arrows due to collateral damage, but he can defeat them.

    If it was like this:

"Oh Captain Amazing, the Circle of Thorns just kidnapped by brother, can you help me get him back?"

This would likely be the response:

"I'll call some allies of mine in."

In an IC team, Azure Arrow can provide covering fire, and help soften the enemies for more capable people to take down.

IC Solo, he cannot. He could slow them down at best, and at risk to himself.

A Hellion gun is as dangerous as a Family gun is as dangerous as a Malta Gun, to him.

Does he go to one of the trainers IC when he needs to update his equipment or bring in a new arrow?

    No.

I have a similar issue with the mediporters and their instant rejuvenation. It takes the risk completely out of heroing. I can accept that there's tech that teleports you if certain conditions are met. I can accept that there's tech that can help you to heal. I can't accept that someone can teleport away, step out and be as fresh as daisies and ready to fight again.
  24. To be less whimsical and cutesy about it:

Yes, there are limits of suspension of disbelief. CB's axe he's grinding against Omega, I believe is pointless. Boundless Skies is inspired by, not an actual Exalted character with all the power thereof. We all take inspiration from things. Grey Whisper has her invisibility powers. Heck, even Azure Arrow is level 40, but he concentrates on Skyway/Kings Row and mostly helps the people in need there, and fends off gangers.

If it is really too much suspension of disbelief that he can be level 40 and do that, then the problem is not with me.

If you have your own little method for blanking/bending things that mess with your suspension of disbelief, fine, use it! That's good, and I hope it cuts down on stress for you.

When people start hammering it on the boards like it's gospel truth, then that's less fine. Tone of posting does not help matters. It just causes more stress, more arguments and makes people want to throw their hands up and chuck the towel in.

Some of the things that have been posted here smacks of 'You're doing it wrong', to playing the game and roleplaying in it. And it isn't. It's just a different style of playing.

A lot of what I do, game content wise, is OOC. My characters don't have auras thanks to some cyber-alien-plant crafted implant. Fusebox doesn't normally fight the Circle, but that doesn't mean I'll throw away a tip mission just because the enemies within do not fall under her remit. (And the luck I have with tip drops would make it foolish to.)

This is the same in that Other Game. My character (A mage providing arcane expertise to an investigation firm) is not running about collecting Wombat Toes IC or defeating big bads.

If someone tells me "You shouldn't do that if it's not IC." I'll reply with "It's not IC anyway, so be cool, bruddah."

Unless they're saying "You should level another mage to max level if you want to do that! >o<"

In which case I'll tell them just where to sheath a glistening plus five sword of feeblemindedness. And the scabbard too.

Ahhhh... 'fond' memories of the That Game's RP forums.

Once, I got in an argument with someone who said if my character was at a jousting ground type place, then they were doing that IC and I should have no objection if someone started RPing with them on the spot.

    I made the following points:

A: My character was a mage, thus charging around on a horse wasn't IC for him.

B: The prizes associated are only obtainable there, like some non-combat pets, mounts, titles and items.

C: The idea that I should stop doing something fun and enjoyable OOC because it isn't IC is ridiculous.

They whined and stamped their feet and put their parts on and said I was terrible for having the audacity to enjoy playing the game OOC and rebuffing any efforts someone would make to RP with me while I was doing such.

If people want to do that with their own characters? Fine by me.

If people start telling me I should do that, and that I'm bad for not doing it?

They become the 'Stop Having Fun' guy. At which point I shrug, and generally dismiss what they say as being chock full of grade A, home-made, old fashioned good-time Stupid. It comes in an easy-open ring pull can.

    Original and Best.
