Oooh ooh how about the Wizard of (Arachn)Oz?
Featuring Black Scorpion as the Tin Man, Mako as the cowardly Shark and Ghost Widow as the scarecrow....Surely it'd be lovely with flying Rikti monkeys and the Recluse with big butterfly wings...I've not thought this through, my mind sidetracked at flying monkeys....
Oh and those other ideas were awesome too.

Love. It.
As too do i love the idea of a badass Red Riding Hood. Hip hop beats and werewolf slaying ftw! -
Right, this time of year always makes me think of panto for some ungodly reason and the fables/stories that came before them.
I have had a few very basic ideas for possible new mission sets/events based on the fairytales of old. Please note these are based on the Hans Christian Andersen/Brothers Grimm etc style rather than the cutesy, no-death-as-it-might-scare-the-parents Disney versions.
Contacts
[u]Mother Goose[u] - to be found in Galaxy City (I considered Croatoa but, well, it limits the starting characters somewhat and I figure this should be a fun, if slightly warped, introduction to the game world (plus doable for other levels).
Something very strange is happening! Our World, the land of stories (please suggest something less lame), is merging with this one. I have a feeling I know who's behind it but I need proof. Will you help me?
So Mother Goose sends you and/or a band of heroes out to solve some problems (in the form of missions, natch) leading to a climactic EB/AV battle which is as it should be .
[u]Captain Bluebeard[u] - to be found on Chum* Island in Mercy Island.
Yarr! So ye be noticin' strange things afoot too, ey? etc etc . I think you get the general idea of a piratey version of Mother Goose.
***
So this brings me on to some ideas for the missions themselves - namely trying to cram as much punnage into each and every single one as is humanly possible. The following are ones I have thought of so far, plus a few fairy stories I couldn't quite drum anything up for:
Cinderfella - a Hellion.
Poor, downtrodden Cinderfella was hoping to go to the rave and meet a beautiful, if morally objectionable, princess and live happily ever after. However, the Wicked Bone Daddy (yes I know Bone Daddies are Skulls, but Damned didn't quite fit!) and his ugly Blood Brothers have forced him to stay at home and keep the oil-in-a-trash-can fire burning.
So, he needs rescuing and, not only that, but he needs transport, some new duds and a posse to escort him there.
Cue first mission - rescue Cinderfella.
Cue second mission - find a 'coach'
Cue third mission - find some fancy clothes
Cue fourth mission - assemble a posse.
Fifth mission - re-rescue Cinderfella and make sure he survives to get to the rave.
Lady Grey and the Seven Rikti Traditionalists
I figured the title sums this one up - however, I think this is probably only a single (albeit big mish) to go rescue LG and her Rikti pals from someone. I have no idea who the big bad is in this case.
Sleepin' Booty
Definitely a pirate-themed mission! The 'Booty' is a legendary pirate treasure. I was thinking of a Ghost Pirate mission or set of missions but with little nods to Peter Pan. Perhaps Barracuda could make an appearance dressed as Tiger Lily? I have no idea.
Jack-in-Irons versus The Beanstalk
No, this is not an obscure reference to the JiI vs Eochai deathmatches that occur frequently in Croatoa. I did have an idea for a special instance involving a giant beanstalk that is created in a map by 'planting' a magic bean. The player/team then climbs it to get to the final part of the map.
So we have the straggler fairy tales (and, I hope, other people will suggest more):
Red Riding Hood
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The Pied Piper of Hamelin
Rapunzel
Rumpelstiltzkin
The Little Mermaid
***
My final suggestion is that this would be an excellent time to introduce the Pirate Mastermind! And also, quite possibly, an Underwater mission set.
The ideas above are totally open to further suggestions, filling them out and the like. So please do add things. I'd rather this were an organic thread than a 'I don't get it - /unsigned' or 'Wow, I like it - /signed' one. -
I don't have a problem with Invincible/Unyielding later on - for the majority of my own characters I am happy that they can help out/do damage at those levels.
My gripe is with teams at level 6 or so who think the higher diff settings are better. I remember leading a mission in The Hollows a few years back and we had been facing wipe after wipe under the previous leader. So I picked one of my own missions (set to either Heroic or Tenacious) and braced myself for the inevitable 'Mobs are blue/white/yellow'. Needless to say four out of six people levelled during the mish (it was pre-10 and we had a lower player in the team so no room for sidekicking).
I think, in general, veteran players will find things easier and so are more likely to play on higher difficulties and succeed. Newer players, even if they aren't new to MMOs, won't necessarily know that Tsoo do nasty things to your recharge, tohit and cause much knockback and stuns or that Council, in large groups, will swarm with cone and aoe attacks cutting ill-prepared teams down to size.
That's my experience and opinion anyway. -
Helena pulled up outside the warehouse in her white van - only this time the GIFT logo was missing.
Inside was a small array of video screens showing blurred images of outside. Sitting at a console in the back of the van was a man wearing a white bodysuit and thick, red goggles. He also had a headset on and was busy playing with dials, trying to make the pictures on the screens clearer.
Helena parked the van and headed into the rear of the vehicle, pushing back a flap of black, opaque perspex.
"So this place is for real?" She asked her companion.
The man shrugged, "Police reports and meta activity suggest it's so."
"So where's this device I'm going to be using?"
The man pulled out a box from under his seat and opened it. From it he produced a metal helmet, or rather the skeleton of a helmet, with wires sprouting from its shiny skeleton.
"You'd better give it a test drive. This thing worked fine back in the lab but we're not entirely sure what it'll do in the field." The man handed her the contraption and Helena took it tentatively, running her fingers over its hard contours.
She placed the helmet on her head and found a chinstrap which she snapped into place.
"Good job I can't see myself." She joked.
The man hooked up the device to a console and tapped a few buttons. Helena felt a vibration and then concentrated for a moment. She looked at her partner and gave him the thumbs up. He returned the gesture.
"Show me one of the police officers. Preferably one who isn't holding a rifle with the safety off."
The man complied, twisting a control until one of the screens showed a group of officers waiting on the other side of the warehouse complex. Helena focussed in on the image and attempted to project her thoughts... -
Will the base still be open to the public in the future?
I didn't have anyone who would need/want to come to the open evening but, you never know, in future I might. -
Helena screamed as the toy bears whirred into life. One of them caught her on the shoulder and more of her white overcoat became red with blood.
"Uh, I'm not exactly equipped to deal with this!" she shouted whilst frantically trying to bat at the bear she was given with her bag. -
The real problem why EU populations are low?
Threads like this. -
I really like this idea!
As glowies get an attached sound effect, don't see why specific hostages can't.

Sorry Butik - didn't mean to be such a drama queen.
It's just that this topic depresses me.
It also pops up with alarming frequency.
*coughs and switches to happy mode*
Get in touch with badgers, roleplayers, pvpers etc and I'm sure the servers won't look so empty. -
Please,no more!
Read frequent suggestions and just stop this nonsense -
Helena watched as the small group of investigators searched the shop. She had been drawn to Dre's body, probably because it was the one that had suffered the most damage. The trouble was, without his head intact she might not be able to pick up any traces of what he had seen.
Rummaging in her gladstone bag she pulled out a pair of plastic gloves and put them on and then produced a pipette and petry dish. She kneeled by Dre's body and extracted some blood.
She heard someone say something about the toys producing energy spikes.
"Mind if I have one?"
Then she cursed under her breath, noting that her white overcoat had caught some of the blood.
"Oh well, no one said this line of work was pretty." She mused. -
Re-built your base yet? Nope, it took me long enough the first time
Made a Captain America Clone yet? Well he's Shield and Super Strength, and he wears blue. Does that count?
Converted your salvage to brainstorms yet? Yes. Joy.
Lost a crafted item behind a base wall yet? Nope.
Petitioned a Captain America Clone yet? Not seen any - actually seen some nice designs: especially the ones with logos on them that are repeated on the chest (Lions, tigers and bears oh my)
Converted your brainstorms to salvage yet? Yes. Joy. (see above)
Earnt a merit yet? Nope. I could lie and say i'm not bothered but some of those sets look juicy.
Done a boring TF just for the merits yet? Nope. No TFs are boring. Frustrating and soul destroying, yes, but not boring.
Done a dual build yet? Not dared.
Done a respec yet? I did one before i13 went live. See above for reasons why not actioned.
Realised you should have done the dual build after the respec yet? Again, see above.
Decide to not play a character just for the day job yet? Yes - well, technically yes. Some toons haven't been played for the best part of a year. -
The characters are never that skinny.
It's also possible to give the illusion of fatness by manipulating the body sliders and using baggy clothes. For some reason it seems to be easier to do this with female models . -
He GR, have a cookie
I switched off the AV for a sec logged in, got asked if it was okay by my AV to run City of... and clicked yes.
Hurrah for problems caused by tiny things I know far too little about!
Thanks again. -
I have the same problem. It's a shame because i wouldn't mind logging on today and having more of a play with i13 but there ya go.
Oh and running Vista, NVidia GeForce, had a play around wih the firewall etc to see if that was blocking but to no avail. -

I'll let you know what I think in about two weeks.
Initial impressions: some stupid bugs left in.
I have a screenshot of Ms Liberty and her honour guard of shield wielders. Seriously guys, you're worse than WoW players and Death Knights.
[/ QUOTE ]
But shields are shiny! *SHINY!*
In other news: having a wee bit of difficulty logging in today due to a checksum error but apart from that, the extra patrol xp has come in handy on a few toons; especially those nearing 50.
Costumes are all good , especially the save option. Although I must remember that if I want a re-rolled character to have the same build (scales etc) then I must only copy the costume that doesn't have things like capes or regular auras.
To explain further, i went to make a v2 of Ionos and copied his cape costume. Level 1s have no access to full capes so it didn't let me. D'oh.
I tried the new Cimerora arc out in Test and was surprised and amused. In a good way. Despite the inclusion of a certain villain group.
I'm looking forward to getting more badges and to have a play with a new RP SG who will be getting to lv10 and hitting the no XP button (shameless plug for The Mercy Rogues over ) -

I cant think of any that you've missed of the top of my head tho force fields and energy could both exist in either the science age or the Sword 'n' Sorcery category quite easily as there pretty generic.
You mentioning travel powers tho did get me thinking we lack a set based around super speed ala Flash, Quicksilver, Zoom (possible time control), Inertia, Speed it is currently kinda doable using superrelexes and the super speed travel power set but there's no real melee set that gives that impression of fast combat where your landing a succession of week blows very fast.
also some form teleportation set in a similar vain to night crawler again yes its kinda fudge able using current sets but nothing really represents the way night crawler would combine his teleportation and gymnastic abilities to over come his opponents.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a good reason for that - copyright. Well, specifically anything Marvel-related: DC don't seem to mind as much but it's still infringement of copyright and is frowned upon.
Energy and FF were in the 'other' category because they can fit in almost any category. Having said that most powersets can. Anyway, it was just a moment's excercise to entertain myself and perhaps provoke suggestions for powersets that don't really fit the ones already in game. It goes without saying that it'd be best to gen up on the 'Frequently Suggested' thread over on Suggestions.
Perhaps some more combo sets could be devised? Dual Blades is the only one at the moment with an actual combat system. -

Excuse me, but what additional "spandex" costumes do we need? We have dull spandex and shiny spandex, spandex with skirts, spandex with capes, cut away spandex, and lots of different patterns - what else can you do with spandex that we haven't already got?
[/ QUOTE ]
It was "spandex powers" that were requested - Shorthand for "powers that aren't weapons and are a better fit with the majority of the superhero mileu"
[/ QUOTE ]
And yet, still no one provides an example...
[/ QUOTE ]
I see this as a challenge!
Powers
Perecived to be in the game already:
[u]Category 1 - The 'Traditional' Elements[u]
<ul type="square"> Fire, Ice, Earth, Storm, Electricity (could figure in the next category too), Plantlife
[u]Category 2 - 'Science-Age' Powers[u]
<ul type="square"> Gravity, Radiation, Spines (debatable), Poison, Kinetics
[u]Category 3 - 'Sword 'n' Sorcery / 'Historical'[u]
<ul type="square"> Shield, Battle Axe, Archery, Broadsword, Katana, War Mace, Dark, Illusion (see also Psychic Powers), Ninjas, Zombies
[u]Category 4 - 'Modern Warfare'[u]
<ul type="square"> Assault Rifle, Devices, Traps, Robots, Mercs, Trick Arrow (another debatable one), Thugs (purely for graphic represetation and dual pistols), Soldier/Crab/Bane powers
[u]Category 6 - 'Psychic' Powers[u]
<ul type="square"> Psi Blast, Mental Manipulation, Mind Control, Psionic Assault, Illusion, Empathy, Pain
[u]Category 7 - Everything else (or powers that I can't make fit )[u]
<ul type="square"> Sonic, Forcefields, Martial Arts, Claws, Super Reflexes, Willpower, Invulnerability, Energy, Dual Blades, Super Strength
[u]Category 8 - Aliens[u]
<ul type="square"> Kheldians - nuff said!
Please point out ones I missed (oh and note that I grouped certain powers together. Psionics was the exception as it looked a little 'small' in comparison to others!)
These are my personal thoughts on the matter of powers and whether or not they are Golden/Silver/Spandex or whatever. The majority of them are interchangeable thanks to the imaginations of the people playing them (I've used Gravity as psychic power before, for example).
I've left out modes of transport because they're pool powers and, as such (imo), are subject to even more personal interpretation than the main powersets.
And that's the first part. Second would be, perhaps, for others to suggest? (Yes, I have used all my brain power on this) -

[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I didn't actually say more costume pieces... However, some more patterns would be nice... flags especially, as would putting your chest logo on your cape as well.
Some more objects for bases would also be good... Perhaps some placeable mannequins with your costumes on them, stored for posterity and maybe even making use of the costume save/load feature so you can keep a library of more than 5 costumes you can just select from.
Oh, and a really big BaBomb type bomb that you have to run around with for hours and hours, because sometimes, you just can't get rid of a bomb!

Posi TF for me tonight with my sepcial built Def and my mates blaster. Looks like we can get in done in 2 hours for a decent amount of merits.....but it's not farming as I havent done it before!!!
I think the new IO set is Winters something
More merits for completing things = less random roles, but it is all still random, theres no selecting luck of the gambler!
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's the Winter travel set then that's been around for a while - it gives universal movement plus some fairly meh set bonuses. -
Helena looked up from her copy of the autopsy, "This Dre character; chances are he was in the direct line of fire when the attack happened. Otherwise why would he have been the only one to have been decapitated?"
Helena walked to the entrance to the shop and stood with her back to the doors, looking at the scene. -
Hmm, I thought that might be the case!
Well, propose a change and I will be happy. -
Sorry, got a bit firey - just ignore me

Swift and hurdle remain unchanged. The super versions are a second toggle that basically doubles-up for you.
[/ QUOTE ]
This I don't like because I've not got two toggles to turn on instead of one (Sprint), but it would likely give me more road speed if I could spare the power choice. Most people would never take the tier 3/4 powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
My bad ... I did mean inherent not toggle
And yes, I don't imagine many people would, but with no suppression it could be useful for some builds.

Fitness : Stamina-1, Stamina-2, health-1, health-2
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, you've forced anyone trying to maximize regen to take all four of this set for starters. stamina/health/stamina/health would be fairer, and you still wouldn't have to use more than two power slots to get both stamina powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed ... sounds better to me.
[ QUOTE ]
And it's still all so people can avoid slotting powers with end reds really.
[/ QUOTE ]
yep
[/ QUOTE ]
So without slotting for End Red (which in the majority of powers only requires one at the most) what would your proposed additions be for the new slotting? Slot 4 damage? The diminished returns since ED mean that you're adding very little to your damage output.
Plus there's nothing really to stop anyone 4-slotting for damage now anyway.
I also think with the benefits of certain (and in some cases pretty cheap) IO sets giving boosted recovery AND boosted max endurance that proposing a Health 1/2 and Stamina 1/2 set would mean more powers people don't bother with.
There are also accolades and Safeguard/Mayhem temp power boosts for Endurance increase and, with all the resources available to hunters, these aren;t very difficult to obtain. They just require a bit of effort for a longer-term gain.
I'm against both propositions in the post - although I agree with the sentiment that it can be a pain, I agree more with Extremus's point of view that it is perception rather than actual reality which shapes the argument over Stamina.
As a side note, I immediately see the benefit of Swift and Hurdle whenever I take them. -
How about this? Too overpowered?
