  1. Curses. Ah well, thanks for the answer.
  2. I'm getting some conflicting information in-game. For Dual Blades, what Vanguard blades can you unlock?

    Can you only get these?

Or can you get the Vanguard Katana too?

I'm not going to let slippery slopes work. I'm asking to be able to be proactive. Your hypothetical complaints would not be proactive. There is a clear difference.
So Vet costumes are ebil because some Vets get them at the start of the game, and new players have to wait months or years to get them -automatically-.

Unlockable costumes however, are -not- ebil, even though no one gets them at the start of the game. Vanguard pieces, for example, can't be obtained until level 35, and that's not including the amount of time it takes to earn enough merits. Some players can pull this off much quicker than others.

You do realize this doesn't make any sense, right?

Where do seasonal costumes come in; togas and winter pieces and the like? If a player joins just after the Winter Event and sees someone with a stocking cap, there is no way for them to get that cap until the next Winter Event. And at that, they will have to grind missions just like everyone else, UNLIKE any Vet rewards they would have earned in the amount of time they waited to get that precious stocking cap.
  4. I prefer subtitles whenever possible, though that doesn't always work best either. Watched Sauna, where the translation definitely slips in a few places to convey exactly what's going on (After the fact we realized it was important to the plot to know who was speaking what language when. But if you couldn't pick out Russian or Swedish and had to rely on subtitles, it was a lost cause.) and the characters occasionally dipped into modern slang.

I'm also told that the DVD subtitles of Let the Right One In are different and inferior to what was in the theatrical release.

Tim Roth says that he speaks with his natural accent in The Incredible Hulk because they didn't pay for a Russian dialogue coach for him.

I don't know if it's still the case, but for a while Gary Oldman used a different accent for every movie he was in.

There's also the Valkyrie movie with Tom Cruise, where to my knowledge, the bulk (if not all) of the movie is in English. Can you imagine the uproar there would have been if they tried to get all the actors to speak with accents, let alone full German?

And then you have Serenity, where they even hired a translator to try to get the Mandarin phrases the characters use correct, and it was still butchered according to native speakers.

It works both ways. I see more and more foreign language signs here in central PA of all places. Apparently it's becoming popular to speak your native language wherever you go.
  5. The Attendant.

After young Abigail Moore finally saw the nightmare god she was being sacrificed to, she tore her own eyes out because she couldn't comprehend what her brain was telling her she was looking at. As the god slowly remade her in it's own realm, her ability to talk was forcibly removed as well. She "sees" now via telepathy and communicates by simple gestures and disturbing telepathic imagery.

Her main costume has a white "nurse" outfit with straight black hair, gray skin, her eye sockets caked with dried blood, her mouth sewn shut, and fresh blood on her hands. The overall costume is sort of an homage to the Silent Hill nurses, and the powerdown and powerup emotes work surprisingly well to imitate the nurses jittery movements.

Sorry, don't have any pics. ^_^
  6. Agonus is the name of my main in CoV.

I was trying for a name like Sinestro or Atrocitus, and Agonus was a play on agony. I also figured the name to be gibberish for the longest time, any legitimate meanings the word has are pure coincidence.
  7. Two of my fleshed out characters.

Ahreman the Red, a SS/WP Brute. The spirit of Aaron Tetherson has been possessing members of his bloodline since the 1800s, granting the power to transform into a superhuman being that currently answers to the name Ahreman the Red.

Steelbane, a Bots/FF MM. Think Terminator crossed with the Shrike, HK-47, and Bender. Near the year 3000, humanity is wiped out by machines. Not content with the eradication of the meatbags of their time, the machines send their primary offensive unit back in time to the legendary Age of Heroes to continue the job. The Mark VIII unit (nicknamed the Steel Bane of Humanity by the human resistance, or Steelbane) has the ability to summon previous versions of itself via one-way time portals to assist in it's mission.
  8. Huh. didn't expect that at all. I even -tried- for Lawful Evil.

    You Scored as Chaotic Neutral

A Chaotic Neutral person is someone who is self-motivated to the extreme. Thier actions may sometimes confuse others, due to their lack of moral affiliation. They have little respect for laws, and avoid both the temptation of evil and a feeling of duty to do good. These people can go along with either side of an argument- as long as they benifit from the result!

Then what was done in Thunderbolts was atrocious. Truly a character with a lot of promise and he was just MANGLED by editorial decree.

Phyla to me is little more then a joke. Now she is the avatar of death and the Quantum Bands are back with the recently restored Wendell Vaughan as Quasar, so he's back as an energy being and Protector of the Universe again. (amazing, chewed and eaten by Annihilus yet he can come back and Mar-Vell can't.....)

Monica Rambeau: to me this was AT FIRST, a weak attempt by Marvel to retain the Captain Marvel trademark. However she grew as a character and was a good Avenger.

Noh-Varr: what little I've seen I do not like. Kill him off.

Carol Danvers: well I hear ish 50 is her last issue, she's facing off against Mystique and I think ish 49's cover is her vs, "Mar-Vell" though I bet it's Mystique in disguise. Maybe SHE will become Captain Marvel? Her powers came from a Kree device that Mar-Vell saved her from, and were based on Marv's powers so perhaps she is the worthiest to take the name?

Only other candidate would be Rick Jones but he's been mangled by the idiotic Red Hulk/War of the Hulks/Fall of the Hulks junk into being the current Abomination.
There are some fan theories that part of the reason why Ms. Marvel got canceled, (other than to give the series a kickstart by starting over with a new number 1, which is getting ridiculous with the number of re-numberings they're doing to embrace the history long running titles have, but ANYway...) is to start a new book with Carol AND whoever is currently Captain Marvel, OR to make way for an eventual Marvelman book, since Marvel is in the process of clearing up the rights to the character.

I know the basics to the Marvel Captain Marvel concept. It's interesting, and the PDs Genis run was good. I like the -look- of Carol as Ms. Marvel, but her characterization was all over the place in her series. Maybe pairing her up with Cap could finally give her a solid direction to go in.

They stopped being an army and were turned into more of individual criminals (ie GL 2897.2 requesting help apprehending local Sinestro Corps operative). You can play the same game with the Red team and Larfleeze is just a single villain to use as necessary. The new "good" teams are small enough to be a minor factor in the future. The blues can take a pilgrimage to spread hope, but there's not enough to pair 1:1 with the greens anyway. Likewise, the Indigo will go back to wandering. Its not like anyone ran into them before.

The blacks on the other hand will be interesting. Obviously they won't continue to run as they are now, but I'll be curious to see where they end up. I suspect their battery will be destroyed and Nekron packing, but I doubt they'll vanish forever. My guess is that Black Hand, being like Ion, will retain a certain degree of autonomous power and will be able to raise the dead in a limited fashion. You have to shut down Nekron of course, but there's no reason you couldn't keep the Black Lanterns around on a smaller scale.
The new characters who have actually gotten some, ah, characterization will stick around. I hope, at least, anyway. But yeah, outlook not so good for the armies.

Curious to see what happens with the characters that have been killed by Black Lanterns.

Personally I'm an MRPer, if stuff happens... well hey, "shiat" happens. But I don't purposefully go around looking for "stuff" to "do". Otherwise to me MRP is all about being mature about what is described or done in a RP format. Cursing, body language, violence, gory descriptions, etc/etc.

    Like an R-rating pretty much.
I use MRP too, as I play a lot of murderous psychopaths and fascist types.

And to me, MRP and ERP are two entirely different things, as I have exactly one character that has any semblance of (or interest in, really) a sex life.

Don't really have an explanation for it, but I rarely swear IC. S'funny, as I do tend to curse like a sailor IRL.
  13. I have a question. Last night I found a RP bio that said something like "Storyline combatant only. Please don't pick a fight."

First time I've ever seen anything like that. What praytell is it supposed to mean? I wasn't able to ask the player in question, fwiw.

For those that might not know what a earbud is... a earbud is a communication device which fits quite snugly in your ear.. its large enough to be held between two fingers, but small enough that once placed inside the ear it can't be seen. So far this has worked out very well in my RP'ing as far as sending tells to someone. Of course it does take a little bit of explaining.. but seeing as how it fits with my story line, nobody has questioned it.
I use Tells for telepathy, "whispering" between characters, and I'm reminded of something else from a while back. Between a small circle of self-styled socialite characters, Tells were played as text messages sent fromt top of the line gadgets, with little *texts* notes before the message.

I'll be shocked if all the new Lantern Corps survive Blackest Night.

The Sinestro Corps and the Star Sapphires are a given to stick around.
    Larfleeze seems to be popular.
The Red Lanterns are goofy, but Atrocitus seems like a pet character of Johns.
The Blue Lanterns seem rather pointless, but maybe that's just me.
The Indigo Tribe gets my main vote to be sent to oblivion.
And the Black Lanterns days are numbered.

No more mutants wasn't really a "La la la, that didn't happen!" retcon. Morrison introduced millions of mutants, and the idea that mutants would eventually outnumber humans. This didn't fly with someone in editorial. (Which makes you wonder why they let him do it to begin, but most of what Morrison did during his last X-Men was re-written.) So Cassandra Nova had the uber sentinels wipe out 98% of the mutant population of Genosha, and the effects of that are still felt to this day. And Scarlet Witch came in as well, and now mutants are back in the minority/endangered species list, which they've also been dealing with ever since.

As for Scarlet Witch's power, didn't she have a powerup from her exposure to chaos magic* and a connection to Xavier's telepathy to make the House of M reality?

*It's never been confirmed to my knowledge, but I still think Wanda's Chaos Magic thing came from JLA/Avengers. Which would be all sorts of awesome if Magneto ever found out, and decided to lead an attack on the DCU as a result. Hey, wishful thinking.

That whole Stephanie Brown/Leslie Thompkins thing was a horrible mess. So at first, Thompkins tells Batman that she purposefully withheld treatment from Brown to kill her to send a message to Batman and anyone else about joining the Bat Family. Seriously. WTF?

Oh, wait! Sorry, they faked her death! Hehe, nevermind!

Guessing that you mean your villains are Lawful Evil, same thing here pretty much.

I have some exceptions of course, a Lawful Good "knight templar" type hero, a Black Adam type villain that shifts between Chaotic Evil and Neutral Evil, and a villainess with split personalities; one is Chaotic Neutral, one is Lawful Evil, and one's Lawful Good. (The CN persona is dominant while she's in the Isles, and when GR hits, the LG person will become dominant when she finally gets to go back to Paragon.)

    Me, I'm Lawful Evil.

Isn't there some tech limitation for optional moving parts (capes, trenchcoats, the bolero, wings, etc) on PCs, in that the Devs don't want PCs to have more than like one? Or did they finally manage a workaround? Like after the Magic Booster, when players were using... crap... the Bolero and something else at the same time? A patch was issued to stop you from being able to do that.

If that's still in effect and we got moving tails, you probably couldn't use them and wings/capes/longcoats at the same time.
  21. I don't dual box or anything, but I've connected a few of my characters.

The brothers Agonus and Ultonis. (Shhhh! It's a sekrit!) Aggie started as a powerful telepath with limited telekinesis. I wanted a similar setup with Ultonis, with telekinesis with limited energy manipulation. I started retconning it to Agonus being a pure telepath and Ultonis being a pure telekinetic, to make them sort of a psychic yin and yang. Agonus is my main now, but I got bored with Ultonis, and the whole thing has been collecting dust for a while.

And Ahreman and Bombshell Girl are connected, as Ahreman's "Billy Batson" Tim Tetherson and BG's alter ego Michelle Tetherson are cousins. The armor that BG acquired was designed to battle the family secret of Ahreman, but in the story, things didn't work out as planned.

I wouldn't quite call it a missed opportunity, because they're tried a similar pairing with Kitty Pryde before and now Armor.

And the costume thing is amusing. I think it was Claremont that wanted to put Wolverine back in his -slightly- more subtle brown and yellow variant costume back in the 90's, but the artists were being given as much control as the writers at the time. And then he gets a call from Jim Lee, who was proud to have put Wolverine back in the yellow and blue.

While they had it all planned out in advanced it was poorly designed for the feet up, and it does not follow any plan, all it followed was how much "silly" can they put in.
I'm not sure Marvel really cares that much about tying their continuity to the movies anymore. When the last Hulk movie came out, I think the newest Hulk book that week was Skaar, Son of Hulk.

For a while, the X-Men had leather costumes in the comics to match the movies, then they went back to spandex.

Spider-Man shifted to organic web-shooters, then back to mechanical.

The Avengers are another matter. Most media of the last few years has focused on either the "classic" Avengers (Cap, Thor, and Iron Man, among others) or the Ultimate Avengers. And the classic Avengers haven't been in the comics for how long now? Though it does look like Siege is going to fix that, but still.
