  1. Superheroes are a niche US market. And on that note, how many CHV players even read superhero comics, let alone current ones?

    Also, abysmal advertising/marketing.

There would be a lot of fridge logic about their behavior if their primary opposites weren't kicking back in a power that gives you creepy weird skin conditions and evil red underwear if Knights of the Old Republic is to be believed. Maybe that gives strength to the 'Good/Evil defined by narrative' theory...
I'm as big a Star Wars fan as the next guy, but I'll also admit it doesn't hold up well under examination. Jedi don't have it so bad, they're cautious to a fault, but I like that. They aren't perfect, they aren't always right, and while some of them know that, some also refuse to accept it.

The whole Sith thing, especially the Rule of Two silliness, is so contradictory though it's almost painful to read at times. I can attest to it to an extent though after running an RPVG for a while. If you don't give a group of morally unrestrained types a target, they -will- turn in on themselves. Nature of the beast, you could say.
  3. Kheldians are about the only bit of the City of Heroes universe that I do not like. I'd play a human form Warshade, just not as a... whatever they are in CoH Lore. >.>

That in mind, I have an NRG/NRG blaster who's pretty much the same thing as a PB, just without all the alien/shapeshifting silliness.

I had a Bane Spider a while back who was thief that specialized in stealing power armor and weaponry.

Sitting on a Crab "black widow" type character that got her suit of armor from her last husband, who was an Arachnos scientist.

Heh, now that I think about it, sitting on a Fortunata that's the same character as my Mind/Psi Dom (and namesake here, fwiw) who started trying to adopt their techniques.

    Quick sidenote: Huzzah! 1000 posts!

    I'd say it's both.

I forget where I read or heard it, but the definition of evil that sticks out to me the most has to do with personal interest versus concern for others. Granted there's levels to it and it depends on what the action is, but essentially doing something for the benefit of others is heroic, while doing something for yourself -can- be evil.

As far as Team Dark here, they're more anti-heroes.
Rouge has an evil motivation, evil goal, but heroic outcome.
Omega has a neutral-ish motivation, evil goal, but heroic outcome
Shadow has a heroic-ish motivation, evil method, and heroic outcome

Reminds me of the Deathwalker episode from season 1 of Babylon 5 that I watched last night. Deathwalker is an alien general that spent years slaughtering innocents for biological research. Her entire race was thought to have been wiped out (from wars against her, I think) until she unexpectedly shows up on Babylon 5, but it doesn't look like she's aged. Deathwalker approaches the humans, and offers them her life's work; an immortality serum, and she's proof it's successful. So the human government wants her sent back to Earth asap so they can begin working on production of the serum. The human commander of B5 doesn't has to follow his orders, but he's rationalized it that if they can save lives with her serum, then all the deaths she caused will have meant something.

But the League of Unaligned Worlds, who were Deathwalker's main targets during her research, want her put to trial (and promptly executed) on the station. Some political wrangling later, Deathwalker ends up headed to Earth after all, and it's then that she reveals the catch to the serum. She doesn't explain the specifics, but the only way the immortality serum works is if you take the life of another to improve your own. Humans will end up as Deathwalker's now nigh extinct race if they take advantage of her serum.

Deathwalker knew exactly what she was doing all along, and the problems it would cause playing the races against each other. So while she had a "heroic" goal with the immortality serum, the means to make it and what she wanted to do with it with incredibly evil.
  5. I have an Elec/Kin Corr currently at 24th. Sort of leaning on a Sapper build for something different.

Played fine solo until the mid teens when mobs starting drastically out-scaling my damage output. Getting to 24 was a team only effort too. Haven't played the toon again, solo or on teams, since hitting 24trh over DXP though. I plan on getting back around to it, but the late teens/low 20's performance was so blah it's not a high priority. Required a lot more slotting maintenance than I generally like to do.

Hi person I've never ever heard of!
  7. I've encountered so many RPers who butcher the language so badly they must have been touched in a bad place by their English teachers. These days, I'm thrilled just to see something vaguely resembling standard spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Getting people to pay attention to -grammar- too?! Gah, don't get your hopes up.
  8. Bah. You heroic types and your associating with other goody two shoes RPers.

    Redside Heroics

Sort of? I have a character with MPD, first she was a hero and then she developed a psychotically insane persona, which is what landed her in the Isles. With GR, she'll finally get to go back to Paragon.

B-but... gah... this thread makes my head hurt. >.<
  10. I don't bother start to slot IO sets until level 39-40, and I don't touch common IOs until 47. Imho, you fly through the teens so fast it's not worth it to slot any more than drops, and SOs work fine for the 20's and most of the 30's.

Hell, using a lvl 50 Inv/NRG Tank that was left as a mule and only about 90% slotted with level 48-50 SOs (and nothing else), I was able to off-tank against Rommy at the end of the ITF a few weeks ago.

    Nifty. Many thanks!

    Elec/???

Tossing around a new Brute concept for PVE. No more Willpower or Invulnerability though, done those enough.

With that in mind, anyone able to comment on the synergies the other secondaries may or may not have with Electric Melee?

It bugs the living goolies out of me, and smacks of pretentiousness - even if some of these folk are really quite lovely.
At least one can ignore rambling character descriptions. Want to get any of my characters out of a room? Start rambling on in local for paragraphs at a clip in noirspeak/purple prose. Y'know, "/em, takes a long, sorrowful look into the bottom of his almost empty glass, tilting the cup to watch the intoxicating liquid circle around the depths of the glass. It had been a bad day, yaddaa yadda yadda blah blah blah." Good gods do I hate that.

I find a Legacy Driver package dated 2/24/2010 on the ATI site. The older cards, like yours, have gone to the Legacy Driver package. I'd recommend using Option 1, the full suite download.

The best instructions I've seen to update ATI graphics drivers is as follows:

Download the drivers linked to above, but don't install them. Download and install DriverSweeper but don't run it yet. Uninstall the video card and it's drivers, the Catalyst Control Center and any other ATI Display software. Reboot into Safe Mode. Run DriverSweeper and let it remove any ATI Display remnants it finds. ...
Everything related to ATI or a specific file type?
  15. Was told to start a new thread, so here goes. After loading the latest patch, I lockup (sound loop with a graphics degrade) pretty much immediately upon loading the character select screen. Sometimes I'll get a popup that says the graphics card has been reset because it stopped responding, sometimes I don't. This -never- happened before the patch.

I've updated the drivers for my graphics card, and gotten any Windows updates I might have missed.

In the meantime, here's what cohhelper says. Please help! And many thanks in advance.

Same thing happened to me. I'm in the process of updating everything, so I won't know what worked for a while.

I'll ask again, did the new patch increase the base requirements to run the game or something?

Did they increase the base requirements for the game with the newest patch? I didn't think my system was that old, but maybe it is.

I got a message like this for the first time ever last night after installing the newest patch. Crashed at the character select screen. I updated the drivers, and got to log in for about 2 seconds before crashing. Going to tinker with the other system updates, and see if that helps.

  22. I iz slightly confuzzled.

    Is the alignment system
    Hero <-> Vigilante
    or
    Hero <-> Vigiliante <-> Villain?

Do you stop at Vigilante or can a Hero go Vigilante and then Villain?
