But how many kinetic combat sets did you use? I didn't want to toss a few billion into my 9th or 10th level 50 alt... figured the resistance/regen route would work, and it has so far, plus its much cheaper then going lethal/smash def on a willpower tanker. (especially when you have to get combat jumping, and weave to do it, some like you said, even take maneuvers, in addition to slotted kinetic combats, and other +lethal/smash def sets)

Quote:Do you play your level 50s? Well, obviously you do, cuz you want to advance them into the incarnate system.Read the following sentence i said Eric, you have to have infamy or influence to "blow" on that exchange of shards to threads. This is again not a fair trade for casual gamers I don't have millions or billions to use when i'm still trying to get all my IO sets complete.
Do you get inf from killing mobs? Well, yes, yes you do.
Do you get shards from also killing mobs? Again yes.
Do you get more inf then shards from killing mobs? Yes. Shards drop at a much lower rate then most recipes drop at.
If you answered Yes to all of the above questions, then you can afford to convert shards into threads.
If you answered yes to all of the above questions when the word 'shard' is replaced with the word 'thread' then you can afford to convert threads into iXP.
So how is the 'casual' player not able to afford to use this system? Inf literally rains from the sky, so saying 'BUT I'M POOR' is really not a good excuse. -
Quote:4 uncommons, and 100 threads and 100 mil inf = 1 rare, 100 threads = 25 astral merits, or 5 emp merits, inf is easy enough to get.
What is needed in threads and components to craft new components?- Common = 20 Threads
- Uncommon = 60 Threads
- Rare = 100 Threads + 4 Uncommons (240 Threads) + 100 mil Inf
= 340 Threads + 100 mil Inf
- V.Rare = 0 Threads + 4 Rares (1,360 Threads + 400 mil Inf) + 400 mil Inf
= 1,360 Threads + 800 mil Inf
4 rares + 400 mil inf = 1 very rare, so techincally if you have 16 uncommons 5 emp merits, and 1 billion inf, you can get yourself a very rare much faster then waiting for 30 emp merits...
And with the fact that uncommon components seem to drop MUCH more often then common components, and the fact you can't upgrade common components to uncommon componets, i kinda like uncommon being more common. Means i can get my t4 faster (as it only requires 2 uncommons to actually 'build' manually) -
See,i went a different route on my willpower/fire tanker. I have very low lethal/smash def (i like like 20% or lower, mainly from set bonuses and such) but i have very high lethal/smash resistance. (67%, 90% with SoW up) and with the spiritual alpha boost i have upwards to 600% regen (over 1000% with full RttC up) and i last just fine on romans.
Before i jump into a group i usually pop SoW, but when it crashes, i either hit orange inspirations, or just keep on dealing damage /fire melee on a tanker has 2 PBAoEs, and BU helps thin the herd out a lot when facing loads of romans. If i can survive the alpha, i can last forever, and I've tanked rommy with 0 issues on my part, even without SoW up and active. High lethal/smash resistance seems to work pretty well (stacked with high +regen, especially from the spirtual alpha boost) -
Yeah, i have a blast with that on my MM. the t4 ion, and its ability to hit the same target multiple times is just pure amazing. get a kin on the team, and i'm hitting for 3k+ a jump.. (capped damage, and 80%+ -res means some nasty nasty damage)
-
Quote:One thing you want to consider here is you can upgrade uncommon components into rare components, but you can't upgrade commons into uncommons, so having 'uncommon' being more 'common' then 'common' actually makes sense, as you can then use all those 'uncommons' to make yourself some rares or very rares, instead of breaking them down and making commons.Yes, the amusing thing is that, after you've run a few trials, the Uncommon table becomes functionally worse than the supposedly worst option (10 threads), because no one could possibly use as many Uncommons as seem to drop, and because Uncommons only break down into 8-10 threads.
Now whether that's actually a problem or not is another question, and I obviously can't speak for anyone else -- but it is interesting that Common components are far and away the biggest bottleneck for my own progression through the Incarnate system. -
Since day 1 of i20 hitting live i think i've won over 30 lambdas, and about a dozen or so Bafs. my first 2 bafs were failed, but only because the adds were just too nasty and basically steamrolled our faces in. I've been recruiting from both public and private global channels, and getting people i play with on a regular basis. Some know where to do, others don't.
The trials are only as hard as you make them. If you refuse to listen, or don't pay attention to the text in that flashes across your screen, then the trials are going to be a pain. If you pay attention, then you'll be completing these trials in under 20 mins. (my fastest Lambda run is about 22 mins, my fastest Baf is about 13 mins, both getting atlest 1 of the badges required in Master Of, and my fastest Lambda run was while doing the no acids badge, and just zerging marauder down. -
Add me to that group too been there since day 2 actually.. got lucky on some rare drops. and grinded Lambda until my system crashed *twice* and had to goto work *late both wednesday and thursday...*

Eh, while i do notice the end drop from havin to resummon and reupgrade, there are situations where you just have to deal with the fact your going to lose either your full end bar, or all your pets.
As a /traps, you have plenty more to offer the team then your 6 mobile fortresses of doom. Acid mortar in itself can add a solid 20% damage increase, more so if things have a higher base def (or you have a lower tohit, which in the case of +4 mobs, you have a lower base tohit chance) FFG gives mez protection, and the trials are packed full of mez happy mobs. While it doesn't protect against fear, it covers the rest of the bases pretty well. Caltrops still messes with mobs AI, and if you can get multiple fields of them out, you can basically force the AI to run in circle while you (or your teammates) proceed to bash some face in.
I run upwards of 5 toggles at all times, and with the new trials, i've noticed i even keep super speed toggled, just to be able to get around places faster, especially if there isn't a kin on the team. That hurts the end bar something fierce, and having to resummon and reupgrade on top of that can really take its toil, but if i know ahead of time that my pets are just going to die anyways (bum rushing Marauder, the alpha almost always nukes my pets) or get in the way (temp power run in lambda) then i don't bother with resummoning until i know things are under control (after TPing out of the various warehouses after getting all 10 temps, or once marauder has some healthy debuffs on him)
a well built mastermind by default is a powerhouse, and these new trials may be the reality check people need to make them realize they aren't gods. I for one, really enjoy these trials, even if my pets get chewed up and spit out more often then not.
Adapt or die as Hanna puts it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRUx88vRjIk) -
My vote is my bot/traps. I just have to much fun on her its really unreal sometimes.

Quote:Mob sizes still scale with team size, but AV strength doesn't. And its hard to scale that in. What exactly would you scale? HP? resistances? powers? damage? Remember you don't want to create a holy trinity situation, so you can't scale things too far back, or it becomes easy mode for most ATs. This game is still balanced around SOs, you can can't include IOs into your balance equation.I'd personally look at that as a technical challenge to solve, rather than an excuse not to bother. Way back in the day, one of the game's selling points was that encounters scaled to the team size, so that both small teams and large teams would feel properly challenged, as opposed to other games where static content could prove too hard for smaller teams and too easy for larger teams.
So what happened to that? Honest question here. What happened to content scaling with team size? Did we conclude that it wasn't working or that it was pointless or something? Because I've heard that same explanation practically since Incarnates began: "If you don't balance it for many people, then many people will trivialise it."
So let's come up with a system that scales better, if the old one is insufficient. If it's a problem, then let's address that problem, instead of working around it. This is very much at the heart of why there's such a gulf between quote-unquote "solo" content and massive multi-team raids - because the only place where enemy spawn scaling to team size is even considered these days is solo via the mission difficulty slider, or on small teams of two and three. And it shouldn't be like that.
The trails are balanced around the incarnate powers. Once you get those, things become much much easier to handle, IOs and even the alpha boost may not actually help you tackle the massive group around marauder, but 3 - 4 judgement blasts will. -

I followed the guides.
step 1) Clear the road around Lambda until you get to the gate. then clear the courtyard, then clear the turrets up top.
step 2) Kill the security team, Inform everyone to NOT CLICK ON ANY DOORS. Then i explain what we need to do, usually spliting the team evenly (or giving the weapon cache side 1 extra person, as that map sucks) and grabbing all the temps.
step 3) I ask who has the acids, and who has the pacifications. I inform the people who have acids that they need to blow up portals ASAP but to not waste acids on a portal someone else is already at. once we're down to 2 - 4 portals, i engage marauder, having someone pacifiy him right away. Usually you want to pop judgement and destiny powers to clear and survive his herd of reinforcements.
Step 4) Keep debuffs on Marauder as much as possible, pacifiying him when he enrages, and closing the remaining portals as Marauder jumps around. Keep hitting destiny and judgement powers to clear the ambushes and keep us alive. Keep up step 4 until Marauder dies, then repeat 1 - 4 for the next lambda run.
I have about a 80% success rate, with both Pugs, and premades. -
Quote:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=213578I don't need double XP or double Threads or all the dumb changes in I20 that nobody likes to be rolled back, or even for PvP to be fixed or bases to be given attention to.
All I want is for the power icons to be corrected. Villain Ancillaries have had many icons with the wrong colors since I18's launch, and there's a great many icons with the wrong... icon. )-:
Should fix all your issues with Icons. -
Quote:The problem is high level characters multiply the difficulty bar. If the dev's design with 3 level 50s in mind, then with 8, its trivial, where if they design with 8 in mind, with 3 its a challenge. When did I? I listed about five or six things with TF or SF appended, meaning they were all Task Forces, with "Strike Force" being a pointless renaming of the same basic system.
I'm not convinced that TFs can't or shouldn't be small team content, however, especially considering they kind of already are. The Posi TF only requires three people, and I ran it with three people about a week ago. It did not present too much of a problem (bastardised narrative timeline notwithstanding).
So why is it such a novel concept to have small-team TFs at the level cap?
Its like playing at a handicap in just about any game that allows handicaps. You know your playing at a disadvantage, but forcing everyone else to play that way just isn't fair to everyone else. -
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Task_Forces
Small-Team content and Task Forces are 2 different things.
Trials and Task Forces are also 2 different things.
Please stop trying to make them all equal.
Now, you can do some task forces with small teams, and you can do some trials with task force level teams, but they aren't all the same beast. Its like the different between a house cat, a puma, and a lion. They all may be considered 'Cats' but they are by far totally different animals. -
That works too. Though you can premake your own 8 man group, queue up and more often then not start right away, with just your 8 people. Boom. Small groups, made just the way they were before (well, except you have to group up in RWZ or pocket D before queueing up.

Quote:So.. the 2 Lambda's i lead, and WON within an hour of the servers coming up on Liberty, with a 8 man team made ENTIRELY off the LFG system because the global channels were down just doesn't count?yes but the new TFs aren't Incarnate content, they're regular content.
So you can have the Incarnate Praetoria War content with just a single team or even solo, now it doesn't have to skimp on the challenge, infact it shouldn't.
Edit: Unless you meant the new trials, of which only the Lambda is minimum 8 people and that's not going to happen unless the team is really, really good or people have got both of their Incarnate level shifts.
Granted, I team pretty regularly, and I use the global channels a lot, and i have a pretty large global friends list, so most of the people the LFG threw into my group i at lest teamed with one time or another, so we weren't ALL complete strangers, but NOONE else had done the Lambdas before, and I personally have only ran them twice on the betas, one time being a complete failure.
It is possible to complete Lambda (and BAF) with the minimal people. Maybe they should give us a badge for it so people will stop saying its impossible... -

Quote:I play a bot/traps, I won the first Lambda on liberty, and i did it with 8 people. the first time i noticed the Artillery was when i say the awesome looking animation hit absolutely nothing because everyone was moving around so much. I really don't think it does very much damage, as I had the icon on me as i exited the room with the security team in it, and i had no pets out, and my HP bar didnt even move.Different Strengths and Weaknesses=!One AT getting penalised above all others by an auto-hit that makes it hard for the main selling point of the AT.
It's like telling Scrappers and Stalkers that Crits get turned off every 3 seconds, or telling Brutes that their Fury will be reset to 0 every 5 secs.
Thats how it feels being a Bot/Traps MM in the final stage.
We have Lambda on farm on liberty right now, we can complete it in about 20-ish minutes with a 100% success rate. I'm not seeing the issue, especially when i'm piloting a bot/traps MM every time. -
Quote:I ran 3 Lambda trials, failed 1, succeeded in 2, with a group built entirely from the LFG system, and me leading, having only ran 2 (one failure) lambdas on test, which i did not lead. I was able to unlock my interface, and after running a 4th lambda (i was 5 threads short) able to craft my t1. After 2 attempts at a BAF, and 1 more successful Lambda, i was able to slot my t2 interface boost, have about 20% completion on my judgement, and about 60% completion on my destiny.Okay, all this is pretty bewildering, but let me see if I have it straight.
To unlock and slot *one* of the new incarnate abilities, a player can either:
A. Fail at one trial about 10 times.
B. Succeed at one trial about 3 times, plus spend about 65 mil inf.
Since most of my playtime in this game is with PUGs, and many of my level 50s do not have 65 mil inf, it's almost certain that A is my only option.
Compare that with the alpha slot, which was unlocked in a mission arc that could usually be run solo and that could be slotted in 1 or 2 runs of any of a half dozen TFs.
Meanwhile, players are being encouraged to use sloppy tactics and griefers are having a field day.
Seriously, did the same devs create both these systems? Did anyone check for automatons?
All without spending a single inf, and all within about 4 hours time.
I looked up the guides, and ran the trials the way they are designed to be ran, and won more often then i didnt on lambda, BAF we got siege and nightstar to about 15% but got overwhelmed with adds (those 9PU thingys suck) and we figured out we'll just farm lambda for awhile once we destiny, and go back to BAF. -
My first lambda, was done with the globals down, and the first 8 people that joined in the LGF system. I lead it (and i've only ran 2 lambdas on test, 1 fail, 1 win) and we won, first time. got all 10 acids, all 10 grenades, and downed maraduer with no problem.
Second run, we got cocky, and tried for master of, and we failed. so horribly. but it was still fun. Third time, won, fourth, won, fifth, won. did 2 Bafs, failed both.
For my server, and group of people, Lambda is already on farm. We queue, we rock, we get our threads/astrals/components, we requeue, and go again. Baf is gonna be tough, but i figure once we start getting higher destiny powers (or even stacked interface powers) baf will be a lot easier to manage.
Read the guides, learn what your doing before you do it, and you wont faceplant the entire mission. There are 2 very GOOD guides out there on how to do the lambda, and how to do the BAF. follow them, and you'll win. -
I don't know about you, but i managed to run 3 Lambdas (2 of them successful, the other couldn't deal with all the adds) in 8 people, and with globals down, and managed to unlock and slot my t1 interface in the process.
so.. its really not that hard, once you get the gist of it. -
Keep in mind the incarnate trials run off different tohit values, so the 'old' 45% def isn't soft capped against them anymore. You'll need about 14% more defense in order to maintain your softcap.
-
I repeat. Its Imposssible to flip the entire stock of items on the market and make a profit.
Its as simple as that. the reason non purple items go for upwards of 40 million is because those items are extremely useful (Aegis providing 4.7% AOE def, obliterations adding damage, and acc, and recharge, AND def, etc etc) thus they are more valuable. I can list an obliteration recipes for 1 inf, and it'll sell for over 20 mil. How is that MY fault as the marketeer?
We (the marketeers) DO NOT SET PRICES. The BUYERS set the prices. If people are too stupid to realize the last 5 prices listed are not a correct statement for what things are going for, then how is it our fault?
