I guess there is now a price cap on everything, since everything is convertible and fungible? I wish that they would just cut inf generation by 90%, but that's just me.

  3. I've got to tell you, I've never had a bad PUG experience.

Once you have played this game for a few months, it is trivial to make a self-sufficient toon. So playing on a team just adds gasoline to the fire in terms of goodness.

I've played PUGs with idiots, I've played PUGS with (self-proclaimed) masters. I wish I could remember who first said this but, "It's not like the game is very hard".

If you opt into a PUG, and that PUG doesn't perform as per your expectations, you might want to start soloing. Otherwise, just enjoy the ride!

    Market Down?

Is this an insidious plot to prove that you CAN play CoX without either the marketplace or AE?

Well I will have no part of it!!!! Good day sir!
  5. To OP's second post, here is something I've been playing around with on my BS/INV scrapper. Nothing RIDICULOUSLY expensive, although a Glad Armor 3% would definitely make life easier. I'm sure this can be improved in a dozen ways; I'm open to criticism.

    I > Team

I haven't read all the posts on this thread, but it totally depends on the team. If it is a pick-up sewer team, meh, who cares. No one is all that strong at that point. If it is a pick-up ITF, meh, who cares. No one is all that weak at that point. But if you are playing in a mid-level type group that is still feeling out their powers, the sum is definitely greater than the sum of their parts. If you are on a Mo___ run, then you better stick with the plan!

I think a lot of experienced players are used to soloing, and tend to bring those play styles (and builds) when they join PUGs. If you can solo AVs, what's the point of running with an 8-man team running PI radio missions? And what's the fun?

I don't particularly care if someone branches off on a team I'm on. If they die, that's what the hospital is for. If they succeed, then they just made the rest of the team's life a bit easier, and they probably felt a sense of pride. Just don't subject everyone else to unnecessary aggro and we're all cool.

Nice! Goes to show that you need to buy for two!
  8. One of the ways I like to use to pick up a couple of quick million on new toons:

Find common salvage with zero or few bids, and with a relatively small amount of supply. Currently that looks like mid-level tech and high-level arcane. Put in some lowball bids, then repost them at 100-1000 times what you initially bought them for. Sooner or later (almost always sooner) someone will try to run up the market and you will make a nice little profit when they lift you out of your position.

This also beats buying and vendoring, since you don't actually have to leave the WW to go to the store.

No wait, I'm not done yet! Base fees would include influence (at 2000-1) as well as prestige, and every level 50 has to do one hour of community service a week, by running ITFs and donating all merit rolls to a random newbie in Atlas Park.
  10. How about taking everything that has been sitting in storage in a base for over 60 days and auto posting it to the market for 5 inf? All proceeds go towards building BaB's summer house in the British Virgin Islands.

Some sort of mass welfare like this (in my opinion) would solve a lot of the things that people complain about on this forum!

I have just today reached level 50 on my first hero. He is strong, yet incomplete. Therefore I ask of you, what is the best way to acquire the necessary goods/influence for said goods to make him the best that he can be? He is quite capable of defeating +0x8 (and possibly greater) spawns on his own. Having learned much from this Forum, it seems that two options are open to me. The first of these options is to run Task Forces and acquire Merits (whereby I sell such drops as I might acquire), and then trade in my Merits for random rolls from the level 35-39 bracket. The other option is to farm the AE and trade in my tickets for the same drops from the same bracket. Which of these options, or which of any other option, will give the best "bang for my buck"?
To OP, do you mean doing merit rolls versus gold AE ticket rolls (which draw from the same recipe pool) or merit rolls versus bronze AE ticket rolls (a different pool but a lot cheaper)? If you mean the latter, as it seems most repliers have assumed, then you will usually make more money with the AE. Most of your recipe rolls will not be worth a whole lot, but they only cost 60-70 tickets a roll, and some of them you will be able to sell for 7 or 8 figures.

If you mean the former (merit rolls v. gold AE ticket rolls), it depends on how you like to play. If you have a farming toon, then it might be quicker to earn 3500-4000 tickets than to gain 20 merits on TFs and such. But if you have a playing toon, I'd do TFs for merits. It's a lot more fun and less repetitive.

  13. This is exactly my point.

OP, i have erased this drop many times, because it was not worth anyone's time to tie up sell space.

Let us know, and put in a bid for 900,000,000 and you will get it. If you want to buy it for less than 1,000,000 (I don't know what market is on confuse triple, nor where it comes from) then someone needs to step up.

Really? I disagree with your point (I have hundreds of specific IOs in storage, and I am positive I am not the only one). And If someone were offering the right price to lead me to respec, I would do so.

The price right now is too low. For top end things, that is.

If more than a few hit the cap, the Dev's hands will basically be forced. Either they'll have to raise the inf cap, increase the supply somehow (i.e. bump the drop rate, artificially add more to the market, etc), or remove inf from the market.

IMO, the last option is the best, since there's going to be virtually zero inf leaving the market come the next update (removing the transaction fees), which means inflation will spike. They need to create a legitimate (legitimate = something people are willing to use, if not want to use) inf sink, to begin draining at least some inf from the economy (ideally, to cause the total inf in the economy to begin slowly decreasing, increasing the purchasing power of inf). I don't think there's any one way they could do this, but a few different ones (fix prestige conversion, create artificial sellers on the market, etc) might be enough.
To the first point, I think that if people put a couple of 1,000,000,000 bids out on some lvl 33 Kinetic Combat pieces, and they were able to communicate those bids (on these forums, perhaps), then they would get their supply pretty quick. That tells me that the current supply that is currently in bases and on toons are not coming to market because there is not enough incentive. Yeah, I took Econ 102 as well. Heck, I taught it in grad school, hopefully not to you, since I'm not sure you are understanding how demand and supply interact in a multi-period environment.

To the second, I agree with your observation, but I would bet the farm on the second option within the next year or two. I'm not sure of which mechanism they will use, but I would bet even money that by the time 2012 rolls around, you will be able to "buy" any enhancement you want from a game vendor.
  17. I suspect we will see the continued trend of good items getting more expensive and not-so-good items getting cheaper, people will complain about high prices and other people will complain about not enough supply (which generally means prices are too low).

So yes, continued inflation. It will be interesting to see how many different items on the market hit the influence cap over the next year.

I think that if they posted the price and quantity and the identity of every bid and offer for the last 6 months, people would still complain.

Nothing personal to you all_hell, but "niches" don't come and go. Buyers come and go. The whole point of a "niche" is that it lasts. And frankly, at least 20 other people on these boards are doing the same thing you are. If the other 19 are lazy (which I am) so much the better for you!

To OP, run a bunch of AE missions (35-39 bronze is a good measure) and when you are full of recipes, check their price on the market. Mostly, a bid over 100k means a bid of over 3mm on the crafted.

  21. Thanks for the inputs -- definitely some food for thought. I didn't run the numbers on Active defense to see I only needed one recharge. I think I may tweak my original build based on your thoughts. I'd rather give up Shadow Maul than Shadow Punch, but I'd need to find another mule for Obliteration. And I wouldn't want to give up True Grit for a little more defense -- that 12.7% resistance helps survivability -- and I'd want to watch endurance needs closely. Blues don't always drop when you need them.

FYI, I used Kin Combat because of the fewer slot usage as well as because I have a ton of those lying around the base. Respecs are a dime a dozen, so I'm not too concerned about making horrible sub-optimal mistakes.

    Thanks again!
  22. My only "complaint" is that I rather like having two pools to play in rather than just one. No biggie.
