Reaching Soft Defense Cap with Invuln Scrapper?
Answered my own question. It is possible, but requires sacrificing an attack to pick up Confront, and sacrificing the slots to put 6 into Confront. Honestly, the returns are probably better to just come close. For instance, the build I'm posting here will probably be fairly effective as it is over the cap with only a small amount of enemies in the range of Invincibility. It is also over the cap for Lethal damage with parry, and parry puts you over 40% against melee. So, in most cases, this build will make it.

...dude, really?
Okay, I was not gonna post in this thread. I don't generally respond to such "I dare ya" threads.
But then you made an honest effort. You did. Your build as posted is a worthy toon, and would serve very well.
But I feel Invuln can do better.
I dug back in my slush pile of builds, thinking I had a beast that would show ya what can be done, and sadly, the BoTZ nerf had hurt it. Hurt it bad.
So, I rebuilt it. is this as good as it can get? I doubt it. But this is plenty good.
Now, I have not put this build on a live toon, because it is such ridiculous overkill. I would never sink this kind of recources into a single build, because it's just way too much.
But just for comparison's sake, here is The Invincible One:

The two builds would have roughly the same results as far as defense is concerned, with the exception that mine avoided sacrificing any extra powers and/or slots. The reason being, almost every enemy you will face has smashing/lethal as a portion of their attack. Attacks that don't deal ANY smash/lethal damage are fairly rare in CoH, and would be the only major concern, assuming they came from outside melee range. Is my build perfect? Of course not. Does it serve the purpose of surviving in the event of a tanker fail or a need to solo difficult missions? Probably. On paper, it does. Testing it will be more difficult. I've respecced into it, but am working on crafting all the IOs I need. It will be interesting to see how well it works. With luck, I'll be impressed at my own survivability. Sadly, I have little influence at the moment. I'll have to farm some more up with my WS. I have far too many expensive builds.
After I finish testing the build I created, I might consider making an Overkill build, though I'd be more inclined to attempt that on a Tanker than a Scrapper, as Scrappers need to focus on damage as much as possible in order to perform our role effectively.

I know this isn't what you're looking for, but this is my ma/inv, a hybrid build of things Organica, I think Bass Ackward, and my cheapness.
I feel you should take a secondary that does what you want it to do. Invuln is a mix of resistance, defense, and healing. Similar to WP, but it's more about the S/L resist.
I personally think trying to cap Inv is like making banana splits with apples. It can be done, but it's not what was intended and it's not as good.
Edit - That said, holy crap, Mauk2. Good job.

Mauk2, if you stick the Miracles in Health instead and put the heal IO in Physical Perfection, you'll get more total regeneration due to the higher base. Or you could save a slot by just having the proc in Physical Perfection, and you'd STILL have slightly higher regeneration. If price is no object (as indicated by the PvP +3% def), consider using two L53 Enzymes in Invincibility to save another slot. Weave should have def/end instead of def/end/rech. And I'd put the def instead of def/end/rech in Manuevers. I'd personally skip Super Jump in favor of Ninja Running and Resist Energies, but I think I have more tolerance for non travel power builds than most people. I'd probably stick one of the slots in Confront to try to get better uptime on Dull Pain. Or maybe there's a way to use two slots to hit the soft cap on energy and negative (currently 43% as modified). Dono. Your build is a nice starting point, though.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news... but Willpower sucks!!! you're better off rolling a regen
|
^Professional Katana/regen build thread
See, I tend to design toons according to my own criteria: Namely, I feel all toons should consider four performance areas.
Offense
Defense
Mobility
Utility
This particular build scores excellent to decent in all four criteria. I like that. It also has zero dead powers. I like that a lot. Efficient builds are usually fun builds.
I'd probably stick one of the slots in Confront to try to get better uptime on Dull Pain. Or maybe there's a way to use two slots to hit the soft cap on energy and negative (currently 43% as modified). Dono. Your build is a nice starting point, though. |
But then again, I'd be more likely just to roll with the slotting and tidy up the setting a bit. I mean, this build is SO over the top. It is fast as hell, mostly end-sufficient, has okay single target and decent AOE, top-notch defenses, and decent utility in the aggro-holding and team buffing areas.
It would solo like a monster, farm like a combine, and have people muttering to themselves on teams.
What's not to love?
This is what I'm running at the moment on my main, and I gotta say, looking at mauk2's build, it's tempting to throw some more money at him. That being said, what I'm running is suitable for pretty much everything short of some of the crazier things that people attempt. And come to think of it, I havn't really tried anything too crazy...may have to get on that.

This is a build that I use and is similar to a build that I used to do some crazy stuff. I haven't changed it for the Miracle +Recovery change so the Endurance can be an issue sometimes. But with a few changes it can be solved.
And it's a pricey build...

Good lord.
A softcapped, DM/inv scrapper, that still has a notable attack chain.
Wow.
Skipped the fitness pool.... leaning on consumption... Hrrrrrm. Hasten and purples for 140 percent global recharge.....
Holy moly.
Okay! You win!
Yeah JSHMOE's /inv is something else. He's soloed the ITF and tanked Lord Recluse in the STF.
That DM/Inv build is a thing of beauty. For it to solo an ITF, and be able to tank Lord Recluse is amazing.
Edit: I love your DM/Inv so much, I've decided to roll one myself and give my own build a go. Cheers for the inspiration.

I could see a couple of things that could be changed on that...
The formatting code and the data chunk.
I needs the chunk!!!
chunk for iggy of the above screwy lookin build

I hate to be the bringer of bad news... but Willpower sucks!!! you're better off rolling a regen
|
^Professional Katana/regen build thread
Hmm... wouldnt it be more beneficial to get the E/N and F/C closer to softcap and let the S/L be ~40 (i mean, invuln has big resists to S/L, so...)
Just wondering... *shrug*
ahhhh
thank you... thank you
I'm still wiggling some slots around on his build, too... not liking that it doesn't have the ST attack string...

That particular build that I posted isn't the one I used though. I did it before the i17 changes, but the build is somewhat similar. My endurance management was better and the defenses were SLIGHTLY higher. I haven't a need to try and put it back to where it was because I did what I set out to do and the build is more than good enough to handle what I do with it now. Just play.
Here's my shot at it...

Runs the Smite-SL-Smite-MG gapless when hasten is up
SL is slotted up like those crazy DM/SD builds out there
Accuracy on Smite suck with out max SD
Could maybe find a slot for a kismet
Could maybe use more recharge to shorten up hasten downtime
And it sucks working on weekends!!! should be against the law
Nice changes Iggy, that's a ton better than the changes I made for him.

Has anyone come up with a build that allows an Invuln scrapper to consistently have the soft defense cap, even in fights against a single AV/EB? How much defense bonus would be needed from sets in order for that to happen?
