OK, I think I will give up even earlier than at the end of Night Ward, I am lvl 24 and close to finish First Ward story arcs... no way I am going to spend 5 lvls killing "Awakened Bosses detained by DUST" and boss level seedlings...

Hehhehe no worries Thirty-Seven, I like corrections ;-)

Quote:I think that for a "speedster meleer", the attack set is really down to personal preference. I personally think that Dark Melee feels fast and Shadow Maul fills the bill for a flurry attack; I am not picking it up just because I already have too many and feels to "magic" for my concept. But anything works if it feels speedy to you.my " Speedster " toon is a elec / kin troller
i have been trying to make a speedster guy as well , if you want a mele speedster you might wanna consider claws , my claws / sr brute is a flying buzzsaw of speedy death . hopefully one day we will get a speed mele / speed secondary because no set really makes you feel like the flash
super sonic punch FTW
After all the experimenting in this thread, what I think it is key is +movement in the form of: 1) armor (SR/Elec/VEAT), 2) two or three slotting Swift/Sprint/Quickness/Lightning Reflexes, 3) IOs bonuses (Kinetic Kombat, which provides also nice melee defence for SR/VEAT; the +7,5% speed proc in Gift of the Ancients, many bonuses from 2 slotting sets like Aegis, Gaussian, Regenerative Tissue, Performance Shifter, Force Feedback,...), 4) Incarnate powers with +movement (Agility, Musculature,...), and 5) optionally use the short-lived buffs from SG base and Day Job Commuter (+15% each). And finally, pick up SuperSpeed powers at leisure just for flavour...
Cheers

Quote:My bad! I am not an English native speaker, I wrote it as I would pronounce it. I corrected the title in this post, can I change it for the whole thread or a Mod is needed for that?Very cool idea... I just have one comment:
It's "speedster" not "speedester." After all, the word isn't "speede."
Cheers
@Arda -
Yep, they do, but right now they are a PITA for my lvl 23 Water/Time Corr, maybe they will get easier with more levels under my belt. I wouldn't like to have to advance a good bunch of whole levels (even worse, going from lvl 35-lvl 50) killing Seeds and repeating the very same Resitance mission (kill Awakened retained by DUST).

Quote:Now that you say that, I realized after my 3rd build that putting 3 lvl 50s IOs in Swift/Sprint/Quickness is a waste, they are capped with just 2. My 4th build, the Kinetic/SR scrapper, already takes that into account.What about using enhancement boosters so you can two slot Swift/LR/Quickness?
Also, I discovered another 2 sources of +MovementSpeed: SG base buffs and the Day Job "Frequent Commuter". Both give a +15% speed buff, or in the case of the last scrapper build, they add 3 mph each, for a total of 76 mph.
For comparison, if Mid's is right, a regular toon with no movement boosts of any kind (i.e. Quickness), and 1 slotting with lvl 50 IOs each travel power as well as Swift/Hurdle and Sprint, would show those speeds:
Run: 92,5 mph (capped)
Jump: 78 mph (capped)
Fly: 58,6 mph (capped)
So the last build posted (Kin/SR Scrapper) at 70 mph (or 76 mph while the SG base buff and the day job bonus are working) would be way faster than a flyer and almost as fast as a superjumper. All while fighting with movement supression in effect... not bad!
Out of combat, with Ninja Run or similar powers it would hit the running speed cap (92,5 mph) without SuperSpeed. For combat, I guess I would need to slave a Kinetics Defender/Corruptor/Controller, hehehe!
Thanks all for the nice feedback!
@Arda -
Finally, I think this is my favourite, a Kinetic/SR Scrapper. It gets all the "Speedy" powers very soon (last one at lvl 24, not counting sloting), Kinetic Melee it is said to work better in Scrappers, Kinetic Combat IOs were selected first for their SpeedRun bonuses but they also provide nice MeleeDef, and finally the FX sounds from Kinetic Melee would make some sense in an speedester ;-P

DB are very cool and feel really fast, good idea! I still think the best "speedester" feeling comes from Dark Melee, not just because of Shadow Maul, but also the first 2 attacks have very quick punchy animations. I love the sounds FX too. But for me Dark Melee is very magical, no matter what explanation you give to walk around it, and I have a cool tech concept in mind. Moreover I already got 5 toons with dark melee attacks (scrapper, brute, stalker, blaster and dominator).
-
It is a pity, but knowing myself, if I like the toon, I will gave up on the experiment and go Primal once I finish the Night Ward content just to keep playing with the toon.
I can always do it again with another character if the Devs fill the Praetoria gaps till lvl 50 with new content. -
-
Quote:Hhehehe funny that you say that, the resurrection of the Speedester concept started with a Stoner build where I wanted to overcome -speed from Rooted/Granite with speed bonuses from IOs.I know no one has replied with a build other than you but it is interesting to see what you did. I kinda of took the same approach to my brute who is a Stone armor brute because I wanted to try to be self sufficient as far as run speed and not requiring a Kin for a speed boost.
Anyways, keep in mind that the alpha slot can be alpha'ed in particular ways to increase your movement speed as well, with agility giving 33% general movement, musculature 33% run speed,nerve 33% flight speed, and spiritual gives 33% to jumping, If you build for their Radials
Thanks a lot for the Incarnate advice, I was completely ignorant of the speed buffs in some branches. For example, Agility Partial Radial Revamp (I rarely go for Tier 4) puts the Stalker build speed shy of 71 mph!
EDIT: plus Agility is very yummy for SR characters... -
Dear all,
I am running a little experiment. I enjoyed immensely Praetoria when it was released and I have been delighted by the expansion in lore and zones through First Ward, Night Ward and the iTrials. However, since they revamped the first levels experience in Paragon and the Rogue Isles for CoH Freedom (Sept 2011), I have found myself playing exclusively Hero/Villain content.
After one year, and with the new powersets coming out, I decided to go back to Praetoria and try to stay there as much as possible, without setting foot in Primal Earth. My Water Blast/Time Corruptor named Atlantea has been doing well, she finished all the original Praetorian arcs... it was a quite lonely ride I have to say, I think DBF has killed Praetoria just 1 year after the zones were released. Anyway, staying on topic... I changed sides as many times as possible, and ended being a Resitance member. Funny enough, both sides offered me the final mission to go to Primal Earth (Provost Marchand and Steve Sheridan). I got both for fun, tempted to do first one and go, lets say villain, then the other and go heroe, to see if I break the server.
Anyway, she didnt complete any of the two Cross the Rift thingie missions because that would break my only Praetoria experiment. Instead she went through the Praetorian underground to First Ward and I am getting missions there without problems. Blind Makwa wants me to collect something from some graves (creepy!) that are surrounded by purple enemies. So now I have resorted to the newspaper missions from Roadflare to get some levels.
I guess I will have to live in First Ward until I am lvl 30, then I can move to Night Ward... problem is, what to do after finishing Night Ward at lvl 35? Wait in the hope they release new Praetorian content that bridges the gap to lvl 50? Someone knows if I can still go to Primal Earth and join teams for missions? Or do some kind of missions in Primal Earth without being Heroe-Villain/stop being Praetorian, maybe Vanguard ones? Probably I will get stuck and finally go Primal...
I am wondering if anyone has done something similar before and what have been their experiences.
Cheers
@Arda

Hi all,
I have been meaning to build a superspeedester toon, conceptually close to Flash/Quicksilver, since I started to play the game... around 7 years ago! So I think it is about time! I have tried some builds in Mids, that I will post next, but I would be very grateful if I could get some feedback from my fellow players.
Those are the rules I am following:
1) For flavour, I would like to have all the Super Speed pool powers. Yep, including Flurry... but Burnout can be skipped.
2) Does not need to be a meleer, but before someone suggests it, I already have 2 kinetecists. Moreover, while I love kinetics, it does not have the comics superspeedester feeling I am looking for. Therefore, no Kinetecists please. Otherwise, anything is welcome.
3) As much unsuppressed running speed as possible, I think this is the main challenge for this build. That probably means going for Super Reflexes or Electric Armor; or maybe VEAT, but I already got the 4 VEAT combos and the primaries dont feel very superspeedy. I think it will be mandatory to use 3 slots in all Swift, Sprint and Quickness/Lightning Reflexes. Cram as much SpeedRun bonuses as possible from IOs without gimping powers utility, then going for other useful bonuses.
4) Related to the former 2, all ATs are possible. I was thinking Stalker would be cool, as Hide and Placate could simulate the I am soooo fast that you cant see me; but anything works. For SR, scrappers get Quickness it at lvl 20 while the others usually get it much later. For ElA, everybody gets Lightning Reflexes at lvl 20, so this is a point in favour for ElA.
5) For primaries, the obvious choice for flavour would be Dark Melee, for the lovely combo of Shadow Maul + Flurry + Sands of Mu. Figure it out, 10 seconds rooted in the floor while going mental on moving your fists. Yeah, I know, maybe not very superspeedy... anyway, I have around 5 different toons with Dark Melee powers for all the ATs that have them available but Tanks, so I am avoiding Dark Melee. Other options are more than welcome, and if possible, they should make thematical sense: Kinetic Melee because of accumulating kinetic energy at superspeed, similar concept for Electric Melee and static electricity (plus Lightning Rod TP can be seen as a burst of Super Speed), Martial Arts, Street Justice...
I am posting next 2 builds worked around these previous rules. Both, improvements on those builds or new builds/suggestions are welcome!
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the dumb question, but could be someone as nice as to tell me what Premium players get access to in Issue 23 please? I am VIP, so I have no problem, but my wife is Premium and she asked me. I can't get head and tails about that from the patch notes.
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: typo -
I went yesterday to watch it, it was awesome. For me, this is the first superheroes movie with a battle with an epic feeling. I can't recomend it enough!
Quote:As much as I am a Marvel fan, I think this list is a bit biased... what about the genre-defining original Superman movies? The pre-Nolan Batman films? Same on the ther side, there was the infamous Captain America from the 90s among others. Finally, while DC-WB control all the movies they make, the Marvel ones (out of Avnegers characters) are made by other studios (Fox, Sony,...), so it is hard to compare many studios versus one.DC's movie franchise consortium is in far worse shape then you even give them credit for.
The Nolan Bat-chise is the best in the genre period, but take it away and Detective Comics has almost nothing [save the Watchmen] to compare to marvels successful comic book adaptations, and that's even without adding the X-Men & Spiderman trilogies.
It actually elicits wincing when the two brands' movie outings are compared, shall we.. =].
Plus it is not clear to me what is the point of the list, are we comparing quantity or quality of movies? Elektra, Catwoma... I am looking at you!
Cheers

Quote:No offense, but I kind of doubt this kind of movie succeeds in Europe. Usually this kind of humour is not very popular, at least popular enough to buy an expensive cinema ticket. Moreover, we don't even know who those guys are...Hey, it only just came out. Give it some time, some overseas sales and then the DVD and then we'll see.
A lot of films get made with the expectation they might not draw a ton of ticket sales, but clean up on DVD; I'm guessing this is one of those.
Cheers

I think it is evident that the discussion is on a hand-to-hand combat. It makes no sense to discuss who would win in a fight if one of the "fighters" (huh?) has access to a Big Freaking Gun or a Mecha armour...
As Joss Whedon himself explains in the OP link:
"Buffy would go easy at first, but as soon as Natasha popped her with a Widow Sting, she’d start bringing some slayer brawn to the fray,” he told Matheson. “Natasha’s fast, but a couple of good connects and she’s wobbling, possibly something broken — she whips out her glock and now Buffy’s dodging — right where Natasha wants her. Natasha shoots the cable holding the steel barrels and they tumble onto Buffy, nearly burying her — Buffy just arcs out of the way, grabbing the splintered cable and swinging directly onto Natasha, a bullet grazing her cheek as her feet land hard on the Russian’s shoulders, sending her back flat — crack! — on the floor, Buffy wrenching the gun away and tossing it, fist ready for the final strike. Natasha, struggling to stay conscious, says the fight’s over. Buffy agrees, but Natasha explains: She poisoned Buffy hours ago. That waitress that brought her salad …? Natasha smiles. The poison is dormant — ’til it’s activated by adrenaline. Buffy’s eyes narrow. ‘Too bad I didn’t use any.’ Wham! Natasha’s out for the count, and Buffy’s heading — slowly — to Willow for a mystical cleanse."
I don't mind one or the other winning, I like both, but I don't see the point of using arguments as "but if she had a ballistic missile..." to a hand-to-hand combat discussion. It is like discussing who wins in a fight with Superman, and saying "whoever brings kryptonite".
Cheers

Quote:Well, he is in the past, so that makes him a "past character"And the other one is now listed in the main Wikipedia article as a "past character".
Jokes aside, I will miss these 2 characters and I am fine with the way they have been written out (in the words of the inmortal poet, "Is so f*****g romantic"). But I think that this plot deserved a complete episode and not just the last 5-10 mins of a series finale (including few wasted minutes on a subplot to "catch" the guy with the power "to fix the situation").
I have to say I have developed a weird fondness for zippy hoodies due to this TV show
Otherwise, despites Nathan's leave, I enjoyed this last series. Now looking forward to Doctor Who's Christmas special for my UK TV shows fix ;-P
@Arda -
Good to know, thanks!
I enjoyed the last episode (no spoilers!), but the way it ended I was worried about the show continuity, it looked rather conclusive (even with the mandatory flashback at the end).
Also, I hope the 2 main characters involved on the climax of the finale are back for the next season ;-)
@Arda -
Yeah, Nathan is missed but not much ;-P
Still good stuff IMHO.
@Arda -
Hey Babylon,
While I would post HiJackThis as Texas said, you could also give it a go to the suggestions in this post from @MorganReed that were offered when i was having the same problem as you:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...90&postcount=2
The last one was the one that fixed my problem.
Good luck!
