  1. I still believe there's a legal issue with NCSoft selling virtual goods on a game they themselves advertised as "play free forever". This isn't the same as closing a subscription-based MMO, players who bought stuff from the Paragon Store in August 2012 would have reasonably expected to be able to use those items for longer than 4 months. Depending on how much NCSoft is asking for the licence (assuming they're really open to offers), it might be cheaper to get a class action started instead.

    ... but good catch, nonetheless
  3. Shadowstar is the only Warshade in the game capable of flying in human form, as seen in Dark Astoria's finale.

It's heavily implied that Indiana Jones married Sophia Hapgood in Primal Earth - you actually have to rescue Sophia Jones in a radio mission.

According to the billboards you find all over town, Chris Jenkins is Paragon City's resident ambulance chaser, so make sure to give him a call whenever you lose a fight in PvP.
  4. GM Lloyd once helped me too - warm wishes to him!
  5. So many things to praise... I guess I'd have to choose Warwitch for reworking the Hollows, she made sure new heroes wouldn't have to run past lvl 15 mobs to reach their lvl 5 missions, so about half my characters owe her a hug.
  6. SSA #2 is actually pretty good, so if you haven't played it on beta yet please do so now while the servers are still live.
  7. Yes.

As a consequence of a minor causality disrupture brought on by a future time-traveler who stumbles upon our distant past and steps on a butterfly during the Jurassic, modern 21st century Earth will greatly resemble what we now call Primal Earth. I also predict that everybody will be a dog person in that world.

Did you bother to go threadcrap in the Secret World, Champions, WoW etc threads?
No, because I encourage people to find other games after CoH, as long as it's not on NCSoft. Now stop quoting my posts! I don't like you and the less I see of you the better.

    Sell-out.
  9. STOP POSTING ON THIS THREAD!!

Who the hell keeps bumping this travesty? Just let the thread die, obey the forum rules for once and stop talking about, dear god, NCSoft games!! Traitors!!

You keep mentioning that spiritual successor, but what is it? A flash game for iPhonies? A card game? A tabletop set? Champions Online? A whole new game in the early stages of development?

If it's a secret spiritual successor, do we need some special invitation to access?

    Loregasm

Positron, Protean, Arbiter Hawk, Doc Aeon, Viridian, Black Scorpion, Warwitch, thank you for giving us these answers, and thank you for all the work you put into the City over the years. I probably didn't say it enough, so here it goes one last time - you devs rock!

    Best wishes,

    Zem

If you can read this and still buy stuff from them, go nuts. Just don't go crying to the courts when they decide "company realignment" dictates the need to close US and EU servers for Guild Wars II a year from now.

"Martian Translator Device: We come in peace! We come in peace!"

    Both from Mars Attacks (1996).

  15. You'd have to be insane to purchase GW2 knowing that NCSoft is openly withdrawing from western markets. Unless there's an offline version of the game, everything that company sells is suspect, it might be taken away without warning.
  16. I would buy it.

    Whatever they charged.

Whether it would be single-player exclusive or with an option for multiplayer.
  17. Let me start by thanking you devs for finding the time to set this up. It's an incredibly selfless thing to do after having the rug pulled out from under your feet. Anyway, here's a few random lore questions:

    1) What would be the outcome of Emperor Cole and Praetor Duncan's trial? The discussion on whether Cole's actions were justified or not went on for years in the forums and was never resolved, in my head, at least. I imagine both Loyalists and Resistance would like to see some sort of veredict from the dev team.

    2) Mender Silos and Ouroboros were always somewhat bittersweet to interact when playing a hero. What was it the "redeemed" future Nemesis was plotting, saving the world or conquering it? Could you expand on the Menders' purposes and motivations?

    3) Warwitch returned after Nightward's events, something I imagine made Apex very happy. Were you planning something special for those two? What about Horus? Given the Battalion's apparent connection with Kheldians, would everyone's favorite Peacebringer be returning as well?

    4) Regarding the Shining Stars, late game plots suggest something of a confluence between heroes, villains and Praetorians to deal with world-shattering threats, so it stands to reason that both Proton and Flambeaux would eventually return to the team. Plus, rogue tips hint at some sort of redemption on Flambeaux's part. What were your plans regarding the eventual fate of the Stars, if any?

    5) Can you expand on the decision to kill Statesman, Sister Psyche, Malaise and Miss Liberty, and were there any plans to bring any of them back in the future, or having the players meet them again in new storylines taking part in the past?

    6) Manticore seemed to be heading towards a dark place. What were you planning to do with him, stay Vigilante or cross over to the red side entirely?

    7) Would Ghost Widow ever be restored? What about the Wretch?

    8) Why didn't Emperor Cole use his super-laggy lightning power to crash the server when the incarnates attacked, like he did against Arachnos?

    9) Let's talk about Patrick Duncan, Ms. Liberty's father. Who was he? Did he have an alter ego? I always speculated that he could be Hero One or Hero 1 - both were active in the lore around 1976, so the time fits, they used the same parent-offspring naming system as Miss Liberty/Ms. Liberty, and most of all, why else would Meg inherit Excalibur if not from her father or older brother? Anyway, can you elaborate on the matter?

    10) Pure speculation, but could Amanda Vines be the alternate identity of one of the game's heroines? Female Face 13 is particularly common among heroines (Sister Psyche, Seraphina, Ms. L, Miss. L, Maiden Justice), and as far as I know only powerful meta-humans share that face. Aside from Amanda, that is.

    11) PEATs. And by PEATs I mean Praetorian Epic Archetypes while trying to sound as nerdy as I can. What were your plans regarding this matter, if any? Also, regarding the immensely controversial Ranged/Armor tank-mage AT. Would it ever have seen the light of day?

    12) CoH 2, developed by this team. Still possible or only in a different reality?

    13) You devs have about 50.000 lemmings desperately waiting to be prodded into the right direction. Where do we go from here? Or better yet, where are you planning to go so we can trail along right behind you?

    14) Thank you for giving us this wonderful game.

I was naive, entrusting real money without a guarrantee that I'd get what I paid for. NCSoft's credibility used to be enough for me to do that, now it's not. Fame might last 15 minutes, but infamy lasts a lifetime.

Needless to say, I'll never touch any of NCSoft's goods again, but the impact of this decision is much greater than that, affecting my perception of all virtual purchases as a whole. If even financially sound games like City of Heroes aren't secure, all virtual purchases must therefore be considered suspect. Things we bought from Xbox Live, Playstation Network, iTunes, Facebook, all of these things can apparently be taken away without legal recourse. This can't possibly be considered an acceptable business practice, it's tantamount to fraud!

Nevermind the credibility issue, we, as virtual consumers, desperately need strong legislation to protect us.

And there is a very sharp streak of anti-villain in Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs, where the audience is almost rooting for the character in spite of his obvious evil nature, particularly at the end.
Is Dexter an anti-villain or a vigilante?

Happy, uhh, 30,000 post count, Arcana, and may your typing fingers remain forever nimble
  21. Aurora and Pendragon are alright, but Marauder? He's the most despicable person in Cole's service, even worse than Mother Mayhem (who, IMO, was insane rather than evil).

BTW, assuming my theory of Patrick Duncan being Hero One pans out, I'm kinda hoping for a gender-reversed Secret of the Sword moment where Pendragon gets his new sword from Ms. Liberty
  22. Hey Sam, if you do get hired by PS, will you please use your superpowers to bring States, Miss L. and Sister Psyche back and write them a few story arcs worth playing? Thanks in advance

That has always been the purpose of both science and religion, to offer a unifying theory of everything. But I agree with you, I'd much rather have two (or five) incompatible origins than just one big ugly Well. Who knows, maybe some supernatural event will take place outside of the Well's scope, something it can't possibly explain...

It wasn't meant as an insult, I just took it from your earlier post that you weren't overly familiar with NATO, particularly when you listed 2 former Warsaw Pact nations that weren't even part of NATO in 2005 (when Longbow first invaded). You seemed genuinely interested in learning about it, if only for the purposes of this discussion. If I was wrong, I apologize.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. It's reproachable to bypass the UN altogether, but not outright illegal as long as it adheres to the terms of another organization. That's how I see the Vanguard - Longbow conflict, UN advising caution as the US charges ahead (or, as the other side views it, Vanguard sitting on their collective ***** while Longbow goes after the bad guys).

Maybe Blitz has managed to twart all Longbow attempts at establishing a permanent ground base.

Again, if Blitz is a rebel, why is Warburg even an excuse to invade the rest of the Isles?
I mentioned WWD as a culmination of Lonbow's fears, not as an excuse to validate an ongoing military operation that began back in 2005. Longbow was right all along, Arachnos is dangerous and should be dealt with as soon as possible, preferably before 2011 if we want to prevent Miss Liberty from dying...

Is there something there he wants? Is this a beachhead for a full-scale invasion of Paragon City?
You're forgetting the Zig Breakout, Recluse's Victory, several Tips missions, several Radio and Safeguard missions, the Top Cow comics (which starts with Recluse disabling the powers of every meta-human in the city, culminating in a giant mecha-spider marching on Paragon City), the events of the second novel in 1986, plus alot of stuff that I won't bother to mention.

As to Uncle Stefan's objectives, who cares? In his case, it's quite alright to punch first and ask questions later.

Doesn't sound like something to go to war over. In the six or so years prior to SSA #1, there has never been any credible reason given for the invasion of The Rogue Isles other than "Ms. Liberty wants to send her Uncle a message."
Arachnos and the Rogue Isles' based villains have been robbing banks and freeing criminals in Paragon City for 7 years, and last year they nuked Paragon City. I'm all for turning the cheek and stuff, but c'mon!

If PMCs can operate in Iraq, why can't Longbow do the same in the Rogue Isles? Yes, they're a spandex-wearing private army, but it's perfectly reasonable to assume they're been hired by NATO to deal with Arachnos.

No, but I agree that the initial assessment of the Rogue Isles' threat was off. Longbow isn't up for the job, which is why we need a much larger hero presence in the Rogue Isles.

P.S. Slick, never in any part of my previous posts did I willingly flame you. I'm quite fond of your ideas, and approached this as a healthy discussion rather than a competition (as I did in the past concerning WWD and Praetoria). Again, if I've given you a different impression, I apologize.
