Hmmm, Poking through the links quickly, it seems they all point to issues with the client not the servers. I am sorry being in IT I know for a fact that servers have issues as well. Especially after updating when it seems most of the problems re-emerge.
Sorry not buying it.
[/ QUOTE ]
But being in IT you would also know that if 99% of your users are online without problems, then the 1% having problems will not be caused by server problems or misconfiguration on the server side. -

Making buttons to "do stuff".
I get asked this constantly. "how do I make a button to say 'Gather for RA'?"
Type this:
/macro RA s Gather for RA
you get a button titled RA that "says" (s) Gather for RA on the current chat channel you're on.
I also use this one quite a bit to point at enemies and identify them:
/macro point em point
that makes your character use the point emote... then you right click it and edit it to say this:
em point$$s $target!
Now, when you click, it will point and say "Void Slayer!" or whatever name you currently have targetted. Keep in mind, I use "s" for say so it always goes to the default channel, whether it be supergroup, team, local, broadcast etc... -
there's also another facet to herding... you don't need to do it on every spawn. Usually its intent is to put them all in close proximity to each other so AoE's can decimate them faster. Some groups are already arranged very tight and pretty although some tanks insist on bringing them to the "to here" point anyway, which is not only a waste of time but may scatter the group more than it was to begin with. Much of the time all the tank has to do is run into the middle of the spawn and dance a jig against a few of them and they're all ready for AoE crunchy goodness.

Superior Invisibility
Level 8
Type of power: Self Stealth (Toggle)
Youre impossible to detect, with a high Defense bonus. You can only execute powers that affect yourself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just a correction here. with superior invis active you can do everythign normally. you are not limited to powers that only affect yourself while it is active. -

Love the costumes on the vanguard shield, especially that lady wearing the white and purple. PLEASE tell me we're getting her chest detail/shoulderpiece/whatever that thing is!
And it sounds encouraging that we'll be getting new costume bits- hopefully some will NOT be inventions or vet rewards.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I'm of the other opinion. While I do like free items, I'd rather see more costume items as invention drops. The vast majority of drops concern set items of which I have little interest. The costume drops right now are very few and thats why they are so doggone valuable. -

Certainly puts the pain pads in a new light... ew.
Sorry to hear that about the long skirts. This has been one of the costume pieces I've wanted for a while, but I had a feeling that there were problems or we'd have already seen them.
[/ QUOTE ]
This here is the thing that had me wondering about "other" games that have long skirts and dresses. Other games have added them but they all clip and look extremely bad under animation. I'd rather have the quality coh provides rather than have a costume item that only looks good while you're standing around idle. again, thats says more about "other games" and standing around idle... -

Hmm, I find this quite interesting. It's sort of like the capacitor gauge in EVE.
Could knockbacks and holds be manipulated to keep you where you need to be as well? (no need to answer, pretty obvious)
[/ QUOTE ]
Totally. My energy/energy blasters enjoy the KB control to keep alive. I learned this from my 50 PB, who did not have defiance but needed to play cat n mouse with kb and holds just to stay alive. It's also important to use kb to the team's advantage. you need to knock them onto the ice, into the tank's aura, over a ledge to temporarily thin out the numbers... -
totally sweet. you put into words what I only thought in my head. Especially the parts about blasters that want to artificially setup defiance and then complain cause they died. Although I don't conciously adjust my sweet spot, I do make that decision when my health is low and I have no greens. At that point its do or die. If I have oranges and purples I'll pop them and then blast with reckless abandon with great results, but if I have no inspirations to back me up, I'll quickly target those that will go down in one defiance enhanced hit, or use an AoE knowing that I'll probably die in a blaze of glory due the aggro I pull... and many times I've come out alive.
Of course, at lower levels (pre-20) you stand a better chance using defiance but at higher levels the mobs just plain hit harder. -

Yeah, no way in heck they could possibly afford to have a TV commercial air during the Heros TV show or put a commercial on the screen as the preview to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
I mean after all... if you can't afford it and you can't be certain you'll hit your target demographic why bother. Right? That clicking sound you're hearing is my eyes rolling in my head.

Yeah yeah, I've already heard in other posts by amateur marketeers that think they can run NCsoft better than the guys that do run NCsoft.
Making a coh myspace page was very cool in my opinion and I'm not going to pretend to outthink the decision makers.
And doing one thing does not automatically oppose you to other ideas like you seem to infer.

There should be no need to kill any of LR's spawns while you're fighting to kill him, especially with one emp, one rad, and one kin.
And I agree. This isn't a guide so much as it's a recounting of your STF.

But it's much more than anyone else has posted. I'd like to see more tactics on GW though. I get this idea though, keep everyone out of melee range so she can't feed off you for heals, but not sure if she will rush someone to heal when she needs it. Just for the sake of killing GW it seems scrappers are frowned upon for the STF. we had 4 scrappers and a tank so were unable to finish her. But 4 blasters in place of that and we would have sailed right through easier. -
[ QUOTE ]
directive 1 - NO BLIND INVITES. Ask, always ask. It won't kill you. No conjunctions, no leet speak, no canned macros. FORM A COMPLETE SENTENCE.
[/ QUOTE ]
There will always be controversy to this one, but I prefer to be just plain invited, I don't want tells, I don't want begs, I don't want a heads up for what I will be facing, I just want an invite. Nowadays it seems with a lower population it has become harder to get teams, so I'm not picky at all. I try and put up my LFT flag right away but if its down I still want invites in any form I can get them. I'll even stick with a lousy team and give it my best shot to make it successful and if its not working I will still thank them for the team and leave. I don't make up excuses, I simply say why I'm leaving. thats not that hard to do either.
Leaders also have to be good at judging the competency of their teammates and not give them orders on how or when to use their powers. "use dwarf form" or "we're gonna nova this group, I'll tell you when to do it"... Those are my powers and I'll know when its best to use them. -
When I use my nukes I like it to be the surprise/unplanned nuke. This also depends on which nuke I'm using. Inferno is nice because it does not fling the mobs all over the place. For higher level mobs, if you have 2 nukers, its best for the Inferno nuke to go first then the Blaster Nova or PB Dawn Strike to go second. For the lvl 32 unslotted nukes its best to be a secondary nuker or use it after AoE's have softened the mobs.
Using a nuke on large groups of PP's is somethign a lot of nukers don't think about. It can be dangerous because if they don't completely demolish the PP's you're gonna have a spawn of PP's all using MoG.
Also, I typically won't use a nuke if I don't have a couple of blues to eat right away so I can still be useful or at least protect myself once the nuke goes off. -
There was one change I was curious to see but didn't find anywhere... Mobs in missions and outside spawn dynamically according to your team size but people still insist on resetting the mission because they added another team member, even though no one has entered the mission and nothing has spawned yet. I've heard talk that dynamic spawning was added in issue 2 or somewhere thereabouts but have never seen any official confirmation.
Its kinda funny how just when you think everyone gets it... a dbl xp weekend comes along and old players come out of the woodwork and they're resetting missions for no reason again... -
[ QUOTE ]
Can you top this single bonus in double exp weekend? I soloed Ghost Widow and nearly got 1.5 bubbles in a single kill.
Check out the combat log
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I looked at it closely and there's 2 kill messages with the one at the bottom slightly covered up. It looks like the second message is 41960 xp which looks like the actual kill xp and the one above may be mission complete xp... or maybe the other way around... -

Bump it until a Dev responds. Ridiculous that they have yet to do so.

This same MoG thing comes up all the time, and this post is no different than the others. The crowd is split on MoG but EG is a little more passionate about hating it and stating it's broken. EG wants MoG to work in a way that he wants to use it, instead of adjusting himself to use MoG in the way it actually works.
There's many powers in everyone's AT that used to work one way or another and if they were changed (or nerfed) to work differently than they do now, they think they're broken.
Don't expect a Dev to respond, they're just as burned out on this subject as the rest of us are. -
I want to add a bunch of observations too.
Pulling from the edge is not as important as selecting the right guy to pull. I was completely stymied by my friend's mob selection. He'd pick ones from the middle or even the far side and still get only one. His snipe would sometimes knock the guy way back too, and still only got the one targetted and could whittle the group down one by one.
The most difficult part of pulling with a team is getting everyone out of sight first. They all want to watch and will stand in LOS, waiting for the guy to come to the team. Once the puller hides, the guy thats running toward the team will target the next available team member and stop and hit them with ranged attacks... depending on how much damage the puller did. I think the only situation where someone should remain in LOS is when you plan on having a tank intercept the pulled mob. This also applies to herding. Everyone needs to hide out of sight until the mobs get to the intended herd location because they will also aggro on anyone they see, stop short and use ranged attacks, negating the herding the tank just did.
Another observation about runners that run into other spawns. They are not part of that spawn and do not alert the next spawn if you hit them while they are standing in it, as long as you are out of normal aggro range of the next spawn when you hit them.
TP foe works the same as range pulling, so choose wisely who you TP.
Oh yes, for the Tsoo, Sky Raiders, and Rikti that have "protective" mobs... they have some sort of feature that allows them to "see" their friends in danger whether or not the pull was successful or not. If you successfully pull a tsoo, the sorcerer will most likely TP to the mob when his health gets low to heal him even if the pull was successful at first so get ready to take on the sorcerer too. The teleporting mobs are the ones that seem to follow their friends in danger after the pull, thats why I mentioned the sky raiders and rikti. -

Wings switch to SG colors when in SG mode even if SG colors deselected in the options screen. I can't use one of my costumes beacuse of it.
Wings also don't turn invisible with the rest of the body, but I'm not too worried about that.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you'll notice you usually can't change wing colors back to normal colors in the SG mode screen because the wings are gone. To temporarily fix it, go to icon and open a tailor window, then cancel out of it. Now your SG mode screen will have the wings option so you can change colors again.
I also noticed group invis did not turn my wings invis. And even cooler, when I switched to Nova form only my tentacles were visible. (peacebringer) -

Mamphis_Bill,
I like your summaries and I think our different appraisals can only help. Even so, your work seems to be more descriptive of what the AT's are rather than what they do. It's an obscure point, I know. I was writing about what a player should expect to be doing in a hypothetical eight-man team.
As an example, a defender or a corruptor solo will seem very similar, with firepower traded for superior buffs/debuffs. On their respective teams, a defender will concentrate upon his AoE buff/debuffs and healing, as his blasting will have less importance. A corruptor must in the same setting blaze away like a blaster.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bill's summaries were factual and accurate. That is something best passed to the reader. What the player actually does is tightly based on what abilities they start with.
Also, I find defenders and corruptors quite different although they "can" play the same role. The power choices is what will define your role and not the setting. Good luck trying to get a storm defender to heal the team. Both defenders and corruptors can be either attackers or buffers or healers depending on their power choices and not so much on team dynamics. Same with controllers, and to a lesser extent dominators. -
[ QUOTE ]
For examples of how the large team goes wrong, you need only look at the threads regarding Pick-up groups or "PUGs." These groups are essentially armed mobs, each fighting their own battle, charging off alone, not communicating, filled with people who used cheats like "power-levelling" to advance their characters and care absolutely nothing for their teammates. They attack recklessly and call for healing. They bicker and squabble, blame everyone but themselves when things go wrong and disintegrate against any serious opposition. It's an ordeal to work with them. Don't. Whatever skill you bring will be squandered and they will resent your attempt to impose order.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really must interject here to clear up a possible misleading description. A PUG is not bad nor does it describe a bad team. A pick up group is simply team members chosen, or "picked up" randomly, out of the blue. What you are describing here is a bad team, not a pick up group. It is common to find idiot players on any team, regardless of how they got on the team. Let's not disparage pick up groups. In the last 6 or 7 months I have very rarely found a bad pick up group. They have been the best, strongest and most organized teams I have been on. After all, I'm on the team. If you have bad experiences with pick up groups, remember this... "the one thing they have in common is that YOU are on all of them". -

The best part of MoG is the chance to shout "Moment of GLOOOOOOOOOOORY" when you use it. It's fun. All other arguements are pointless.
I use MoG in EB and AV fights when Fast Healing wears off. Granted, some psychic bosses will smite you, but it's fun to go toe to toe with Marauder and out last his uber defense power.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is true. Its a showoff power. And while I can't give numbers that prove its uberness, I doubt anyone can. It's not a number game, it's a psychological game you play when you click MoG. It's not the simple game mechanics of win vs lose or defense/resistance numbers. It's an ingenious addition to the game which provides what all heroes should aspire for. To sacrifice yourself in a glorious way. It's SUPPOSED to be a losing battle when you use it. The more you put on the line the more glory you recieve when it's over and you survive.
If you pick your moment correctly you're gonna hear the familiar chants from your teammates. "Woowoo!! GO GO GO!!" and when its over you get the rush of hearing "man you're awesome" and "you're the best scrapper I've ever seen". It's not your normal tier 9 that you can use when things fail or go bad, or to start a big fight, because clicking MoG can fail you too, and if you picked a bad time, it will be utter idiotic suicide.
Mog has let me complete a room while the team is faceplanted, cheering. It has allowed me to tank Seige while the real tank disconnected, logged back in, got tp'd to the top and took taunt again. Many times, MoG took my life to save my friends, and it suited its purpose there too. MoG isn't about YOU, its about your team. My motto in-game has always been "my life for you" and MoG really makes this possible. Many times it will result in my death, but a few of those will really be great moments of glory. -

...I use MoG and you're bitter that I've learned how to use it and you poo poo on it every chance you get. I'll still hold that it is a truly heroic power for those experienced enough to use it correctly. You have proven you are not one of those. Let it be, let it go. I'm ok with you not liking it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That statement pretty much invalidates itself, you're basically saying "he's too stupid to use MoG, but you're smarter than the average bear and can use MoG." then He reponds "Oh yeah, prove it. My brother is bigger than your brother."
So, you both disagree vehemently. There's nothing wrong with "subjective" reasoning, especially in cases like this. But one persons subjective opinion can vary greatly from anothers, but both are subjectively equally valid.
Now, if anyone wants add something "objective" with measureable, reproduceable, scientifically validatable by a third (or any /regen) party, then PLEASE add that information. I personally would love to have some specific cases I could test (on test center) and I'm sure the dev's would be more willing to listen to specific reproducable results. There likely are multiple (scientifically reproducable) scenarios that will support both viewpoints, and the real answer will be found in comparing how often one can reasonably be expected to encounter each scenario.
But if all you have to offer is comparisons of your intellectual, hand eye coordination, or other prowess, try to restrain yourself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I apologize for not paraphrasing all of our other discussions that include scenarios, situations, etc... And you came in long after we've had our proofs and facts on display. If you look back through all the months and hundreds of postings you'll find our results. And I think there are very strong arguments for both sides. But if you want specific cases feel free to search for the other posts. Many of them are quite detailed and even have people other than EG and me posting opinions. In fact, this posting has a lot of explanations you are asking for too, all I ask there is that you read them before posting that this information is not being presented to you. -

I guess no one includes: Stone Armor, SR, Dark Armor, Dark Miasma, Empathy, Regen (out of MoG), Force Field

And lol NO ONE can resist Hami damage so seeing it on your list makes me believe you are really reaching for negative things about MoG.

Regens can protect against Hami. Not as well as in the old days, but healing is protection. MoG doesn't allow that.
[ QUOTE ]
And all because you haven't learned how to deal with it to your advantage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because there is none. You say I can't find a use for MoG, but you can't either. You know that whatever you say I can give you a way to do it better. Your ego is hurt because in your heart you fear that we are right and you use MoG as a crutch. And a poor one at that.
You keep using your crutch, and I'll keep responding to opinions with facts.
[/ QUOTE ]
For Psi protection on a stone tank, minerals will be the best suited to take Psi, but still no direct protection is offered by any you mentioned. They just don't have the hole that MoG does.
And Regens have no protection from Hami damage. It is a damage type of its own that is not resisted by anything or anyone. And trying to say that healing is hami protection is ludicrous at best.
And you don't have any facts in there anywhere that I can see, unless you count untrue statements. Especially the part where you say "and you can't either" because you don't know how well I use MoG and you're bitter that I've learned how to use it and you poo poo on it every chance you get. I'll still hold that it is a truly heroic power for those experienced enough to use it correctly. You have proven you are not one of those. Let it be, let it go. I'm ok with you not liking it. -

Prove it. Give me any situation, you would use MoG in and I'll show you a way to do it safer. Because in fact, if you're using MoG to save yourself it's probably your tactics that are deficient.
[/ QUOTE ]
"prove it" has been one of your most common comebacks to people who like MoG, and I know that you've been looking for instruction in how to use MoG but you've either not listened or not learned.
Still, I'm not going to teach you yet again because I believe you don't want to hear from mog sympathizers.
Also, the list you had of villain groups that will affect MoG also affect other AT's that don't have MoG available to them. No one really gets psi protection. And lol NO ONE can resist Hami damage so seeing it on your list makes me believe you are really reaching for negative things about MoG. And all because you haven't learned how to deal with it to your advantage. It will always be sour grapes to you.
But, I will give you credit for finally omitting the false claim that MoG goes against the regen set.
